Why is Samsung Galaxy S6 better than S5? Samsung Galaxy S5 vs Galaxy S4: comparison of flagships Difference between Galaxy S4 and S5

There are different smartphones from Samsung, and they differ in price, appearance, and most importantly, in technical parameters. We tried to make a small comparison of smartphones Samsung Galaxy S5 and Samsung Galaxy A7, and come to a definite conclusion as to which one is better. This partly worked out...

Specifications

For ease of understanding, we will write down all the important technical parameters in a table where we will highlight the parameters in favor of a particular smartphone in green/red.

Smartphone
Price $460 $590
operating system Android 4.4 Android 4.4

Cameras: rear, front Rear 13 MP, led flash. Front camera 5 MP Rear 16 MP, LED flash. Front camera 2 MP
Dual SIM support Yes Yes
Battery capacity 2600 mAh 2800 mAh

A very strange comparison, because both phones, although they have similar technical parameters, cost completely differently. The price difference is approximately $100, but more cheap phone has better hardware. It's about Samsung models Galaxy A7. Despite the lower cost of the smartphone, it has 8- nuclear processor. Therefore, this device should work faster than its opponent – the Samsung Galaxy S5 smartphone. The S5 model has a 4-core processor, which, however, is also very, very good. The amount of RAM is not excellent - both models have 2 GB of RAM built-in.

Screen... in the A7 smartphone the screen diagonal is 5.5 inches versus 5.1 in the S5 gadget. Moreover, the resolution is the same in both models, so the Samsung Galaxy A7 with a diagonal of 5.5 inches wins in this case. Still, a larger screen is better, although the number of pixels per 1 inch will be lower, which will make the picture less detailed. However, these are minor things.

Cameras... the Samsung Galaxy S5 wins here with a 16 MP camera. The A7 model also has a good 13 megapixel camera, but it is still worse than the one installed in the Samsung Galaxy S5. Front cameras are of little interest to anyone and are not as important as rear ones, but still: in Samsung smartphone The Galaxy A7 has a slightly better rear camera. So for those who like to take more selfies a smartphone will do A7 with a 5 MP front camera.

Battery capacity is the last difference between these smartphones. The Samsung Galaxy S5 has far from the most powerful, but still a good battery with a capacity of 2800 mAh. The Samsung Galaxy A7 has a 2600 mAh battery, i.e. its capacity is 200 mAh lower. Under normal load conditions, the S5 model will last a little longer.

Still, if we compare the technical data of smartphones, we gave preference to the Samsung Galaxy A7 model due to its powerful 8-core processor. This gadget will handle “heavy” applications and work a little faster than the Samsung Galaxy S5 (theoretically).

Samsung Galaxy A7 review, disadvantages

A short video review Galaxy smartphone A7 for those who are too lazy to read.

  • Metal body. This seems to be good, but in winter it is almost impossible to hold it without gloves;
  • Despite the 8 cores of the processor, its processing power is not very high. This somewhat limits the ability to run resource-intensive applications and multitasking;
  • There is no mechanical button to activate the camera;
  • The large screen diagonal is great. But the extra inches make the model unergonomic. For example, holding a smartphone is no longer convenient for girls with small hands. In addition, it is sometimes difficult to fit into a pocket;
  • Non-removable battery;
  • The 2600 mAh battery drains quite quickly. Therefore, it is better to save resources by closing it in the task manager unnecessary applications.

In general, the phone is very decent and for its hardware it is relatively inexpensive.

Samsung Galaxy S5 review, disadvantages

Traditionally, video review of a smartphone

From customer reviews, we will take away some of the shortcomings that this gadget suffers from. These are the following disadvantages:

  • The rims are slippery at the edges, so we do not recommend them for people with crooked hands;
  • Bad front-camera;
  • There are 2 SIM cards here, which is a plus. However, one of the buyers complained that if the Internet is activated on one SIM card, then it is impossible to get through to the other;
  • The video is recorded with noise;
  • The speakers in the smartphone are not the best;
  • Standby mode consumes more electricity than usual. Therefore, you should also save battery power in your smartphone by turning off Wi-Fi or closing unnecessary applications when you are not using the smartphone.

If these shortcomings do not scare you, then we can fully recommend this device - it is good.

After all the rumors, leaks, teasers, hints and expectations, we were shown not just the Samsung Galaxy S6, but two flagship smartphones at once, which continued the popular Galaxy series S. I think that many of you not only remember very well, but also still use the Galaxy S3. The Galaxy S4 and Galaxy S5 picked up the interest in the line, although something still went wrong last year. Luckily, Samsung has found a balance and the Galaxy S6 looks like a true champion, but let's compare it to last year's model.

(banner_context_socialmart)

Design

Between the two flagship models there is not just a line of demarcation, but a whole chasm, since Samsung decided to change a lot of design elements. Even the tactile sensation of the Home button has become completely different, more pleasant. On the other hand, the circuit remains the same - all the same familiar features, all the same buttons for turning on and controlling the volume. Although, there are still differences, and considerable ones. Most of the ports and connectors, or rather all of them, are already located at the bottom of the case. There is just one point that cannot be kept silent about - the Galaxy S5 had a plug on the MicroUSB port due to protection from water/dust. The Galaxy S6 has returned to the classics, that is, to the absence of protection by default. Now be afraid of dropping your smartphone in the water.

The most noticeable difference from the Samsung Galaxy S5 is the use of completely new materials. The Galaxy S6 finally gets the changes it needs - it's not the plastic S5. This is a true premium flagship with a metal body frame, as well as glass front and back panels.

However, it is worth recognizing that the sizes of the smartphones remained almost the same, although the Galaxy S6 became more compact, retaining a 5.1-inch display. All this thanks to new body materials.

Since there have been a lot of complaints against Samsung for the fact that both the design and the quality of materials leave much to be desired (to put it mildly), the necessary changes have occurred, albeit not without compromises. Galaxy S6 has not received any removable battery, nor MicroSD connectors. You know how often this could be useful. But now the body has become stylish, thin, and comfortable.

Display

As I mentioned above, the display size remains the same - it is 5.1-inch Super AMOLED screen, but the resolution has increased by... you'll see for yourself when you pick up the Samsung Galaxy S6. The difference between Full HD and Quad HD is simply fabulous, although not everyone will be able to distinguish it with the naked eye. As a result, the density of dots also changed - an increase from 432 to 576ppi.

As always, Super AMOLED offers us deep blacks, vibrant colors, and wide viewing angles. You know, even the fact that DisplayMate calls the Galaxy S6 screen the best is worth a lot, although previously this title was held by Galaxy Note 4. But won't Quad HD resolution be unnecessary for a 5.1-inch screen? Some will agree, others will doubt. But let's face it, the difference between the screens is very big. Evolution, you know.

Processor, memory, performance

Samsung always releases its own flagship smartphones With the best processors that you can find. This applies to both the Galaxy S5 and Galaxy S6. But the S5 runs on a quad-core Snapdragon processor 801 or Exynos 5 Octa (depending on region) with 2GB of RAM.

There was no processor from Qualcomm for the Samsung Galaxy S6, and there are serious reasons for this, which we talked about a lot before the presentation. As a result, the new flagship runs on an eight-core 64-bit Exynos 7420 processor with 3GB of RAM. Once again I want to say that the performance of the smartphone is simply fantastic, which is also worth saying thanks to the TouchWiz optimization. Other hardware characteristics include a minimum of 32GB of memory (in the absence of MicroSD support). However, it is worth adding a powerful graphics accelerator to the performance, which many people forget about. The Galaxy S6 also has a fingerprint scanner, which has been modified and made touch-sensitive. Simpler, better, more accurate, more productive and faster - this is all a new scanner. By the way, if you are missing additional protection from water/dust, then you can wait for the Galaxy S6 Active. It will appear a little later this year.

Concerning Galaxy batteries S6, then it “shrank” from 2800 to 2550 mAh, when compared with the Galaxy S5. It would seem that this could become a problem, especially since it cannot be replaced at any time. But still, technology does not mark time, especially at Samsung. The battery can be charged almost instantly - 10 minutes is enough to work for 4 hours. There is also support wireless charging and it makes no difference what type it will be. Time battery life It definitely hasn’t decreased - the productive Exynos 7420 is energy efficient, as is the memory. Surely the Samsung Galaxy S6 will be able to work longer than the S5. Although we will wait for such a test.

Camera

Samsung Galaxy S5 and its 16-megapixel ISOCELL camera are known to many - fantastic colors, clear details without noise. In general, we can only praise it, but the Galaxy S6 appeared, albeit also with a 16-megapixel module. That's just new camera, although taken from the Galaxy Note 4, it offers a lot of new features, updated functionality and better performance, of course, with best quality. The camera app on the Galaxy S6 has become simpler, no need to scroll through the menu. Everything has been simplified as much as possible for the sake of convenience. Selecting a shooting mode occurs almost instantly. The Galaxy S6 also offers several new features. You should click on it twice Home button(double tap), and the camera is ready to work in 0.7 seconds. The main camera, by the way, received new feature with the name “tracking autofocus”, that is, tracking autofocus - easily shoot any subject in motion without blur. Additionally, the new Auto HDR mode now turns on automatically when the camera deems it necessary.

Software

The Samsung Galaxy S5 arrived with Android 4.4 KitKat and the Lollipop update is still not available for everyone. We talked about this the day before, indicating the reasons. Of course, the smartphone has the TouchWiz shell. YES, it is good, multifunctional, interesting, but still overloaded with features that may not even always be used. There is support for numerous gestures and other proprietary features, but all this overloads the interface, causing it to lag.

The Samsung Galaxy S6, on the other hand, was the result of some serious bug fixing - latest version TouchWiz, which runs on Android 5.0 Lollipop, has now become much simpler, missing many applications that you can easily download from the application market. This “diet” turned out to be useful. TouchWiz has become faster and more responsive, and this is what everyone has been waiting for for years. But it's too early to judge, since the Galaxy S6 is still running on a test version of the firmware.

Conclusion

Both the Galaxy S4 and Galaxy S5 are already left behind. It’s especially a shame to part with the S4, and you’ll probably agree with me. But the Samsung Galaxy S6 was truly what we were waiting for - best flagship, with the best filling, with best design(this is subjective here). It's still a smartphone that fits within the frame Galaxy lines S, but he is ahead of his time - competitors seem “gray”. I hope the prices don't scare off buyers, although nearly 50 million pre-orders suggest otherwise.

Samsung Galaxy S5 smartphone video review:

Throughout the year at the very top, among the leaders mobile world, was and continues to be Galaxy phone S5. With an unparalleled feature set, extraordinary performance and stunning stylish design it has gained recognition in the modern market mobile technologies. Despite the fact that the Galaxy S5 and Galaxy Alpha were made by the same company, Samsung, the Galaxy Alpha is superior in quality to the famous Galaxy S5.

Samsung Galaxy Alpha vs Samsung Galaxy S5 – Comparison

Comparison of Galaxy Alpha and Galaxy S5

Samsung Galaxy design

Galaxy Alpha is one of the best technology smartphones today, owned by Samsung, which pushes the Galaxy S5 to a lower level. Thus, Samsung Galaxy Alpha is positioned as a “designer flagship.” Thanks to its rugged design, which features a metal side frame that surrounds the screen and white stripes around the edges, the Galaxy Alpha is the most attractive model. At the same time, it is very compact and convenient, which makes it easy to hold in one hand, since its weight and size are smaller. But nevertheless, the Galaxy S5 model, despite the plastic case, has a water-resistant element, unlike the Galaxy Alpha.

Of course, both phones are multi-functional and have many of the same features. Such as a heart rate monitor and a rather convenient fingerprint scanner that allows you to register on sites with a simple finger press, as well as a MicroSD card slot and an IR blaster.

Characteristics

Of course, the Galaxy S5 and Galaxy Alpha are true Samsung smartphones.

The screen diagonal of the Samsung Galaxy Alpha is 4.7 inches, 720 x 1080 pixels, which gives a fairly clear image Super AMOLED display - this means that the colors on the display are bright, rich, contrasting, and the viewing angles are almost maximum, there is an HD resolution, which makes color reproduction more balanced than that of the Galaxy S5. A unique display of black color that allows you to admire it for a long time.

The Galaxy S5's display is larger, has a higher pixel density of 5.1-inch 1080 x 1920 Super AMOLED, and presents richer colors. Both models allow you to choose a color profile for any situation; there is automatic brightness adjustment. The display does not fade in the sun and supports operation with gloves. Both smartphones have an ultra-saving mode.

Interface and functionality

Although Galaxy Alpha has new interface and TouchWiz, there are a couple of tricks hidden in the Galaxy S5 software, which expand the capabilities of the smartphone.

Of course, both phones have many of the same software specs. For example, thanks to Multi-Window you can simultaneously view content different applications at lung help finger movements. Despite their similarities, the Galaxy S5 offers a little more functionality. For example, to view images in a gallery or web pages, Air Gestures is used, thanks to which you can scroll through content with a movement of your hand without touching the screen.

Later Galaxy S5 will be released for more new version platform, so soon this smartphone will be able to boast the same updated interface TouchWiz, same as Alpha. There is no doubt that the platforms of both phones are similar, but the Galaxy S5 has a little more goodies.

Processor and memory

Both phones have the same chipset - a 2.5 GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor, 2 GB of RAM and an Adreno 330 GPU. Comparing performance, smartphones cope equally well with the tasks.

The Galaxy Alpha has more storage for content at 32GB, while the Galaxy S5 only has 16GB. However, the Galaxy S5 has a slot for microSD cards, and the Galaxy Alpha is released without the ability to expand memory.

Internet and connectivity

Smartphones provide the ability to use a 4G LTE connection. Since the phones are designed for worldwide use, you won't have any problems unlocking both smartphones abroad. Smartphones also have GPS with global navigation satellite system(Glonass), Bluetooth 4.0, dual-channel 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac Wi-Fi and NFC.

Samsung camera

The Galaxy Alpha takes sharp photos, but they are not as good as the Galaxy S5.

The megapixel war continues and shows no signs of ending anytime soon. The Galaxy Alpha has a 12-megapixel camera, while the Galaxy S5 has a 16-megapixel camera. In addition to high resolution, both smartphones have identical camera applications filled with extensive features manual settings shooting.

Comparing photos from both phones, it’s difficult to determine the favorite, but upon closer look it gets the palm Galaxy camera S5. Of course, the difference is quite difficult to replace ordinary users, however, the Galaxy S5 captures a bit more detail. Color rendition is practically no different. However, the difference is clear when looking at photographs taken in low light conditions. The Galaxy S5 wins here too.

Although this is not a final victory for the Galaxy S5. Video recordings are quite choppy. Both smartphones have similar qualities: smooth continuous autofocus, decent exposure control and mostly clear sound. Plus, both phones shoot in 4K quality.

Multimedia Samsung Galaxy Alpha and Galaxy S5

Galaxy S5 has big screen and a more powerful speaker than the Alpha. This is an ideal choice for users who use their phone mainly for entertainment.

Since in both cases we are dealing with the TouchWiz interface, the audio players are identical to each other. The Galaxy S5's speaker is more powerful and delivers better tones, while at maximum volume the Galaxy Alpha's speaker begins to sound strained.

Watching videos on the Galaxy S5 is more comfortable, mainly thanks to big screen, higher resolution, as well as iridescence. Plus, these smartphones allow you to simultaneously watch a movie and work with other applications.

Call quality

To be honest, the call quality is not ideal on both phones. For example, the Galaxy S5 suffers from muffled sound, and when talking through the Galaxy Alpha, voices on both ends of the line sometimes take on a robotic tone.

Battery

Surprisingly, the Galaxy Alpha's smaller 1,860 mAh battery lasts a little longer than the Galaxy S5's larger 2,800 mAh battery. When testing phones, the Alpha battery, taking into account active use of the phone, “lived” for 7 hours 50 minutes, but the Galaxy S5 was not far behind and lasted 7 hours 38 minutes in similar conditions.

Bottom line

In the US, you can purchase any of these smartphones along with a 2-year contract for $200. It is quite difficult to recommend from the bottom of my heart to buy the Galaxy Alpha instead of the more functional Galaxy S5, to which the Alpha is still inferior in many aspects.

However, on the other hand, the Galaxy S5 is quite large, and if you want a smaller smartphone, feel free to take the Alpha. If the size of the S5 doesn't bother you, then buy this phone, it won't disappoint you.
