How to change the resolution of several photos at once. Batch photo resizing. When There Is More Than One

When working with large quantity images quite often there is a need for their group processing. For example, you need to resize several photos at once, dropped from a camera or phone to a computer, in order to send them by mail or upload to social networks or any other service where there is a restriction on the size or resolution of the uploaded image. You won't be manually resizing each picture !? For these purposes, there are many programs, both paid and free. I will talk about some of them in this article.

Microsoft Office Tools

Now almost every computer user has Windows control set Microsoft package Office. This package includes an application such as " Microsoft Office Picture Manager "- a program for viewing and editing images. To change the resolution of several pictures, first copy them into new folder so as not to overwrite the original files.

Right-click on one of the pictures and select the option context menu Open With> Microsoft Office Picture Manager.

Select the necessary images with the mouse or, if you want to change the size of all images in the folder, press the key combination "Ctrl + A". Then click the "Change Pictures" button and on the right side of the "Resize" panel.

We put the switch in the position "arbitrary width and height", and write new values in pixels in the corresponding fields.

IrfanView

IrfanView is excellent free app to view and edit images. I still remember how in the early 2000s, when it first appeared, I used it on a computer under Windows 98, since it did not slow down, loading images while viewing, unlike other applications. Now it supports Windows up to the latest 8th version (at the time of this writing).

So, launch the application and select the "File> Batch Conversion / Rename ..." menu option or press the "B" key. A dialog box for working with a group of files will appear.

Add files to the queue in the right area of the dialog: go to the desired directory, select the files and press the appropriate buttons: "Add" or "Add all" (if you need to add all files from the current folder). In the "Output directory for result files" section, specify the folder on the disk where you want to save the photos with the new resolution. To change the resolution of the pictures, we need a group of buttons "Batch conversion settings". In the "Output Format" drop-down list, select the format of the final image files. If you have photos in "JPG" format and want to keep them in that format, just leave "JPG". Next, the most important thing: put a checkmark "Use advanced options (for bulk resize ...)" and click the "Advanced" button. Additional options will appear. As you can see, there are a lot of them.

In fact, we only need the "RESIZE" group, put a check next to it. Further, in the "Set new size" branch, in the "Width" and "Height" fields, enter new values for the width and height resolutions. If you want to keep the aspect ratio, enter only one value. Save the settings by clicking the "OK" button, the settings dialog will close, and in the previous dialog, click on the "Start Batch" button. Batch processing starts, displaying information about the current job.

After finishing the processing, click on the "Exit Batch" button. The resized images will be placed in the new folder and the original files will remain intact.

Once again, we have to return to the subject of pictures. Sometimes you just need to fit pictures to one size. For example, when posting illustrations online or when organizing your photo album. What can be done, start any graphics editor and heroically redo each a separate picture(reminiscent of throwing nuclear bombs to fight cockroaches), more progressive users can use the graphic file viewer to do batch processing of files. This is certainly good, but not very effective when there is a cool program that changes the size of all added images in a folder, and this is called a free creation Dropresize.

When downloading, it immediately surprises, the program only weighs about 50 kilobytes, but as always, this size is achieved thanks to the use of the .NET Framework. Who knows, maybe over time, other programs and packages will begin to shrink.

To get started, no instance is required, just run a single executable file. A setup screen will appear in front of us, where we select a folder for monitoring, if necessary, specify a folder for saving original files, select the size (height or width) to which we scale the image, the maximum can be set to 1600 pixels. This is where it all ends, nothing else is required of anything. The utility collapses into the notification area and quietly does its job, just drop the necessary pictures and get finished image with the given dimensions.

Yes, I almost forgot, if the original image is smaller than what you want to get, then Dropresize does not change anything, leaving the original picture as it is.

The most common file formats are supported: png, gif, jpg are processed perfectly, in principle, it was working with them that interested me. As for the rest, you have to try, it seems that detailed documentation for this program simply does not exist.

It turned out to be an invaluable find for Dropresize. Due to the fact that it is constantly necessary to upload pictures to the Internet and at the same time must be of a certain size, this program allows you to resize in several mouse movements, just copy files, and of course it saves time on performing routine operations.

I recommend all this program, simple to the point of genius, that can save you from another headache. It's just a pity that only one folder is monitored, and you can only change to one image size. So, you get used to the good quickly, and you begin to demand more.

Works great in 32- and 64-bit operating systems... The program interface is only for English language, and although why translate here only a couple of lines of text, which are so often found when using a computer.

I told you how to add to your one-page site, made in an ordinary html-editor, where the uploaded pictures spin beautifully to the music. But in order to insert images into this carousel, they must be pre-processed, that is, they must be adjusted to one overall size.

This can be done using various programs by installing them on a computer, but if you do not have to do this constantly, then you can use online services.

With one of these services, we will learn how to fit photos to one size.

We find on the Internet pictures suitable for the desired topic. If these are pictures for a video, then it is better to take a larger size so that they are clear when viewed. If for a site, then whatever you do - a slideshow, carousel, flash gallery, pictures up to 800px wide are suitable here, since the width of any site is musical card, subscription or selling page should be no more than 1200 px.

It is best to target 1000 px. And even if you make the site a little wider, try to navigate so that the whole important information was located exactly in the middle part, within these limits, since not all monitors have a high resolution, and not everyone will guess to move the slider at the bottom of the page left-right to see everything that you want to convey.

When downloading images, for example, using Yandex, you can mark the necessary filters, and even set the sizes you need. But this greatly limits the choice. Therefore, it is better to choose an approximate size, orientation (horizontal or vertical), color preferences and download the appropriate sizes:

Thus, we can download the number of images we need, while their sizes will differ from each other:

In this figure, the difference is not very different, it can be larger, and if you insert them like this, without fitting them into the carousel, then their size will be distorted, they will shrink in width along the smallest, or stretch along the largest, and this is for us no need. Therefore, they must be made the same width.

There are very good service, thanks to which, you can not only fit several photos to one size, but also make a collage, crop a photo. And this is very desired function, since often pictures are downloaded with someone else's logo, and you can simply crop it, rather than look for the same picture, but without the logo.

Here is the address of this online service: http://createcollage.ru/ (copy the address and paste in address bar- do not forget to put a bookmark on it, it will come in handy!) Moreover, there are several services combined - with one:

For example, clicking reduce photo, I went to another address: http://resizepiconline.com/:

Load all the pictures that we want to fit in size, specify the desired width (for the smallest picture) and click - "Resize". Download the resulting result - one at a time or all together in an archive:

Everything is very simple:

Take a walk through the top tabs, maybe you want to make a collage, or choose a beautiful winter frame for your postcard, where you can insert whatever poem you want, instead of being content with what you have.

I am waiting for links in the comments to your postcards made according to the lessons on the site. Write questions that did not work out for you, because if you are just learning how to make your first postcards or websites, not everything can work out. Therefore, the majority simply give up this business, hoping that later, someday, it will all be learned by itself.

I, too, did not succeed in everything right away, but I did not retreat, but tried and try to bring what I started to the end!

Instructions

First try to find the picture with search engines... Enter your query, and then select the search settings tab. Google, for example, has the Search Tools button, while Yandex has an icon with sliders. Then you need to select the item "Size" and specify the exact values. Or, for example, if you need a photo with good resolution, highlight "Large".

If there is no picture with the required size, then you can adjust it to the frames yourself. There are ways. The first is that you first create a document with the desired size and then resize the picture. The second is the opposite - you open the picture and change the size. There is essentially no difference: it all depends on your preferences and goals. Examples will be considered in the program Adobe photoshop, but you can use other graphics editors as well.

The first way. Click "File" - "New ..." or the key combination Ctrl + N. A window with settings will appear in front of you. Specify the parameters of the width, height and the required color resolution there. Then open the image you like in the browser, click right button mouse and select "Copy picture". Then return to the program and press the combination Ctrl + V.

The picture will appear in the window graphic editor... Then click "Edit" - " Free transformation"Or a combination of Ctrl + T. Key points will appear, with the help of which you can adjust the picture to the size of the working window. As soon as you get the desired result (by the way, you can go beyond the boundaries of the working area), click "File" - "Save as ..." or the key combination Ctrl + S.

Second way. You must first go to your computer, then click "File" - "Open ..." (or the combination of Ctrl + O) and select the required image. Then select "Image" - "Image size ..." or press the Alt + Ctrl + I combination. Uncheck the "Maintain aspect ratio" checkbox and select the desired size. Then press the OK key.

Photoshop tools are designed to make your life easier. And if you need to resize several images at once, then we have a solution for this problem for you! Learn about this in a short tutorial.

When There Is More Than One ...

Resizing a single image in Photoshop is easy, but what if you need to resize 10, 50, or even 100 images? You can process everything one by one, but it will take a lot of your precious time, which you could spend on solving other creative problems.

In this tutorial, you will learn how to resize multiple images at once by creating a custom and using the function Automation> Batch Processing(Automate> Batch).

If you're new to Photoshop and need a very quick solution to this problem, choose one of our many Resizing Actions on GraphicRiver.

1. How to Configure the Corresponding Folder

In this tutorial we will use the function Automation> Batch Processing(Automate> Batch), which will allow us to resize multiple images in a directory. Therefore, it is important to make sure that you have selected the correct folders, one where the original images are stored and the other where the images will be saved after resizing.

First, create two New Folders on your computer. Name the first Original Images(Original images) and the second Resized Images(Modified images).

Make sure all the photos you are going to change are in the first folder. Remember this step is required. Now you can point Photoshop to the directory where you want to change all the images before saving them to the second directory. Now let's move on to creating Photoshop Action (Operations) to complete this task.

2. How to Create a New Set of Operations

This Photoshop Action is a fast and easy way to change your images in seconds. And as an instructor, I find it very useful when I need to prepare several images for an article or lesson, so I will create processing for just such a case.

Step 1

Once you have created the directories, open Adobe Photoshop and go to the panel Operations(Actions) via the menu Window> Operations(Window> Actions).

Now go to File> Open to open one image from your directory. Here I'll be using this stock photo from Pixabay. Its original size is 960 x 635 px.

Step 2

In the panel Operations, click on the button Folders and Create New Set for your action (for the operation). Give a name - Resizing action, and click ok.

3. How to Create a Photo Resizing Action in Photoshop

Step 1

With a folder selected, click the button Liszt, to Create New Operation ... Since I'm going to use this action to create the right sized images for my Envato Tuts + post, I'll call this action Tuts + Post Images... And you give a name that will correspond to your task. When you're done with this, press the button Recording to start recording your operation.

Step 2

While you are recording, go to Image> Image Size(Image> Size) and change the width and height as per your requirement. Our articles at least 850 px wide, so I'll adjust the width to that size.

When your action is being recorded, the Record button will turn red to indicate that it is recording until you click Stop.

Step 3

But we're not done yet! Since the image has been resized, it's time to Save file. Go to File> Save As(File> Save As, and find the directory to save Modified Files... When you find the directory, be careful not to change the filename before clicking Save... Then select Quality the image you would like for these jpegs. I need the file size to be smaller, so I choose Medium quality - 6 .

Step 4

The last step for this action is very important. While the recording is still active, go to File> Close(File> Close) or click Control-W to close the Photoshop file. This should be your last step while recording this operation and you can now press Stop in the panel Operations... If you don't include the last step, Photoshop will load all of your images into a folder without closing any of them. And depending on how many of them you have, your computer may start to "glitch" or freeze.

Click on the Stop button only after you have completed the last step - close your file.

4. How to Create Automation

Step 1

Now you can use the action you just created to modify several files in the folder. To do this, go to File> Automation> Batch Processing(File> Automate> Batch).

Step 2

In installations Batch processing , select Operation Set you just created as well as The operation which you want Execute... Before you press OK, Please select the folder that contains the images you want to change. Since the created operation saves images in the folder Resized Images, all your new images will appear there.

That's all! This action will now be applied to every image in the folder and every file will be closed before a new one is loaded. Enjoy the action by using it in your future projects, or customize it to suit your needs.

Conclusion

After spending some time creating this little action, you will now significantly speed up the processing time of your images in your future projects. I hope you enjoyed this short tutorial! Let me know in the comments if you have any questions.
