How to draw a dotted line in photoshop. Making a frame from dots, dashes, dotted lines in Photoshop. Create frames from dotted lines

In this tutorial, I will show you how to draw dotted lines. The easiest way: we will take the “pen” with you, select the “shape” mode, remove the “fill” to “no color” and select the color for the stroke that we wanted. Let it be blue. Also at this stage, we need to choose how thick we will have a dotted line. Let's say 2 pixels and choose what it will be. Will it be dots or will it be dotted lines. Let's choose them.

And just draw an arbitrary line that we will eventually need. After we press "Enter", the outline disappears, only the dotted line remains. This is the easiest way, but it doesn't always work. On some versions of Photoshop, this will not work. And for this there is a second way, in which we also need the pen tool.

Here we are already drawing in the “contour” mode. We also create the bend that we would like. Let it be like this semicircle. And now we need to switch to the Text tool. Move the cursor to the path, and we will see that such a small dotted line appears next to our cursor. This means that when we click, our path will become editable and we can write some text here. But as we create dotted line, we just need to press the dash many times. We have such a contour. Also, this contour can be circled with dots. The second way is text.

And another way, this is also the outline of the contour using the brush tool. The first step is to set up the brush with you. To do this, we need to first make this brush. We create a new document: Ctrl+N. Width -27 pixels and height - 6. At this stage, we need to set the size, which will be equal to the stitch size. Choose transparent background. Click "OK". And fill this document with black color. Now we need to define a brush: edit/define brush. Let's name it and click OK. This document can be deleted.

We return to our main document, select the “brush”, and as you can see, it is already here. Set the opacity of the brush to 100% and go to the palette settings and change its parameters a little. We definitely need to increase the number of intervals, and go: brush dynamics / control / direction. And then our brush will repeat the curves of the contour. Also at this stage, set the color that your brush will paint with and choose the size, it can be made a little smaller.

Now we also take the pen tool. We draw the contour that we need. We also operate in contour mode. We bring the pen tool to the very contour and right click mouse, we call the “context menu / stroke the contour / select our brush (the one that we set in the previous step will be selected. Press “OK”. The brush completely repeated the bend of the contour.

Create a new layer (Ctrl+Shift+N). Now just click on the resulting contour with the right mouse button and in context menu click on the item "Stroke path" (Stroke Path). A new window will open where select the Brush tool and click OK. And our simple dotted line will be created. Now you can delete the work path (Work Path) or use it further to create new lines. You can move, scale the outline, change its shape, rotate, add anchor points, the dotted line will repeat all changes to the outline. Just remember to stroke the path on a new layer.

Creating a dashed curved line in Photoshop

This method is used when creating more complex curved toolpaths. It differs from the method described above only in the shape of the outline. In the first case, we drew a straight line with the "Pen", and to create a dotted curve, we need to draw an outline in the form of the desired curve, adjust the brush as described above, and stroke the outline:

How to Create a Dashed Circle in Photoshop

As you probably already noticed, you can draw a dotted line in Photoshop outline any form.
Only to create a contour in this case, you must use not the "Pen" (Pen Tool), but contour tools. To create a circle, use the Ellipse Tool (Ellipse Tool), to create rectangles and squares - the Rectangle Tool (Rectangle Tool), to create complex contours and custom forms- tool "Arbitrary figure" (Custom Shape Tool), etc.:

All you have to do is set up the brush, create a path with one of these tools, and then stroke the path with the brush:

Note. Photoshop CS6 and above has a stroke option for outline shapes. Learn more about creating dashed shapes in Photoshop CS6.

There is no "correct" way to draw lines in Photoshop - every artist and designer eventually finds their own methods and chooses the tools that are comfortable for them. Whether you are using the "Line", "Pen" or "Brush" tool, you can approach creative project different ways and still get the same results. In that practical guide we'll show you how to draw straight lines in Photoshop using the many drawing tools available in this program.

Line Tool

To find the "Line" tool, click and hold the mouse button over the "Rectangle" tool on the main toolbar. A menu will open to select the shape of the tool. If any shape tools are enabled, you can also select the Line tool from the top options menu.

Why is the "Line" tool considered a shape? Essentially, the Line tool just creates thin rectangles that look like lines because the Fill and Stroke colors are the same. If you want the line to be empty inside (like a rectangle), just turn off the fill.

The Line tool makes it easy to draw straight lines. Just click anywhere on the image and drag the line in the desired direction. If you want to draw a strictly horizontal or vertical line, hold Shift key as you drag, and Photoshop takes care of the rest.

Once you learn how to draw straight lines in Photoshop, you can experiment with advanced options and create dotted lines from dots or strokes. To find these options, click the "Stroke Options" icon on the left side of the options bar, and then select "More Options". Here you can set and save user settings, turn on the dashed line, and choose the length of dashes and spaces.

Brush Tool

The Brush tool also lets you draw straight lines, and unlike the Line tool, it lets you create your own brush styles. The Brush tool is on the main toolbar, separate from the shape tools.

To create perfectly straight lines in any direction, hold down the Shift key while drawing with the Brush tool. To create a shape from multiple lines, draw a line while holding Shift, release your mouse button, press the Shift button again, and then start drawing a new segment from the end point of the last line.

Like the Line tool, the Brush has many stroke options that you can change to top panel options, including hardness, opacity, and brush style. We recommend adjusting these settings before you start painting strokes because the changes won't apply to all the brush strokes you've already made.

Pen tool

Finally, the Pen tool is extremely useful for drawing straight and curved lines. To select the Pen tool, click on the pen-shaped icon in the main toolbar, then click on the image to set the starting point, and again to set end point. Photoshop will automatically create a straight line between two points, no matter where they are in the image. If you hold down the Shift key while specifying these points, you can create line segments with 45 and 90 degree slopes.

I remind you that the brush or pencil must already be set. After selecting the tool, click OK, and points will appear on the path. The points made with the brush are somewhat blurry, so after applying the points it does not hurt to apply the contour sharpening filter (Sharpen Edges), select the settings individually.

Here is an example of a drawing obtained using the above gestures:

have been applied following settings brushes:
Text: type - pencil size (Size) 3 px, hardness (Hardness) 100%, spacing (Spacing) 180%
Underlining: type - brush, size 3 px, hardness 100%, spacing 205%
Frame: type - pencil, size (Size) 6 px, hardness (Hardness) 100%, spacing (Spacing) 180%

Well, we seem to have figured out the dotted frames.

Create frames from dotted lines

Rectangular frames, i.e. consisting of vertical and horizontal lines do not cause any problems.
You can draw them with a rectangular brush from the default set of Photoshop. Open the brushes control panel and load them as shown in the picture:

This brush can be used horizontal line. But the vertical one will no longer work, or rather, it will work, but ugly:

To create a vertical broken line, you need to rotate the brush imprint 90 or 270 degrees:

Now you can safely finish the vertical dashed line:

But if I need a dotted line in a circle or in any curve, then this method is no longer suitable. If you ask the mind of the world, then he, the mind, will advise you not to do nonsense with a dotted line in Photoshop, but to use Adobe Illustrator, create a layer in it with desired line, and transfer to Photoshop. I do not use Illustrator, and I need to create a circular dotted line in Photoshop. It turned out that there is a way, and quite simple. It took me ten minutes to invent it.

Select a round brush, set the print diameter to 9 pixels, spacing to 170%. Create a contour, stroke the contour, as in the case of points.
Next, right-click on the outline, select the item "Form a selected area" (Make Selection) with a feather radius of 0. Here is an enlarged fragment of the picture:

Then go to the tab Selection --> Modify --> Border (Select --> Modify --> Border), set the width to one or two pixels.

Now you need to invert the selected area by pressing the key combination Ctrl + Shift + I. Remove the excess by pressing the Delete key.
I got a nice dotted circle like this:

In some places, of course, small artifacts remained, but they can be fixed in a few clicks with an elastic band.
Thus, a dotted line can be drawn on any contour, for example, circle

Life hack how to create a dotted line in Photoshop- Every second PC user is familiar with Photoshop. For many users, this is exclusively a photo editing program, however, with the help of photoshop it is possible to depict drawing elements.

If there is a need to create a dotted line, then you should use a good and faithful retoucher assistant - a brush. The first action is the creation of one element - a dotted line. Thus, the tool was built Dotted line" and you can try to create a dashed
line.

1) Choose " Brush”and among the palette we find the created tool.
2) Press the key F5 and determine the intervals between the dotted lines. (with the help of a special slider we adjust the distance).

After that, you should put the brush at the beginning of the guide, and using the button Shift, without releasing the mouse, continue the dotted line. You can hide or show orthogonality by pressing the combination CTRL+H. If you do not doubt your skills, then you can draw a guide without using SHIFT. To build vertical axes, you should perform a series of actions: press the key F5 and see the image as in the picture.
