Smartphone Huawei Y5 II Black (CUN-U29) - Reviews. Huawei Y9 review: it's overbudget PowerVR GE8100 provides graphics

Budget smartphones were originally simple "dialers" that allowed surfing the Internet a little. Now, inexpensive smartphones are trying with all their might to be similar to the older models, but still remain inexpensive. For example, Huawei Y5 2018 has an 18: 9 screen, 4G support, and there is a separate microSD slot.

Appearance

Huawei Y5 2018 is one of the most affordable smartphones of the company, so it is difficult to demand any special features from it in design and body materials. But, nevertheless, the smartphone does not look frankly cheap. Cover and frame made of high quality plastic with a matte finish. The smartphone is available in two colors - black and blue. And if the black modification may have problems with prints on the case, then on the blue one, which came to us for testing, "fingers" are noticeable only under the rays of hard light, for example, a flash or the sun.

There are no problems with the build quality - all panels fit well, there are no uneven joints and large gaps. But most of all, I was surprised by the very high torsional rigidity of the case, which is absolutely not expected from a budget all-plastic smartphone without a metal frame at the base. But still there is something to find fault with - with a light tapping on the body, the lock keys and volume control are actively rattling.

In front of the display is a speaker, a front camera, a light / proximity sensor, and a front flash hidden by translucent glass. From the rear, only the camera and rear flash unit is visible, which protrudes slightly above the cover.

On the left side there is a three-section tray for installing a pair of nanoSIM SIM cards and microSD media, which should be noted as the advantages of a smartphone. On the right side, only the keys for blocking and volume control are installed.

A standard audio jack is installed on top, and a single microphone and a microUSB connector at the bottom.

Display

The tested smartphone uses an IPS-matrix with a diagonal of 5.45 inches and a resolution of 720 * 1440 (HD +), that is, with a newfangled aspect ratio of 18: 9. Protective glass without 2.5D effect. The display is not particularly afraid of minor scratches and abrasions. The side bezels of the display are quite thick. However, it is difficult to demand more from a budget smartphone. Although here it is difficult not to remember which side frames do not have at all. The display recognizes up to 5 simultaneous clicks, which is often more than enough.

When the maximum backlight power is set, the brightness of the white field is 422.94 cd / m2, while the brightness of the black field is only 0.384 cd / m2, that is, the static contrast is 1101: 1. The results are good in principle, but excellent for a budget solution.

There are few color display settings. In fact, there is only an adjustable blue filter (so-called "night mode"), as well as a color temperature setting. We usually test displays with default color temperature settings, but in the subject's case, we had to make an exception and make edits, because in the standard display mode, the deviation of Delta E colors on the gray wedge goes off scale (up to 27.5), and on the primary colors (RGBCMY ) reaches a value of 12.6, while the color temperature is extremely overestimated, and the color balance is significantly dominated by the blue component. When you drag the adjustment slider to the extreme left position (warm colors), the maximum Delta E deviation in primary colors is only 5.2, and in grayscale it does not exceed 8, which is a very good indicator for a budget smartphone. In addition, the color temperature is quite close to the standard, and in the entire range of lightness of shades. In general, with the introduction of simple manual adjustments, the display is quite capable of reproducing an image with fairly accurate color reproduction. Separately, it is worth noting the high correspondence of the measured gamma to the reference value of 2.2.

Sound

This is where the smartphone fully reveals its budget nature. First, only one microphone is used. That is, in principle, there is no question of any active noise cancellation, and, of course, there is no dedicated microphone for video recording either. Secondly, the smartphone uses only one speaker, which combines the functions of spoken and system. And if the speaker copes well with the first task, then with the reproduction of music and ringtones everything is pretty sad. The sound is flat, inexpressive, with poor detail, there is no low-frequency range at all, the high-frequency range is poorly worked out.

However, the smartphone is not positioned as a multimedia combine, but at least the ringtone should be heard in any conditions. But even here, the Y5 2018 can't really please. When playing a test sinusoidal signal with a frequency of 1 kHz at a distance of 1 meter from the smartphone, a level of 66.7 dBA was recorded. And this is one of the worst results among all smartphones we tested.

Fortunately, the situation is completely opposite on the analog audio output. For starters, the volume level on the analog audio output turned out to be quite high. When playing a test signal and operating at a 32 Ohm load, a level of 423.7 mV was recorded, and when using a 16 Ohm load, it was 268.5 mV. When testing the sound quality using RightMark AudioAnalyzer software and an external sound card Creative E-MU 0204 USB, the final score was "very good", and the score "excellent" was earned in many of the analyzed parameters. I was particularly impressed by the very low noise level and wide dynamic range.

Overall results 24 bit / 48 kHz

Performance

The smartphone is based on the MediaTek MT6739 system-on-chip. This 64-bit SoC is based on 4 Cortex-A53 cores with a frequency of up to 1.5 GHz and was specially designed for the most affordable smartphones running on 4G networks. Unfortunately, the video subsystem in MT6739 is responsible for an extremely weak integrated solution PowerVR GE8100 with a frequency of 570 MHz, which supports a screen resolution of no more than 720 * 1440 (as in the tested smartphone). As for working in 4G networks, you should not count on huge performance here either, because only Cat-4 (DL) / Cat5 (UL) is supported with a maximum data transfer rate of 150 and 50 Mbps, respectively. There are also small pleasant bonuses. For example, hardware support for H.265 / HEVC decoding.
System performance was measured in synthetics PCMark, 3DMark, Geekbench 4, AnTuTu v7. Memory speed was evaluated using the AndroBench application. Testing was also carried out in cross-platform javascript tests (Octane, Mozilla Kraken JavaScript and SunSpider). The results of these tests significantly depend on the browser used, so Google Chrome was used as the most common one.
The following smartphones were chosen as opponents:
: MediaTek MT6737T, 3GB, RAM, 5.5 inches, 720 * 1280;
: MediaTek MT6737 2GB RAM 5.0 inch 720 * 1280;
: Qualcomm Snapdragon 212 1GB RAM 5.0 inch 720 * 1280;

Camera

The smartphone is equipped with a front camera with a resolution of 5 megapixels and aperture lens f / 2.2, which is typical for a budget device. The camera performed surprisingly well in sufficient light. Formally, Huawei Y5 2018 is capable of taking selfies in complete darkness, because it is equipped with an LED flash, and with adjustable brightness. But in practice, the flash is of no use, because at the maximum power level at a distance of 1 meter, it provides an illumination of 1.37 lux. No, this is not a typo - just over 1 lux. The question remains - why was the flash made also adjustable? A screen in flash mode (with a white fill) could provide an illumination of about 4 lux. But this function is not provided in the camera settings, so you don't even have to think about taking a selfie in the dark.

The main (rear) flash is much more powerful - at a distance of 1 meter from the smartphone, a value of 20.45 lux was recorded. However, this is also not much, but already enough for night photography. But in complete darkness, autofocus completely refuses to work, although the preliminary illumination for focusing works correctly. This is a clear firmware issue and should be fixed over time.

The rear camera is based on a sensor with a resolution of 8 megapixels, lens aperture f / 2.2. In general, as in the case of the front camera, the parameters are quite standard for their price class. As such, there is no dedicated professional (manual) mode, but it is possible to select a preset white balance, as well as to set the sensitivity level in the range of ISO 100… 1600 in steps of 1 EV.

Transferring control to the camera using the Camera 2 API is impossible, just as it is impossible to shoot in RAW, so it makes no sense to measure the noise level of the matrix due to too active noise reduction when saving in JPEG. For image quality assessment, the test pattern was captured at ISO sensitivities of 100-1600 in increments of 1 EV. Below are the crop fragments.

Sample pictures

Macro photography

In macro mode, the tested smartphone has difficulty focusing on the selected points, or focuses completely on the wrong object that was selected. In the examples below in the left image, the focus was on the subject in the foreground, in the middle photo in the middle ground, and also on the distant subject in the right photo. But correct targeting was possible only on the object in the foreground.

Illumination 50 lux + flash
Illumination 3 lux + flash

Video recording

The subject has an HD + screen, but he is capable of recording video at FullHD resolution. The flow rate is limited to 30 fps. However, there is no special need to use the 1080 / 30p mode, because the resolution of the matrix / lens combination is not high even in the center, and the edges of the image are very blurred (for which we should thank a simple lens). A similar problem manifests itself in the photography mode, but not so much. In general, given the fact that setting the maximum resolution does not give any gain, in order to save space on the media, it is quite possible to get by with the 720 / 30p mode.

Autonomous work

The smartphone is equipped with a 3020 mAh battery, which is average for a budget smartphone. For comparison, it is equipped with a 3300 mAh battery - only 2630 mAh, and the manufacturer placed a 4100 mAh battery in the long-liver's budget "dialer". In reading mode, the smartphone lasted 833 minutes, in FullHD video playback mode - 625 minutes, and in game mode - 270 minutes.

For the complete charger, rather modest characteristics are declared - 5V / 1A, and the SoC used does not support fast charging. During testing, from 0 to 85%, the charge indicator reached in 130 minutes, and it took 163 minutes to fully recharge the battery. It seems to be slow by modern standards, but compared to direct competitors, this is a good result.

Conclusion

The smartphone is relatively inexpensive, so it can be forgiven for some shortcomings like a not-too-high-quality camera. Moreover, in comparison with the same in terms of photo and video filming, the subject looks more interesting. But still, he has a couple of shortcomings that are difficult to forgive. Most disappointing is the rather poor performance in games, as well as the extremely low sound quality and speaker volume (when working in system mode). Otherwise, this is a pretty solid smartphone with a good (after manual adjustment) HD + display and excellent sound on the analog audio output.
Minuses:
- when tapping on the body, the physical keys rattle;
- no fingerprint reader (some direct competitors have);
- the only speaker with low sound quality when operating in system mode;
- performance in games;
- problems with focusing on close objects (conventionally in macro mode)
- problems with focusing in the dark (may be fixed in new firmware).
Pros:
- high torsional rigidity of the body;
- three separate slots for installing a pair of SIM cards and microSD media;
- high contrast of the display for its class;
- color quality of the display after manual adjustment of the color temperature;
- high signal level at the analog audio output;
- high quality sound at the analog audio output;
- relatively fast battery charging.

Today people can no longer imagine their life without the use of mobile phones. Now mobile phones are used not only for calls and messaging. Modern mobile phones require internet support. For many cellular customers, the telephone has become a substitute for a computer. That is why the Beeline communications company has developed an Internet option called "Highway".

With the use of such a service, customers can access the Internet not only through a mobile phone, but also, by moving the SIM card to a tablet or modem, use the network through such devices.

It should be noted that this is not a tariff plan, but a tariff option that can be connected to the tariff itself. This overview covers a detailed description, methods for activating and deactivating an option, and its cost. In addition, it should be noted that the review contains the option “Highway 5 GB.

Beeline provides its customers with several options for the "Highway" option. Each service has its own limitations and features. But the most basic is the traffic provided for use. The 5GB Highway is an archived option but nevertheless is of interest to customers.

Customers who use this service can get 5 GB of traffic per month. At the same time, the use of the Internet can be in different networks, both in 3G and 4G. There are no speed limits, which means you can surf the net very quickly and comfortably.

The service operates throughout the whole of Russia, with the exception of only some regions. This information is provided on the company's website. You can also clarify the coverage of the option by contacting the operator of the help desk by calling the short number 0611. In areas where the 5 GB Highway option does not apply, customers will need to pay for the Internet for each megabyte used. Payment will be made according to the tariff scale of the active tariff.

The service does not work if the client is in international roaming. In other countries, Internet usage is on a per megabyte basis. You can find out details about the cost of services for the Internet abroad on the company's website.

The undoubted advantage of this option is the ability to use 5 GB of traffic on different devices at the same time. In other words, "Highway 5 GB" can be paid for on the phone, but can be used on any two devices, for example, a tablet computer and a modem.

To activate additional gadgets, you should use your personal account on the company's website. It provides a detailed description that you need to follow by completing the necessary points from the instructions.

Subscribers will not need to pay any additional funds for each connected device.

The cost of the provided service

With regard to payment, customers will not need to pay for activation, because Beeline does not provide for debiting funds for the option for connecting and disconnecting. Subscribers will only need to pay a subscription fee of 190 rubles. The service is available for connection on any tariff plan. But for some tariffs, the cost of the monthly fee may be different. For example, if a client has an activated tariff from the "All Inclusive" line or a series of tariffs "All", then the monthly fee is 190 rubles. will only be in the first month of use. Starting from the next month, the cost of using the option will be transferred to the daily debiting of funds. The amount to be charged every day is RUB 6.95.

For tariff plans from the "All" line, which were activated after 10/07/15, the usage fee will be 190 rubles / month. Moreover, the cost does not change even after using it for a month.

If the internet runs out

To stay up-to-date with the remaining GB for the "Highway 5 GB" option, use the dedicated service command. To do this, dial * 102 # on your phone. After that, you need to click on the call button and the information will be provided on the screen for the remaining traffic volume.

You can also check the remaining megabytes through the use of your personal account. But it is easier to check the data using the mobile application on the smartphone. It is analogous to a personal account. Through it, you can not only check the balance, but also switch to a new tariff or services, and also keep abreast of the operation of the SIM card. Information about the rest of the traffic is very important in order to be able to access the network at the right time.

If it so happens that megabytes have run out, then the speed limit begins to take effect. Thus, the speed of access to the network is reduced to 64 Kbps. At this speed, Internet access will not be available. If this happens, but the Internet is still needed, then Beeline recommends using additional options to extend the speed. Beeline has several of them and each subscriber can choose the right service for his needs. Customers can also connect additional services to extend the speed, which will be activated automatically if the packet traffic ends.

Auto-renewal of speed will allow subscribers to use 200 Mb of traffic. Such packages can be credited up to 15 times a month. The cost of one package is 20 rubles. More details can be found on the beeline website or from the operator. In addition to automatic renewal, it is possible to connect other options from the "Extend Speed" line. The cost of such packages ranges from 100 rubles. up to 200 rubles

Features of the service when used on the "ALL" tariff

Any tariff from beeline can function with this service. But the tariff from the "All" family has some peculiarities in use, namely:

  1. Clients receive Internet traffic of 5 GB once a month. In this case, 5 GB is added to the main volume according to the plan.
  2. The tariff does not change when using the "Highway 5 GB", but the terms of the option do not change either. It still cannot be used while roaming.
  3. If you change the tariff to another, then free megabytes will not be transferred to the new tariff, they are simply canceled.

Connection

Since the "Highway 5 Gb" tariff is included in the archive options, it cannot be connected. But if it was activated earlier, then the Internet connection does not stop. And the cost of the package is 190 rubles / month.

Disconnection

Although the described tariff cannot be enabled, it is possible to disable it if there is a need for this operation.

For this, the beeline has provided several deactivation methods. It is worth noting that the shutdown is made for 0 rubles.

  1. The easiest method to turn off the option from the beeline is to use a service code. Clients need to enter * 115 * 070 # on their phone and the 5 GB Highway will be disabled.
  2. You can also always ask for help from the employees of the beeline company, who will kindly help to deactivate the service. To do this, you can contact the branded salons of the beeline or call the operator of the help desk by phone 0611 or 87002111. Calls to such numbers are 0 rubles per minute. To disable the option with the help of company employees, you will need to have a SIM card holder's passport.
  3. It is also possible to view all active options and tariffs through the phone. To do this, enter the combination * 110 * 05 #. After entering, you need to make a call and a list of active subscriptions, along with the tariff, will appear on the device screen. In addition, on the side there will be detailed information about the method of disabling this or that option.
  4. You can disable this service and any other on your own, through your personal account. To do this, you need to go to the site, register in the account and receive a password to enter it. After that, you can fully control and manage the SIM card. An analogue of a personal account is a mobile application from beeline.

I bought the phone for my mother as a gift as her first smartphone with a touch screen. This one turned out to be the most worthy option that was available in the stores of the city. The display is bright, the colors are very juicy. Even in the sun at maximum brightness, everything is clearly visible. Loudspeakers without unnecessary noise, the camera is ordinary, in daylight on the street, quite decent pictures are obtained. There is a flash, but at a distance of more than 1.5 meters there is little sense from it. I can't say anything about performance. It is used mainly for social networks and Internet surfing. The 8 GB card is easy to digest. The network catches without interruptions just like the Internet. A bit heavy and not for a small hand, but we are tall people and our fingers are long;) so it fit perfectly in size. The only drawback is that the smartphone responds slowly to touch when flipping through the widgets, although photos and videos when flipping through the album open instantly, the text is also displayed immediately when typing. Until we figured out why this is happening, maybe you can fix it with internal settings. When choosing a phone, Samsung, Lenovo, Fly, Alcatel and others fell into the hands. In terms of screen quality and assembly, this is perhaps the most successful phone.

Huawei continues to update its line of low-cost smartphones Y 2018, the main feature of which is the presence of elongated displays with an aspect ratio of 18: 9. Earlier we talked about an advanced, and today a more accessible and simple model is next in line -.

The smartphone package is as simple as possible. In a white cardboard box you can find the smartphone itself, a power adapter (5V / 1A), a USB / MicroUSB cable and a key for removing the SIM card and memory card slot.

Design, materials and assembly

The smartphone is presented in three possible colors: black, gold and blue.

A sample in a blue color of the case came to me for the test. In this color, the device looks clearly fresher than in the already bored black and gold. Even so, the smartphone does not have any design flair. However, for the budget segment this is quite typical, and therefore forgivable.

The body of the device is completely plastic. The plastic itself is of good quality, but a little easily soiled.

At the front is an elongated display with an 18: 9 aspect ratio. The fact that there is a fashionable aspect ratio in the state employee certainly surprised and pleased.

The bezels on the left and right are about the same as most smartphones with standard aspect ratios. The upper and lower ones are small, but the latter is slightly larger than the upper one, so the symmetry of the device is out of the question.

Build Huawei Y5 2018 - average. When you apply pressure, you can hear a creaking sound in some places on the back of the smartphone. The glass on the front has no oleophobic coating, which is also not very pleasant.

Layout of elements

Above the screen in front there is an LED flash, proximity and light sensors, a conversational and part-time multimedia speaker, a front camera and an event indicator.

Under the screen - nothing but the Huawei logo.

The right side houses the plastic power / unlock button and volume rocker.

The left side has a slot for two nano SIM cards and a microSD memory card.

But it is worth mentioning that I have the DRA-L21 version for testing, and in some countries, the DRA-L02 version will be sold and, unlike the first, there will be only one SIM card slot.

The bottom edge is equipped with a microphone and a microUSB port.

A 3.5 mm audio jack is placed on the top edge.

On the back, in the upper left corner, there is a block with the main camera and LED flash. The block protrudes slightly above the body. The manufacturer's logo is located a little below.

Below - markings and other service information.

As you can see, due to the availability of a smartphone, some things are missing in it, for example, a fingerprint scanner and a separate multimedia speaker (it is combined with a spoken one).

Ergonomics

Huawei has turned out to be a very compact and lightweight smartphone. Therefore, using the Y5 2018 is convenient.

The body has rounded corners, the shape is comfortable, you can use the smartphone with one hand without much effort. The controls are in the right places so you can easily use them.

Display Huawei Y5 2018

Huawei Y5 2018 is equipped with a display diagonal 5.45 inch aspect ratio 18: 9. The display matrix is IPS, and the resolution is HD + (1440 × 720 pixels).

The resolution for such a diagonal is just right. Individual pixels are difficult to see unless you look closely at small objects on the screen.

The screen is great, especially considering the price tag. The colors are rich, the brightness is sufficient for outdoor use, but not in direct sunlight. Viewing angles are good - colors and contrast remain unchanged with both linear and diagonal deviations.

In the display settings, you can adjust the color temperature with a bias to colder or warmer tones and activate the eye protection mode.

Performance

It's time to talk about the weakest point of this smartphone.

Huawei Y5 2018 runs on an entry-level processor - MediaTek MT6739. It consists of four Cortex A53 cores with a maximum clock speed of 1.5 GHz. PowerVR GE8100 is used as a graphics accelerator.

In synthetic tests, the results are expectedly low.

The RAM in the device is 2 GB. 2-3 running applications are kept in memory, and the rest will be started again. In addition, there is a delay in switching between applications. Permanent memory - 16 GB. Initially, the user is allocated only 10.84 GB. But do not forget that it is possible to install a microSD memory card, so it can be expanded if necessary.

In day-to-day work, there is a lack of smartphone performance. There are noticeable slowdowns when opening and minimizing applications. There are lags in the shell when downloading or installing app updates via Google Play. Well, some system animations are not drawn smoothly, in jerks.

In general, the performance of a smartphone should be enough for an undemanding user to perform basic tasks. It is possible that something will be tweaked with the firmware update, but at this stage there are nuances in terms of speed and smoothness of work.

Cameras Huawei Y5 2018

The main camera in the smartphone is one - a module with a resolution of 8 megapixels and an aperture of f / 2.2.

Huawei Y5 2018 copes mediocrely with daytime shooting, but still the pictures are of acceptable quality for a budget employee. Of course, there are misfires with regard to autofocusing, which is why sometimes you get blurry pictures. In low light, of course, the smartphone's camera shoots very poorly.

Video Huawei Y5 2018 shoots in the maximum FullHD resolution. Its quality, of course, is low. There are no additional video shooting modes in the camera application, there is no stabilization.

The front camera has a resolution of 5 megapixels ( f / 2.2). She copes with her task as expected, the quality of the resulting photos is not bad.

The camera application has a very small number of shooting modes, there are few filters.

Autonomy Huawei Y5 2018

The capacity of the battery installed in the smartphone is 3020 mAh. This is not much, but a 5.45 ″ HD + smartphone has enough of it for a day of work - quite typical.

When using 4G and Wi-Fi, the screen time was a little over 5 hours. With a constant Wi-Fi connection, the same figure was almost 6 hours.

Simply put, an active user of Huawei Y5 2018 will have enough for a full day of light, and with a more gentle mode and setting the operation of background applications, the battery should last for a day and a half.

Sound and communication

The earpiece speaker in Huawei Y5 2018, let me remind you, is combined with a multimedia speaker. The speaker, if we talk about its performance as the main one, is average both in terms of volume and quality - the sound is dull. But for conversations - quite enough. In the sound settings, you can activate the amplification of the speaker volume.

The sound in the headphones is average. In the settings there is no equalizer and other "enhancements".

In terms of communications, everything is standard. The mobile network is detected instantly. The Wi-Fi 802.11 (b / g / n) and Bluetooth 4.2 modules function perfectly. The only problem was with navigation - the GPS module determines the location slowly and with low accuracy.

Firmware and software

The smartphone received the current version of the operating system - Android 8.1 and the EMUI 8.0 shell.

In general, from the point of view of functionality, everything is cut down here when compared with the same. There are fewer gestures available, there is no one-handed mode, although it is not really needed here.

But the customization remains the same - the themes, desktop layout, navigation bar are customizable. Remained split screen, shortcuts and round markers on application icons with notifications.

At this stage, the firmware does not contain a very important function, which was in other more expensive smartphones of the manufacturer. I mean the face unlock feature. If you believe the description of Huawei Y5 2018 on, then it will be available after the OTA update.

And if it works as well as it does in, it will be cool. During the operation of the smartphone, it was sorely lacking - there is no fingerprint scanner here, and constantly entering a password to unlock a smartphone or banking applications is already unusual and inconvenient.

conclusions

a high-quality budget smartphone with its own advantages that the nearest competitors do not have. The list of its advantages includes a good display with an aspect ratio of 18: 9, well-thought-out ergonomics, as well as up-to-date and stable software.

The weak points of the smartphone are performance and a mediocre main camera. But again, this is a state employee, and it is worth evaluating it in the context of positioning.

The Chinese company Huawei has long been entrenched in the mobile phone market. It constantly ranks among the top five most popular brands for the production of smartphones and tablets in the world, second only to such giants as Samsung, Apple and others.

Huawei devices attract the attention of the consumer not only with their interesting design and good characteristics, but also with their prices. To date, she has in stock gadgets for any price segment, including budget models, which are gaining more and more popularity and becoming relevant.

Just about one of these models and I would like to tell you today - this is the smartphone Huawei Y5 2017. Reviews, current prices and much more will be in today's review dedicated to this phone. Well, let's get started.

Overview

Before starting a review of the Huawei Y5 2017 smartphone, I would like to briefly tell you what exactly will be considered. First of all, we will get acquainted with the equipment of the device, its appearance, design and ergonomics. It will then go into more detail about the display, specifications, operating system, and performance. The article concludes with an introduction to multimedia functions, camera, battery life and reviews of the Huawei Y5 2017 smartphone.

Equipment

So, the phone comes in a small rectangular box of bright orange color. On the front, there is only the name of the manufacturer and model, but the back has already listed the main characteristics of the Huawei Y5 2017 smartphone: GB of internal memory, 2 GB of RAM, 5-inch screen, 3000 mAh battery, 4G support, and more. We will get acquainted with the specifications of the device in more detail in a separate paragraph of the article.

Inside the box itself, you can find the following: Huawei Y5 2017 smartphone, manual, warranty card, charger block, micro-USB cable, headphones and a protective film on the phone screen. In general, the package bundle is quite good for a budget device.

Of course, I would like to get some kind of silicone case in addition, but without it everything is just fine.

Appearance

The appearance of the Huawei Y5 2017 smartphone is gorgeous, even despite the plastic case. By the way, plastic is used here of very high quality and pleasant to the touch. Only the frame is made of metal here, which emphasizes the stylish appearance. In the 2016 model, there were no metal elements at all.

On the back of the smartphone is the Huawei logo, the camera lens, which has a metal edging and slightly protrudes from the body. Next to the camera is a dual LED flash and a microphone hole that records sound when shooting a video.

The corners and edges of the device are rounded, it is convenient and pleasant to hold it in your hand. I would also like to note the corrugated structure of the back cover of the phone, which looks just fine.

Traditionally, on the right side, there are volume keys and a power / lock button for the device.

On the left side is the company's "smart" button - "Easy key". It can be controlled through the settings menu. For example, you can set that after clicking a button, a screenshot or something else will be taken.

Looking at the front panel of the device, it becomes a little sad. The large side frames around the five-inch display are very upsetting. Also, there are no touch control buttons, they are displayed on the screen, taking up some useful part.

At the top of the screen, you can see a hole for the earpiece, light and proximity sensors, a 5MP front camera and an LED flash so that selfies can be taken anywhere and at any time of the day.

At the top of the phone there is only a 3.5 mm headphone jack. On the bottom, there are a pair of speakers on the sides and a micro-USB connector in the middle.

As for the build quality, usually Huawei smartphones have no problems with this. Even though the Y5 is a budget model, it is built with high quality. All parts are closely fitted to each other, there are no squeaks, punching or crunching.

Screen

The Huawei Y5 2017 smartphone has a 5-inch display. The matrix is made using IPS technology, the resolution is 1280x720, the density of pixels per inch is 294 ppi, which is generally standard.

There are some small remarks on the quality of color rendition. The gamut is clearly slightly biased towards cold shades. The situation can be corrected using the "Color Temperature" item in the settings menu. If we talk about clarity, then it is at its best here. Text, small details in the photo, pictures - everything can be seen very well.

The viewing angles are not bad, however, there is a disease of many IPS matrices - when deflected in one direction, the screen turns yellow, in the other - it turns purple. From the display, we can say so - it clearly lacks a good factory calibration.

In multi-touch mode, the display simultaneously recognizes up to 5 touches.

Specifications smartphone Huawei Y5 2017 has the following:

In general, it is quite good for a budget model. Particularly pleased with the possibility of expanding the internal memory using a separate slot for microSD.

Connection

If we talk about the quality of communication, the phone keeps the network quite confidently. The volume of the external speaker is good, the interlocutor is heard well, the voice is not distorted. With regard to support for wireless technologies, the Huawei Y5 2017 has 4G and 3G. GSM standards are fully supported: 900/1800/1900. Bluetooth in the device costs version 4.0.

Operating system

In the box, the smartphone comes with Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) operating system. The shell uses the proprietary Emotion UI 4.1. The likelihood that this device will receive the version of android 7.0 is very small, it is still a budget option.

As for the interface itself, the outer shell is quite pleasant, it is convenient to use it. Optimization also does not fail. Paging, opening and different transitions are smooth, without jerking. There was also no noticeable slowdown.

Performance

The processor of the Huawei Y5 2017 smartphone is not installed with proprietary Kirin, but from MediaTek, version MT6737T. I don't want to say anything about this "pebble", because it is installed in almost every third device from other manufacturers. The processor runs at a clock speed of 1.4 GHz, which is more than enough for the budget segment.

The video accelerator is also not worth some cool Adreno, but the Mali-T720 MP2. Its performance is quite good and allows you to play most mobile games without much difficulty, including such as Asphalt, NFS, WoT.

In Antutu, the phone scored 40,754 points, which is quite good considering its class. This figure is noticeably superior to the 2017 model from Samsung - Galaxy J3. And if we also compare the prices of both devices, then the advantage here is clearly at Huawei.

For the graphics test, several games were launched: Riptide 2, Asphalt 7/8, Modern Combat 5, Real Racing 3, Inhustice 2. The result was a pleasant surprise. In some games, the graphics settings were set to the maximum - no fps drawdowns were noticed. However, for a comfortable game in the same Injustice 2, NFS, Asphalt 8, the settings still had to be reduced.

Camera

Huawei Y5 2017 has two cameras - the main one is 8 megapixels and the front camera is 5 megapixels. The quality of the pictures, as for a state employee, is very good. White balance is set correctly in most cases, but focus and exposure often miss.

As for the front camera, everything is perfect here. Sharpness is good, white balance, exposure - everything is on the level. Photos come out of high quality. For selfies and blogging.

The smartphone can record video in Full HD 1920x1080 30 fps. The sound is recorded in stereo, which is good news. The quality is not perfect, but at a high level.

The camera's settings are rich, you can sort it out for a long time, so we will not consider them.

Autonomy

With the autonomy of the smartphone, everything is fine. With more or less intensive use, the phone calmly lives up to the evening. If you limit yourself to calls, SMS, a couple of hours of surfing and online video, then the charge will remain until the next day.

Prices

Huawei smartphones have always been distinguished by their slightly overpriced compared to other manufacturers. This model is no exception, although if you look at the characteristics of the device, its performance and capabilities, the price tag is quite justified.

Today, the Huawei Y5 2017 Gold or White smartphone can be bought for 6700 - this is the lowest price. For comparison, the same Galaxy J3 (2017) starts at 10 thousand.
