Virtual operators are those operators that do not have their own base stations, and they use "physical operator" stations.

There are currently two virtual operators operating in Poland: Vergin and Lycamobile.

They also offer telecom and internet packages.

Virginmobile offers data packages from 300 MB to 10 GB per month, costing from 4 to 25 zlotys.

Virgin - many different data packages, ranging from 100 MB per month for 2 zlotys, ending with 30 GB for 35 zlotys.

Registration of SIM cards in Poland

Upon arrival in Poland, you can purchase a starter package both in small shops and in mobile phone stores and shops household appliances. There are often queues at mobile phone stores.

In 2016, Poland passed the Law “On Combating Terrorism,” which introduced mandatory registration of SIM cards purchased in Poland.

To register a card, you will need a passport or other identification document.

You can register your phone in mobile phone stores, post offices, and large household appliances supermarkets. The whole procedure takes 5-10 minutes. Your data is entered into the database, then you receive an SMS with a code that needs to be communicated to the employee - that’s all.

A parent or guardian can register a card for a child under 13 years of age. To do this, you must provide the relevant documents and write an application. After the child reaches his 13th birthday, the SIM card can be re-registered to him.

We continue our series of articles about which SIM is best to buy in Poland. In the situation with cellular communications - what types of operators are there, what services they offer, where to buy SIM cards, how to register them, how to top up, what tariffs are available (in general). In this article, we examined in detail the prepaid (starters “on the card”) and postpaid (subscriptions/contracts) offers from the largest Polish operators - T-Mobile, Orange, Play and Plus.

But, as we found out in the first part, in addition to these “mastodons”, there are many more so-called “virtual” operators operating in Poland. They are called that because they do not have their own network infrastructure. They operate on the networks of other operators, buy traffic from them in bulk, and offer their own tariffs to subscribers. They are indeed very profitable, since “virtuals” do not need to maintain customer service offices and many other employees. They provide all services via the Internet.

Virtual operators are both “independent” and not entirely virtual - in the form of subsidiaries of large “opsos” (this allows them to offer lower prices to economical categories of users). The advantages of “virtuals” are free calls within the network (and to the networks of other “virtuals”, if they have the same basic operator), as well as affordable roaming. Let's get to know each one individually.

Heyah

A subsidiary of T-Mobile, it is positioned as a youth operator.

Starter costs 5 zlotys, then you can choose one of 4 tariffs for it - S, M, L, XL. Each involves replenishing the account with a certain amount monthly. Included traffic is from 1 to 5 GB. Unlimited messages are also available in all tariffs except S. A minute of conversation costs 0.29 zł, SMS - 0.14 zł. Interestingly, after you spend 29.99 zlotys on calls, all the rest will be free for you. But if you wish, for PLN 24.99 per month you can activate the option of unlimited calls to any Polish numbers (activation code *140*250#). Or buy a package of 60 minutes for 10 zlotys (*100*841#).

Available traffic packages:

I am glad that there are options for cheaper communication with numbers from CIS countries, especially Ukraine (Polish specifics):

As you can see, for example, calling Russia costs 0.69 PLN/min. For “non-virtual” operators this is three times more expensive. And with Heyah you can, for example, choose your favorite Ukrainian number and call it without restrictions for 10 zlotys for a month. Or choose three numbers (Kyivstar operator or landline) and call them for 0.35 PLN/min, the service costs 9 PLN per month.

Heyah also offers season tickets. But not simple, but indefinite. I mean, your hands are not tied for two or three years - you can terminate the contract at any time. Tariffs are also “letter” - S, M, L, XL, but more expensive than without a contract. Each option includes unlimited calls with subscribers of any operators (within the country, of course). Unlimited SMS on all tariffs except “junior” S. Additional rates Internet costs are the same as in “on the card” tariffs.

Virtual operators usually don’t offer phones at discounts, but since Heyah is a subsidiary of T-Mobile, they periodically have interesting promotions. IN this moment are offered Huawei smartphones and HTC with a 2-year contract (PLN 29 per month).

Heyah does not have payment expiration dates. To activate store replenishment dial *109*<код_с_чека>#. Balance check - *108#. Find out the rest of the traffic package - *125*7*# or SMS “Stan” to number 8010. Online account replenishment - . Mobile apps are available for iOS and Android.

A secondary brand from Orange. Also aimed at young people.

There are usually two “starters” available for sale – for 5 and 20 zlotys (although sometimes there are promotional options with “gift” traffic). There is no difference between them, it’s just that in the first case, 5 zlotys are credited to the account, in the second, respectively, 20. After activation, the account is active for 7 or 31 days, then you just need to top it up and you will receive an always active number without any payment expiration dates - this is a plus.

By default, a minute of conversation costs 19 groschen, SMS - 9 groschen, 1 MB - 19 groschen.

It is possible to connect various packages. For example, for 29 zlotys per month you can get unlimited calls and messages to any numbers and 10 GB of internet (activation code *127*63#). More precisely, the system is like this: you won’t be charged 29 right away, but will be charged according to the tariff. But when you spend 29 zlotys, you won't pay more. It’s the same story with calls to any Polish landline numbers in this package - pay no more than 10 zlotys for them.

There is another tariff - 19. The principle is the same - no more than 19 PLN for calls to cell phones, no more than 10 PLN for calls to landlines, no more than 9 PLN for SMS/MMS, no more than 19 PLN for 3 GB of Internet. The service is activated with the code *127*56#.

Perhaps “day” rates are more suitable for you. There are two of them available, each costs 6 zlotys (for activation). “ Wszystko komórkowe dziennie” - pay no more than PLN 1.20 for calls mobile numbers, SMS and MMS, as well as for 250 MB of traffic. “ Do komórkowych” - pay no more than 99 groschen for calls to subscribers cellular communications in the country. The rest of the tariffs are standard.

Regular packages are one-time use; there is also one available for 1.5 GB, which is activated automatically once a month.

Balance checking at nju mobile is carried out with the code *127*1#. To find out the rest of your data package, send SMS with the word “ILE” to number 8022. Link to replenish your account. nju also has an app for Android. Not available for iOS yet.

Being a subsidiary of a major operator, nju also offers subscriptions. The term is unlimited, the contract can be terminated at any time. The principle “you won’t pay more than this much” also applies here.

Tariff “jeden na wszystko” - full unlimited and 13 GB of traffic. “Wszystko komórkowe” - unlimited for everything except landline numbers and 10 GB of Internet. “Rozmowy i internet” - unlimited for mobile numbers + 1 GB. “Do komórkowych” is an analogue of the miesio 19 tariff described above.

English virtual operator, which is positioned as a good option for travelers. Eat Special offers for exotic countries. The starter costs 5 zlotys, it is found in stores, but not very often. By the way, you can order a free SIM from the website. Lycamobile operates on the Plus network.

The cost of calls abroad and in roaming can be found on this page, there are a huge number of countries available. Especially nice rates for calls to “Lycamobile countries” (that is, those where this virtual operator still operates - they are listed in the screenshot below). But communication with the CIS countries is not particularly profitable.

Lycamobile does not have any clear tariffs, but there are simply a huge number of packages available - for calls, for the Internet, and so on. You can configure your “tariff” yourself and pay for what you need, or choose one of the “all-in-one” options.

In our opinion, the most interesting options are “Do Wszystkich”. For example, for 10 zlotys per month you can get 100 minutes of calls, 100 messages and 1 GB of internet. Quite enough for budget-conscious users. Other operators do not have such affordable tariffs with included minutes and SMS.

In fact, this is not even a virtual operator, but a joint product from Play and Red Bull.

There are two starters available for sale - for 5 and 9 zlotys.

The first does not have any included bonuses, you can use it “as is” or buy additional packages:

As you can see, the validity periods are 3, 7 and 30 days, the cost is 3, 7 and 30 zlotys. All calls and messages are unlimited, only the volume of traffic packages differs.

Red Bull Mobile also has traffic bonuses for replenishing your account. But without expiration dates for payments, there’s nowhere, alas.

Prices for additional traffic packages:

The second starter costs 9 zlotys and offers unlimited LTE internet. ATTENTION: LTE only and only from the Play network. 2G/3G traffic is paid separately. So you either need to always make sure that the phone is within the LTE coverage area, or buy an additional data package in advance. Well, as usual, the unlimited limit is conditional - 200 GB at full speed, then it is cut back. Although 200 is quite generous.

Also, as in the 5 zloty tariff, bonuses are available for replenishing your account.

As well as additional traffic packages.

To check your balance and manage services/packages, use the code *111#. Top up your account from the website - .

"refurbished" smartphones and fun gadgets like smart watch and drones.

Virgin Mobile

A virtual operator created by famous entrepreneur Richard Branson. Operates in the UK, Australia, Canada, South Africa, USA, France and Saudi Arabia. Well, in Poland (based on the Play network). A “starter” SIM costs 5 zlotys.

To check your balance, dial *101#. Find out the remaining traffic - *108#. Top up your account via the Internet. Virgin Mobile apps for mobile phones available at this link.

After purchasing a SIM card, you need to select and activate a tariff plan. There are six of them available!

Includes 30 minutes of calls and 30 SMS to any Polish numbers (including landlines), as well as 300 MB of Internet. Additional traffic can be purchased at the following rates (as well as minutes and SMS):

Rate #PEENLUZ costs 19 zlotys per month and includes 5 GB of internet (+ you can get the same amount as a bonus for another 5 zlotys). Rate #BEZLIMITU, as you might guess, unlimited with 7 GB of traffic. Rates #NAJLEPIEJ And #DLAMNIESUPER Internet packages differ in size. There is another option #DLAMNIESUPERX6— purchase of a “wholesale” tariff for 6 months.

You can see prices for additional packages of minutes, messages and data.

Plush

Virtual operator owned by Plus networks. Again, “stylish, fashionable, youthful.” There are 3 starter packages available for sale, and they correspond to the three available tariffs.

The tariff for PLN 15 per month includes 3 GB of traffic and unlimited SMS. For PLN 19 – 5 GB, unlimited SMS and favorable price for calls mobile subscribers(9 groschen/minute). For 29 zlotys you will receive “unlim” SMS and calls to cell numbers, as well as 10 GB of traffic. And access to Facebook is free in all tariffs (activated with the code *136*11*01#).

A useful promotion (apparently, unlimited) is free LTE. Activate the service using the code *101*11*24#. Traffic will be completely free for you when you are in LTE networks(and we found no footnotes about traffic restrictions).

Additional traffic packages do not differ in variety:

To check your balance in Plush, dial *100#, to activate a payment voucher - *123*telekod#. Check the rest of your Internet package - *121#. Top up online - .

The virtual operator is from Belgium and also works in Poland. While little-known, SIM cards can only be ordered through the website, it’s free if you don’t choose a tariff right away. Not sold at retail.

They have very good support, you can ask questions either in Polish or in English, they answer by email literally within 10-30 minutes.

There are 4 tariffs available. Interestingly, you should not choose one tariff and always “sit” on it. It all depends on what fixed amount you top up your account with; this monthly tariff is activated. For example, if you need more Internet, choose the more expensive option; if you don’t, choose the cheaper one.

Tariffs are divided into regular and “unlimited”. Let's start with the usual ones.

STANDARD 19— deposit 19 zlotys into your account, the package is active for 31 days. You receive free calls within the network (including the Play network and other “virtuals” based on Play), calls to other operators and to landline numbers for 19 groschen/min, unlimited SMS 3 GB of internet (+1 GB if you set up automatic payment from the card).

19 zlotys are not “withdrawn” anywhere, but remain on your account (more precisely, they are spent on paid services). If after a month you do not top up your account to activate the tariff further, then calls within the network will remain free, and SMS will cost 9 groschen. The Internet will also continue to work, but at a “snail” speed (32 KB/S).

STANDARD 29- all the same + as much as 15 GB of traffic.

There are also roaming packages within the EU.

Now about unlimited tariffs. They differ from those described above in that the money deposited into the account is immediately debited to pay for the package. And if you need additional funds, for example, for roaming, calls to landlines or an extra data package, you will have to top up again.

In the tariff NO LIMIT 24 absolutely everything is free. A 15 GB traffic package is included (and, traditionally, 1 GB as a gift for activating auto-replenishment). In the tariff NO LIMIT 29 everything is the same, the Internet package is 25 GB.

On all Mobile Vikings plans free access to Facebook and FB Messenger(by default, you don’t need to connect anything).

There are no actual expiration dates for the account. After each replenishment of the number, it becomes active for 365 days.

Since there are no “Viking” SIM cards in retail, you can only “add” (that’s in Polish) an account on the website. And it is convenient to monitor your account status using mobile applications. You can find out the rest of the traffic package using the USSD code *108#, and check your balance by dialing *101#.

Well, that’s all the information about Polish cellular operators. We wish you successful and profitable communication! If something is unclear, ask questions in the comments.

  • — general information about telecom operators in Poland.
  • — about 4 major operators, their tariffs and contracts.

Whatever the purpose of the trip to Poland is - travel, or - Play mobile communications in Poland will be appropriate:

  1. Firstly, because it is more profitable than using a foreign provider, and means paying for roaming.
  2. Secondly, contact information is required to complete many documents, and if the applicant is already in Poland, then it is easier to contact him using a local number.
  3. Thirdly, a local provider is easier to service – pay, contact technical support, have better coverage, etc.

Useful codes

Play numbers (codes) that can always come in handy, regardless of the chosen tariff:

After entering any code, you must press the “Call” button. Specific tariffs may have additional numbers that clarify or control services.

note that telephone code RP “+48”, with which any number begins. However, within the network the code can be omitted. IMSI code of the Play operator is 2600600.

Advantages and disadvantages

When considering the Polish operator Play, you should find out what was not convenient when using it? Perhaps, there are only two main disadvantages:

  • deadlines for paid services that have already been forgotten in the CIS countries;
  • the need to register a number for a specific person.

Not a very big inconvenience, you will agree. Especially if you consider advantages offered by the Polish operator Play:

  • reliable coverage area almost throughout the country;
  • inexpensive services;
  • free calls within the network (for some tariffs);
  • ease of obtaining and renewing services;
  • availability of SIM cards.

Play mobile communications in Poland are necessary for any foreigner who needs communication with relatives and the Internet.

We shared our experience of cooperation with the Play operator, which seemed the most profitable. We tried to cover all the main issues related to tariffs, but if anything remains unclear, leave your questions in the comments - we will try to answer.

Roaming between EU countries has been cancelled. However, it is necessary for Russian residents who come to Poland for tourism or business purposes. It would seem that there is nothing complicated: we activated the roaming service from our regular Russian operator - and everything was in order. In fact, this is the least economical solution. Are there other ways to provide yourself with reliable mobile communications in Poland?

Roaming from the “whales” of Russian cellular communications

Roaming of domestic cellular companies can be connected automatically, or may require manual settings. In both cases, the tourist risks being out of the access zone for some time. It’s good if you have a guide nearby or are met at the airport by Polish relatives, friends, or business partners. Otherwise, you can get confused, left in an unfamiliar country without the Internet and telephone connections.

Overlays with roaming from Russian operators occur mainly because they work in their own country, where they develop own networks and improve the service. Roaming for them is not the main line of business, so they deal with it, at best, in the second place.

In addition, roaming in Poland, which is provided by well-known domestic operators, is quite expensive. As a rule, they use it very limitedly. From the point of view of experienced tourists, this is an option for those who are going to spend a maximum of two to three days in Poland.

"GoodLine" - SIM card for tourists

Unlike your regular operator, the GoodLine tourist SIM card does not work in Russia. Its field of activity is about two hundred foreign countries. Moreover, it specializes in mobile communications for tourists. GoodLine tariff plans are created taking into account all the communication needs that travelers from Russia experience abroad. In the Polish Republic and other EU countries, the GoodLine SIM card provides:

- mobile Internet, the minimum cost of which is $0.01 per MB;

- free calls to Russia on Viber without internet

Editorial incidentally continues to study the issue of profitable mobile communications while traveling. We have already told you about virtual cellular operators, which allow you to save big in some European countries and beyond. This time we will talk about roaming offers from Ukrainian operators, because since the fall a lot has changed in our telecom services market for the better for tourists. Now, when traveling abroad with a Ukrainian SIM card, you can save a lot on communications and even have affordable mobile Internet in roaming while in Europe or Turkey, or simply spend a little less than before.

Roaming Vodafone

The release of the Vodafone brand, or Vodafone in Cyrillic (yes, that’s right, the brand, nothing has changed at the level of the operator’s owners) was marked for Ukrainian mobile users by two cool things: simple and understandable tariffs within the network without hidden fees and footnotes in small text, but with a huge package of Internet traffic, and extremely favorable roaming prices in some countries where Vodafone operates.

Vodafone has several tariff zones. In Europe these are “Roaming like at home” and “Roaming in Poland like at home”. Outside are everyone else, the third zone in fact. To use the services “like at home”, you need to connect to the right operators (the list is on the website near the corresponding country). If you don't know how to do this, contact your operator's contact center ( 111 from Vodafone number).

Since the brand entered the market, the roaming conditions of the “Roaming at home” service have worsened several times, and the most important unpleasant changes affected the volume mobile traffic. Now, for a week, prepaid subscribers can receive from 100 to 600 MB at a price from 120 to 360 hryvnia (until June 11, 2017, a one-time 50% discount is valid, but it does not fundamentally change the picture). At the same time, Vodafone gives a lot free messages and minutes to talk. This policy is due to the fact that roaming voice communication and messages has become an inexpensive service for operators on their get-togethers, but data transfer is still expensive. The operator wants to earn more by “giving subscribers more,” that is, increasing the average bill. In fact, as Vodafone claims, its offer is the best on the market. The only question is how large the audience is interested in the possibility of voice communication. Most likely, these are those who go on a business trip or, due to the specifics of work or personal life, always need to stay in touch.

Vodafone roaming tariffs

This is what the tariffs look like.

If you are reading this article after July 11, then the correct prices are before the discount

But if you are an active smartphone user who does not plan to overpay for unnecessary “voice” and messages, the editors incidentally advises not to activate the “Roaming at home” service, but simply use the mobile Internet. For 35 hryvnia per day in the countries where the service is available, you will receive the same 100 MB. Personal experience shows that, in principle, this amount of traffic is just enough for a day, if you communicate in instant messengers, use navigation and sometimes surf the Internet, and for “heavy” tasks use Wi-Fi.

For contract subscribers there is only one tariff, and it is valid for a month.

At first glance, special tariffs for Poland look more profitable, although for less money the subscriber receives much less services. By the way, the lower cost of roaming in Poland became possible due to the fact that there are many Ukrainians in this country and communications there are, in principle, cheaper than in Western Europe.

Conditions for counter subscribers
Conditions for prepaid subscribers

Countries covered by the “Roaming at home” service (available as a list on the operator’s website). No, these are not all countries where Vodafone operates, but obviously the most popular among Ukrainians.

If you are going on a trip to a country where the “Roaming like at home” tariff does not apply, then the conditions will be completely enslaving. The minimum everything (a minute of conversation within the country or with Ukrainian operators, a megabyte of Internet) will cost 30 hryvnia. By the way, the same table contains the cost of services without “Roaming at home” connection.

When is it profitable to use

When you need to make a lot of calls while roaming.

The Vodafone tariff is made according to the principle “it’s not good for you, God, it’s not good for me.” Voice communications (the cheapest in tariffs) are becoming a thing of the past in the volumes in which the operator offers it. But the now popular mobile Internet is expensive. That is, “Roaming, like at home” is worth connecting if you are traveling for several days and plan to call specifically to Ukrainian Vodafone and MTS. If you are a Vodafone subscriber, in other situations connecting to the service is not beneficial for you. If you need traffic, it is better to consider the tariffs of local operators, other Ukrainian operators, or use data without paying for a service package.

Number: +380 500 400 111 - free from mobile Vodafone in roaming, by the way, revolutionary for our operators.

Roaming MTS Ukraine

MTS Ukraine, despite the rebranding, has retained its tariffs both within the country and abroad. For roaming, they are unprofitable compared to all other offers (including basic ones), and in any case, we advise you to either connect roaming to another operator, or buy a local SIM card.

Roaming lifecell

Lifecell, aka lifecell, aka life:) in the recent past, was a “daughter” of the largest Turkish operator Turkcell. The company rebranded immediately after MTS Ukraine/Vodafone in order to part with its “youth” image, the ghost of the now unpopular oligarch among the owners and to remind of its “civilized” Turkish origin. Along with the new name, lifecell announced some pleasant new roaming conditions. And unpleasant at the same time.

Lifecell roaming tariffs

Vodafone's entry into the Ukrainian market with roaming tariffs forced all operators to reconsider their tariffs and come to simpler and more understandable conditions. lifecell has several tariff zones (see the exact conditions for your country on the operator’s website), but the key difference from Vodafone is the lack of packages that include voice, messages and data transfer. If you still need to make calls and are traveling to Europe, then this offer is not profitable for you. If your choice is data, then Europe in the lifecell network will cost a little less than Vodafone (although not in all countries). In particular, in France, Greece, Hungary and others - 5 UAH less for every 100 MB.

Lifecell offers to use 100 MB of mobile Internet for free while roaming in Turkey, but there is a catch - you can only get it by paying for messages and voice. If 100 MB is not enough, then for the next megabyte you will need to pay an additional 50 kopecks. All conditions.

Lifecell also offers its own BiP messenger, in which Internet traffic in roaming is not charged (but only in 22 countries). There is only one caveat - any other traffic that your smartphone generates is charged if it is connected to the Internet. You can disable all other Internet-dependent applications, updates for maps and other services, delete instant messengers and social networks, but in the end something will still escape into the network. detailed information There is .

For those who plan to make few calls and stay abroad for more than a week, the tariff is perfect. For those who need a lot of Internet, it will be more profitable to buy a local card or Vodafone, if the country is within the coverage area of the “Roaming at Home” service.

When is it profitable to use

If you are flying to Turkey with plans for the Internet and mobile communications. If you plan to use data transfer only, and go to those countries where 100 MB in the operator’s network costs 30 UAH, and these are most European countries and some of our neighbors.

Roaming Kyivstar

Kyivstar is currently considered the most expensive operator in Ukraine. And if the new tariffs for communications within the country make it a stretch to call it such (although they are aimed at increasing income per subscriber, and not at ensuring that a unit of service within the tariff allows the operator to earn more), then in roaming tariffs Kyivstar is not bad .

Kyivstar roaming tariffs

For most popular and not very distant destinations (including Russia, which is still the most popular among our subscribers, operator numbers are a more objective calculation parameter than popular indignation) 100 MB of Internet costs 35 hryvnia. Calls - 2 hryvnia. Even in exotic China (which, by the way, until recently was not available for “voice” in roaming), a minute of voice communication will cost 4 hryvnia. Bulgaria and Latvia will cost much less than Vodafone roaming. Kyivstar has roaming agreements with more than 60 countries around the world. Only we find it difficult to say whether this is a lot or a little. An advertising brochure with Kyivstar roaming tariffs looks like this.

Or you can check the cost of the Internet, calls and messages specifically in the country that interests you. In general, the operator’s website has a convenient visualization of tariff plans for roaming.
