Conclusion

Both firmware are very high quality and stable, great for everyday use. The main and perhaps the only drawback of both firmware is excessive power consumption, but this, of course, is the price for all the features of Sense 3.5, compared to other custom firmware for Desire without Sense (for example), the battery lasts 10-15% less. But the speed of both firmware is excellent; the developers really managed to achieve almost perfectly smooth and fast operation.

The best firmware for HTC Desire with Sense shell - Runnymede and RuHD:
rating 80 out of 80 based on 80 ratings.
There are 80 reviews in total.

Most recently on the site developer.htc.com appeared official firmware For HTC Desire. This update to version Android 2.3 Gingerbread Although it is available for download to anyone, it is not available from the update menu in the smartphone itself. This is due to the fact that Desire has a rather small amount of memory and the developers do not recommend upgrading to 2.3 ordinary users. Not included in the updated firmware background pictures, Facebook app and some programs HTC Sense.

1. Preparing the smartphone for firmware.

The first thing you need to do is save your contacts to a memory card. To do this, click on the screen "Telephone", go to address book(where all contacts are displayed) and press the hardware button menu. From the menu that appears on the screen, select "Import Export" and choose "Export to SD card" and get the file on the flash drive "pcsc_pcsc_00001.vcf" or another type with an extension. vcf file.

We copy all the data from the SD card to the computer, just in case, because photos and possibly others are stored there necessary files. We format the SD card to delete all no longer needed data on the card. After all, all programs will have to be installed again, and they will create directories on the card for themselves. Let's go "Settings""Device memory""Remove memory card""Clear SD Card".

Reset HTC Desire before initial settings, then all installed applications will naturally disappear, but the phone will immediately free up all possible free space in the memory of the device itself and there will be no problems if free space is needed during the firmware. So let's go to "Settings", Further "Device memory" and the lowest point will be "Factory reset". After the reset I got 136 megabytes free space.

2. Download the firmware.

Well, of course, you need the firmware itself, download it either from our website using this link - or from the official HTC website.

After downloading, we see 4 files in the archive:

  • Flashlight_signed_07072011.apk- flashlight
  • teeter_signed_07072011.apk- ball game
  • htc_wallpaper.zipbackground pictures(archived)
  • – the firmware itself (archived)

Because Android 2.3.3 takes up more space then standard programs(flashlight and toy with a ball), as well as the “wallpaper” were removed by HTC developers from the firmware and made in the form individual applications, which you can install if you still need them.

I'll get ahead and say that after resetting to factory settings, the same android 2.2 (official update) on my HTC Desire, 136 megabytes freed up. After updating to firmware 2.3.3 there was 128 megabytes of free space. I think you won’t be afraid of losing 8 megabytes of free space, because now almost all applications can be moved to an SD card.

3. What is needed?

Find and unpack the firmware itself ( HTC Desire Android 2.3 Upgrade.zip). There are 2 files inside, PDF instructions and EXE which is a self-extracting installer, after launching which, the firmware and flasher are unpacked into a temporary folder and automatically launched.

Let's see what the instructions recommend. The first point is the characteristics of the PC on which the firmware will be installed. At least a gigahertz processor, 512 MB of memory or more, 150 megabytes of free disk space and USB 2.0. operating room Windows system, starting from XP Home and ending with 7 Ultimate.

4. Connection and HTC setup Desire for firmware

Install HTC Sync, if you don't have it installed yet. If installed but not running, then launch it. Download HTC Sync you can from this site, via the link - or from saya.

We connect your HTC Desire USB cable to the computer, select synchronization on the display. If everything goes well, then HTC Sync will see the device on the computer. I recommend connecting to system unit, since when connected to USB hub in the monitor, when installing the firmware I got an error ( ERROR : USB CONNECTION ERROR), which reports an incorrect connection or driver problems.

We check that your computer does not go into sleep mode when inactive and after a certain number of minutes have passed. Well, I also advise you to remove the inclusion of the screensaver. Closing everything unnecessary programs on the computer.

Disable screen lock. Let's go to "Settings""Safety""Change blocking method" or ( "Set up screen lock") — "Unprotect".

Checking the battery charge level (V official instructions recommend at least 30%). Let's go "Settings""About the phone""Battery".

Launch the flasher, file " RUU_HTC Desire Android 2.3 Upgrade (Gingerbread).exe»

Attention! Don't forget to save all data from your phone (contacts and files from the memory card). Do a factory reset and clear the memory card. And remember that after flashing all your data and settings will be reset.

The firmware installation takes about 10 minutes, do not pull the cable out of the phone or computer, do not press buttons on the phone and it is not recommended to use the computer, wait until the procedure is completed.

5. Updating HTC Desire to Android 2.3 Gingerbread (flasher instructions)

Once again, make sure that you did a factory reset, which led to the removal of all installed applications on your smartphone and reset the settings.

In the first window, simply click “ Next" In the next window, we are again warned that we need to delete all data from the phone and are asked to read ReadME (instructions in English).

The third window reminds you to disable hibernation mode in windows, battery charge level and check USB connections cable.

We check the box and click “Next”, after which the connection of the smartphone to the computer and the status of the device are checked.

After a successful check, in the next window we see the “Update” button.

Click on this button and see in the next window the firmware version on the device and the version to which your Desire will be flashed, click “Next” again.

And the last window that appears, before the update process, tells us that by clicking the “Next” button, the process of flashing the device will begin, all information will be displayed on the screen, and upon completion we will receive a message about successful update devices. It’s not too late to refuse, but we click “Next” again.

Began! This is what all this was done for, the process of updating your HTC Desire to Android 2.3.3 has begun

It all looks like a small window with a progress bar, a message that the process will take about 10 minutes, under no circumstances touch the USB cable connecting the smartphone to the PC.

Upon completion, we receive a window with a “Finish” button and a message in English that the process has been successfully completed.

Hooray! Now yours HTC Desire works under Android 2.3.3

We restore contacts and necessary data from backup copies and reinstall the necessary applications.

Possible error messages:

ERROR : FILE OPEN ERROR– file reading error, try running “RUU_HTC Desire Android 2.3 Upgrade (Gingerbread).exe” again

ERROR: MAIN BATTERY POWER– the smartphone battery charge is less than 30%, put it on charge and try it when the battery is sufficiently charged.

  2. Connect your smartphone to your computer.
  3. Open command line and enter fastboot oem rebootRUU.
  4. Next – htc_fastboot flash zip /rom.zip, where XXXXX is the path to the firmware.

Installing firmware.zip

Another way to install stock firmware. The requirements are the same as for the RUU image.

Algorithm of actions:

  1. Download the appropriate firmware, then place the archive in the fastboot folder. Change the name of the firmware to “firmware”.
  2. Boot the device into bootloader mode. Connect to PC.
  3. Open a command prompt. Write the path to the folder where fastboot is located. For example cd c:\androfon.
  4. Further fastboot oem rebootRUU.
  5. After the phone restarts and HTC appears, enter . An error message will appear on the screen, this is normal, please enter again fastboot flash zip firmware.zip.

How to flash HTC Desire?

HTC Desire is a communicator (smartphone) with operating system Android. It was developed by HTC. Let's talk in more detail about how to flash HTC Desire in various ways.

Preparing for firmware

Firmware is a replacement or update software phone for a new one. Flashing a phone's firmware is the same as reinstalling Windows on personal computer. To successfully install the firmware, you must complete the following steps:

  • To obtain superuser rights (root rights) on the website unrevoked.com, download the “Unrevoked” program. Root rights are a special account in UNIX systems. The owner of such an account can perform all operations without exception.
  • Launch the downloaded program and select the “Hboot Driver” file. Next, follow the instructions to install the HBOOT driver. You can download drivers for self-installation at unrevoked.com.
  • Next, you need to disable Desire and enable it in the HBOOT system. This can be done using Power buttons And Volume Down. Press them at the same time.
  • Then the smartphone must be connected to the PC when USB help cable. We wait until the word HBOOT USB PLUG appears and go to “Device Manager”. Right click mouse click on Android device 1.0 and select the “Update drivers” section.
  • Click on “Search for drivers on this computer.” Next, you need to select the folder into which the drivers were unpacked.
  • Exit the HBOOT menu. The Volume Up, Volume Down buttons (moving through menu items) and the Enter button will help you with this.
  • In normal mode, start your smartphone and enable USB debugging mode.

If you installed HTC app Sync, remove it, but leave the drivers. Next, launch Unrevoked and connect your device to your PC. Give your consent when asked for information. After that, wait. The device will reboot and the message “Unrevoked 3 Painless root and reflash” should appear.

How to flash HTC Desire: main part

The procedure will be as follows: first download the firmware. You can download it on the website 4pda.ru. Recommended firmwares are RuHD and InsertCoin.

Next, you need to clear all user data. To do this, in the device menu, select “Settings” -> “Privacy” -> “Reset data”. This can also be done using the firmware recovery mode. To do this, go to the Recovery menu, select the “Wipe data/factory reset -> “Yes” section. Due to this, the firmware modules will not match.

How to install the firmware file for HTC Desire?

  • In the Recovery menu, select the “install zip from sd-card” file. If necessary, disable or enable signature verification (Clockwork).
  • Next, find the firmware zip, select it and run it.
  • When the installation is complete, you will see “Installation completed”. Restart your smartphone and wait for the download to start.

Firmware installation usually takes about fifteen to thirty minutes. In the end you should get new version Android.

How to expand memory for applications?

The phone firmware itself takes up a lot of free space. In order to download various applications, your smartphone may not have enough free memory. In this case, it will help you special program. For this:

  • Download the "ROM Manager" program from the Market and run it.
  • Next, find the item “Create partitions on the SD card.” Select ext partition size.

I am the proud owner of an HTC Desire A8181. When I purchased it a year ago, my joy knew no bounds. Came out after a while Samsung Galaxy S, HTC Desire HD, HTC Incredible S, etc. and then one fine day the era of “monsters” began on 2 cores with powerful graphics coprocessors (I think there is no point in listing the models)

I realized that I had a phone in my hands, which I bought “gray” for almost $700, but then it was a “monster”, now it’s hardly relevant against the backdrop of fresh interfaces and high performance. Since the warranty had come to an end, I decided not to waste time and squeeze everything I could out of my “desire”. The first thing I did was get my license ROOT, then S-OFF. Let me explain:

ROOT— in other words, “granting super-user rights” allows you to feel more free in managing your phone, working with applications, almost all of them (with ROOT rights) become on the memory card; the ability to create Ext (the system will see the allocated space on the memory card as part of the phone’s memory) and Swap (a section that works as a “swap file”, as if creating an additional amount of RAM) partitions.

S-OFF- Security OFF - disable phone protection to “expand the capabilities” of working with it.

Then I flashed the latest version of the radio module (responsible for signal quality in the GSM/CDMA network, stability Wi-Fi work). Then there was the question (the most interesting thing) of installing custom (modified/ported from another device, more colorful/productive) firmware.

In this article I will talk about 4 firmwares that on my HTC Desire showed themselves the brightest and differed from other firmwares in a number of “features”, “usefulness” and “goodies”. Let's get started.

In order not to clutter the blog with huge screenshots, you can view them slightly reduced in flash. Full length screenshots !

MIUI. (currently relevant for me personally.FCR_MIUI_R29.3, but there are many modifications of this firmware)

The appearance of the firmware is beautifully “licked” from the iPhone. NTS Sense is missing from the firmware. The settings menu looks the same as in the iPhone. Ability to customize themes and background not only for the desktop, but also for the lock screen. The ability in the lock screen to jump directly to the phone (dialer) / SMS / simply unlock the screen (by the way, this function was used in MIUI earlier than in Sense from NTS), at the bottom of the desktop there is a scroll bar - under it there is a block of dedicated programs that you can fill in yourself / edit

Performance. The firmware does not slow down or freeze in any way. Based on the test results in Quadrant, NeoCore, Benchmark AnTuTu, we can conclude that MIUI is a very productive and fast firmware!

Personal opinion: The firmware is original, clearly differs from others, has a unique appearance, has high performance and its own proprietary add-ons. It is not suitable for everyone, “Apple phobes” should avoid it! Those who have nothing against the iPhone and its interface - I advise you to take a closer look!

Oxygen. (I tested oxygen-2.1.4)

What we have before us is what is called “naked” Android. The NTS Sense interface is missing (a sacrifice in the direction of performance). The firmware looks insufficient - everything was removed from it - NTS Sense, all the built-in programs, and even the set of widgets is limited. But this is the whole essence of Oxygen - this is the firmware that the user “cuts” for himself, installing only those applications and widgets that he needs.

It is also possible to install additional those, by using which the device changes before our eyes (I used Oceanis_oxygenv2-6). There is a specialized menu from Oxygen in which you can make serious settings regarding the phone.

Performance. The firmware has proven itself well, it’s really fast, which is why it’s popular.

Personal opinion: the ability to customize the device for yourself; everything that could slow down the capabilities of the device has been cut out. This is one of the most productive “naked” Androids. Suitable for all those who are chasing performance, who are looking for the most customizable firmware option. But in my case, some system glitches occurred: the bottom bar of programs disappeared into nowhere, or the phone rebooted itself, in general, it was a little unstable.

CyanogenMod 7.

Again, we have before us “naked” Android, without the NTS Sense interface. The firmware is notable for the fact that it is updated once a day, CyanogenMod 7 has the concept of “nightly” - nightly (frequent updates), the guys from this team update the firmware every day, and when they release a stable version, they post it separately, calling it stable, which logical

The firmware is also quite productive and very “customizable”, and to the maximum, you even need to install applications from Google separately. Quite fast and stable, unlike Oxygen (perhaps this is only in my case).

Performance. The firmware behaves well and in simple situations and at moments of special stress. It performed well in tests.

Personal opinion: An excellent alternative to Oxygen, frequently updated, stable, fast. Suitable for all speed seekers. In my case, the sound of the speaker was reduced

RCMixS. (I used version RCMixS_v2.1_A2SD_CM7Hboot_TEST4).

This is the brightest and juiciest firmware I have ever installed. NTS Sense 2.1+3.0 is used here. The firmware is “live”, very beautiful, but cannot boast of performance unlike the firmware listed above. Everything is compensated by beauty.

Performance. Performance is low, but not lower than on the “native” firmware for HTC Desire. IN everyday use There is no sense of slowness in the device - bad results are visible only in tests, but not in practice.

Personal opinion. This firmware is just a dream for those who are looking for firmware with Sense. In it, Sense does not glitch or crash, animated wallpaper, weather and active icons on the lock screen - everything works fabulously. NTS Sense 2.1+3.0 is only here and only now! It feels like your Desire is turning into Sensation, or at least Incredible S. I still can’t get over it myself.

My verdict

  1. 1.The most original is MIUI
  2. 2.The most productive (fast) - MIUI / Oxygen / CyanogenMod 7 (to each his own)
  3. 3.The most beautiful - RCMixS

Of course, there are still a huge number of firmwares for HTC Desire, and they are all interesting in their own way. In some cases, a more interesting interface, in others, the camera behaves better and shoots HD video, in others, perhaps something else unusual. Everyone chooses what they like best and sets their own priorities. I showed an example on my HTC Desire, but similar firmware (radically changing the impression of the device) is available for almost every Android smartphone, so I wish you good luck in flashing the firmware!

Thank you all for your attention, I hope my work helped someone, someone was just interested, in any case - good luck to everyone!
