D link internet smiley does not work. Setting up the Internet and Wi-Fi network Smile: features of connecting equipment. Configuring PPPoE Connection on Router

Since our company specializes in commissioning work network equipment, then we often receive applications for the installation of inexpensive routers for home use, which were not configured on their own by the clients themselves or by the masters they called before us.

The essence of the problem: D-link wi-fi router from the factory firmware 1.2.94, (hardware revision B5) were once set up by unknown masters who left passwords on a piece of paper that did not fit anywhere. ;) Therefore, after buying gadgets: a Samsung tablet and two Htc-1 smartphones, it was difficult to combine them into a wireless home network, to put it mildly. It was urgently necessary to connect the device to the Internet of "Smile" - a provider that uses authorization via the Pppoe protocol. A similar scheme of work is used by other providers, in particular, these are companies:

  • NetBynet
  • UltraNet
  • infoline
  • starnet
  • On the maryno net - PppoE + service name

starting to install the router ...

Since the password for entering the configuration menu of the router did not fit either;) the wizard had no choice but to reset the router to factory settings.
After that, according to our rules, the wizard should test the Internet speed, but created on the computer vpn connection with Smile-Network did not pass, allegedly because “ remote server did not answer". In fact, this is our brilliant di link cut"transit" / forwarding of the pppoe connection, and the master almost did not earn a heart attack, believing that the mistress's password from Smile Internet is also wrong ...;) The further course of the setup, to great joy, proved the groundlessness of this guess.
... Without hesitation, the router master updated the "brains" of the router to the latest official version of the software ( F / W 1.4.9); no alternative OpenWrt needed to flash. After flashing Router Dir300 threw out a new trick, ceasing to issue private IP addresses to clients on wireless interface, specifically the laptop from which setting was in progress, since the router is installed in the corridor of a two-storey building, and pulling the cable is zapadlo. ;) "Trouble" was revealed by an incredibly long identification procedure (on Wi-Fi adapter Atheros 802.11G model AR9285) and the "issued" address from auto-range APIPA type 169.254.la.la. The reason for such an ugly behavior of the DLink product was the crookedly implemented in router DIR-300 Server DHCP and the wizard had to tinker with before he configured the mechanism for issuing private Ip addresses in D-Link to all wireless clients in the house that tried to connect to the router via Wi-Fi.

Our Master Varyag did not surrender to D-link

Our router tuner was far from the end of the "tormenting" process. When the wizard created a connection on the VPN router, Dlink went online, received an "IP address" from the provider, and the sites do not open :-P. The following picture turns out: the router is authorized on the Internet, this is a fact, since in the status screen (on home page settings menu) a green light is on with the dns and gateway addresses issued by SMILE, and successful PPPoE authorization is displayed in the d-link logs with further receipt of all IP addresses necessary for working on the Internet. By the way, informative logs are the most strong point model Dir300Nru B5 ... and in the course of the only one .;)) Not a single site was opened due to a failure of the integrated domain name recognition service (also called DNS cache or DNS-Relay). Through absolutely shamanic actions, that is, operating with settings completely unrelated to the subject of the problem, like disabling IGMP, enabling / disabling RIP, Firewall on a WAN connection and enumerating the "MTU" value, as a result, it was possible to choose a "happy combination" of settings in which the device worked satisfactorily ...
Having blotted out another half hour with successful resolution of both problems, including the problem with the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol server, making sure that NruB5 finally logged in via the Pppoe protocol and successfully entered the Smile-Network, the wizard proceeded to set up WaiFay.

Wifi tuned in without difficulty

After the router has been configured on Smile, to wireless network all gadgets available at home quickly connected, including the notebook itself, plus two phones with Wi-Fi Htc one bought for the occasion and tablet Galaxy Tab from Samsung. There were only mere formalities left: to check the stable operation of all devices connected to the smiley through the router, leave the customer a password (encryption key) for the wireless network created protected by WPA2 protocol and save the configuration just in case. The router maker was very lucky that the client was not subscribed to the IPTV service because Dlink routers Since ancient times, the three hundredth Dir series have been famous for their incredibly crooked implementation of this function and there was a chance to hang out at the customer's home for another good hour.
The measured speed with the Internet at the tariff was ~ 20/6 Mbit, (the check was carried out through the online service

Like many other Internet providers, Smile uses several communication technologies to connect its subscribers. Most homes have an Ethernet connection (regular cable Internet). Where this option is not available, the connection is established via telephone line using ADSL. In this case, the maximum data transfer rate is limited by the capabilities of the used standard and the subscriber line.

Connecting to the provider Smile through a router

To level Wifi signal was about the same in different rooms, place the router in the central part of the apartment. Find the port for connecting the cable, provided by the Smile company. It is usually abbreviated as “WAN” (Wide Area Network) and is located on the back of the device. Plug the cable into this connector, and connect computers, laptops, Smart TVs and other devices that can connect to the Internet via a cable to the remaining LAN (Local Area Network) ports. Connect the plug of the power supply to the "Power" port, and then plug the unit into an outlet.

Note! If the connection is using a telephone cable, use the ADSL port instead of the WAN input.

Configuring PPPoE Connection on Router

Open up Wi-Fi web interface router through any computer that is connected to it. To do this, find the IP address of the router in the service information on the bottom panel of the device. Enter it in the address bar of any browser and press the "Enter" key to enter the control panel. A window with fields for entering a username and password will appear on the page. This information can also be clarified on a sticker or in the instructions from the Wi-Fi router. Fill in text boxes and click "Login".

Important! Standard data account will not work if the authorization parameters have been changed. If you do not have access to the new password, restore the factory settings of the router. For this, the device has a separate "Reset" button.

Go to the network setup menu at "Network -> WAN". In the drop-down list, select the type of connection used by Smile - PPPoE. Leave the main Ethernet settings and parameters unchanged. In the "PPP" section, specify the following parameters:

  • Username;
  • Password;
  • Password confirmation.

This data is provided by the provider. They can be clarified in technical support Smile or in a contract for the provision of Internet access services.

Setting a password for home Wi-Fi

Open the "Settings -> Wi-Fi" section. On the start tab, set the name of the wireless network (SSID). If you want to make the network hidden, check the box next to the corresponding item. In this case, each time you connect, you will need to enter not only the Wi-Fi access key, but also the name of the network. The password itself can be specified on the Security Settings tab, in the PSK encryption key line.

Select “WPA2-PSK” or “WPA / WPA2-PSK” as the network authentication method if not all devices in your local network support the modern WPA2 standard. Save the settings with the "Apply" button. After that, reboot the router through the control panel or by pressing the button on the device case. Connect to Wi-Fi to test your wireless network.
