Type of

Determining the type of device (phone or smartphone?) Is quite simple. If you need a simple and inexpensive device for calls and SMS, it is recommended to opt for a telephone. A smartphone is more expensive, but it offers a wide variety of options: games, video, Internet, thousands of programs for all occasions. However, its battery life is significantly shorter than that of a simple phone.

Introduction

In this case, everything is quite simple: Huawei already has an advanced Honor 8, even more sophisticated Honor 8 Pro, so it was logical to release a simpler device, which was called Honor 8 Lite. Despite the Lite prefix, the smartphone has not the most primitive parameters: 8 cores, 4 GB of RAM, a high resolution FullHD screen, relatively capacious 3000 mAh battery.

The cost of Honor 8 Lite in Russia is 16,000 rubles.

Design, dimensions, controls

From point of view appearance the device 8 Lite repeats all the previous "eights": a slicked body, glass, bright colors: blue, gold, white. There is also a black version. In the picture, it is difficult to distinguish 8 Lite from just 8, mainly the absence of a second camera is striking. However, in real life, 8 Lite is much more primitive. This is reflected in the materials used. For example, in the younger version, the glass on both sides feels like plastic, the side edges are also plastic, and, in my opinion, very simple and cheap. In addition, the main disadvantage is the lack of an oleophobic coating on both the front and rear panels. If the front glass gets dirty, the finger slips badly, then the glass behind it feels constantly wet. I don't even know how to explain it correctly: you just have to take the phone in your hand, and it immediately becomes slippery.

Frankly, I don't understand what's going on with Huawei: the Honor 8 and 8 Pro have oleophobic coating, while the flagships P10 / P10 Plus and the available 8 Lite do not. A stupid economy or a strange miscalculation?

Otherwise, there are no problems: excellent assembly, no squeaks and backlashes, the thickness is only 7.6 mm, the weight is small - 147 grams, it fits perfectly in the hand.

Above the front panel there are a camera, sensors, an indicator of missed events (in the right corner) and an earpiece. It is loud, the interlocutor is heard clearly and legibly, the sound is mid-range.

At the bottom end on the left is a microphone, in the center is a microUSB connector (why not Type-C?), On the right is a speakerphone.

The power button and volume rocker are on the right edge, and on the left is a combo slot (2XnanoSIM, nanoSIM + microSD). Above there is a 3.5 mm headphone jack and an additional microphone.

On the back side there is a flash and cameras, both elements are made flush with the body. Below is a fingerprint scanner.

Display

This device uses a 5.2-inch screen. The physical size is 64.5x115 mm, the frame at the top is 15 mm, at the bottom - 16.5 mm, on the right and left - about 4 mm each. There is an anti-reflective coating, effective.

Honor 8 Lite display resolution - FullHD, that is, 1080x1920 pixels, aspect ratio - 16: 9, density - 423 pixels per inch. Matrix IPS (LTPS LCD TFT) without air gap.

The maximum white brightness is 620 cd / m2, the maximum black brightness is 0.5 cd / m2, the contrast is 1240: 1.

The brightness graph is below normal, the gamma strongly depends on brightness (at the minimum values 2.2, and at the maximum values - 2.8), judging by the color levels, there is an obvious dip in red, the temperature is within 7200 - 6800 - 7500 K. The obtained data is much higher than the values of the sRGB triangle , but the triangle itself is displaced upward.

Judging by the calibrator data, the color rendition is typical for a simple IPS matrix, the brightness and contrast are excellent, the gamma jumps a lot, which means that at minimum brightness there will be a loss in bright areas, and at maximum brightness - in dark areas.

The device has an eye protection mode that reduces the level of UV radiation of the screen, prevents eye fatigue during prolonged use of the smartphone.

Viewing angles

Battery

This model uses a 3,000 mAh non-removable lithium-ion (Li-Ion) battery.

In my mode of operation, the gadget functioned for 24 hours: about 30 minutes of calls, constant synchronization with Wi-Fi (from 9.00 to 02.00, Twitter, mail, Skype, Whatsapp), several hours of LTE. The glow of the screen in this mode is 3 - 3.5 hours. If you turn on LTE and work in the same mode from 12 noon, then the device will be discharged to 20-30% by 12 at night. The screen will glow for about 3 hours.

  • Video - 9 hours at maximum brightness
  • Games - 4 hours 30 minutes at maximum brightness
  • WEB surfing - 5 hours 40 minutes at maximum brightness

Communication capabilities

The device works not only in 2G (850/900/1800/1900 MHz) / 3G (HSPA + up to 42 Mbps) networks, but also 4G CAT 6 up to 300 Mbps:

  • 4G TDD LTE: Band 38/39/40
  • 4G FDD LTE: Band 1/3/5/7/8/20

The gadget has implemented the "Signal +" function - it improves the quality of signal reception. Another feature is "Wi-Fi +". The gadget automatically connects to the most stable and powerful network (or mobile transmission data or Wi-Fi).

The rest is standard for any expensive Android smartphone: GPS and GLONASS, Wi-Fi b / g / n (2.4 GHz only), Bluetooth 4.1, USB 2.0 with OTG support.

Memory and memory card

Considering the cost of 16,000 rubles, the Honor 8 Lite smartphone uses a large amount of RAM - 4 GB LPDDR3 (speed 5800 MB / s). Internal memory 32 GB (reading 135 MB / s, writing only 51 MB / s), supports memory cards up to 128 GB.

Cameras

Unlike Honor 8 and 8 Pro, the Lite model uses one main camera module of 12 MP (f = 2.2, pixel size 1.25 microns). Front camera 8 MP (f = 2.0). There is a single flash.

Traditionally for Huawei camera shoots very well during the day, decently in the evening and quite normal at night. Pleased with accurate white balance, correct focus, a small amount of noise and artifacts.

Selfies come out great: with the correct WB, sharp, wide-angle. Pure pleasure.

As for the video (FullHD 30 fps), it seemed to me somewhat primitive: a small viewing angle, low definition. Frontalka writes only HD.

Performance

The "heart" of the device is a chipset of its own production - HiSilicon Kirin 655 (Q4 2016): 16 nm with FinFET + technology, 64-bit, 8 cores (2.12 (4xA53) 1.7 (4xA53)), graphics Mali-T830.

Smartphone Huawei Honor 8 Lite is a new beautiful intriguing model from a well-known Chinese manufacturer. The name of this version is not entirely clear, because in lineup there is already a P9 Lite gadget.

Advantages

The main advantage of the novelty is considered to be its beautiful appearance, which includes, among other things, a smooth glass back and a round fingerprint scanner. Fingerprint recognition takes 0.3 seconds.

The software is fresh Android version 7 and proprietary EMUI 5.0 interface. Performance indicators are high.

In terms of other characteristics, the device is practically no different from other smartphones of this type: Full HD display, 12 and 8 megapixel cameras.

disadvantages

The disadvantages of the device include not the most convenient configuration of the case: the device has a non-removable battery and a combined slot, the glass is very slippery. The graphics accelerator is also not the best. Despite enough powerful processor, some games will work correctly and at normal speed only on medium graphics.

Therefore, the Huawei Honor 8 Lite smartphone can be considered very good option choice for those users who expect to buy an inexpensive device with a beautiful design and more or less decent performance. This model looks pretty, although it looks like.

Specifications

On the front, the smartphone has a typical appearance for most modern gadgets - smoothed corners, a display curved at the corners, touch buttons at its bottom. The back of the device is an atypical element of the case. It is almost the same as the Honor 8, but has a single camera and does not have glare from light. Otherwise it is full copy: small lens under glass in the corner, round fingerprint scanner key, glass panels on both sides.

The glass gives the device a very nice and representative look. But from a practical point of view, this is not the most the best solution: The body easily adheres to dirt, is slippery in itself (it can easily slip out of hands), and possibly very fragile. And the device is unlikely to be disassembled in case of some kind of malfunction.

The weight of the device is 147 g, the dimensions are 147.2x72.94x7.6 mm.

The new model is available in four colors: blue, black, white and gold.

Display

5.2 inches IPS-screen, resolution - 1920 × 1080. The image must be sharp, the pixel density is 423 per inch. It will be possible to work with the screen with gloves.

Performance

This figure is very high. This is facilitated by 4 GB random access memory, HiSilicon Kirin 655 chipset, having 8 cores, with Mali-T830MP2 graphics. This should be enough for smooth operation in everyday use.

Battery

The operating time without recharging is about 93 hours. The battery capacity is 3 thousand mAh.

Memory

The internal memory is 32 GB. On the one hand, it is a good indicator for a smartphone with such a price. But for the same amount you can buy not only Honor 8 Lite, but also Honor 6X with 32 "gigs". If this memory is not enough, you can add 256 GB using a memory desk. But in this case, you will have to choose between it and the second SIM card. In general, the device can work with 2 SIM cards (4G LTE) alternately. In Russia, the Honor 8 Lite smartphone can work with by Yota operators, Tele 2, Beeline, Megafon, MTS.

Honor 8 Lite price

Competitors

The device can compete with its predecessor - Huawei P9 Lite, as well as Samsung smartphone Galaxy A5 (2017). Galaxy has more "advanced" cameras, high-speed Wi-Fi, new USB Type-C, larger volume internal memory, energy efficient display and water resistant. Huawei P9 Lite is almost the same device, but in a case without glass. He has the sixth version of Android, slightly inferior in performance. Otherwise, it is exactly the same smartphone.

Design, assembly, ease of use

The Honor 8 Lite shares similarities with, but looks much simpler. If Honor 8, without exaggeration, mesmerized with its design and gracefully shone with a glass back, especially in dark versions of the case, then Honor 8 Lite looks just not bad, but you can't compare it with the “older” model, devices of different price categories. Honor 8 Lite is available in Russia in white, gold, blue and black casing.
The front side is completely covered with a protective 2.5D glass without an oleophobic coating, and yes, you correctly understood that you will have to stock up on napkins to wipe it off without any problems. There is a grill above the display conversational dynamics, front camera, light and proximity sensors, below is the Huawei logo, which is barely visible in the "gold" version.

The back side is also covered with 2.5D protective glass without oleophobic coating, but in this case it can be justified, the smartphone lies confidently in the hand and, one might say, “clings” to the hand. On the "back" of Honor 8 Lite there is a peephole of the main camera, a one-color LED flash, a fingerprint scanner, which is very conveniently located, a finger immediately rests on it by itself.
The frame of Honor 8 Lite is plastic, although, at first glance, you can't tell, it's a decent imitation. At the top there is a 3.5 mm Mini-Jack for headphones, at the bottom - Micro-USB for charging and synchronization, but I think it's time to install USB Type-C, it's very convenient; on the sides of the "old" connector there are a speaker and two perforations, under the right one of which is just the speaker itself, and under the left one hides a microphone.

The right end has a lock key and a volume rocker, and the left has a "hybrid" slot for sim.

The dimensions of the body are standard for a smartphone with a 5.2 "screen diagonal - 147.2 x 72.94 x 7.6 mm, and the assembly and fit of the elements are precise, nothing creaks or squeezes.

Display

Honor 8 Lite received a high-quality 5.2 ″ IPS-matrix with a resolution of 1920 by 1080 pixels. The matrix is not bad, but by default it is noticeably yellow, but this can be immediately calibrated from the display settings menu. From the useful there is a function of "eye protection".
The viewing angles are maximum, the brightness margin is good, there is even a mode of increased brightness in bright sun. For the first time in a long time, I can complain about the adaptive brightness control, it works sharply, sometimes fluctuates, increasing and decreasing the brightness at the same intensity of ambient light.

Camera

The camera interface and the number of shooting modes are noticeably simplified compared to the company's flagship models.

The Honor 8 Lite is equipped with a 12MP camera module with f / 2.2 aperture optics, the pictures are good, but the dynamic range in room lighting is poor, and the f / 2.2 aperture will not give you great macro.

As for video shooting, the maximum available FullHD mode is 30 frames per second, the main problem is that there is no stabilization of any kind.

The front camera received an 8 megapixel module without autofocus, but slightly lighter f / 2.0 optics, which allows you to get good pictures even in room lighting, in general, it will be enough for social networks.

Performance

Honor 8 Lite runs on an 8-core 64-bit HiSilicon Kirin 655 processor, which is built on a 16-nm process technology, a Mali-T830 MP2 graphics accelerator, 4 gigabytes of RAM and 32 gigabytes of internal memory are available. It is equipped with the same bundle, only with less RAM, so the new Honor 8 Lite works a little faster thanks to the optimization of the shell and operating system generally. Loading it with daily tasks is a mission impossible.

As for games, World of Tanks: Blitz at medium-high settings works great at 40-50 frames per second, and with other games like Modern Combat 5, Asphalt 8, etc. there are no problems at all.

Software

Honor 8 Lite runs on current software Android 7.0 and its own shell EMUI 5.0, which is nice. EMUI is one of the fastest, most stable and convenient shells for Android and its detailed review we will do it when the Huawei P10 arrives, and I hope it will be soon.

Autonomy

The 3000 mAh battery keeps the Honor 8 Lite stable for a day and a half with intensive use. You can discharge it in one day, but you will have to play "heavy" games for two or three hours.

Fingerprint scanner

The Honor 8 Lite fingerprint scanner works 10 out of 10 with dry clean hands.
Standard, for Huawei smartphones by swiping on the fingerprint scanner, you can open and close the notification curtain, flip through photos in the gallery, receive calls and take pictures.

Sound

The sound of the spoken speaker is loud and clear, the main one is simple, it does not differ in special sound quality, the volume is average. The sound in headphones is traditionally weak for budget devices.

Impressions from Honor 8 Lite

The positive impressions of Honor 8 Lite are high level performance, attractive design, good battery life, good camera for its price.

Honor 8 Lite is an excellent solution in its price segment, but it is difficult to call it the best, because for the same money there is and, each has its own pros and cons, and the choice is always yours
The disadvantages of Honor 8 Lite include the lack of an oleophobic coating; wiping such a display from prints is not a pleasant experience.

Getting acquainted with Honor 8 light (12K rubles), first of all, you pay attention to the appearance, although a smartphone can boast of many more. And in fact, the device looks more expensive than it costs, and the build quality and assembly materials only add points to the basket. But the HiSilicon Kirin 655 processor with 8 cores and 4 GB of RAM is responsible for the configuration, such hardware runs a huge number of applications, as well as gluttonous games. Among the advantages, it is also worth highlighting the cameras that take decent pictures in good lighting. In general, we will recommend Honor 8 light for a detailed and close acquaintance shopping mall smartphone will do a wide range of users
