Samsung has unveiled the GALAXY Tab S, the world's first tablets with a Super AMOLED display. Samsung unveils GALAXY Tab S, the world's first Super AMOLED tablets Super AMOLED tablet

Choice tablet computer is not an easy task. Especially now, when the market is just overflowing with the most different models in various price categories. I would like to save money and buy a high-quality model that is convenient to use.

The main element that everyone pays attention to is the screen. In it, it performs both the function of outputting information and its input. For this reason, for the most convenient use, it is required that the screen is large and of high quality.

but big screen entails, firstly, a higher price, and secondly, some inconvenience. Tablet with very big screen cannot be put in your pocket, and it will be inconvenient to hold it with one hand. So what should you look for when choosing?

Before viewing the tablet with the best screen, you definitely need to know what kind of screens there are. A lot depends on this indicator. So, tablets use three types.

Resistive

The simplest and cheapest. They also have a number of positive properties in the form of unpretentiousness to the object being controlled (finger, stylus, etc.), resistance to pollutants, and very low cost.

Despite such obvious advantages, resistive touch screens have great disadvantages. The most important and significant of these is the likelihood of rapid surface wear due to pressing. As a rule, resistive screens last no more than six months. It is for this reason that most manufacturers do not install them on their devices.

Projected capacitive

They can perfectly withstand mechanical stress, respond well to touch. Despite the versatility, this type has some sensor error, and its cost is higher.

Capacitive

They can be called the most reliable and popular. All well-known manufacturers install such displays on their devices. These screens are bright, durable, and quite cheap. They react to special input devices and a finger. If you wear a glove, there will be no reaction.

A tablet with a better screen will naturally have a capacitive I / O device. I must say that this type of display has a lot of varieties, but we will single out a few of the most popular.

Types of capacitive screens

Capacitive matrices can be of the following types:

  • IPS (cheapest and most popular);
  • PLS (similar to IPS, but used exclusively by Samsung);
  • AMOLED (does not require backlighting and a very bright matrix, but eyes get tired of it);
  • Super Clear LCD (touchscreen analogue of LCD monitors).

The screen reaction and its quality are not too dependent on the type of matrix. But the image shows that ordinary cheap IPS displays fade in the sun, while AMOLED and LCD do not.

The tablet with the best screen, of course, will have a capacitive I / O device.

The best tablet screen ever

Very important indicators in determining the quality of the screen are:

  • permission;
  • frequency;
  • image quality;
  • the size.

Let's take a look at the tablet with the best screen and make a comparison in the form of TOP-6, gradually approaching the leader.

№ 6

So, the last on the list is the tablet. Asus Memo Pad HD 7... Although this gadget has a rather small (seven-inch) screen with a modest resolution of 1280 × 800 pixels, it is very bright and colorful. The implementation of the color scheme is excellent here. The image, which is easily viewed on the screen, is quite detailed and rich in color. With this tablet in the form of pre-installed software comes a special one, which makes it possible to easily adjust all display settings and make it exactly the way you want.

№ 5

In fifth place is a gadget called Amazon Kindle Fire HDX 7... In our country, this tablet is not very popular, but in the world markets it is among the twenty best-selling. The model from Amazon offers users a very high-quality 7-inch display with a good resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixels. This is the screen that is installed in Google's 2013 Nexus.

The image of the device is very clear, colorful and detailed. But at the same time, the cost of the Kindle Fire is lower than its competitors. The sensor response is good even in severe frosts. Also, thanks to a special matrix, it is convenient to work on this tablet in any light.

№ 4

The fourth place is deservedly occupied by the famous Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 8.0... Probably not one modern man who would not have heard of this line of tablets. But the eight-inch model has become a legend precisely because of its colorful screen. It was appreciated by even the most demanding people who prefer to buy an expensive tablet, but of high quality. The display resolution is not the highest that the market can offer, but this does not prevent this gadget from producing bright and clear pictures.

№ 3

Bronze medalist at this moment is the brainchild Google called Nexus 7... This tablet was released in 2013 and immediately became one of the most coveted devices for the progressive youth. The screen resolution of this device is 1920 x 1200 pixels. But at the same time, their concentration on one square inch is quite dense, since the display diagonal is only seven inches. Bright and contrasting, this one will interest anyone.

№ 2

The silver medalist is the second brainchild from Google - Nexus tablet 10 ... Why did he come in second? Just such a gadget with a huge, bright, colorful and clear screen cannot be ignored. The sensor has good responsiveness, and all applications and games literally "fly" thanks to powerful processor and big random access memory.

A gadget with a huge, bright, colorful and clear screen cannot be ignored

№ 1

Gold in our TOP-6 is awarded to the only device that does not run on the Android OS. This, you guessed it, Apple iPad on iOS... Whatever one may say, but the laurels of the championship always go to an already experienced manufacturer, who has proved himself to be excellent, producing quality products for many years.

The iPad screen has the highest resolution at 2048 by 1536 pixels. And this is with a ten-inch diagonal. This display can truly be considered the best in the world. But, as always, for the convenience and high quality you have to pay very well. For this reason, such a gadget will not be affordable for everyone.

This display can be considered the best in the world.

New with the best screens

  1. A device called Jolla Tablet was presented to the public quite recently. It is scheduled to go on sale in the first half of 2015. The difference is its own OS called Sailfish. In addition, the gadget has a seven-inch screen with a resolution of 1536 × 2048 pixels. It implements the technology of the matrix IPS LCD with support for 5 points at the same time. This toy will cost users about $ 200.
  2. The second gadget with good display that recently hit the shelves is Dell Venue 8 7000... Its colorful, bright and sun-resistant OLED screen measures 8.4 inches with a resolution of 1600 x 2560 pixels. In addition to the display, the gadget has another distinctive characteristic in the form of a case thickness - only 6 mm.
  3. Another novelty is Galaxy Tab S with a screen diagonal of 8.4 inches. This "monster" has at its disposal eight cores, three GB of RAM and a gorgeous screen with a Super AMOLED matrix. The technology allows you to simultaneously support up to ten points, there is a finger scanner and much more. If you want to get an ultra-modern, almost perfect colorful, fast tablet, and at the same time there is a desire to preserve your eyesight, then this gadget is for you. Naturally, for such a "toy" you will need to pay a rather impressive amount - $ 400, which is relatively expensive. But in return, you can get a device that has ideal parameters.

So, when choosing a tablet with the best screen, you need to pay attention not only to the number of pixels (resolution), but also to the brightness of the screen, as well as to the possibility of making individual settings. If working and playing with the gadget takes a long time, you need to take care of your eyes. This will help tablets with high-quality capacitive screens.

Not so long ago, the Alldocube company announced its new tablet with high-quality display Super AMOLED by Samsung. The novelty has received the simple name X and is soon preparing to go to Indiegogo.

Good afternoon, Habr!

It happened last week! Samsung introduced a new line flagship tablets GALAXY Tab S - the first in the world mobile devices with Super AMOLED screens large diagonal... The introduction of such displays allowed not only to significantly expand the range of reproducible colors, but also to reduce the dimensions, weight and power consumption of the tablet. What else can we boast about? Follow the cat!

▌ IRON

The dimensions of the screens of the announced new products are not quite standard - 8.4 and 10.5 inches. The tablets are equipped with two cameras: a 2.1 megapixel front module and a main 8 megapixel sensor with autofocus. Exynos 5 Octa processors (4 cores 1.9 GHz + 4 cores 1.3 GHz), 3 GB of RAM on board and rechargeable batteries at 4900 and 7900 mAh, but about graphics applications The Mali-T628 MP6 processor will take care of it. The devices are equipped with built-in memory of 16 or 32 GB and slots for microSD memory cards with the possibility of expanding data storage up to 128 GB.

There is also a microUSB port, 3.5mm audio output and an infrared port for control household appliances... Well, let's not forget about wireless Wi-Fi interfaces 802.11ac MIMO and 4G LTE Cat. 4. Tablets work under Android 4.4.2 KitKat with Magazine UX proprietary interface. They are one of the thinnest and lightest mobile devices on the market: both models are 6.6 mm thick and weigh 467 grams for the 10.5-inch version and 298 grams for the 8.4-inch version.

▌ SCREEN

Let's take a closer look at the GALAXY Tab S screen. It is Super AMOLED with WQXGA (2560x1600, 16:10 aspect ratio), covering over 90% of the Adobe RGB color space. In comparison, standard LCD panels exhibit color gamut only about 73% of the Adobe RGB space, and in some cases even less. A wider color gamut allows the screen to more accurately reproduce pure, saturated colors - blue, red, green, turquoise, lemon and other colors. At the same time, if, in the case of conventional LCD screens, attempts to increase the color gamut lead either to a radical complication of the design or to an increase in power consumption, then Super AMOLED screens, on the contrary, provide both good energy efficiency and compactness (because there is no need for a separate backlight module ). At the same time, the image contrast on the Super AMOLED screen can reach 100,000: 1, which is one hundred times higher than on a conventional LCD screen.

In addition, the adaptive screen function is able to automatically adjust the brightness and color rendition depending on the brightness and color temperature of the ambient light, as well as the way you use the tablet. By the way, now you won't be able to scold the screen for unnaturally bright colors: the settings provide several color profiles (AMOLED Basic, AMOLED Photo and AMOLED Cinema), so if the standard parameters upset the user with excessive brightness and unnatural color reproduction, you can simply choose another mode to your liking ... Since Super AMOLED technology does not require a separate backlight module, the GALAXY Tab S uses less power than comparable LCD tablets.

▌ OPPORTUNITIES

What's new have learned to do new tablets? At first, Samsung GALAXY Tab S supports multitasking, which allows you to open two applications on the screen at the same time and it is quite comfortable to work with them. Simultaneous video viewing, content sharing and receiving a call from a subscriber will no longer be something unusual - now it will become an everyday reality for owners of a new tablet. It is worth noting the Quick Connect function, with which the GALAXY Tab S quickly finds and connects to devices nearby for easy content sharing (available on both Wi-Fi and LTE versions).

The usefulness of the new SideSync 3.0 feature cannot be overemphasized - a convenient symbiosis that unites your Samsung smartphone GALAXY and GALAXY Tab S into one ecosystem. First of all, this saves especially lazy users from having to reach for their smartphone in case of an incoming call or message - SideSync 3.0 will allow you to display the smartphone screen on the tablet screen and immediately answer from it. Transferring files and copying text between two devices, forwarding a phone call or message from a smartphone to a tablet - all this can now be done in real time via wireless network Wi-Fi.

Samsung GALAXY Tab S tablets have a special multi-user mode: one device supports up to 8 user profiles, for each of which you can select individual design settings and a list of programs. For families with small children, there is also a child mode that has already gained popularity on the Samsung GALAXY S5 - a combination of a beautiful and simple interface, functions parental control for how and for how long the child uses the tablet, as well as reliable protection of data stored on the tablet - from files to lists of calls and messages.

Unlocking the tablet, as well as protecting personal files and authorizing in different systems and services can be performed using a fingerprint scanner built into the Home button. For each of the 8 users, you can register 3 fingerprints, which provides both convenience and security: unlike a regular password, a fingerprint cannot be spied on or picked up.

SERVICES AND APPLICATIONS

Samsung has done a lot of work on the quantity and quality of free content and applications available as standard on new tablets. Samsung Service to view magazines, Papergarden will debut on GALAXY Tab S. In addition, GALAXY Gifts should be noted: Samsung has teamed up with many mobile content producers and service providers to offer GALAXY Tab S users a huge amount of useful content and services for free. Through Samsung's strategic partnership with Marvel, GALAXY users Tab S will be able to become members of the Marvel Unlimited club for three months free of charge and, after downloading special application, access a collection of over 15,000 comics.

Kindle for Samsung will offer Samsung GALAXY Tab S users a free book available every month through Samsung Book Deals, as well as access to a huge selection e-books in the Kindle Store. The new proprietary service MILK, which is an analogue of Spotify and Google Music, will select music to suit your mood. In fact, this is an Internet radio that will always be at hand, and the main advantage over competitors is the absence of a monthly fee. Samsung has a longstanding partnership with Google play, thanks to which GALAXY Tab S users will receive a special gift - access to large selection films, entertainment content, a variety of books and magazines.

It was a very interesting model - not only because of the unusual screen diagonal, but also thanks to the Super AMOLED Plus matrix. Unfortunately, the price of the tablet was very high, so it did not achieve massive success. But the successor to this device was never released: until now, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 remains the only tablet with an AMOLED screen on the Russian market. The Americans were more fortunate: they had another model with a similar screen released in the summer - Toshiba Excite 7.7. We will meet her today.

Toshiba does not sell tablets in the Russian market. And in the US market, there are two lines of tablets available: Excite (more expensive) and Thrive (cheaper). Thrive tablets run on NVIDIA Tegra 2 and ship with Android 3.2, which is pretty much an outdated solution. The Excite line is more interesting. It includes four models: one 7.7 "and three 10.1".

The 10.1-inch models are very attractive in terms of price-performance ratio, but they don't have anything out of the ordinary to justify buying a device overseas (with subsequent shipping costs and the risk of a lack of warranty service). The Excite 7.7 model is a different matter. Its main feature is the AMOLED screen. Again, besides Toshiba, only Samsung has released a tablet with an OLED display. So, comparing the Excite 7.7 should obviously be with the Galaxy Tab 7.7, and in addition to it, it is worth including in the comparison two other hits of this year - iPad mini and Google Nexus 7.

An interesting picture turns out. In terms of cost (including shipping from the States) Toshiba Excite 7.7 will be cheaper than Samsung, but significantly more expensive than iPad mini and Google Nexus 7. As for features / characteristics, Toshiba Excite 7.7 is perhaps a little ahead in terms of them.

For completeness, we present full list of the Toshiba Excite 7.7 specification.

As you can see, the tablet lacks HDMI support, as well as MHL. But on the Web, there is information about a special docking station for Toshiba Excite 7.7 - multi-dock (catalog price - $ 80), which allows (even without root access) to connect two USB drives to the tablet and external screen via HDMI. Alas, we could not find this wonderful accessory on sale.

Well, let's take a closer look at the tablet.

Equipment

The tablet is sold in a box of an unusual shape that opens like a crushing loaf. On the box we see a photo of the tablet itself, as well as fairly detailed technical specifications of the device.

The package is minimalistic: quick guide user, a set of flyers, Charger American style and USB cable.

Design

The appearance of the tablet makes a very good impression. I would even say that among the seven-inch tablets, the Excite 7.7 is among the best in terms of design. This is not visible in the following photo, but the device really looks expensive and of high quality.

Its main advantage is a metal back panel with a corrugated texture. This sets the Excite 7.7 apart from the mostly plastic Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7. There is only one color available, named Champagne Silver by the manufacturer (the material itself is Etched Aluminum).

The edges of the device also look very nice (although they are not made of metal, but made of plastic - however, painted to resemble metal). Also worth noting are the two eye-catching speakers on the bottom. Between the speakers is a proprietary dock connector (through which the tablet is charged and synchronized with the computer).

As for the location of the buttons and connectors, here you should pay attention to the presence of Micro-USB (on the right side), which supports the connection of external drives. That is, using an adapter from USB Female Type A to Micro-USB, you can connect a regular flash drive to the tablet and access the files on it.

In addition to Micro-USB, the right side houses a 3.5 mm headset / microphone jack and a microSD slot.

All buttons are located on the top edge: these are Power, a lock lever for changing the screen orientation and a volume rocker.

The left side of the device is free of any connectors.

Alas, there is no HDMI connector (Samsung did not have it) and 3G (Samsung did have it).

In general, the design of the Toshiba Excite 7.7 seems very good to us. And the build quality did not disappoint.

Screen

Alexey Kudryavtsev, editor of the “Monitors” and “Projectors and TV” sections, carried out a detailed examination of the screen using measuring devices. Here is his conclusion.

The tablet screen is covered with a glass plate with a mirror-smooth surface and, judging by the reflection of bright light sources in it, has an anti-glare filter. There is a special oleophobic (grease-repellent) coating on the outer surface of the screen, so fingerprints do not appear as quickly as in the case of ordinary glass, but are removed more easily.

At manual control brightness, its maximum value was 138 cd / m², and the minimum - 31 cd / m². These values are obtained when the white field is displayed almost the entire screen. However, in this tablet there is a non-switchable automatic brightness adjustment depending on the area of the white field (rather, on the overall lightness of the image). Therefore, with a ratio of areas of 50/50 black field to white, the maximum brightness of the white field is 238 cd / m², and with a ratio of 75/25 - 250 cd / m². That is, the less white there is on the screen, the brighter it is. Taking this into account, as well as less black field lightening under the influence of external light, the readability of this screen in bright ambient light conditions is higher than that of typical LCD screens.

Automatic brightness control works according to the light sensor (it is located to the right of the front camera indicator): in complete darkness, the brightness decreases to at least 31 cd / m² (acceptable), in an office environment, the brightness is set at 60 cd / m² (normal), in very bright illuminated environment - increases to 138 cd / m² (up to the maximum, the data was obtained when the white field was displayed almost in the entire screen), while the screen brightness automatically changes both upward and downward.

This tablet uses an HD AMOLED matrix (active matrix on organic light-emitting diodes), which determines special properties: the screen has very good viewing angles, and the black color is so black that the contrast parameter is simply not applicable in this case. When viewed from a perpendicular view, the uniformity of the white field is very good. The switching of the state of the matrix elements is actually performed instantly, so the response time can be equated to 0. The gamma curve built on 32 points did not reveal any blockage in highlights or shadows. The bend in the resulting gamma curve can be explained by automatic change brightness while increasing the overall lightness of the image. This bend does not allow to reliably calculate the index of the approximating power function(it is shown in the graph just to maintain consistency between tests):

The color gamut is very wide, much wider than sRGB:

Apparently the components are well separated. The spectra confirm this:

As a result, the colors are highly oversaturated and unnatural. The fact that the spectrum of the white field in the given spectra lies below the spectra of the components also indicates a decrease in brightness when the white field is displayed on the whole screen. Color temperature balance is medium because grayscale has a high color temperature:

The deviation from the spectrum of an absolutely black body (delta E) is less than 10, which in this case is very good (the dark areas of the gray scale can be ignored, since the color balance there does not matter much, and the measurement error at low brightness is large):

Apparently, the Toshiba AT270 has the same HD AMOLED matrix as the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7. However, the AT270 does not disable automatic dimming when the overall image luminance is increased. Also in this tablet there is no possibility of choosing a color profile with a reduced color gamut. As a result, using the Toshiba AT270 for viewing photos and films is somewhat problematic - especially for films, since, for example, it is difficult to feel the drama of the moment if the characters' faces are carrot-red instead of normal skin tones. It turns out that, despite the great potential in the form of high (formally infinite) contrast, zero switching time and good readability in conditions of bright external light, the manufacturer failed to create a screen with good consumer properties. All it was necessary to provide for the choice of a profile with sRGB coverage, as is done, for example, in the Samsung Galaxy Note 2.

Note that not all of the website editorial staff who saw the tablet agreed with this verdict. Some of them loved the Toshiba Excite 7.7's vibrant, saturated colors. But there were also those who agreed that the colors were too harsh and unnatural, tiresome for the eyes. In general, before buying this device(especially if it sooner or later enters the Russian market) it makes sense to hold it in your hands and try to form your own opinion, since the perception of color is a rather subjective thing, and the main thing here is whether you like it or not, not the testing numbers.

The tablet supports multitouch. 10 touches are recognized at the same time.

Performance and battery life

The Toshiba Excite 7.7 tablet runs on the familiar NVIDIA Tegra 3 in the basic T30 modification, which assumes the frequency of each CPU core 1.4 GHz when loading multiple cores and the GPU frequency of 512 MHz. Note that the Google Nexus 7 has a less efficient modification of the same SoC.

In terms of performance, there are no surprises for us here, so we will simply present the test results in a general table and briefly comment on the overall result.

As we can see, the Toshiba Excite 7.7 outperforms the Galaxy Tab 7.7 in all benchmarks. Moreover, in some tests (AnTuTu, Geekbench), the superiority of Toshiba over Google Nexus 7 is obvious, which is logical, since Toshiba has a more powerful version of Tegra 3. However, in general, the comparison should be done with caution, since the tablets were tested under different versions operating system(Samsung - Android 3.2, Google - Android 4.1, Toshiba - Android 4.0) and, in the case of Google and Toshiba, on different browsers(since OS 4.1 Google pre-installs Chrome browser). Therefore, let's say the SunSpider results (where the Toshiba device lost to the Google tablet) are not very revealing.

In a separate table, we put the results of GLBenchmark 2.5.1, which tests 3D performance.

And here, oddly enough, Toshiba loses to Google, although the screen resolutions of these tablets are identical. However, the difference is not too big - there is much more difference between the Excite 7.7 and the iPad mini. If Apple tablet lost in processor benchmarks, then 3D graphics is the territory in which it dominates so far.

In general, we can summarize that the Toshiba Excite 7.7 is one of the most powerful tablets of a similar diagonal on the market (7 or 8 inches). Although it cannot be called an absolute leader: it overtakes the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7, but keeps on the same level (in some way overtaking, in some way inferior) with the iPad mini and Google Nexus 7.

Of course, the question immediately arises: how does this affect autonomous work? However, our tests showed that all the excitement about this was in vain: Excite 7.7 not only did not yield to the Google Nexus 7 and iPad mini, but also significantly surpassed them. Perhaps the reason is the economy of the AMOLED screen.

Thus, Toshiba Excite 7.7 is not only one of the most economical, but also one of the longest-playing tablets among the models of a similar diagonal.

Operating system and applications

The tablet comes preinstalled with Android 4.0.3 OS. After testing, the Android 4.1 firmware was released for it, but all screenshots in this article were taken with Android firmware 4.0.3.

It should be noted that both in terms of the set of applications and the design of the desktop, the manufacturer took good care of the users. On the desktop, we see six groups of icons, which contain pre-installed applications that are not included in the standard Android package (with the exception of the Google folder).

Among these applications - Adobe reader, QuickOffice Light HD ( free version office suite allowing to open Word documents, Excel, PDF and PowerPoint), Dice Player, Amazon Kindle reader, Amazon MP3 music purchase service (alas, useless in Russia), a set of board games (Klondike, Worms, Backgammon, etc.), a service for free playing popular games ( with the condition of viewing ads) ...

And also Kaspersky antivirus for tablets, News Place news service (aggregator of news from Western sites), a very good file manager own development Toshiba.

Let's also note an interesting detail: when the page scrolls slowly in the browser, the image darkens and turns blue a little. What it is connected with is unknown, but even after installation new firmware problem still exists.

Nevertheless, in general we were very pleased with the software component of the Toshiba Excite 7.7. You rarely see such an amount additional applications not included in the traditional delivery set.

Cameras

The Toshiba tablet, as befits a modern tablet, is equipped with two cameras: front (for video communication) and rear. The rear camera is a big plus compared to the Google Nexus 7, in addition to this, its resolution (5 megapixels) is higher than that of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7.

The quality of the rear camera is quite decent. Here is a snippet of a shot from a building window during the day:

The clarity is good, the artifacts are not striking, the color rendition is normal.

The next frame is a fragment of a snapshot of a sheet of paper lying on the windowsill.

There is already a lot of dirt here, but the text is readable everywhere (and a similar situation was with all takes), so the tablet camera can be safely used to photograph any documents and texts.

But the video filmed with the rear camera, alas, did not please us. Firstly, its maximum resolution is only 720p (while the same iPad mini shoots 1080p), and secondly, the image turns out to be unnatural and too blurry. This is certainly better than budget tablets, but still far from the desired. A sample video (3GP, 30.6 MB) can be downloaded.

Front-camera has a resolution of 2 megapixels and is quite suitable for video communication.

conclusions

The Toshiba Excite 7.7 is a very interesting and attractive tablet for a number of parameters, which is worth paying attention to those buyers who wanted to buy a Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.7 a year ago, but for some reason did not realize this desire. Excite 7.7 has a similar AMOLED screen and a better design than Samsung. And also with significantly higher performance. The main obstacle is the lack of Excite 7.7 in the official sale in Russia. Therefore, it will have to be ordered from Western online stores. But for enthusiasts, this shouldn't be a big problem.

One can only complain that tablets with AMOLED screens are such a rarity on the market. Apparently, for the time being, manufacturers of AMOLED matrices cannot organize the production of a sufficient number of products of the required quality and characteristics, therefore tablets with AMOLED screens (as opposed to tablets with IPS) are not yet becoming massive. But, probably, this problem will come sooner or later. And at the same time - they will develop and begin to pre-install software on all devices that allows you to conveniently adjust the screen parameters so that the advantages of AMOLED screens do not turn into disadvantages.

We are honoring the Toshiba Excite 7.7 with our Original Design Editorial Award for the combination of an AMOLED screen and a sleek metal back case.

Good afternoon, Habr!

It happened last week! Samsung has unveiled a new line of flagship tablets GALAXY Tab S - the world's first mobile devices with large diagonal Super AMOLED screens.

Exynos 5 Octa processors (4 cores 1.9 GHz + 4 cores 1.3 GHz), 3 GB of RAM on board and batteries for 4900 and 7900 mAh are responsible for the performance of the tablets, and the Mali-T628 MP6 processor will take care of graphics applications ... The devices are equipped with built-in memory of 16 or 32 GB and slots for microSD memory cards with the possibility of expanding data storage up to 128 GB.

There is also a microUSB port, 3.5mm audio output and an infrared port for controlling home appliances. And let's not forget about the Wi-Fi 802.11ac MIMO and 4G LTE Cat. 4. Tablets run Android 4.4.2 KitKat with Magazine UX proprietary interface.

In comparison, standard LCD panels only show a color gamut of about 73% of the Adobe RGB space, and in some cases even less.

Firstly, Samsung GALAXY Tab S supports multitasking mode, which allows you to open two applications on the screen at the same time and it is quite comfortable to work with them.

The usefulness of the new SideSync 3.0 feature cannot be overemphasized - a convenient symbiosis that unites your Samsung GALAXY smartphone and the GALAXY Tab S tablet into one ecosystem. First of all, this saves especially lazy users from having to reach for their smartphone in case of an incoming call or message - SideSync 3.0 will allow you to display the smartphone screen on the tablet screen and immediately answer from it. Transferring files and copying text between two devices, forwarding a phone call or message from a smartphone to a tablet - all this can now be done in real time over a wireless Wi-Fi network.

Samsung GALAXY Tab S tablets have a special multi-user mode: one device supports up to 8 user profiles, for each of which you can select individual design settings and a list of programs. For families with small children, there is also a child mode that has already gained popularity on the Samsung GALAXY S5 - a combination of a beautiful and simple interface, parental control functions for how and how long the child uses the tablet, as well as reliable protection of data stored on the tablet - from files to lists of calls and messages.

Unlocking the tablet, as well as protecting personal files and authorizing in various systems and services can be done using a fingerprint scanner built into the Home button.

Samsung's "Papergarden" magazine viewing service will debut at GALAXY Tab S. In addition, GALAXY Gifts should be noted: Samsung has teamed up with a variety of mobile content producers and service providers to offer GALAXY Tab S users a huge amount of useful content and services for free. Thanks to Samsung's strategic partnership with Marvel, GALAXY Tab S users will be able to join the Marvel Unlimited Club for three months free of charge and, after downloading a dedicated app, gain access to a collection of over 15,000 comics.

Kindle for Samsung will offer Samsung GALAXY Tab S users a free book available every month through Samsung Book Deals, as well as access to a huge selection of e-books in the Kindle Store. The new proprietary service MILK, which is an analogue of Spotify and Google Music, will select music to suit your mood. In fact, this is an Internet radio that will always be at hand, and the main advantage over competitors is the absence of a monthly fee. Samsung has a long-standing partnership with Google Play, which will give GALAXY Tab S users a special gift - access to a wide selection of movies, entertainment content, a variety of books and magazines.

▌ ACCESSORIES

Together with the new GALAXY Tab S, Samsung offers a set of useful accessories.

The Book Cover allows you to position your tablet at specific angles for a variety of tasks - about 60 ° for watching movies, about 30 ° for browsing the Internet, or about 10 ° for typing and working.

If you just need to store your tablet neatly, but at the same time want to have the thinnest possible cover - there is a Simple Cover, which is easy to install and protects the screen. All covers specially designed for the GALAXY Tab S are secured with a new snap system - a simple and secure mechanism.
