First, let's briefly go through the list of tools that you need to prepare for disassembling the PS3 Fat:

  • Spudger (scapula, one of the ends of which is pointed, and the other is flat).

repair PlayStation 3

Step one

Let's figure it out how to open PS3 Fat for further disassembly. Use the pointed end of a spudger to remove the rubber plug marked with a red square in the picture. There is a screw hidden under the warranty sticker underneath. It needs to be unscrewed.

Of course, if the sticker is removed, the warranty is canceled, but, most likely, it has already ended, so there is nothing to be afraid of.

Push back top panel towards the location of the hard drive and take it off.

Carefully watch the metal bracket so as not to damage anything.

Now remove all the screws shown in the picture and put aside a rectangular curved panel that hides the "insides" of the console.

Step two

Now that we have access to the hardware, we should disable blu-ray drive from the motherboard and continue parsing PS3 Fat.

Gently grasp the wires at the base of the connector with your fingers or tweezers, and then slowly pull them up... Try not to pry the connector out of the board so that you don't have to repair it later.

Lift the drive up to gain access to the ribbon cable that connects it to the "motherboard". To remove the tape, you need gently lift the latch on the connector. Make sure it opens completely.

The BR drive can then be removed from the housing.

Now disconnect the loop, going to the control board, after which you will need to unscrew the screws marked in the picture and remove the bar. Make sure all ribbon cables are disconnected.

Step three

You will clearly see all screws on a metal panel, which, as you already understood, need to be removed. Along the way, you will be able to remove the PS3 Fat control circuit bracket that holds it.

The flat end of the spatula must open the hard drive cover, and then carefully remove it.

Now you can remove the metal cover, and the whole large block of the motherboard assembly remove from the bottom of the case.

Cautions

Disassembling the PS3 for cleaning should be clearly planned. You should have at your disposal: a vacuum cleaner, alcohol and cotton pads.

The vacuum cleaner will help to remove large accumulations of dust, only it no need to bring too close so that important parts do not come off and fly into the trash bag. The power should be close to minimum. Alcohol dries quickly and leaves no unnecessary marks, and cotton wool discs practically do not delaminate, which is very good.

The PlayStation 3 Slim is an updated version of the PS3 video game console from Sony Computer Entertainment, replacing the PlayStation 2. It was released on November 11, 2006. Sony has radically redesigned the set-top box, making it more elegant and attractive. Let's find out what's inside her.

A warning

This article is not a guide to action! You are solely responsible for collecting and disassembling your device.
Many manufacturers do not carry warranty obligations if the device was disassembled by the user. If you do not want to void the warranty for your device, check the warranty conditions in the documentation or with the device manufacturer.

Used tools

The prefix is here, in our hands! The PS3 Slim box, like the device itself, has become thinner.

2.

In addition to the PS3 Slim console, we received accessories:

  • Sixaxis DualShock 3 controller
  • RCA cable ("tulip")
  • USB cable
  • power cord
  • quick start guide and user guide
  • Blu-ray disc
  • one of the video game ratings guides everyone has [censored].

On the left side of the front panel there are two USB port and LED indicators hard disk and Wi-Fi.

On the right side of the bezel is the Blu-ray disc slot, power button, and CD eject button.

The rear panel houses the LAN connector, HDMI port, digital audio output, AV MULTI OUT (RCA or component video) connector and a new power connector.

Previous generation PS3 owners will notice the lack of a power button on the back. Now only the button on the front panel is used for turning on.

Now let's move on to the tastiest. And let's start with the hard drive.
Underneath the plug shown in the picture is a blue Phillips screw. We unscrew this screw.

Then remove the hard drive cover.

The hard drive holder has a special metal handle. Pull this handle and slide the drive out of the bay.

There he is, HDD Toshiba 120 GB in all its glory. We have a feeling that it can be easily replaced with a 500 GB drive ...

Then you need to unscrew 3 anti-vandal screws from the bottom panel of the PS3 slim using a special T8 star screwdriver.

You ask, what is this? Anti-vandal screws? Yes exactly. These screws are made with a pin in the middle so that they cannot be removed with a regular star screwdriver. Special star screwdrivers for anti-vandal screws are also sold, but not as common as conventional ones.

Sony came up with this trick to prevent people like us from disassembling its consoles.

It looks like there are only 3 of these anti-vandal T8 screws in the device, the rest are Phillips.

It might sound a little gloating, but hacking hardware is a fine American tradition.

Peel off the warranty seal.

We pry off and remove the screw caps.

From the bottom panel of the console, you need to unscrew 7 screws using a Phillips screwdriver (circled in the picture).

Interestingly, there was no screw under the rubber flap in the upper right corner of the PS3's bottom panel. Imagine our amazement!

Flip your PS3 console over.

We remove the panel, a little more ...

Ready! We see the MEGA FAN!

This 12 V, 13 A monster rivals the best desktop fans. Sony was not stingy.

Huge fan and antenna of the controller close-up.

This is a brushless motor direct current pretty standard for fans in similar devices... Brushless motors are quieter than traditional motors, but require precise computer control... However, this is not a fan with a magnetic levitation system like Apple uses.

The 3D design Bluetooth and WLAN antennas are attached to the bottom of the case with Phillips screws.

Disconnect the 2 power supply cables.

The lead-in cable is missing a third ground pin, which is surprising for a nearly 250W device.

We remove the power supply.

It is much smaller than the PS3's PS3 power supply and supposedly has improved thermal performance.

Much to the relief of users around the world, the power supply is rated for 100-240 VAC.

Let's take a look at this new power supply.

This is surprisingly compact device... It will be interesting to evaluate its heat dissipation.

This thing produces 18 amps at 12 VAC! Take care of your fingers!

Disconnect the fan.

This is the largest fan that we have come across in devices. household appliances this size.
Sony takes cooling very seriously.

The fan impeller with a diameter of about 95 mm with 17 blades was clearly designed for quiet operation. It is extremely tough and supposedly made of acrylonitrile, butadiene and styrene plastic.

The antenna and power cables are secured with tape strips.

Zealously ripping off this tape.

We pry the connector with a plastic spatula and disconnect the cable.

Unscrew the screw next to it.

Removing the Blu-ray disc drive.
This drive is quite large and takes up a lot of space inside the PS3 case.

We disassembled the drive and found it was apparently a Sony branded part.

Disconnect a few more connectors and unscrew a number of screws.

In its aesthetics, the design of this device is somewhat minimalistic compared to Apple, but still beautiful in its own way.

Several components, including the power connector, are held in place only by engaging the top and bottom panels with screws.

Unscrew a few more screws and you can remove the motherboard!

Unscrew a few screws securing the electromagnetic shields.

Two identical holders in the picture are used to firmly press the processors in the middle to the heatsinks.

Detaching the metal plates to protect against electromagnetic interference from the motherboard

Here's what we got! We took the PlayStation 3 Slim apart.

Counterclockwise, left to right:
power unit, motherboard, hard drive, EMI shield, heat sink, fan, Blu-ray drive, controller and plastic case.

The disassembly is complete, but we still want to analyze the information about the motherboard.

So, motherboard... Sony has made it green to highlight the firm's dedication to the environment.

The first time we see this: after removing the thermal paste from the radiator, stains remained, similar to frosty patterns. The thermal paste may have been applied too much, or it may have been unevenly distributed.

Parts for various purposes are made by various manufacturers. In the next picture we see 2 of 4 NEC / TOKIN 0e108 capacitors.

Dual microcircuits random access memory Elpida 512 Mbit (there are 4 of them on the board).

In the next picture, from left to right:

  • Ethernet Marvell controller (circled in red)
  • Panasonic HDMI controller (orange outlined)
  • We put newest model iPod Shuffle on top of the processor for comparison. The Shuffle is slightly longer, but overall the processor takes up a lot more footprint.

No need to twirl your finger at your temple! I'm not out of my mind yet! It's just that one day I asked myself the following question:

I wonder if I clean every three to four months system unit dust and cat hair, why is my poor Sony PlayStation 3 deprived of such privileges? And what, as a matter of fact, could have accumulated in her body during a year and a half of active operation?

Plagued by a sense of duty and fierce curiosity, I surfed the Internet in search of appropriate recommendations.

Twenty minutes later, having prepared everything I needed, I started to disassemble my Sonya.

What do we need

In general, not much. Phillips screwdriver and star-type hexagon set.

Yes! I completely forgot! To calm your trembling hands and give your body courage and courage, you need to stock up on a bottle of good old Scottish tape,

or, at worst, an "OLD BRAND" flask!

Let's get started

So, our patient today is game console Sony PlayStation 3, 60Gb. Yes, yes, the very same console that reads the notorious discs from Sony PlayStation 2, and which all game collectors in the world are chasing after.

Go …

We tear off the protective sticker (ATTENTION !!! The warranty is lost!) And take out the rubber plug.

Unscrew the bolt with an asterisk.

We pull the plastic cover of the console towards ourselves and remove it.

Unscrew the bolts highlighted in the figure.

Do not forget to remove the metal nut from the cell so that it does not get lost later.

Then, lift the plastic shell, starting to pull it from the side of the power connector. As a result, we get the following picture.

As you can see, the console works fine without the cover.

It's time to remove the hard drive so that it does not interfere with us in the future (this procedure is optional). We pry off the protective cover with something (for example, a toothpick) and remove it.

Unscrew the blue bolt.

We move aside the metal handle and, with the help of it, pull the disk to the right until it stops, and then towards ourselves.

And here he is!

We remove the disk to the side.

It's time to take a break.

How are we going to rest? Right!

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! Mmmmmmmmmmmm! Uuuuuuuuuuuuuuhhh!

We turn the card reader over and disconnect its cable. Here you need to be extremely careful - first we lift the lock clip up, and then we take out the train.

Peel off the paper tape and take out the other end of the train, pulling it up.

We unscrew the bolts securing the power supply, take out the connectors of the power supply, and unscrew the bolt, near which there is an exclamation mark.

We remove the power supply to the side.

Then, unscrew and remove the support of the card reader, along with the black wiring, which is now free, because we unscrewed the bolt under the exclamation mark.

We take out the power supply to the drive.

Lift the drive and carefully disconnect its cable.

We get the following picture.

Now we remove the control board.

Disconnect the grounding of the power connector.

We unscrew all the bolts marked in the figure.

Lift the module carefully.

The back cover is covered in dirt and dust. And this means that we have not tried in vain!

Here's a design.

Turn the board over and unscrew the fan bolts.
