Kraftway Urban KU23 multimedia computer. Kraftway Urban KU23 multimedia computer Craftway system unit

Last year we talked about the previous generation of Kraftway Credo VV23 nettops. With the update of the line, the general concept of the device has not changed: the modern VV25 model is still packaged in a compact but durable metal case, which is also a radiator. The nettop is absolutely silent, although the structure of the cooling system has changed a little - now there are no heat pipes, and the processor, as the only, in fact, hot element of the system, gives off heat to a massive aluminum cylinder, which, in turn, dissipates it on the surface of one of the ribbed side housing covers.

The nettop does not use Atom anymore, but a very good fresh Intel Celeron N2930 with four cores operating at 1.83 GHz, a 2MB L2 cache and integrated Intel HD Graphics. In general, this is not just a CPU, but quite a SoC - there are memory controllers, PCI-E, USB, SATA-II. The motherboard in the Kraftway Credo VV25 is slightly smaller than the standard Mini-ITX format. Nevertheless, it has two SO-DIMM slots, which can accommodate a total of 8 GB of DDR3L-1333 memory. We got just such a configuration. In addition, the manufacturer has abandoned the use of conventional hard drives, and new PCs are equipped with SSDs up to 512 GB. The test unit was equipped with a Foxline FLSSD120X3 120 GB drive.

In general, the configuration is balanced, although it does not involve any significant upgrade. However, the board has two Mini PCI-E slots, into which you can insert, for example, a wireless module. By default, it is not there, which is quite logical from a security point of view, but there is a hole with a plug on the case, into which the antenna can be brought out. As before, the nettop has an optical network adapter... In our configuration, it was a 100 Mbit / s D-Link DEM-211 multimode module. The advantage of such a connection in better protection from hidden eavesdropping and a longer operating range compared to a conventional LAN connection. However, the device also has a built-in Realtek Gigabit Ethernet adapter. The Kraftway Credo VV25 is powered by a small 36 watt external power supply unit.

The set of external interfaces has expanded significantly. As many as six USB 2.0 ports are brought out - four at the back and two at the front. There are also various indicators on the front panel, one USB port 3.0 and the usual ISO 7816 Class A / B / C standard smart card reader, due to which the built-in security system works, which we will talk about below. On the back wall there are 3.5 mm audio jacks for connecting speakers and a microphone, a power jack and two HDMI ports. The presence of at least one D-SUB or DVI video output would have made the nettop even more attractive, but, alas, the manufacturer decided otherwise. The back panel also contains a slot for installing an SFP module with its own activity indicators.

In general, the filling of the Kraftway Credo VV25, in our opinion, is perfectly balanced and perfectly suited for office tasks, which the nettop is designed for. The body of the device is painted black. It is supposed to rest on a table, as hinted at by the rubber feet on the bottom. Although, I think, with a strong desire, it can still be attached to the back of the monitor. The only thing missing is the Kensington lock slot. The process of assembling and disassembling the device cannot be called quite simple, but in this case it is only a plus, because, for example, to initialize or reset the protection system, you still have to climb inside the case. So unnecessary obstacles on the way of a potential attacker will not hurt. Yes, this is how harsh it is, the world of protected systems. Let's tell you more about it.

⇡ Security

When the computer is turned on, the first thing the user will see on the screen is not the usual POST report on the operability of the device components, but a report on the system check by Kaspersky Anti-Virus for UEFI. Yes, UEFI allows you not only to simplify the work with the PC even before the OS is loaded, but also to protect the latter from third-party interference. As a matter of fact, UEFI is not simple here either - the mini-computer uses its own Kraftway Secure Shell (KSS), which is equipped with various modules security, and antivirus is just one of them. Kraftway has its own modules, but third-party developers can also integrate their solutions into UEFI. It is worth emphasizing once again that all this works at the very “lowest” level. The manufacturer claims that bypassing the system is possible only by gaining physical access to the insides of the PC and flashing the BIOS.

In the test instance, in addition to the antivirus, which checks boot areas, the boot loader and the OS kernel, critical system files / folders and application components, as well as the registry, there were other modules. Immediately after scanning for malware, the file system protection module is enabled. It verifies the hash sums of files preselected by the administrator and can work with FS FAT16 / 32, NTFS and EXT 2/3/4. Modules for monitoring logical disks on a storage device and hardware integrity work in a similar way. In addition, the KSS has its own hypervisor, and any actions are logged. If a violation of the integrity of the system was detected at any of the stages of the check, then its loading immediately stops. Thus, the possibilities of unauthorized access to the system are limited as much as possible.

The KSS shell itself also has a number of standard security settings, such as disabling booting from external drives, checking its own integrity, limiting the time to enter the shell, and so on. It also integrates with the Kraftway Security Center security server for remote PC configuration, inventory, advanced authentication settings, access control and many other functions to simplify the work with the fleet of machines without compromising the protection thereof. Finally, the most important and most important part of the shell is the Krypton-Vityaz hardware and software module for trusted loading (APMDZ). It is launched after system checks by antivirus and FS and hardware integrity modules. The tasks of the module include procedures for identification, authentication and authorization of users.

Users are identified by means of a smart card, they are authenticated with their password, and then the user is authorized in accordance with the role model. There are three levels of access. The first is the level of the system administrator, who configures and initializes the APMS. To turn it on, you need to move the switches located on the motherboard to a certain position. Only then can you initialize the security module and create a system administrator profile that has full access and to APMDZ, and to all other system settings. The second and third access levels are, respectively, administrators and ordinary users... Administrators can also have separation of rights for access to certain sections of the settings.

In any case, without a smart card and password registered in advance at Krypton-Vityaz, it will be impossible to change anything. BIOS settings or Kraftway Secure Shell, but also just boot the OS. Naturally, all sorts of standard security measures are applied here - a limited password validity period, a limit on the number of attempts to log in a specific user or all users at once, setting a minimum password length, logging, control over OS loading, and so on. Separately, it should be noted that Kraftway Credo VV25 is one of the few similar solutions that has passed FSTEC certification and is being certified by the FSB of Russia. In addition to the above modules, other extensions are available within the KSS platform for creating secure storages, creating secure network connections, identification and authentication, and so on.

⇡ Performance

In the PCMark 7 Basic benchmark, the Kraftway Credo VV25 scored more than three times more points than its predecessor VV23 - whole. In GeekBench 3, the novelty received points. For an office typewriter, productivity is more than enough, because now it is no longer a thin client, but a good working computer. You can't play games, of course, but there won't be any problems with simple image processing, and even more so with working with documentation. Absolute noiselessness was already mentioned at the very beginning. It should be added that during operation, even under a serious load, the case of the device, or rather its top cover, which is a heatsink for the CPU, did not heat up significantly. In general, progress is evident.

Test

⇡ Conclusion

Kraftway Credo VV25 is a significant step forward for Kraftway in the creation of rugged computers. First, the platform's performance has increased significantly. Now it is not just a terminal station, but a completely modern office computer for working with important documentation. Secondly, the protection system has also undergone updates and improvements. The most interesting thing is, of course, the built-in UEFI-level antivirus and the trusted boot hardware and software module. Both allow you to reliably protect your PC from penetration. Of course, do not forget about OS-level protection tools, and about the distribution of rights when working with documents, and about other security measures. Thirdly, Kraftway Credo VV25 inherited key advantages from past generations - compactness, noiselessness and durability. In general, the creators have turned out to be a completely modern and reliable secure platform. Naturally, it is not the cheapest, in the opinion of a common man in the street, but there is no getting around here - you always have to pay for the safety of critical data. The recommended price for the PC configuration we tested is 23,000 rubles. The cost of a finished PC depends on both the components and the selected security modules.

Management

According to the FAS, Kraftway Corporation PLC (Kraftway), Adaptive Technologies, Express + Service and the Research Institute of New Technologies (NII NT) entered into an anti-competitive agreement to maintain prices at the auctions. In 2016, Kraftway gained control over Adaptive Technologies and Express + Service.

The antimonopoly authority found a minimal decrease in the initial price of government contracts, as well as several cases when, after the end of the auctions, the winner bought computer equipment from the “losing” participant at a lower price and resold it to the customer.

The companies used the same IP and email addresses to bid. General director"Adaptive Technologies" used email address whose mail domain belongs to Kraftway. Kraftway also contributed security for other companies to participate in the bidding.

In total, within the framework of the collusion, the companies held 17 auctions and sold IT solutions to government agencies for 2.3 billion rubles. The FAS reported that three out of four companies pleaded guilty to mitigate responsibility. The department does not name their names.

FAS opened a second cartel case against Kraftway

The FAS explained to TAdviser that in January the second case was initiated against Kraftway Corporation PLC. In the first case, the company is suspected of participating in an anti-competitive agreement at an electronic auction for the supply of equipment for GAS Vybory. In the second case, we are talking about participation in an agreement that could lead to an increase, decrease or maintenance of prices at the auction, a representative of the antimonopoly service told TAdviser.

The Kraftway representative told TAdviser that he would comment on the situation later.

Imagine the following picture: we take a laptop on a modern mobile platform and take turns cutting off the display, keyboard and battery from it. The rest of the filling is placed in a compact body. As a result, we get a mini-PC, which, despite its small size, has all the capabilities of its older brothers. And this computer is called Kraftway Urban KU23.

The outside reflects the inside

The external data of Urban KU23 are simply wonderful: a neat black box with dimensions slightly larger than an external DVD drive. It is not a shame to put such a system unit in the living room. The surface of the case is glossy, it should be rearranged by holding on to the side inserts, otherwise you won't get stained. On the front side there are: a power button, a card reader, a USB port, a disc loading hole and an eject button.

Urban is built on a mobile platform Intel Centrino... Processor used Core 2 Duo T5600 operates at a frequency of 1.83 GHz, RAM - 2 GB, which is the standard by today's standards. The built-in graphics core completes the picture Intel GMA 950, the possibilities of which are clearly not enough for modern games, but for the installed Windows Vista Home Premium enough with the head.

The volume of the built-in hard disk is 120 GB. For an impressive collection of films and music, this is not enough, for such a case you can attach to the KU23 external hard drive from Western digital or Seagate... Both manufacturers have black models - they will perfectly complement each other.

An operating system with a set of drivers and software is initially installed on the computer. After turning on the PC, the user has to wait 15-20 minutes until the initialization process takes place, and you can already start working. In addition to the necessary drives, adapters and cables, the Urban KU23 comes with detailed instructions... It explains simply and easily how to manage most of the OS functions.

***

Of course, we can't call Urban KU23 a gaming platform. However, it will play hits from two, three years ago and the most popular things like World of warcraft... However, the computer fulfills its main role - the role of a compact media center - 100%.

Kraftway Urban KU23 is a stylish and multifunctional PC, as well as a clear example of the successful implementation of an interesting idea.
