Salla Ski Center is ideally located just 38 kilometers from the Russian border. It is easy to get here by train or plane. This is a unique place where friends gather in good company and families come to spend an unforgettable winter holiday together.
On 15 perfectly groomed slopes equipped with six lifts, you can ski for more than five months a year. Abundance of snow, slopes for every taste, relaxing SPA after skiing, excellent après ski in bars and restaurants - in Salla everyone can find something interesting. Beginner skiers and children will try their hand at a special “family” slope, advanced skiers and riders can ski in a separate large area, and professionals will test themselves on a FIS-certified slope. Snowboarders will find a well-equipped snowpark.
The polar night is not an obstacle to skiing. In Salla, 11 slopes have artificial lighting. The main building, located on the central slope, houses a rental and service center, and the sports equipment store stocks the best equipment from the world's most renowned manufacturers. One of the advantages of the Salla resort is the ski school. Experienced instructors will teach you how to ski downhill, cross-country skiing, snowboarding or telemark skiing. Salla is a municipality with its center in the village of the same name. The Salla region covers an area of 5,800 square kilometers and has a permanent population of about 4.5 thousand people. Just 50 years ago, Salla was inhabited by three times as many people, but the decadent agriculture in these areas forced residents to leave their native lands and go to other regions to seek their fortune. With the development of the tourism business, things in the region's economy have improved significantly. And over time, people pulled back. Now Salla is increasing its economic potential, based primarily on the tourism business.
The Salla ski resort is located 10 kilometers from the village of the same name on the Sallatunturi hill. The proximity of Salla to the Russian border gives a special piquancy to a holiday in this place. Salla is very famous in the world of big-time sports. Already in 1937, downhill and slalom competitions for the Finnish Championship were held here. At this time, most of the now fashionable resorts did not even exist in projects. The resort's glorious historical and sporting past only adds to the pride of Salla.
Salla is located among the largest tracts of untouched forest in Europe, far from large cities and only 20 kilometers north of the Arctic Circle. The beauty of wild nature, which has hardly been touched by human hands, can work wonders. A person becomes more spiritual, the feeling of anxiety and haste leaves him. Here life is leisurely, among these centuries-old forests, silent hills and harsh nature.
Getting to the Salla resort is not difficult; there are several options for this. The first of them is related to air transport. From Moscow or St. Petersburg you need to fly to Helsinki, fortunately this is not difficult, 3 flights depart daily from these cities to the Finnish capital. And then take domestic flights to Kuusamo, the journey takes 1 hour and 20 minutes, or to Rovaniemi, the journey takes 1 hour and 40 minutes, respectively. And then 2 hours by bus and you are already at the resort of Salla.
The second option is to go by train. Again, from Moscow or St. Petersburg several trains depart daily towards Helsinki. In the capital of Finland, you change to the Helsinki-Kemijärvi train and after 9 hours you will be at the Kemijärvi railway station, from which it is only 1 hour and 20 minutes by bus to Salla.
You can combine these two methods to reduce the cost of travel. Fly to the capital of Finland by plane, and then go by train, or vice versa.
Due to the fact that the Salla resort is located near the border with Russia, you can use the new Salla automobile crossing. To cross the border you must have a pre-issued visa. Keep in mind that according to Finnish customs regulations, there is a restriction on the import of gasoline into the country, so don’t rely too much on your own fuel; you’ll still have to buy it here.
If you plan to take a road trip on the way to Salla, try to drive as much of the way as possible through Finland. And the roads are better and look at the landscapes outside the window.

This is where alpine skiing originated in Finland. On the slopes of Salla Hill, 70 years ago, the first slalom championship in Finnish history was held. The season favorable for skiing in Salla opens at the beginning of November and ends at the beginning of June. But with the end of the winter season, the Salla resort does not close for a break. In summer, you have the opportunity to organize walking tours through dense forests, especially since the southern part of the Salla region is occupied by national park Olanka, with beautiful nature and hiking trails. Salla Winter Recreation Center
Salla is a winter recreation center located in Eastern Lapland, offering excellent opportunities for both relaxing family and children's recreation, as well as active recreation. Firstly, Salla is a ski resort: there are 6 anchor lifts serving 10 slopes of varying degrees of difficulty (5 “blue” slopes for beginners, 3 “red” and 2 “black” slopes for experienced skiers), the maximum length of the slope is 1300 meters, height difference - 230 meters.
