Sound masking systems for an efficient work environment

Sound masking systems are a new step towards creating an efficient and comfortable working environment. Today the most common type of office is "Open-office", when there are no partitions in the office, and employees can freely move and communicate with each other. This has a positive effect on the environment in the team and the exchange of information, and at the same time creates additional distractions, the main of which is the speech of colleagues. It is very difficult to concentrate on work when you are surrounded by all sorts of conversations, and you have to be distracted without wanting to. The solution to this problem is the use of sound masking systems from Cambridge Sound Management.

The Samsung WEP 200 Bluetooth headset is a fashion product, its main difference from competitors, which immediately catches the eye, is its miniature size. In general, this is not the first small headset, just remember similar devices from Bluespoon, however, it has a number of features concerning not only itself, but also the delivery set.

Design and construction

The design of the headset is certainly curious. At least the fact that such small headsets are still a novelty on the market, now they are fashionable, rather expensive solutions, but soon, perhaps, such a size for a Bluetooth headset will become, if not a standard, then a common thing. The rest of the design of the device can be characterized by the phrase "nothing to catch on". The body has the shape of a slightly "plump" bar, contacts are visible on the back side, by the way, if you wear them frequently, you may need to clean them. The black color is certainly advantageous, especially in our market, the coating is varnished, reliable, the paint is unlikely to peel off during operation. It was not chosen by chance; upon closer examination, associations with many Samsung phones, although, in principle, the design of the headset goes well with any black phone (take at least the same Sony ericsson W900, Nokia N80).

Both men and women liked the design of the headset, the focus group was small - four men and three women. Everyone noted the miniature size, the good color (except for one girl who did not like the color), they commented positively about the transport case (about it it comes below). And, surprisingly, after an external examination, everyone had a question about wearing comfort and sound quality. Before we talk about this in more detail, I will express a question posed by a girl who did not like the color: "Will the WEP200 be produced in white?" Therefore, this device is perfect for both sexes, but a second, less brutal, color is necessary to attract the attention of women. For example, it might be white. Well, and one more detail noticed, while one of the girls was trying on the headset - WEP200 becomes completely invisible under long hair. How this affects the quality of speech transmission remains unclear, it is quite possible that in no way.

In terms of wearing comfort, be sure to try this headset on before purchasing. As you can see in the photographs, the mount is implemented in a rather unusual way - there is no ear hook, the earpiece is simply inserted into the ear canal, and the fixation is done using a small rubber seal. Alas, the headset just didn't fit me - just tilt my head to the right or left, shake it a little, and the device is on the floor. I was not the only one who measured the headset, other people (I really want to call them experimental), there were no particular problems, but it was not completely clear whether the "wearability" they talked about was thought out because of the attractive design ( the things you like have no flaws, right?) or is it really easy to wear the WEP200 and does not cause discomfort?

The headset is very light, you feel it on your ear only because you know about it (well, and, of course, you also feel the seal in the ear canal).

The delivery set for some countries includes additional eartips, alas, they were not included with the test sample, perhaps the result would be radically different when used with a different earpiece (at least for me). It will be interesting to try to wear the Sony Ericsson HBH IV 835 headset, the earpiece familiar from the HPM-70 wired headset is used there, in theory, it should be more convenient than the WEP200 solution.

The assembly of the device is good, there are no gaps, backlash, no squeaks when pressed.

Control

The device control is quite standard - on the front panel there is a multifunctional button (hang up / receive a call, enter pairing mode, dial the last dialed number, etc.), on one of the ends of the headset (it's just hard to say whether it is top or bottom, right or left) - volume rocker key. In general, the keys are pressed quite easily, clearly, but the owners of large hands will have to adjust for some time - miniaturization has a downside. I would not call my fingers that big, however, I also had to get used to controlling the call volume for some time. This fact cannot be called a problem, rather, it must be taken into account when buying. One more thing: at first, it is not always possible to correctly calculate the force of pressing the multifunction button when answering an incoming call - the headset is pressed into the ear, painful sensations may occur (although, of course, this greatly depends on the size of the auditory canal).

And the last thing about the controls - in order to enter the device into pairing mode, it will take quite a long time to press the multifunction key, so do not be surprised. Be sure to ask the seller to demonstrate this trick.

Nutrition

In theory, it would be necessary to start with the type and capacity of the battery used, but the beginning of this chapter will be different. The point is that in Samsung kit Includes a small case that vaguely resembles a toy chest (there are no fairy tales inside). In order to charge the device, you need to put the headset on the contacts in this case, close the lid, and then connect the charger to it. By the way, it has its own format, it is not a "hackneyed" miniUSB. When the headset is charging, the inside of the case is highlighted in red. As you can imagine, you cannot use the headset while charging.

What can I say here? On the one hand, one can see the manufacturer's attempt to be original - the Nokia BH300 (the dimensions are practically the same) "on the body" has a connector for charger, new "thin" memory is used. Samsung engineers decided to go their own way. Purely subjectively, the decision is curious, it is impossible to assess it adequately until you turn on logical thinking. Well, logic dictates that the same BH300, while it is being charged, can not be disconnected from the phone - when a call comes in, it is enough to disconnect the charger, hang the headset over your ear and start a conversation. In principle, the same can be done with the WEP200, but the process of removing it from the box will take an order of magnitude longer, and purely psychologically, I don’t want to touch the headset while it is in the case. On the other hand, the time to fully charge the headset is not that long, if you put it on charge in the evening, you will not experience any problems with the case. In addition, the additional functionality of the magic box - use as a transport case - makes it even more attractive. And yet, guess who will particularly like this thing (meaning gender)? Who will simply be thrilled by the very process of opening and closing the case, demonstrating it to others?

The headset uses a 70 mAh Li Ion-Pol battery, WEP200 talk time can work 4 hours, standby time - 100 hours, charging time - about two hours.

Here, probably, it is necessary to say and this is what. The headset is one of the few that uses the Bluetooth 2.0 profile. This is great, the seller can tell you about it, but what does it give? Apparently, the main result of using this profile is reduced power consumption, we will talk about this in more detail in another article.

Communication with the phone, sound quality

The headset was tested with two phones: Nokia N80, Sony Ericsson W900. As mentioned above, to enter the device into pairing mode, you need to hold down the multifunction key for a rather long time, this is not very convenient. Otherwise, there were no problems with pairing, however, not only with pairing, but with operation in general - voice dialing works adequately, as well as switching between lines, receiving and rejecting a call.

The sound quality can be described as average, moving away from the phone by more than three to four meters, you hear noises, crackling, in normal mode (one meter or less) they are absent, however, the interlocutors complained that the voice was heard as if from a barrel, asked to repeat spoken louder. You can hear the interlocutor well, there are no problems with that, the volume level is sufficient.

The headset is not equipped with a DSP processor, which will mean this fact for the user - there is no need to explain: it is best to talk in a quiet room, otherwise, if you are, for example, in a supermarket, your interlocutor will enjoy a wonderful addition to your conversation - the voices of people around , speakerphone announcements, etc.

conclusions

Samsung WEP200 is a fashion headset with many "buts". Beautiful, but the quality of speech transmission is noticeably lame. The headset comes with a nice case, but isn't it easier to charge the headset in the usual way? The mounting method is unusual, but is it convenient? The headset has small size and weight, but does it add convenience?

As for the competitors. The average retail price of WEP200 is about $ 100, at first it seems that it can and should be compared with other miniature "luxury" headsets - Jabra JX-10, Nokia BH-800. But this is not so, for understanding it is enough to look at the Nokia BH-300 ( average price- about $ 65) - almost WEP200 and BH-300 are similar, like a brother and sister (in that order). The main differences of the 300th model - you can change the bezels, several pieces of different colors are included in the kit, charging is carried out in the usual way, the design of the device is more "feminine". Most of the characteristics of these devices are the same. Apparently, both the WEP200 and the BH 300 are made on the basis of one “progenitor” headset (most likely from Jabra), we have yet to return to it in the reviews of some devices.

Proceeding from this, an additional 35 dollars when buying a WEP200 (let's take the BH-300 for the “base” price, which is rather big, I must say), the consumer will pay for the case and the black color “included”. The language does not dare to call it a good buy - for $ 100 you can buy a more functional and even more fashionable product (for example, Jabra JX-10). And, nevertheless, the WEP200 will find its buyer, it is quite possible that the majority will be women - sellers can be recommended to immediately demonstrate the charging case, talk about the lightness and invisibility of the device (at this time, the case can be opened and closed, hidden and removed from headset).
