We have already seen this tandem in the Samsung Galaxy E5 and its older brother Samsung Galaxy A5, which we recently tested. Despite the somewhat modest characteristics, the hero of the review did not lag behind more expensive counterparts in the smoothness of work. Everything works smoothly and quickly.
Hardware platform
As mentioned above, the technical specifications of the Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime have a lot in common with the Samsung Galaxy E5, but they are still somewhat simplified. Yes, the processor is the same - a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 (MSM8916) with a maximum frequency of 1.2 GHz, a modest Adreno 306 acts as a video accelerator. But the amount of RAM is only 1 GB, of which about 350 MB are available after switching on. The built-in storage is also not very capacious - 16 GB, however, it can be increased by using a microSD memory card.
Among wireless interfaces everything is standard - Bluetooth version 4.0, Wi-Fi 802.11 b / g / n 2.4 GHz, as well as a whole set of navigation systems, which includes GPS, GLONASS and Beidou. As you might expect, they all work stably and well. Working with two SIM-cards is organized in a standard way. The volume of the main speaker is good, but not very high. Vibration is good too. Speaker and the microphone are average. Not bad, but not the best either.
If we return to performance, then it should be noted that the smartphone as a whole works smoothly and quickly, but when using several resource-intensive applications, it constantly closes them, which is natural, since there is not much RAM. Even so, if you use your smartphone more as a phone and communication device, and to a lesser extent for games, then it is very difficult to notice performance problems. But with demanding games, things are not so simple. Yes, most of them do, but at low graphics settings.
For example, Dead Trigger 2 at low settings runs without sagging graphics, and at medium settings, you can already notice jerks at some points. All of this suggests that the Galaxy Grand Prime is far from being built for gaming.
To test the omnivorousness of the video player, we used the AnTuTu Video Tester application, which checks mostly using files high resolution, which is not entirely correct in our case, because the screen resolution is much lower than what makes the benchmark reproduce. Despite this, we still managed to open some files, although it is worth noting that it is better to install a third-party player - then you will definitely be able to watch almost any video.
Autonomy
The smartphone is equipped with removable battery capacity of 2600 mAh. In medium load mode, the device can easily work for two days, if you do not get too carried away with games. At the same time, the screen worked for almost 5 hours, the time of talking on the phone was 1 hour 15 minutes, and the total playing time in DeadTrigger 2 was 40 minutes. Overall, these are very good results. In our tests, we set the brightness to 63%, which corresponds to a value of 200 cd / m².

There is no automatic brightness control sensor. The brightness itself varies from 17.9 cd / m² to 315 cd / m². The contrast ratio is 1: 439. Of course, the screen fades in the sun, but the information remains distinguishable.
We also checked the factory calibration of the screen. The graphs show that the screen is a little warmer than necessary. Color gamut already sRGB and shifted towards warmer shades. The language does not turn to call the screen bad. But good is possible, because you need to understand that the device is inexpensive. On the other hand, it would not hurt to have an automatic brightness control, but for some reason it is not here.
Cameras
Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime is equipped with two cameras - a 5 megapixel front camera and an 8 megapixel main camera. Frontal has standard specifications, but among them there are interesting settings that will help you retouch the face, enlarge the eyes and change the shape of the face. The main camera can take photos in HDR mode and videos in FullHD resolution. The basic settings are well known from other Samsung models.
If we talk about the quality of the main camera images, then they turn out to be quite average. There is nothing masterpiece, but you cannot name a frankly weak camera either. The pictures are especially good in sunny, clear weather, but with the deterioration of visibility, and especially in the evening / night time, the quality of the photos is quite average. Front-camera will only work for Skype. She is capable of taking good shots, but only in good lighting conditions.

Yes, its main competitors have best performance, screen resolution, but they are mostly produced by more modest brands. The small screen resolution in 2015 looks a little strange, but at the same time, in order to see individual pixels, you need to have very good vision. A small amount of RAM, of course, is also not an advantage, but you need to take into account that the smartphone works smoothly and quickly, even taking into account the large amount installed applications... Do not forget about the appearance - the smartphone looks more expensive than it is asked for. And this is a significant advantage for an affordable device. At the time of writing the review, the cost of the smartphone was UAH 4199. It can be safely recommended for ordinary people who uses a smartphone primarily for communication, and not for playing games on maximum settings.

Nowadays, there are many smartphones that stand out either in appearance or in characteristics. The hero of our review, although it does not stand out either first or second, but well combines a strict appearance and normal characteristics. Meet the affordable Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime smartphone.
Appearance and usability
The dimensions of the device, albeit not the most compact, but not record-breaking huge. For this, you can both thank and reproach, depending on how you feel about five-inch screens. It is 144.8 mm long, 72.1 mm wide and 8.6 mm thick. In this case, the weight of the device is 156 grams.
It's nice that, despite the low cost, the manufacturer managed to make the phone very attractive. In appearance, borrowed notes from the more expensive models of the manufacturer slip through. And the materials are quite good.
The front side is covered with protective glass, the sides are covered with glossy plastic disguised as metal, and the back cover is matte plastic. In general, as for an affordable device, everything looks decent. To protect it from scratches and drops, the bezel with the screen is slightly recessed inside.
Almost at the very top there is an earpiece, a scattering of sensors, among which there is no automatic brightness control and a front camera. In the lower part there is a traditional composition of two touch-sensitive and mechanical keys.
The location of the mechanical volume and power keys is familiar. The same can be said about the audio jack, microUSB port, which are located at the top and bottom, respectively. On the back, we will not see a second microphone, which is useful for noise cancellation.
But the single LED flash, 8MP camera lens and multimedia speaker are right here. Under a thin cover with many latches there are slots for two microSIM cards and a microSD memory card, but you can get to them only after removing the 2600 mAh battery.
If we talk about ease of use, it is worth noting that it is not difficult to operate the phone with one hand. All controls are designed so that even users with small hands will not feel discomfort. And pressing the buttons has a predictable small stroke with a characteristic click.
Software, interface
In the role of the desktop interface, TouchWiz is used in tandem with Android version 4.4.4. We have already seen this tandem in his older brother, who were not so long ago on our test. Despite the somewhat modest characteristics, the hero of the review did not lag behind more expensive counterparts in the smoothness of work. Everything works smoothly and quickly.
Hardware platform
As mentioned above, the technical specifications of the Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime have a lot in common with the Samsung Galaxy E5, but they are still somewhat simplified. Yes, the processor is the same - a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 (MSM8916) with a maximum frequency of 1.2 GHz, a modest Adreno 306 acts as a video accelerator. But the amount of RAM is only 1 GB, of which about 350 MB are available after switching on. The built-in storage is also not very capacious - 16 GB, however, it can be increased by using a microSD memory card.
Among the wireless interfaces, everything is standard - Bluetooth version 4.0, Wi-Fi 802.11 b / g / n 2.4 GHz, as well as a whole set of navigation systems, which includes GPS, GLONASS and Beidou. As you might expect, they all work stably and well. Working with two SIM-cards is organized in a standard way. The volume of the main speaker is good, but not very high. Vibration is good too. The speaker and microphone are average. Not bad, but not the best either.
If we return to performance, then it should be noted that the smartphone as a whole works smoothly and quickly, but when using several resource-intensive applications, it constantly closes them, which is natural, since there is not much RAM. Even so, if you use your smartphone more as a phone and communication device, and to a lesser extent for games, then it is very difficult to notice performance problems. But with demanding games, things are not so simple. Yes, most of them do, but at low graphics settings.
For example, Dead Trigger 2 at low settings runs without sagging graphics, and at medium settings, you can already notice jerks at some points. All of this suggests that the Galaxy Grand Prime is far from being built for gaming.
To test the omnivorousness of the video player, we used the AnTuTu Video Tester application, which checks mostly using high-resolution files, which is not entirely correct in our case, because the screen resolution is much lower than what makes the benchmark play. Despite this, we still managed to open some files, although it is worth noting that it is better to install a third-party player - then you can definitely watch almost any video.
Autonomy
The smartphone is equipped with a removable 2600 mAh battery. In medium load mode, the device can easily work for two days, if you do not get too carried away with games. At the same time, the screen worked for almost 5 hours, the time of talking on the phone was 1 hour 15 minutes, and the total playing time in DeadTrigger 2 was 40 minutes. Overall, these are very good results. In our tests, we set the brightness to 63%, which corresponds to a value of 200 cd / m².

Screen
Our Galaxy Grand Prime features a 960 x 540 pixel TFT display with a pixel density of 240 ppi. The screen has a small air gap and an oleophobic coating.
There is no automatic brightness control sensor. The brightness itself varies from 17.9 cd / m² to 315 cd / m². The contrast ratio is 1: 439. Of course, the screen fades in the sun, but the information remains distinguishable.
We also checked the factory calibration of the screen. The graphs show that the screen is slightly warmer than necessary. The color gamut is narrower than sRGB and is shifted towards warmer shades. The language does not turn to call the screen bad. But good is possible, because you need to understand that the device is inexpensive. On the other hand, it would not hurt to have an automatic brightness control, but for some reason it is not here.
Cameras
Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime is equipped with two cameras - a 5 megapixel front camera and an 8 megapixel main camera. The frontal has standard features, but among them there are interesting settings that will help you retouch the face, enlarge the eyes and change the shape of the face. The main camera can take photos in HDR mode and videos in FullHD resolution. The basic settings are well known from other Samsung models.
If we talk about the quality of the main camera images, then they turn out to be quite average. There is nothing masterpiece, but you cannot name a frankly weak camera either. The pictures are especially good in sunny, clear weather, but with the deterioration of visibility and especially in the evening / night time, the quality of the photos is quite average. The front camera will only work for Skype. She is capable of taking good shots, but only in good lighting conditions.

Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime is an inexpensive but very high-quality smartphone from a renowned manufacturer. Yes, its main competitors have better specifications, screen resolution, but most of them are produced by more modest brands. The small screen resolution in 2015 looks a little strange, but at the same time, in order to see individual pixels, you need to have very good vision. A small amount of RAM, of course, is also not an advantage, but you need to take into account that the smartphone works smoothly and smartly, even with a large number of installed applications. Do not forget about the appearance - the smartphone looks more expensive than it is asked for. And this is a significant advantage for an affordable device. At the time of writing the review, the cost of the smartphone was UAH 4199. It can be safely recommended for ordinary people who use a smartphone primarily for communication, and not for playing games at maximum settings.

The 16MP camera with phase detection autofocus has not undergone any significant changes in comparison with the S5, except that for the first time optical stabilization appeared in Samsung smartphones, and now the laptop not only has some of the best daytime photos with good color reproduction and detail, but also significantly improved pictures with poor lighting, however, they do not reach the title of the best in these conditions. Autofocus works very quickly and accurately even at night, HDR images are saved exactly as much as normal ones - that is, instantly. The video is smooth, with a good bit rate, it has become even better thanks to the stabilizer and is recorded in a resolution of up to 4k, or in 720p with the possibility of slowing down and accelerating up to 8 times.
