Bypassing copy protection in a pdf file

Since January of this year, I have finally moved to Linux OS, and specifically to Ubuntu. I am a third-year student majoring in Computer Science and Computer Science. In the third year there is such an interesting subject - circuitry. And there are also laboratory works, which we can do at home and send to the teacher by e-mail. Since the teacher can use the old Microsoft version Office, but I work in LibreOffice, errors may occur when opening odt on Microsoft Office, or when saving doc\docx in LibreOffice. I decided to save the work as a pdf file and send it to the teacher. In addition, he uploads finished laboratory work on his website so that any student can familiarize himself with other works. Unfortunately, I have a negative trait - I do not like it when I copy the text. I decided to protect the document from copying, I would rather set a ban on copying and set a password.

In order to make sure that the document was properly created and protected from copying, I tried opening it in standard program pdf viewer that is installed in Ubuntu - namely Evince. What was my surprise when I found that the text can be easily copied. “Well, I saved it incorrectly,” I thought, and did the same steps again. Opened a second time - again the text is easily copied.

Well, here I was surprised a lot and decided to send this pdf file to a friend. He also said that he could not copy the text in either Foxit Reader or Adobe Reader.

Well, the next quite logical step on my part - I asked him to download Evince. Benefit product with open source code and cross-platform. There were no problems with installation on Windows OS. My friend opened the protected pdf with a freshly installed Evince and was able to copy the text without any problems.

Conclusion: to bypass pdf copy protection, you can use the Evince program. This option is the most optimal and does not require any additional actions and is the most convenient option. In my opinion, of course.

I did not stop there, because perhaps the problem is in LibreOffice itself, you might think. I downloaded the trial Adobe Acrobat Pro and created a pdf file there and protected it with a password.

I got similar results, Evince handled it without issue.

The PDF protection mechanism is designed to ensure compliance with copyright laws through features that prevent other users from copying or otherwise replicating the contents of a file. The owner or author of a PDF file can restrict access to reading, printing, copying, and editing the document by protecting it with a password. If you need to edit or copy text from a PDF file but don't have the necessary rights access to the file, then in order to unlock the PDF file, you must perform the following steps.

Method 1 of 11: Find out exactly what your protection is blocking

">Open the PDF file. If you need a password in order to open a file, then you will need to download a program to crack it. This approach is very resource intensive. Cracking even the simplest passwords can take several days, during which time the computer will be unable to perform other tasks. There is a very small chance that well-protected passwords cannot be cracked at all.

  • Check for protection. If you don't need a password to open a file, you can tell if the file has other protections by looking at the padlock icon. If the document is protected, then this icon will be at the top (located on the left) of the panel. Click on the icon to make sure the file is protected.

Method 2 of 11: Unprotect a PDF file as owner or author

    1. Open the protected PDF file. For this you can use Adobe program Acrobat. For this method to work, you must be the author of the document or know the password.

    2. Click the Secure button. This button is located on the task toolbar. It is easy to recognize due to the presence of a castle on it.

    3. Change the security settings. If you want to customize the security settings, rather than unprotect the PDF file, then select the "Permission detail" option located under the Secure button.

Method 3 of 11: Using Google Drive

Hello dear readers of the blog site. Today's post will be about how to remove protection from a pdf file? There are times when this gets in the way. For example, you want to print a downloaded book from the Internet, but you can’t, because there is a ban on printing, or, for example, copying the text you need for further use also fails. Some install this protection, thus trying to somehow protect their offspring, and not give all permissive rights to their product (book, manual, case). They can be understood, of course, but there are a lot of on-line services on the network with which you can easily bypass this protection and get full access to a pdf file.

In general, the following types of protection can be set on a pdf file:

    - prohibition of printing

    - prohibition to change the document

    - copy protection

    - password to open the file

    - password for access rights for various roles

    - prohibition of access to content, well, etc.

3 ways to remove protection from a pdf file

Method number 1 - PDF Unlock. Let's move on link, and select the file in one of 3 ways (from a computer, or from cloud storage), press the Unlock button! The unprotection process will be displayed, and after a while a window will appear prompting you to save the file.

Method #2 - FreeMyPDF. The process of removing protection from a pdf file is similar to the previous one. Let's move on link, use the Browse button to select the required file, and click Do it!

There is one limitation for this service, you cannot remove protection from a file whose size exceeds 200 Mb.

Method number 3 - Thepdf.com. This method also extremely easy to use. Let's move on following link and in the window that appears, press the Select button to select the desired file to remove its protection.

After you have selected a file, press the Unlock button and wait for some time spent loading and processing the document.

    Hello readers of my blog!

I think everyone knows such a program as adobe reader which is free. It facilitates the opening, viewing and printing of PDF documents. The browser automatically detects the adobe reader during installation and installs a plugin for it. After that, you will be able to view all documents of the specified format.

You, as users, will be able to add comments, graphic notes, callouts, lines, and more. Unfortunately (and for some, fortunately), in practice there is no program that can completely protect a document from copying.

I want to note that you can protect your author's text by "not showing" it completely. On the site you can post certain excerpts of your work, and full text It will be possible to offer for downloading only after payment. But if this option does not suit you, then consider a number of protection programs.

Quite often used free PDF Freeze that converts pdf file into the image. This way the content is protected. This program is aimed at replacing text with an image (). The content cannot be copied or highlighted, which will create difficulties during operation.

The tool in question has encryption methods that prohibit the ability to print, copy, edit. The application is available in several themes.

To convert a file to an image, you must first download and install PDF converter freeze. Next, open a simple interface, add a PDF file from your computer, select the quality level and encryption method. You simply specify the parameters you need and click on the "Freeze" button.

After that, you should open a new window in which you should specify where to save the output image.

Ready! Image PDF find where indicated. As you can see, the program is elementary and will not bring difficulties even to an inexperienced computer scientist.

    Online protection

There is an online protection method. To do this, just follow the link. The tool allows you to encrypt a document completely and protect some properties of a PDF file (for example, only print or copy protection).

There are three methods you can use.

First, you only allow the document to be opened after the correct password has been entered.

Secondly, you always allow the text to be opened, but restrict certain actions. For example, prohibit its printing.

Thirdly, you can combine the above two options - set a password and simultaneously restrict actions.

Two passwords are set - “user” and “administrator”. If the recipient sets a "custom" password, they will be able to view the document. You, using the "administrator" password, have full control over the document and, if necessary, print it.

The maximum allowable size is 50MB. If you need to protect a file big size, then you will have to wait a few minutes, since uploading to the server takes some time and directly depends on the connection speed.

Thus, with the help of the methods described above, you can take measures to preserve your copyright on the PDF document.

    Sincerely! Abdullin Ruslan
