Portable speaker ue boom 2. Hi-fi and hi-end components (miscellaneous) - tests. Battery life

In the fall of 2014, we got acquainted with an excellent, but quite expensive portable Bluetooth-speaker UE Boom, which was one of the best in quality at that time (of course, from the range we have available). At the end of last year, the company announced the second version, but it got to us with a long delay. The Logitech UE Boom 2 has just arrived in our stores.

Logitech UE Boom 2 - portable waterproof speaker with Bluetooth modules, NFC and 3.5 mm jack, built-in battery, two speakers and two passive emitters and its own mobile application with a bunch of features and capabilities.

How is it interesting and how does it differ from UE Boom?

At first glance, the differences from the first version are minimal: in terms of construction and design, the speakers are almost identical. In fact, there are quite a few and significant differences. Firstly, now the acoustics are protected from water according to the IPX7 standard and can withstand immersion in water to a depth of one meter for up to 30 minutes (the previous version was protected only from splashes, IPX4 protection standard) and withstands drops from a height of up to 1.5 m. , with the same dimensions, the UE Boom 2 uses larger speakers and passive radiators with more power (they promise an increase of + 25%). Of the smaller, but pleasant features: the range of action has increased to 33 meters (of course, in ideal conditions, in open areas) and the software component has been significantly updated.

What's in the box?

The packaging has not changed significantly: UE Boom 2 was again shoved into a plastic cylinder with an outer cover, although now everything is inside a little differently organized and the cylinder itself has become shorter, but larger in diameter:

The speaker itself is fixed on a stand, and all accessories are hidden in a special compartment on the top cover:

The kit is similar previous version... In the box: UE Boom 2, a bright yellow noodle-shaped MicroUSB-USB cable, a power supply of the same color, two detachable plugs for different sockets and an instruction manual.

What does UE Boom 2 look like?

The design of the column has remained practically unchanged, and why change the already successful and beautiful design. UE Boom 2 is the same small cylinder with rubberized elements, large volume control buttons on the side and "lining" of dense, high-quality fabric that does not let water through. The column is available in six new colors.

On closer acquaintance, I noticed that the fabric became much denser, better quality and (visually) much more durable. The column is pleasant to hold in your hands:

The upper controls remained unchanged: the power button for the gadget with a built-in LED and the button for pairing via Bluetooth:

The large control buttons remain the same. They big size and are pressed quite tightly. When pressed simultaneously, a voice is heard, which notifies about the state of charge of the battery (there is a Russian language):

Separate playback control buttons are still not provided, but there is such an opportunity and we will talk about it a little later, when we move on to the software's capabilities. On the lower part there is a metal mount for the carabiner and connectors, which are protected by a rubber plug, as in the previous model, but now this very plug is "inscribed" into the speaker case:

Under the plug are a MicroUSB with a small LED to indicate the charging process and a 3.5mm AUX jack for connecting a source using a cable. By unscrewing the mount for the carabiner, you can screw the column onto the tripod, there is a corresponding hole with a 1/4 ″ thread. In this regard, UE Boom repeats its predecessor:

As for the water resistance of the column, then, indeed, the UE Boom 2 turned on does not feel any problems and discomfort after being completely immersed in water:

The fabric (if you can call it that) repels most of the water and only the rubberized part of the column remains wet after removal:

UE Boom 2 calmly withstood a couple of falls to the floor from a height of human height without any marks, so the manufacturer's statement about shock resistance is also absolutely true. The first UE Boom looked great and, accordingly, the second version is no worse. Moreover, subjectively, it is assembled even better, plus a denser and more durable fabric is used.

What about the connection, working distance and proprietary software?

As in the previous version, the Bluetooth version is not specified, the manufacturer limited itself to mentioning support for A2DP, the HFP1.5 profile, up to 8 devices and stated that UE Boom 2 works at a distance of up to 33 meters (twice as long as the previous one). In real conditions, the column worked for me without problems through two walls at a distance of about 10 meters, in an open space I walked 20 meters (by eye), again the signal was stable. There was no particular desire to measure 33 m with a tape measure, but in the conditions of a summer cottage everything works perfectly. There is an NFC module, which also works properly, it is located in the area of the volume control buttons. There is a microphone of normal quality for speakerphone.

The branded application has been significantly updated, although the general logic and functionality has remained the same, something new has appeared, and the design has become more concise and pleasant. UE Boom 2 supports Bluetooth Smart (Bluetooth LE) and any devices (of course, also supporting the corresponding specification) can remotely turn on and off the speaker. The moment the smartphone detects that the UE Boom 2 is turned off, a power button and a battery indicator appear in the application. When the speaker is turned on, it emits characteristic sounds, and the schematic image on the screen is colored in the color of the connected speaker. There are four main menu sections at the bottom of the screen:

The first item is responsible for the simultaneous connection to the source of two pieces at once. Interestingly, you can use not only two identical UE Boom 2. It is also possible to connect the first generation Boom or Megaboom:

The second tab is the equalizer. There are four preset modes for different cases(the "i" button in the upper left corner opens a window with tips on how to use them) and a custom one that you can customize yourself:

There is still an alarm clock. Functions and settings are standard: one-time or daily, volume and track. It rings with increasing volume, you can postpone (doze mode) or turn it off by sliding across the screen:

In the last tab, you can see the column serial, software version, run a visual manual for use and go to the settings. In the settings, you can change the name, language of notifications, notifications, enable or disable Bluetooth Smart and Tap Control:

Tap Control is a new "trick" that allows holding the UE Boom 2 in your hand to switch the track by double tapping the top or to pause / start playback back with one clap. Another one new opportunity- Block Party. You can switch to it with a swipe from the main screen of the application. The function allows you to connect simultaneously to three sources and "twist" the music in turn:

How does it sound?

The speakers have increased in size compared to the first version: 2x45 mm (1 3/4 ″) drivers and two passive low-frequency radiators measuring 45x80 mm (1 3/4 ″ x 3 ″). For comparison, the first UE Boom had 1.5 "drivers with 2" passive heatsinks. Frequency Response Range: 90 Hz - 20 kHz. The maximum sound level is 90 dBa (the previous one is 88 dBa). The speaker is said to have become 25% louder. Unfortunately, there was no way to compare with UE Boom, so I will not confirm or deny this statement. UE Boom 2 still sounds great (as for this class of devices) across the entire frequency range, the bass is really there and quite rich. UE Boom 2 sounds 360 °, which is especially important in nature. The volume reserve is also very pleased: the acoustics are enough for listening to music in the country without any problems, and in the room it makes sense to set it to the maximum only when very large area... For any standard apartment, there is an abundance of stock, you should not turn on the maximum. Of the competitors, one can single out only JBL Charge 2 + / 3. They can compete in sound quality, but JBL produces directional sound, while UE sounds in all directions. Plus the JBL is bigger and heavier.

How long does the battery hold?

The declared 15 hours can be obtained at a low volume, but in real conditions it turns out about 11-12 hours, which is also a lot.

In the dry residue

Logitech has made excellent Bluetooth acoustics even better: UE Boom 2 sounds great (of course, within the device class), now it is not afraid of immersion in water and falls within reasonable limits. The radius of action has become larger, while the dimensions, weight and time autonomous work remained at the same level (weight increased by only 10 g, and diameter - by 2 mm). The column looks great, is made of very high quality and has a number of useful additional functions... The main disadvantage of UE Boom 2 remained unchanged. The price tag on the official website is similar to the first generation (while they were on sale): $ 200. In Europe, they are traditionally transformed into 200 euros, which at the current exchange rate is about 5550 UAH. The real price tag in stores is a little less than UAH 5900.

5 reasons to buy Logitech UE Boom 2:

  • Excellent sound quality;
  • water resistance according to the IPX7 standard (full immersion to a depth of 1 meter);
  • cool design and workmanship;
  • handy application with useful functions;
  • large radius of action.

1 reason not to buy Logitech UE Boom 2:

  • High price.

A portable speaker is always relevant for people who do not sit still and constantly get out of the house somewhere. In most cases, these are country trips to nature, walks in the woods, and so on. At such moments, your favorite music is always at hand. And the column must withstand all the hardships of such travel. And UE Boom is fine for all this.

Completion and packaging

The device comes in a large, elongated packaging. The outer layer of cardboard with beautiful printing and all kinds of necessary technical information... The cardboard is removed and exposes a plastic tube, in which the speaker itself is hidden, as well as a Micro USB cable and a power supply. By the way, they are universal and suitable for charging any of your gadgets.
Despite the original box, nothing more interesting was found in the kit. It would be great to complete such a device with a carrying strap. This is logical, because a special ring is provided for this right on the body of the acoustics. Where to get such an accessory from the manufacturer is unclear.
Perhaps it would be nice to put in the box to the device and some kind of carrying case. It can be tough, it can be not very, but something like that will probably come in handy on the farm. In my practice, it also happened that portable speaker I transported in the car. He found a place only in the trunk, and there I have a lot of things and some of them can damage the body of the device. Of course, this has not happened yet, but you never know.

Design

Of course, I don't know for sure, but I think that the manufacturer, when creating the design of his column, was guided by the following principles: bright, stylish, minimalist. However, when developing such a device, which should attract the views of consumers, and, moreover, a young audience, it is very easy to get off the right track and ultimately create something colorful, lurid and generally tasteless. Nowadays it is mainly Chinese noname companies who try to copy what JBL or Ultimate Ears have come up with and "raise" the design bar even higher. The result is something similar to ... I don’t know what.

Sound quality issue similar devices shouldn't be taken into account at all. It has its own dance. Of course, all these gadgets find their customers and attract mainly due to the price. However, the sound quality, style - all this is not about them. But all this is in UE Boom, but first things first.
This is not to say that I really liked the device externally. It is cool, minimalistic, it has all sorts of cool stuff (the connectors are covered with rubber plugs, a metal loop for the strap), but somehow all this does not catch the eye.
The design, though youthful, is somehow calm and restrained. For those who are in five minutes an office clerk looking to wear patent leather boots and ironed shirts. Certainly not sneakers and Hawaiian shorts, as it looks the target audience from advertising brochures of the company.
In any case, the all-blue color is somehow not impressive. I want something more catchy. The main body is covered with thick fabric material. The rest of the seats are covered with rubber. This combination actively resists moisture penetration into the vital elements of the interior decoration of the device. The acoustics can be slightly wet, even wiped with a damp cloth, but you cannot dip them into water. This is the advantage of the second generation UE Boom 2. The first thing that catches your eye is the large plus and minus symbols on the front side, if there is one, of course. By the way, these are real volume control buttons. They look great, but they are pressed strangely. The pressure should be somewhere in the middle of the huge icons. The keys do not have any perceptible response, so whether the volume has been increased or not can only be determined by ear.
There are many colors in nature. There is a basic color bar with five colors. See the picture below.

However, you can find (if you search well) and more exotic colors. Perhaps this is not all.

UE Boom Specifications (1st Generation)

  • simultaneous connection to two audio sources
  • storage in memory of up to 8 connected devices
  • pairing with another UE Boom speaker for enhanced sound
  • signal-to-noise ratio 88 dB
  • operating frequency range 90 - 20,000 Hz
  • two 1.5-inch drivers
  • two passive radiators (hidden in the case)
  • Bluetooth (version not specified)
  • NFC for fast pairing of devices
  • the ability to use as a headset (Hands-Free)
  • battery capacity is not disclosed (for more details, see the section on autonomy)
  • native app support (iOS and Android)
  • dimensions 180 x 65 mm
  • weight 538 g

As you understood from the specifications Ultimate Ears do not want to disclose the technical details of their products (battery capacity, blue tooth version), apparently, the expectation that the consumer should not bother with all sorts of such nonsense. For me, this step is incomprehensible, since it is impossible to understand 100% what we are dealing with.

Functionality

Perhaps one of the most common functions for these devices is the ability to use the gadget as a Hands-Free device. The speakerphone works very simply. When a call comes in, the call is transferred to the column through which you can chat with the subscriber. You don't need to pick up a smartphone for this.

If the stars are so formed that there is another UE Boom nearby, then it can be connected to the source as a second speaker, thereby increasing the sound power. From the marketing side, this all looks cool, but I can hardly imagine that there are a couple of UE Boom owners who know each other who can use this trick. In my opinion, this is an extremely rare use case. Roughly the same can be done and vice versa. Up to two Bluetooth devices are connected to the acoustics. Playback is broadcast in sequence. Some functions, such as battery status, are announced by voice. It's great that there is domestic localization. A cheerful female voice sounds from the built-in speakers, which makes you feel positive vibrations. The only sad thing is that the application did not receive a translation into Russian. Everything is in English.

Sound quality

We settled on a proprietary utility, so we will continue from the same place. You need to adjust the volume in two places: both on the smartphone and directly on the speaker. It would be better if there was synchronization with the sound source. You can customize the sound for yourself through your own equalizer. It's right there in its own app. There are several presets and a small information field describing which particular setting each set is suitable for.

The sound extends to almost all 360 degrees. If you close one side with your palm, then the direction of playback, of course, is slightly limited. For the best effect, the speaker should be placed vertically.

Overall, the sound quality made me happy. Solid, good, portable sound.

I would not say that there is some kind of noticeable dip in frequencies. Mids and highs are always present at any volume. Bass starts to be felt starting at 30% volume. Acoustics thumps, again, not bad. Perhaps even a little too much. R`n`B and the like are great for playback on a device.
I was glad that the column was able to chew heavy (in every sense) genres, such as Metalcore, Heavy Metal and so on. Instruments do not merge into a mess, each of them is heard separately. However, all this is true at a volume not exceeding 75%. This is the limit quality sound, and then the instruments start to get lost against the background of each other. There are no problems in terms of volume. The maximum power is enough to cover a small hangar with sound, and 3/4 is enough for a home party.

Battery life

Then the oddities began. The manufacturer claims 15 hours of battery life. There is a neat postscript that the power consumption depends on the content being broadcast and the volume set. And this is one hundred percent true.
I want to say right away that I was a little shocked. Twice.

First, at maximum volume when transmitting an audio stream over Bluetooth speaker worked only 2.5 hours!

This is an extremely weak indicator. All sorts of bad thoughts about the honesty of the manufacturer began to creep into my head until I ran the second test. Here the column surprised me again.

She was able to hold out on a single charge with the volume set to an average value for as much as 30 hours and 20 minutes!

All my hopes are for quick test autonomy, which according to my estimates will take 5-6 hours maximum, collapsed. I love listening to music, but for 30 hours it’s a bit too much. It's scary to imagine how much the device will lose at 30% volume. She, by the way, is enough for you for any night gathering around the fire. You don't need to take a guitar.
Thus, the claimed battery life of the UE Boom is achieved if the sound is set at about 75% volume. This, as I said earlier, is the maximum limit for quality playback. Then the porridge begins and it is no longer possible to listen to it. Full charge time does not exceed the standard two hours. Of course, this means power supply through the complete Charger(5.1B and 2A).

Ue boom 2

The second generation of our acoustics has recently been released and this is what has changed.

Something was cheated with the sound, the diameter of the drivers was increased, but the main thing is that the protection from moisture was increased. Now the acoustics can be rinsed in a mountain stream, if before that it fell into a muddy puddle.

Outcome

The UE Boom is not a home speaker that can be dragged from room to room. If the user wants to buy it for home, then the acoustics will be sad, since they will not be able to realize themselves 100%. After all, it was created with an eye on the active rest of its owner. You can take it with you almost anywhere, throw it into the trunk, hang it on a bicycle, put it in a backpack pocket, and with all this, you can not part with your favorite music.
I liked the sound quality. From this point of view, the speaker is one of the best portable speakers that fell into my hands. In its weight and size segment, of course. The main thing is not to turn the volume up to maximum and everything will be fine. The second bold plus is autonomy. 15 hours of continuous playback at 75% volume and more than a day at average. All of this is a claim to be the most autonomous acoustics on the market. The speaker has only one very serious drawback - the price. Now they ask for 9,990 rubles for it, but usually it costs even more. Competitors are cheaper, but also offer less. If it's a little critical best sound and serious autonomy, it is worth overpaying and buying UE Boom.

During summer vacations, travels, vacations and other entertainment events, you want to have high-quality acoustics at hand. For example, you came to the beach, stream or lake with a big company, grill a barbecue, you want to turn on some kind of musical accompaniment for all this happiness. Apparently, travel and outdoor activities have become very popular lately, as portable acoustics have begun to be sold at times more actively. Having a cool speaker in your backpack that can loudly and clearly play your favorite tracks has always been a pleasure, and now you have a lot of opportunities in terms of choosing and buying a not very expensive one. portable acoustics... Almost all manufacturers who are somehow connected with electronics began to produce their own acoustics and it pleased us not only with the build quality, but also with the sound quality, design and the ability to use it not only in hikes and travel, but also at home. Nobody bothers you to take portable speaker, connect it to the power supply and use it at home instead of speakers. Today we will tell you about the most popular and interesting models that caught our eye. There may be a lot of options, in the future they will also be included in the collections, but today these options will diminish.

Beats Pill

It's no secret that Beats' acoustics have always been different high quality and stylish design. This time, the manufacturer also decided not to surprise us too much - the same shape of the case, the same options color design... The acoustics have acquired an NFC chip that allows you to quickly connect your device to the speaker. The device works by wireless connection, there is a line-out, so you can connect the device both at home and on the road. Works Beats Pill up to 30 meters wirelessly, the sound quality is up to the mark. Listen well to both upper and lower frequencies as well as the middle, there is a bright and clear bass, without noise and rattling. The device is perfect for those who want to carry a cool and stylish device around the city with them. True, there were some drawbacks. For example, a speaker is often faked and the sound quality is noticeably lower there. So try to verify the authenticity of the device. It is also worth noting that you cannot install a memory card here, autonomous operation is at the level of 5 hours, and 30 meters in fact will be no more than a dozen. Nevertheless, the cost is not high, the column is worth its money for sure.

Logitech Ultimate Ears Boom 2 Phantom

Logitech has unveiled the next generation of its legendary portable speaker system. Previously, Logitech Ultimate Ears Boom received a lot of awards and in 2013 it simply conquered the market, now the second generation is out and it is much more attractive than many competitors. The Logitech Ultimate Ears Boom 2 is delivered in a special case that allows you to easily transport the speaker and all accessories, inside there will be a speaker with a plastic case. In total, the manufacturer presented five color options for the case. The column is protected from immersion under water - you can lower it 1 meter under water for 30 minutes and everything will be fine. In addition, the speaker is not afraid of knocks - it can be transported in a backpack, fastened in place of a bottle on a bicycle, and so on. Naturally, the sound of the speaker is excellent, it perfectly transmits all frequencies and bass, there is a proprietary application for a smartphone, there is a long battery life of the product without a network connection. Although, at home, in front of the computer, the device looks good. And the cost is adequate, you can pay money for such power and quality.

Samsung Level Box Pro Black

The Korean company has long been a favorite in many markets and acoustic systems Samsung also did pretty good ones. New product called Samsung Level Box Pro Black has a very high power - as much as 20 watts. This is quite enough to throw a real party on the street or make the neighbors of your apartment nervous. Despite the high volume, the sound turned out to be very clear, all instruments, high and low frequencies are easily listened to, there is a bright bass, which is good news. In terms of sound quality, this speaker is one of the best on the market. In addition, the manufacturer tried to make the design as versatile as possible - you can use the Samsung Level Box Pro Black at home, near a TV or laptop, and on a walk with friends. Although, there is no protection from water here, and in the pouring rain, we would not recommend using this particular option. The novelty wins due to stylish design, high-quality sound and a well-known brand. One of better solutions for most users, so if you were looking for something versatile then this is the best gadget in its category. The cost is 9900 rubles.

The House of Marley Get Together

Portable acoustics The House of Marley stands out on the market and it is immediately noticeable even by appearance devices. The column was created in the spirit of the famous Bob Marley, and this can be seen in the design of the gadget, and in the materials, and in the sound. Shredded bamboo wood is used for the front and back panels, which will not deteriorate over time. There are a lot of edging for the main panel - many designers and the manufacturer himself are constantly releasing something new, but there is a chip that unites all these styles. The material is fabric and plastic, which were obtained from recycled plastic bottles and other garbage. Thus, you saved nature from pollution, and received a cool design. Four speakers are responsible for the sound here - two with a diameter of 1 "and two with a diameter of 3.5". In addition, there is quite a powerful amplifier, which ultimately gives 16 watts of power to the column. It looks gorgeous, sounds loud and clear, and there are tons of opportunities to use the product. The cost, however, is 16 thousand rubles and it is a little expensive for portable acoustics.

Marshall Portable Speaker Stockwell Black

The Marshall Portable Speaker Stockwell Black is the most advanced speaker on the market. If you compare with competitors, then you will notice advantages in terms of frequencies, and in terms of battery life, and in terms of body materials. The body is covered with vinyl, it looks very expensive and stylish, it does not get so dirty and it lies very pleasantly in the hand. output power the speaker is 27 watts - enough for a small disco, not to mention home use or work on the beach or lake. The sound is clear and bright, frequencies from 50 to 20,000 Hz are supported, there is decent bass, so all modern Pop-songs sound cool in general. The speaker works both on battery and from the network, so if you want to connect the system at home, no problem. From its own battery, the column lasts up to 25 hours. This is just a huge amount of time that no other column will allow itself. The only significant disadvantage is the cost of the product - 21 thousand rubles. For that kind of money, you can get tons of other gadgets, but this one is without a doubt the best.

Fifteen hours of work in offline, interesting design of the case, the program for iOS / Android allows you to choose an equalizer, set an alarm. Well, and finally, the UE Boom even has a tripod socket (!) - if you need it, be sure to write in the comments.

Design, construction

The column looks great, the cylinder is sheathed with some kind of dense fabric, the official website says that the case is protected from water - apparently from drops. Or maybe not, there is a cover for USB connectors and AUX, if desired, you can close all the holes. By the way, the connectors are on the bottom, don't be surprised by the ring, underneath there is a tripod thread (!). This is exactly the first time I see it. Under the "minus" button there is an NFC area, you can connect the speaker to a device that supports this technology. The column is available in several colors, the color of the matte plastic and the fabric itself differ.

I got a blue and white UE Boom, there is also a black one with red accents, green with blue, pink, red and white and yellow. There are colored inserts in the volume control buttons at the end, it reminds me of a cross very much, and not to me alone. Nowhere without a nameplate with the company logo, this is already becoming the rule for manufacturers of a wide variety of equipment.

Control

Two large volume buttons, a Bluetooth button, a power button - that's all. The indicator lights are neat, when you turn on the UE Boom, an interesting sound comes out, something like drums (probably a bongo). The same sound when turned off and during any other actions with the speaker. There were no problems with pairing. If you press the volume buttons at the same time, the speaker will tell you the remaining operating time.

Program

There is free program for iOS / Android, I downloaded the iOS version. There is a visual guide to the main functions here, let's talk about some separately:

  • Two UE Boom speakers can work as a stereo pair or play the same track each on its own
  • There is a microphone here, so you can use the speaker as a speakerphone (I tried it, everything is fine, but the interlocutors say that the voice volume is low)
  • Alarm clock, set in the application, you can select a track from the library, Internet radio or a built-in melody as a signal
  • The speaker's firmware can be updated, for this you need to download the firmware file, there is software for both OS X and Windows, connect the device using a microUSB cable, run the utility and wait until it finishes. Some functions cannot be used without a software update
  • Equalizer presets, four settings in total: loud (universal), gain low frequencies, privacy (strange name), voice, optimal for podcasts, movies - if you decide to watch on iPad or iPhone
  • General settings columns, you can change the name, see the battery charge, select desired language notifications, equalizer settings, view software version
  • Supports Bluetooth connection to two devices at the same time. Let me remind you that in addition to Bluetooth, you can use a cable

Do I need to install the program? Yes, you do, you get additional features.

Nutrition

The column can work for about 15 hours, the operating time is genuinely surprising: it seems, small device, but the need for an outlet will not arise soon. That is why I would recommend UE Boom to everyone who often goes out into the countryside, rides bicycles, goes to picnics. I can't wait for the warm weather to be able to do all this. Please note that the bundle includes a cheerful yellow cable, on the bottom of the device is a microUSB connector.

When connected to an iPhone, the speaker charge indicator appears on the display.

Sound

For me, the benchmark for speakers of this form factor is JBL Pulse. This is where they contrived and did an incredible thing both in terms of design and sound.

UE Boom does not have any lights, but the sound quality is good, especially if you play with the equalizer (I liked the privacy setting) and do not try to include poor quality tracks, you can hear very well if there is some kind of rubbish going on. At maximum volume, the bass does not break into a wheeze, there is a noticeable sound effect around, it is a pleasure to listen to electronics, not electronics - too. The best option for trips and picnics.

Still, compared to the Pulse, the low frequencies are a bit lacking. Everything else is great. If you are interested, I also listened to this record.

conclusions

In the US, a column costs about two hundred dollars, we are asked for 10,000 rubles - in my opinion, it's expensive, few people know about Ultimate Ears, and even more so about UE Boom. However, if the price does not bother you, you can safely buy. Withstands being on the beach, an excellent application for iOS / Android, the ability to independently update the software, select presets, connect any equipment via Bluetooth or cable, good quality sound, cool design. If you are looking for special effects, the JBL Pulse is worth buying. If not, pay attention to UE Boom, I liked the column.

Plus, 15 hours of battery life is serious.

Sergey Kuzmin ()

In the fall of 2014, we got acquainted with an excellent, but quite expensive portable Bluetooth-speaker UE Boom, which was one of the best in quality at that time (of course, from the range we have available). At the end of last year, the company announced the second version, but it got to us with a long delay. The Logitech UE Boom 2 has just arrived in our stores.

What is it?

Logitech UE Boom 2 - portable waterproof speaker with Bluetooth, NFC and 3.5 mm jack, built-in battery, two speakers and two passive emitters and its own mobile application with a bunch of features and capabilities.

The kit is similar to the previous version.

UE Boom 2 is the same small cylinder with rubberized elements, large volume control buttons on the side and "lining" made of dense, high-quality fabric that does not let water through.

They are large in size and press quite tightly.

By unscrewing the mount for the carabiner, you can screw the column onto the tripod, there is a corresponding hole with a 1/4 "thread. In this regard, the UE Boom repeats its predecessor:

There are four preset modes for different cases (the "i" button in the upper left corner opens a window with tips on how to use them) and a custom one that you can customize yourself:

There is still an alarm clock. Functions and settings are standard: one-time or daily, volume and track. It rings with increasing volume, you can postpone (doze mode) or turn it off by sliding across the screen:

In the last tab, you can see the column serial, software version, run a visual manual for use and go to the settings. In the settings, you can change the name, language of notifications, notifications, enable or disable Bluetooth Smart and Tap Control:

Tap Control is a new "trick" that allows holding the UE Boom 2 in your hand to switch the track by double tapping from above or to pause / start playback back with one clap. Another new feature is Block Party. You can switch to it with a swipe from the main screen of the application. The function allows you to connect to three sources at the same time and "twist" the music in turn:

How does it sound?

The drivers have increased in size compared to the first version: 2x45mm (1 3/4 ") drivers and two 45x80mm (1 3/4" x 3 ") passive woofers. For comparison, the first UE Boom had 1.5" drivers with 2 "passive radiators. Frequency response: 90 Hz - 20 kHz. Maximum sound level - 90 dB (in the past - 88 dB.). It is claimed that the speaker has become 25% louder. Unfortunately, the opportunity to compare with UE Boom was not, so I will not confirm or deny this statement.UE Boom 2 still sounds great (as for this class of devices) across the entire frequency range, the bass is really there and quite rich.UE Boom 2 sounds 360 °, which especially important in nature. The volume reserve is also very pleased: the acoustics are enough for listening to music in the country house without any problems, and in the room it makes sense to set it to the maximum only with a very large area. it. Of the competitors, only JBL Charge 2 + / 3 can be distinguished. They can compete in sound quality, but JBL produces directional sound, while UE sounds "in all directions".

The range has become larger, while the dimensions, weight and battery life have remained at the same level (the weight has increased by only 10 g, and the diameter - by 2 mm). The column looks great, is very well made and has a number of useful additional functions.
