The most popular models are Galaxy series. They include like premium smartphones S, S Edge, Note, and more affordable - A, Grand, grand prime other. How do these devices differ from each other?

Grand and Grand Prime are positioned in the segment budget smartphones as the most popular. And this is no accident: the devices have two cameras - front and main, touch screen, support high speed networks, access to the global network, the ability to install almost any program (except complex games and applications) and use them.

  1. Samo Samsung device with a charged battery (minimum 80 percent). This is necessary for an unexpected stop of the device and further program failures.

  3. Internet connection with unlimited traffic. You need this in order to download the firmware itself, which can weigh more than one gigabyte. In principle, tariffs with limited traffic may also be suitable, if this does not provide you with any inconvenience. 4. Desire and patience, which will become your faithful companion. You may not be able to flash or reflash your Samsung Galaxy the first time. Do not be upset in this case. Better try to carefully review whether you did everything right and whether you could have made a mistake somewhere.

You can flash your device (Samsung Galaxy n9005 Note, n900, S3, N7100 and others) either using official Samsung tools or using third-party utilities. Let's take a look at each of these values, then move on to their instructions.

  1. Firmware update with official software. This can be done from the smartphone itself, without using a computer or with its help by directly connecting the device via USB port. This is for those who just want to update the version operating system, - for example, from Android4 to Android 5.0.
  2. Flashing or flashing with third party tools. The most popular service in this matter is the Odin program. It is easily installed on a computer or laptop and is provided to users free of charge.

Official firmware update

Without using a computer

  1. So, you have decided to update the version of the operating system of your smartphone without any cords and other devices, but only by the device itself. Go!
  2. Initially connect to WiFi networks. Without this, there is no point in going further. If access to wireless networks no, but there is a computer with access to the global network and a USB cable, then go to the next paragraph called "Using a computer."
  3. Now go to the "Settings" menu and find the "About device" item. Here we will need a tab called "Software Update". Click the update button.
  4. If your smartphone writes that updates have already been installed on your device, it means that there are no available firmware for your device. That is, the latest available version of the operating system is installed.
  5. Otherwise, you need to agree to download updates and wait for it to complete. When finished, click on the install button. After that, your Samsung Galaxy will start updating the system, during which the device cannot be used. In no case do not turn off the phone, do not try to restart it or remove the battery - you can get a "brick", that is, a completely non-working device.
  6. Only when you see the familiar home screen and a message that you have successfully completed the firmware update procedure, you can use the device as usual.

What should you know after flashing?

Samsung, in its official manual (instructions) for upgrading the operating system, recommends doing a data reset after such manipulations. Otherwise, Samsung warns of possible system failures. This will not necessarily happen with your gadget, but you can take it into account if you find such problems in the future work with the phone.

However, it is worth remembering that before resetting, it is important to save all available data: photos, contacts, videos, music, documents. This can be done manually, by simply transferring information to a computer, or using the Smart Switch utility, which allows you to backup data Samsung smartphone Galaxy n9005 Note, n900, S3, N7100 and others.

Firmware using a third-party Odin program

To begin with, read the main points that in no case should be violated. You have been warned about this several times, so that later you don’t grab your head and say to yourself: “What have I done?”. Therefore, it is better to play it safe and carefully watch what needs to be done and what you are doing.

  1. You perform all operations at your own peril and risk. This is the most important rule, because after flashing in an unofficial way, you lose Samsung warranties.
  2. Do not pull out the power cord of a computer or laptop, that is, ensure unconditional operation of the PC.
  3. Charge your smartphone at least 80-90 percent so that it cannot be discharged during the update.
  4. When connecting to a PC, use only the original cable.

Preparing and configuring services

As you may have noticed, these rules are the same as those for updating through Samsung's official means, so it will be easy for you to comply with them. Now let's move on to the most important thing:

  1. First, download the Odin utility. It can be taken from the site (http://androidpru/odin-firmware-samsung/).
  2. Now download the firmware file for your device to your computer. If you don't know where to do it, you can use Samsung program Firmware Linker, which allows you to find and download firmware specifically for your device.
  3. Download the driver for your device to your computer. This is necessary for the correct detection and configuration of the smartphone when it is connected to the PC. You can use the resource (http://androidp1.ru/drviver-for-android/).
  4. Be sure to save all important data from the device to any other medium, just in case. Because when flashing, partial or complete loss of information from the gadget is possible.
  5. The preparatory work is over, and we are moving on to the main process. We put the phone into firmware mode. If you do not know how to do this, then try this option: turn off the device, hold down the volume down, central and lock (off) buttons at the same time. When working properly, you must exit to a special menu, where using the volume up key you agree to start in firmware mode. If you do not get into such a menu, then find this information specifically for your device.
  6. If everything worked out for you, then you can connect the device to the computer via USB. Wait a while for the necessary drivers to install.
  7. After that, you can launch the Odin app on your computer. On the left in the corner you will see that the gadget is connected, which means we are moving on.
  8. Now you need to add the firmware files in the correct order. If everything is very clear for single-file firmware (insert the firmware into the AP or PDA field by clicking on the appropriate button), then you will have to tinker with multi-file ones a little longer.

Multi-file firmware

Let's figure out which files and in which field you need to insert:

  1. PIT is inserted into the PIT field.
  2. tar.md5 - in BL or Bootloader.
  3. File CODE_xxxxx.tar.md5 - in AP or PDA.
  4. File MODEM_xxxxx.tar.md5 - in CP or PHONE.
  5. tar.md5 - in CSC.

Continuation

  1. Please note that you do not need to put any checkmarks on the left if the firmware itself does not provide for this.
  2. After the correct arrangement of the firmware files, press the START button and wait for the program to complete. When finished, the word RESET or PASS will appear on the left. The device will now reboot and be ready to use again. You can disconnect your smartphone from your computer.

Conclusion

If after flashing or flashing your device you cannot turn it on (the so-called "perpetual reboot"), then try resetting it. It is also known by its other name - Wipe. We hope that you still get to flash or flash your Samsung Galaxy n9005 Note, n900, S3, N7100 and others without any incidents. Good luck, dear readers!

Chinese N8000

Recently, a large number of fakes have appeared in the country that prevent their owners from living in peace. Tablets both externally and internally differ from the flagship of Samsung, however, ignorant people still buy them, for which they doom themselves to long torment.

Surely many do not want to wait for the official samsung update Galaxy Note on Android 4.0 and want to flash their smartphone today. So I decided to write this little instruction so that everyone can quickly and successfully do it. I immediately draw your attention to the fact that you do all the manipulations with your favorite phone at your own peril and risk, and neither I nor anyone else will be held responsible in the event of his untimely departure.

But be scared, everything is not so scary, and after spending about 15 minutes of your time, you will get an updated, great Android on your smartphone and a bunch of other goodies.

First steps

So, picking up your smartphone, immediately copy the contents of the folder efs to a safe place. Since you have to do " full wipe”, you need to save all the necessary data from the phone, backup sms, contacts and any other necessary files, applications, etc. The latter can be done using the .

Preparing for the firmware

  • The firmware itself, for example

We unpack the whole thing into some folder on the PC, and take out the cable from the table (box, drawer) to connect the phone to the computer. Now you need to upload the firmware file in the archive to the root of the memory card, in this case it will be called ICS_Stunner_1.4.26.1.zip.

Process technology

  1. We turn off the smartphone, connect the cable to it and the PC, transfer it to the “download” mode. To do this, you need to simultaneously hold down the keys: power on, volume down and the center button. A green robot appears.
  2. Next, you need to run the firmware program itself, namely the file Odin3 v1.85.exe from a previously downloaded set. In Odin we don’t change anything ourselves, we just select the CHAINFIRE REPACK I9220LP1-N7000-ICS-REPACK.tar file in the “PDA” item. That's it, now almost with a firm hand, press "Start".
  3. We are waiting for the end of the process, after which we reboot the smartphone.
  4. We go into recovery mode and select the item “wipe data / factory reset” there. This will destroy all data in the smartphone! It is not necessary to do it, but it is highly desirable, a kind of “clearing the brain”.
  5. Select "install zip from sd card" and find the previously downloaded firmware file on the memory card, select it and press confirmation. The process takes less than a minute.
  6. Select "reboot system now" and enjoy the flashed smartphone.

Before flashing, it would be better to familiarize yourself with the profile branch on w3bsit3-dns.com, because there is one big nuance in the firmware: the bootloader version.

In short, newer firmware requires a new version of the bootloader, older ones require an older one, respectively. If this condition is not met, the smartphone is overwritten special section(EFS), which contains Phone IMEI, so that the smartphone cannot use cellular network and turns into a tablet. As a solution, they either restore the EFS section (unless, of course, you took care of the backup in advance), or flash a special modem that does not require IMEI (the dream of anonymous people, not otherwise), or service center for a lot of money they change the board itself.

In my case, I already had the latest available official firmware 4.4 installed, so the bootloader version was also “fresh”. That is, I should not have installed the old versions of the firmware, but I was not going to.

So let's get started.

Briefly, the whole process can be divided into the following stages

1) Flashing the recovery

2) Make a full backup

3) We flash the desired firmware

But it's worth taking some time to prepare.

0. Preparatory work

During the flashing process, we will need a few things that are best taken care of in advance.

Odin- a special program for flashing smartphones, it will have to be installed on a computer.

Drivers for a smartphone - it is advised to use the latest available version.

Both Odin and drivers are easy to find in the header.

Custom recovery. If I understand correctly, there are only two favorites here: TWRP and PhilZ-touch. I'll use . Since I'm going to flash the recovery through Odin, I'll need a .tar recovery file.

Custom firmware. Here the choice is simply huge. I decided for myself that it’s worth flashing either on MIUI because of the beautiful and thoughtful interface, or on CyanogenMOD 12 (because today this is the only available Lollipop firmware for Note 2, while in stock android only Material design attracts me), or to Ditto Note, where most of the updated features of the new TouchWiz and new generations of Galaxy Note were ported. But this, of course, is a matter of taste.

And, of course, a Windows computer and a micro-USB cable.

1. Recovery

Recovery is a special utility program that allows you to install firmware on your smartphone, and also performs a number of other important actions such as creating backups and cleaning up unnecessary data. By and large, a smartphone always already has a recovery, but its capabilities are very limited by the manufacturer. Therefore, we need a modified recovery. As I said, I chose TWRP. I hope you have already downloaded the required .tar file.

So, turn off the phone, and then turn it on by simultaneously holding down the volume keys, the center key and, in fact, the power button. A warning message will appear about the danger of modified firmware, but we have already decided everything, and therefore we press the volume up - and the smartphone goes into firmware mode.

Now we run Odin as an administrator and connect a smartphone to the computer. There is an opinion that starting with Windows 7 it is not necessary to install drivers separately - supposedly they are found automatically. From my point of view, it will not be superfluous to install them separately - it will not take much time.

Odin will happily report that the phone has been found, the port number to which the smartphone is connected will appear in the upper left corner. On the port number, Odin will report that in this moment happens to the smartphone and what is the result of this or that operation. On the right side, select the AP button (this is if you are using Odin 3.09, in version 3.07 the same button is called PDA) and select the recovery file. Let me remind you again that we need exactly the .tar file.

And click Start.

When the process is completed, the phone will automatically reboot. However, this is an option - the corresponding checkbox in the Odin settings can be disabled.

The important point is that at the first reboot, the regular recovery overwrites all other, so it is extremely important to hold down the volume key combination when rebooting up, central key, power button (this is a regular key combination for TWRP, for other recovery it may differ). Release the keys when the model name appears on the screen. After that, TWRP should boot, which will independently make the necessary changes so that the regular recovery does not overwrite anything else. If it didn’t work right after the first reboot, it will boot into TWRP - you will have to flash through Odin one more time.

In principle, TWRP can be installed using only the capabilities of a smartphone, but you will need a terminal and root. Instructions for - last section"dd Install method".

1.1. If you need root access on the original firmware.

To be honest, I never really understood why root in real life. Here are the geeks - yes, they are, for them root on the phone is the first thing, Titanium backup does not work for them without this. For myself, I can’t figure out why I need it in real life. Well, for example, if you decide to install custom recovery not through Odin.

If you believe the same w3bsit3-dns.com, then the easiest way to get root on the latest official firmware- it .

In short, you need to download from http://autoroot.chainfire.eu/ special file for specific model, and then flash it through Odin.

But I have not tried this method, so I can not say anything more.

2. Making a backup

The most important thing to do after installing custom recovery is backup, especially the EFS partition. This is the same section where the phone's IMEI is stored. Its backup is done once, and the result is stored in a safe place. But if you often experiment with firmware, then nothing prevents you from including the EFS partition in the backup every time.

Be sure to select before starting the backup so that the result is not saved to the internal memory, but to the memory card. Most firmware require that you first delete all data from internal memory during installation, which will be fatal for backups. Before starting a backup, you can also choose what to include in it. As the first backup, I selected everything available options. But if I understand correctly, only EFS is not restored with the new firmware.

After completing the backup, I connected the smartphone to the computer and copied the resulting backup to a safe place, and copied the firmware file to the SD card.

3. Custom firmware

The firmware can be flashed both from a computer via Odin, and directly from a smartphone via recovery. Just pay attention that for firmware via Odin you will need .tar file, while through the recovery you need to sew .zip.

As the firmware for installation, I chose, which is actively developed by the form user. main feature firmware - updated interface TouchWiz and ported proprietary chips from Note 3 and Note 4. I flashed through the recovery.

To do this, turn off the smartphone, and then turn it on by holding the volume keys up, the center key and the power button. As soon as the name of the model appears on the screen, you can let go. After that, the smartphone will boot into TWRP recovery. Before starting the installation, it will not be superfluous to make Wipe in the section of the same name. Wipe in most cases is the key to the stability of custom firmware, so some firmware has the option to make Wipe before installation - the so-called "clean installation" - clean install.

Then select Install and select the desired firmware file, confirm the installation with a swipe new firmware and follow further instructions.

Similarly, you can install CyanogenMOD: .

4. Instead of a conclusion

The whole firmware process took, on the strength, half an hour. As a result, my Galaxy Note 2 has been transformed with an updated TouchWiz interface with all basic programs and if not all, then most of the new proprietary tools that make working with the pen much more convenient.

Random application crashes, as I had on stock firmware I don't watch. The phone stopped rebooting by itself. The rest - without much change. I was hoping that it would be better with batteries, but this issue is unchanged. True, this firmware has a root by default, which means you can use special programs to find out which applications are to blame for the increased consumption (here the root will come in handy, yes).
