The new flagship of Nokia. The secret of the Nokia flagship. Why are the Finns hiding a new smartphone? What can you get hold of

What will happen if the revival of the brand with history is taken sensibly and with soul? There will be a new, this time Finnish-Chinese Nokia, safely warmed up under the wing of HMD Global. To unite people, and at the same time skillfully play on nostalgia, Nokia of a new style began in 2017. The results are impressive: the Finns have sold millions of smartphones, catching up with the strong ones, OnePlus and. Let's see if the renaissance remains as successful and what to expect from transnational gadgets in 2019.

Nokia connoisseurs in 2019 are waiting for more than eight updated lines of new models. New smartphones have not one, but two digits in the name, the latest generation has received the Plus prefix.

Compared to last year's variants, in some lines, instead of one, there were as many as three models, for example, Nokia 3 expanded to Nokia 3.1 and Nokia 3.1 Plus. The cost of smartphones has decreased, but there is no significant difference in price between the models in the lines.

Nokia 1

According to the manufacturers themselves, “some things are timeless”, referring to the neat Nokia 1 smartphone with a detachable back cover... The rubberized cover acts as a full-fledged bumper, protecting the phone in case of a fall. In addition, the manufacturer gives you the opportunity to choose the color you want.

Despite the outdated camera and small screen diagonal by the standards of 2019, the phone runs on a 1.1 GHz MediaTek MT6737M quad-core processor. Optionally, the user can purchase a model with one or two SIM slots, add 8 GB of built-in microSD memory up to 128 GB.

The neat and ergonomic design makes the model recognizable, allows the phone to lie easily and be fixed in the palm of your hand.

Of the advantages, users point out:

  • small size (which is now a rarity for the market of modern smartphones);
  • the latest firmware;
  • the absence of useless and adware applications in the shell;
  • sensitive radio module;
  • removable (replaceable) battery;
  • round-the-clock technical support from the manufacturer.

The main disadvantages of Nokia 1 are fast battery drain with active use of applications and weak camera.

Nokia 1 specifications:

  • processor: 4-core MediaTek MT6737M, 1100 MHz
  • support for two SIM-cards of "nano" format

Nokia 2 and Nokia 2.1

A shock-resistant and lightweight aluminum frame, high-quality 8MP and 5MP rear and front cameras, 8GB of default memory expandable to 128GB and a capacious 4000mAh battery - these are the features that Nokia 2 and Nokia 2.1 have in common. However, there are still differences between the models.

Nokia 2 has protective glass Gorilla Glass, whereas Nokia 2.1 has a standard display. In terms of processor performance, the Nokia 2.1 with the Snapdragon 425 processor wins. The screen sizes of the Nokia 2.1 and Nokia 2 are 5.5 and 5 inches, respectively.

Both models work uninterruptedly for 48 hours with active use. Whether traveling, playing online games or streaming YouTube videos all day long - Nokia's battery of two is enough for any activity. Users note the high-quality color rendition of the screen of both models and a good equalizer, as well as a great time autonomous work... Of the shortcomings, only 1 GB of RAM can be noted, but for this price category this is the standard volume.

Nokia 3, Nokia 3.1 and Nokia 3.1 Plus

The Nokia 3 line has expanded to 3 models - 3, 3.1 and 3.1 Plus. Starting with 3 and ending with 3.1 Plus, there are strong changes in the design of the case: at the very latest model the thinnest frame. The first two models have displays equipped with Gorilla Glass. The diagonal of the displays changed towards widescreen resolution - from 5 to 5.2 and 6 inches. The processors have also changed: from MediaTek MT6737 1.3 GHz to MediaTek MT6750 1.5 GHz and MediaTek Helio P22 2 GHz - and this is a jump from modest 4 to much more weighty 8 cores. The newer 3.1 Plus outperforms the previous two "triplets" both in characteristics and in battery capacity - it is here at 3500 mAh.

All three smartphones in the series have a diamond-coated aluminum body that protects the frame from deformation and scratches. The line is also equipped with an NFC contactless payment module. Among the benefits, users noted high quality assembly, typical for all lines of the company, ergonomic design, wide resolution and "juicy" image.

Nokia 5, Nokia 5.1 and Nokia 5.1 Plus

The trio of smartphones was also released under the number 5. There was a gap of almost a year between the release of 5 and 5.1, while between the 5.1 and 5.1 Plus there were only a few months.

The diagonal of the displays changed from 5.2 and 5.5 to 5.86 inches. Only the first two models are equipped with Gorilla Glass, 5.1 Plus will have to use additional protection... Also, when developing the display in 5.1 Plus, curved glass technology was used, which gave the model a more presentable look. Processors have also evolved: from Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 1.4 GHz to MediaTek Helio P18 and MediaTek Helio P60 with the same frequency of 2 GHz. The fingerprint sensor has moved from the front to the back (in 5.1 and 5.1 Plus). The difference in battery capacity is insignificant - from 3000 to 3060 mAh. Large quantity sensors (magnetometer, compass) were built into the 5 and 5.1 Plus.

Despite the leap in software and operational efficiency, this line lacks the NFC function provided in the older version 3. Also, there is no possibility of expansion internal memory using microSD.

Nokia 6, Nokia 6.1 and Nokia 6.1 Plus

Monolithic aluminum body, shock-resistant screen with Gorilla Glass, strict lines, high-resolution display, 5.5-inch diagonal, 4 GB of RAM, 16 and 8 MP rear and front cameras - this is where the similarities between the models in one line end.

The Nokia 6 is powered by a 1.2GHz Snapdragon 430 processor, and the Nokia 6.1 is powered by a 2.2GHz Snapdragon 630. The first and second models have a memory card slot adjacent to the SIM. Also 6.1 comes not only in black, but also silver color... The fingerprint sensor in the 6-ke is located in the front at the bottom of the screen, and in 6.1 - behind the camera. NFC is supported in the 6.1 model, as is the fast charge function - 50% charge in just half an hour. In terms of read-only memory, both models come with a built-in capacity of 32 GB, but the 6.1 model with 64 GB can be purchased.

Users speak positively about this series, noting a widescreen display with a high-quality picture and an oleophobic coating, a capacious battery, high build quality and reliability of the case, an instant response of the fingerprint sensor and the presence of contactless payment support in the later model.

As for the new Nokia 6.1 Plus smartphone, here (at the time of this writing in January 2019) there are characteristics, but few reviews: it is not presented in Russia, although those who wish can purchase it in we will not say which Asian country. The shortcomings noted by them could be attributed to the lack of a global offer of the model - we just have to wait. Characteristics and current reasonable prices Nokia 6.1 Plus - below.

Nokia 7.1 and Nokia 7 Plus

The penultimate and one of the newest lines combines the current trends of the smartphone market: a bezel-less screen, Gorilla Glass, a rear fingerprint sensor, fast charging.

The 7 Plus is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 processor (4 cores at 2.2 GHz and 4 cores at 1.8 GHz), while the 7.1 is powered by the newer Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 (8 cores at 1.8 GHz). Differences are also felt in the internal memory: if in the 7 Plus it was 64 GB of internal memory and 4 GB of RAM, then in 7.1 there is only 32 GB of internal memory and 3 of RAM. The differences also touched upon the front cameras: in the 7 Plus, the front camera has a resolution of 14.4 megapixels, and in 7.1 - only 8. The battery capacity of 3800 mAh in the 7 Plus has decreased to 3060 mAh in 7.1. However, in a later model, the wishes of users regarding the screen diagonal were taken into account - from 6 inches it decreased to 5.86, due to which it became more convenient to hold the smartphone in the palm of your hand. The frame has also changed - Nokia 7.1 belongs to the bezel-less class. According to customer reviews, the line turned out to be successful - smartphones are equipped with good quality cameras, NFC system and stylish design.

Nokia 8 and Nokia 8.1

The latest series from Nokia has delighted users with high performance, high quality camera, waterproof, pure-display, face unlock, fast charging, the presence of NFC, 64 GB of built-in and 4 GB of RAM, metal frame and capacious batteries. Alas, despite the essentially upper stage of "evolution" Nokia smartphones, it is difficult to call both flagship models - rather strong middlings. However, the prices for them also do not bite so much.

The earlier eighth model runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor (4 cores at 2.5 GHz and another 4 at 1.8 GHz), and 8.1 on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 (2.2 GHz on two cores and 1.7 on the six remaining energy efficient ones). In model 8, the battery capacity is 3090 mAh, while in 8.1 - 3500 mAh. In the later 8.1, the bezel disappeared, the diagonal changed from 5.3 inches to 6.18.

Users note the high speed of smartphones in the line due to powerful processors, high quality sound speakers, rich wide-format camera shots, a solid body and perfect build quality. Comparing the characteristics, we can note the progress in the power of all systems of the smartphone.

Outcomes

The pace of HDM Global instills confidence that if smartphones with the Nokia nameplate do not return to their former glory of the quality standard, they will certainly not get lost in the market. The entry-level and mid-budget models already have their own look, quality materials and a loyal fanbase that will help them withstand the onslaught of Chinese phones and their A-class brethren. With flagships, the story is a little sadder, but the G8 without the top chipset, most likely, will not become the brand's "main" smartphone this year, so we are waiting for the mysterious Nokia 9.

Nokia today presented its flagship - model Nokia 8. And everything seems to be as it should: display high resolution, the flagship processor, the design is pleasant and uncluttered. But all the same, no impressions. There is no zest, but the price is normal. Let's figure out what's what.

What is the current Nokia and its flagship

First of all, you need to understand how to relate to Nokia smartphones. From that very brand, only one name remained. The Chinese office HMD is engaged in the development and production of devices. I would put the current Nokia on a par with Meizu, Xiaomi, OnePlus - that is, it is Chinese, but decent. Its destiny is not super-tech smartphones of the type, but the so-called budget flagships. Nokia 8 is just that.

The flagship of the first echelon is not just top-end characteristics, but also features and perception. When you buy the same S8, you pay for the “infinite” screen and only then for everything else. One year later , however, a telephone for fifty thousand rubles starts to work like a piece ... In short, it works very badly, but this is a completely different story, which our editor-in-chief. Yes, and not for everyone the actual story.

And the Nokia 8 is just a bunch of top specs. And that's not a bad thing - just take it for granted. Of the features it only has a design, but it does not cause a wow effect either. Nice, original, but not parsik. There is also no full-fledged moisture protection - only splash protection according to the IP54 standard.

What can you get hold of

Perhaps the camera will become the killer-feature of the device. It uses a dual camera that combines two 13-megapixel modules. One of them is black and white, the other is color. The front is also a 13-megapixel camera. And they are all under the Zeiss brand.

The smartphone has an "awesome" feature associated with the camera. On YouTube and Facebook, you can broadcast from the main and front cameras at the same time. The screen is divided into two parts: on one - what is happening around, on the other - you. Somewhere I saw it ... Oh yes, in ours!

Another feature is called Nokia OZO Audio - it writes surround sound when shooting video.

Why do I think you can expect something from the camera? Yes, simply because Nokia has not yet had flagships, and we do not know whether it knows how to make great cameras or not. It is unlikely that it will compete with Samsung and Apple, but it is quite possible to gore the same Xiaomi.

The rest is like everyone else

Qualcomm's Snapdragon 835 is cool: a powerful chipset with a headroom. If Nokia does not screw up the software, then the phone will be safe to use for two years. 4 GB of RAM will also be enough for the near future.

The device has a 5.3-inch screen - small by today's standards, but the navigation buttons are placed on the selections and do not eat up space. By the way, there is also a fingerprint scanner - it's good that they didn't put it back. The display resolution is Quad HD (2560 x 1440). Its maximum brightness is 700 nits, so it shouldn't be a problem under the sun.

Out of the box, the smartphone will run on Android 7.1.1 Nougat, the developers promise quick update up to the eighth version. The battery capacity is again the usual 3,090 mAh.

It is already known that the smartphone will be officially sold in Russia. It is even known at what price - 39,990 rubles. There will be four colors to choose from: copper, steel and two blue (glossy and matte). The device would be the very thing to compete with, only it was initially cheaper, and now it can be bought at all for 30-32 thousand. Well, maybe someone will follow the name.

For a long time, there were rumors on the network about a new flagship smartphone from Nokia. Models TA-1004, TA-1052 and TA-1012 have been seen in benchmarks, then have been certified by various agencies. This information confirmed the possibility of an imminent appearance of a new phone from the Finnish company.

In May 2017, the FrAndroid resource first showed a photo showing the Nokia 9 smartphone, albeit still under the veil of a special protective cover hiding appearance... A month later, a short video review appeared on the TechDroider youtube channel, where, based on all previous images, a comprehensive render of the flagship was shown. Then the fresh news had to wait all summer, until mid-September. Then new renders appeared on the social network Baidu, which allegedly represented the Nokia 9.

On the this moment that's all the news about the upcoming flagship from HMD Global. But, even having collected such grains, one can already imagine what it will be like new smartphone, and make a small overview of it.

Appearance

Based on the images shown, the phone will be equipped with AMOLED screen... Its size can range from 5.3 (like its predecessor - Nokia 8) to 5.5 inches, and the resolution is 2560 * 1440. The hardened Gorilla Glass 5 will protect the screen from cracks and cuts. The glass front and back panels will have smooth curves. The smartphone will have a fingerprint scanner, which will be located on the back exactly under dual camera Zeiss at 20 megapixels or 13 megapixels. It is worth telling about it separately.

One of the sensors will be color, the other will be monochrome. The owner of the smartphone will be able to choose which one to use. There will be a laser autofocus under the camera along with an LED flash. For selfie lovers, the device will offer a 13-megapixel front-facing module. The phone will allow you to shoot simultaneously on both cameras - the main one and the front one. The flagship may be equipped with an iris scanner, but this information is not completely reliable.

The USB connector and multimedia speaker will be located at the bottom of the case. The headphone jack will be located at the top, possibly there will also be a fingerprint scanner. In general, the body of Nokia 9 will be protected from moisture and dust, according to the IP68 standard. This means that the insides of the phone are completely protected from contact with dust, and it can withstand being at a depth of more than one meter for 30 minutes.

In general, Nokia uses the improved design of today's smartphones of its production - a screen with curved edges and thin bezels.

Interior fittings

The "heart" of the smartphone will be an eight-core Snapdragon processor 835. However, analysts say that it is possible to install new platform Snapdragon 845. As for the amount of RAM, the data varies. Initially, it was thought that the phone will receive 4 GB. Then there was information about 6 GB, and some sources claim that there will also be a modification with 8 GB on sale. The amount of internal memory is also controversial - 64 or 128 GB.

The power source for the Nokia 9 will be a 3500 or 3800 mAh battery, equipped with support fast charging QuickCharge 4. The phone will be equipped with OZO Audio technology, which will record sound in 360 °, and will also be able to work with two SIM-cards. The flagship will be based on Android 8.0.

The technical specifications are largely similar to its predecessor, Nokia 8, but they also have a number of differences, for example, a new version operating system, increased by 2 GB of RAM, the possible presence of 128 GB of internal memory and wireless charging.

Date of appearance on the market

The exact date of the release of the new Finnish flagship in Russia and the world is still unknown. It was supposed to be announced along with the Nokia 8 in London or even earlier, but this did not happen. Rumors began to spread that the company had abandoned the creation of Nokia 9. But then it was reported that the presentation could take place in October 2017 or even in February 2018. However, these data also have no official confirmation. Therefore, we can only guess when the Nokia 9 will be released.

Price

The price of the phone is more predictable. In Europe, it is expected to cost 750 euros. In the UK, a price tag of 634 pounds sterling is expected per unit. In the United States, a model can cost around $ 699. If a model with 128 GB of internal memory appears on the market, then the price will undoubtedly rise.

Opinions

Future buyers are eagerly awaiting the latest news about Nokia 9. Reviews on numerous thematic sites confirm this. The only thing that scares you off buying a new flagship is its estimated cost - 750 euros. Only wealthy buyers will be able to purchase a smartphone.

Fingers curl: 5.7-inch bezel-less display in a body that's smaller than the 5.3-inch Nokia. More expensive in appearance and compact body design. Better sound in the headphones and out of the speaker. Better rear cameras, better autonomy. And there is IP68 water resistance, and not a parody of it, like in Nokia (ashamed to say, IP54, splash proof!).

The problem is that the G6 is a brake. I never would have thought that last year's "coolest of the cool" Snapdragon 821 is a slow processor, but alternatively gifted programmers at LG made such a shell on top of Android, with which the smartphone "hiccups" under load, like your Samsung for 15 thousand rubles or iPhone 5S on iOS 11. Nokia 8 versus G6 - a supersonic fighter! And the quality of sound recording on microphones in Nokia is higher than in LG. And operating system updates happen more often, and the system itself is not polluted by excesses. And Wi-Fi works faster and catches networks at a greater distance from them.

And yet, if it were not "lag" in the LG G6 about and no one would say that it is better in all of Nokia, and not to be mistaken.

conclusions

Nokia 8 is very difficult to assess objectively while you have its nameplate in front of your eyes. It is to compare the faces of Lindsay Lohan / Mickey Rourke before and now. To all this, you can answer “and you yourself try to go through so many difficulties that they have overcome!”, But this will not improve your mood. Everyone knows perfectly well what difficulties Nokia has gone through, but here we have its best mobile phone, and it is not something that does not reach the Samsung iPhones, but also Chinese creations in some way inferior. Is this the Nokia, the revival of which the Bolsheviks have been talking about for so long?

But it's worth covering up the famous logo - and, know criminality, not a bad smartphone! If ASUS, Meizu or ZTE were written on it, it would be praised by everyone, and they would do the right thing. Because almost all criticism boils down to "Nokia's flagship must be better, on par with the iPhone 7 and Galaxy S8 at least!"

But Nokia 8 is what it is. "With a soul", but sloppy execution. With a cool screen, but strange color reproduction. With a small diagonal IPS-matrix in a very long and slim body. Good cameras controlled by "brainless" automation. And an abnormal battery charge even without load.

For the first (and she is the first, let's be frank) attempts to create flagship smartphone from scratch - not bad. Because until 2016, the flagships of Huawei, if you remember, were also a pleasure "very for an amateur", but now, you see, they have worked on the mistakes, and breathe in the back of Samsung.

If Nokia 8 drops in price to 30-32 thousand rubles - you can take in the role as much as possible fast smartphone with trendy and funny modifications in the cameras. But for 40 thousand here and now, "Chinese premium" and cheaper flagships win in comparison with Nokia in almost all disciplines, except for processor performance. We hope that HMD Global will draw conclusions, work on the bugs, and a real Connecting people awaits us by the release of the new flagship Nokia 9.

Positioning

All models with the 900 index are Nokia's flagships, however, for those who do not believe in this, there is even a sticker on the device's screen, which indicates that this is a real flagship.

In the past few years, Nokia understands that they cannot position their flagships at the same level as other companies, therefore, at the beginning of sales, the starting price of these devices is 24,990 rubles against the standard 29,990 rubles. At first glance, this is an indisputable advantage, since the device comes out cheaper. But on the other hand, I do not know of a single company in the world that simply misses its profit, if it can sell a product at a higher price - a markdown by Windows Phone associated with the low demand for such devices. Moreover, it is curious that starting from the 900 model, each subsequent flagship is sold in approximately comparable volumes, no sales growth is observed. We can say that there is a constant and very small audience of those who buy such devices. From the point of view of those who want to get a device not at the start of sales, the Windows Phone platform offers good discounts- during the year the price drops faster than that of other manufacturers, so the device that cost 24,990 rubles will cost 14,990 rubles in large federal stores. The unpopularity of the platform and its low prevalence can become an alarming factor for a mass buyer, but someone, on the contrary, likes it - to stand out from the crowd, to be different from everyone else, to be special.

The company's current flagship is a redesigned version of the Lumia 1520, with a smaller screen but the same camera and similar specs. It is impossible to compare these devices head-on, but in the world of Windows Phone everything is so mixed up that most buyers of devices on this platform choose, first of all, not so much a specific phone as the platform itself. And so the only serious competitor within the platform for the Lumia 930 is the Lumia 1520.

Nokia Lumia 1520

For a long time, I've been trying to come up with a formula for who buys flagships on Windows Phone. There are almost no people in my environment who use similar devices minus Microsoft employees. Of my acquaintances, there is only one girl, in my life I meet more girls who choose devices based on their appearance. Bright body, nice design - these are the most strengths Lumia. I think that this emotional choice is the main one when buying a Lumia. There is also a small stratum of those who buy consciously best smartphone on Windows Phone, they are usually men.

It was interesting to see how they used the previous flagship Lumia, model 925. To do this, I looked at the statistics of the Big Three operators, it was interesting to know how long the device was in the same hands (the same SIM card), what it was changed to, if such the change took place during this year. The figures are very interesting, for example, the average lifespan of a device with one SIM-card was 9.5 months. For flagships of other companies, this number is much higher, it is not even possible to estimate it on a yearly basis, since the bulk of the devices have not changed owners. That is, the abandonment of the Lumia 925 occurred for most users 9 months after purchase. This is definitely not a breakdown or something like that, but apparently a deliberate change. But another thing is even sadder - in 89% of the transition occurred to the phones of others operating systems... There is a curious moment - in Moscow, the majority of former Lumia users chose the iPhone (74%), and in St. Petersburg - Android (78%). Most regions also preferred Android, although the situation varied from city to city.

For myself, I explain this data as follows - those who want to form their opinion about the platform, about how convenient it is in life, buy flagships from Nokia. That is, people who want to try it in practice. The number of subsequent failures speaks in favor of the fact that something did not suit them and they switched to other systems (most likely, they returned to them). Therefore, the Lumia 930 should be considered in this aspect as well.

It should be clearly understood that Nokia's flagships have never been in great demand and popularity, among all devices of this class they have the lowest sales, including in Russia. These are quite rare phones that are difficult to find in people's hands. This factor should also be taken into account.

Design, dimensions, controls

The Lumia's strongest feature is its design, although it remains almost unchanged for a long time, but the bright body panels, decent materials - all this attracts attention. Nokia engineers have created a good platform, which has been wandering almost unchanged from one device to another for four years. The fact that Lumia is not widespread in the world makes this design not too hackneyed.

Traditionally, various bright body colors are available - orange, white, black, steel.

The metal frame of the case is always silver, in black it is painted over - this phone is completely black. In all other variants, the bezel is black, the only difference is rear end housing. It has a matte plastic, I chose an orange device, it is bright and suits the summer mood well. The matte finish quickly begins to rub off and shine, fine dirt also appears in the pockets, it leaves marks on the case. They are easy to erase - other devices with such plastic behaved similarly, there is nothing nightmarish or critical in this, a peculiarity of such a coating.

The phone measures 137x71x9.8 mm and weighs 167 grams. This model belongs to those devices that must be supported in hands before buying. The opinion of people varies greatly - for some, the body is comfortable in the hand, while others say that the frame cuts into the hand. There is a slight discomfort in my big hand, but it cannot be said that it is critical. Everything is individual here.

I like that the protective glass of the screen is rounded to the edges, that is, there are no bezels here. Some, on the contrary, want a protruding frame so that they can put the phone face down on the table without touching the surface. In this device, everything is exactly the opposite, it will glide perfectly on any surface, you need to put it on your back.

On the right side there is a volume rocker, an on / off button, and a camera button, for which a special thank you to Nokia. The microUSB connector is located on the bottom end, but on the top there is a 3.5 mm headset output (it is not included in the bundle, they also save on this), as well as a SIM card slot.

Once again, we changed the way the SIM card slot works, you can pry it off with your finger, there is no need to look for a needle or paper clip. Nano SIM-card tray, which looks strange Why was copying in this iPhone, I absolutely do not understand - most Lumia buyers are switching to this device clearly not from the iPhone, but from the Lumia to it. Unlike the 1520, where the SIM tray would tell the phone this when opened, nothing like that happens in the Lumia 930. If you change the cards or just take out your own and then put it back in, the phone will not find the network until it reboots. It just won't work. To be honest, I did not expect this from the device and spent several hours outside the network, the device did not pick up the SIM-card after re-installation. This is a petty saving on the sensor, and with the help of software it can be bypassed, but then you need to add such a function - the manufacturer did not do this. For most people, this will not be a problem, after all, no one changes SIM-cards all the time - so, a touch to the portrait of the device.

The front panel has front-camera, it can be used for video calls, there is a proximity sensor, illumination. Under the screen there are three traditional touch keys.

Display

Nokia is following the general trend - the flagships of 2014 have 5-inch screens with FullHD-resolution, this one is no exception. The number of dots per inch is 441, the screen itself is made using OLED technology, a polarizing layer has been added to it for better behavior in the sun (ClearBlack). The aspect ratio is 16: 9, which is also typical.

The device has a proximity sensor as well as a light sensor. Unfortunately, the brightness can only be adjusted in three positions (low, medium and high). Unlike all other smartphones and systems, this is a Windows Phone limitation.

In my opinion, the screen is not bad, although in a number of parameters it is inferior to the same Galaxy S5 (pictured at the top of the frame), quite on par with the Sony Z2. Information remains readable in the sun.

Compared to Samsung Galaxy S5

Sun screen

The first buyers of Lumia 930 noticed that in the menu grey colour may have a purple tint. You can consider it only if you look specifically - you should not inflate an elephant out of a fly. This is incorrect screen calibration and can be corrected by yourself by installing Nokia software Display and raising the green level. It cannot be said that this is a hardware problem.

In general, evaluating the screen, I want to say that it looks good both against the background of competitors, and just in isolation from them. You simply won't notice any drawbacks when using the device. Absence additional modes improvement of the picture when viewing photos and videos, someone will even write down in the pluses of this matrix.

Battery

The battery with a capacity of 2420 mAh (BV-5QW), it is capable, according to the manufacturer, to provide up to 21.7 hours of talk time in 2G, 17.9 hours in 3G, and standby time up to 18 days. The maximum time for playing music - up to 75 hours, video - up to 9 hours, on the network via 3G - up to 9 hours, via Wi-Fi - up to 9 hours.

The declared characteristics are quite real, and, moreover, for those who hardly use data transmission, but only call, this device will be good. For example, three days of work with mail synchronization (a little mail every hour), with minimal use of other functions - 15 minutes of conversations, a dozen SMS are quite achievable.

With very active use, the device will work for only one day, from morning to evening. If you need a device for calls and SMS, then this model will be quite good in terms of battery life, but not in terms of cost. Full charging time of the battery is about 2 hours (using standard charging from the kit). It is curious that the majority of Lumia have similar characteristics in terms of operating time, apparently, the company deliberately achieve such results.

HD video playback time is about 7.5 hours, not so short, but clearly less than that of other flagships (Galaxy S5 plays the same file for about 10.5 hours with similar settings).

The device has a built-in wireless charger standard Qi, with its help the phone will need to charge much longer. The first buyers of the Lumia 930 traditionally received such chargers in the kit.

Memory, memory cards, hardware platform and performance

The amount of built-in memory is 32 GB, of which about 20 GB is free for the user (4.5 GB is occupied system applications and pre-installed content), but in total it is shown as an available capacity of 24.15 GB. The device does not have any memory cards, which can be considered a serious drawback.

As a mockery, the menu shows that you can select a location to store photos and other data, but these items are inactive.

The iPhone also has a similar limitation, but you can choose phones with different memory sizes, but there is only one. However, for most consumers, this is enough for the eyes. This will become a limitation for those who take a lot of photographs, shoot videos. The lack of memory cards in a phone with a high-resolution camera is a serious drawback. It is possible that Nokia abandoned memory cards due to the fact that large cards have problems in the Lumia 1520 (failure when recording video to 64 and 128 GB cards). This is a problem on Windows Phone that Nokia couldn't solve.

IN cloud service OneDrive the user gets the standard 7 GB of space, no exceptions were made for the buyers of the flagship. For example, in DropBox, Galaxy S5 customers get 50GB of storage for 2 years, which looks a lot more interesting.

The amount of RAM is 2 GB, which is quite enough for any applications and games that exist for Windows Phone today. According to this parameter, the Lumia 930 can be called the best device in the family.

Inside there is a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chipset, a quad-core processor has a frequency of up to 2.2 GHz per core. Not the latest, but not outdated chipset either. Considering that performance standard applications at a good level, we can assume that this chipset will be enough for everything. I have no complaints about how this device works - everything is at a good level, there are no brakes.

Lovers of synthetic tests and virtual parrots can look at the results for this model below.

For comparison, here are the results of the Lumia 630, built on the Snapdragon 400.

Communication capabilities

The standard set of protocols - Wi-Fi 802.11 b / g / n / ac, NFC, USB 2.0, Bluetooth 4.0 (no LE support) - a full set of standard profiles, WCDMA - 900/2100 MHz. As you can see, the device cannot boast of anything special or unusual.

Camera

This model uses the same camera module as the Lumia 1520. We conducted comparative test different smartphones, this device also participated in it, the result was quite predictable.

In principle, it makes no sense to make a big comparison of the quality of photos for the Lumia 930, compared with the Galaxy S5, below you can see the photos. The main and typical disease for Lumia 930, as well as for 1520, is white balance, it often misses the mark, is set incorrectly. Subjectively, it shoots a little worse than other flagships, but let me remind you that this difference is so imperceptible that in most cases you will not pay attention to it. Another thing is that there are no many popular shooting modes, the most interesting of which is HDR. This device cannot boast of it. The digital zoom is also very small, it is only 2x.

Other characteristics of the camera are as follows:

  • Sensor 1 / 2.5 inches;
  • Focal length 26 mm;
  • f / 2.4;
  • LED flash up to 3 meters;
  • Macro from 10 centimeters;
  • ISO 100, 200, 400, 800, 1600, 3200, 4000.

You can save pictures in JPEG format (5 megapixels, 5 and 16 megapixels), as well as RAW format(DNG 16 megapixels and JPEG 5 megapixels). Very often the presence of the DNG format is presented as an advantage, as if it allows you to get very good image quality. I am afraid this is not the case, and for many reasons. Firstly, you cannot process these pictures on the phone itself, you simply will not see them in the folders. You will need to transfer them to a computer and already there conjure with them. Using the same OneDrive for this will not work, for some reason it does not see DNG files. Therefore, only with a USB cable. The time spent on tinkering with a DNG image is disproportionate to the final result - after all, this is a phone, and the quality is appropriate. For example, on the Galaxy S5, where the camera produces the same 16 megapixels, the rejection of RAW is deliberate, people do not want to load unnecessary functionality that is not in demand. The built-in DNG processing algorithm produces a good picture in lower resolutions, you are unlikely to get it in better quality working with his hands on a pc.

All Nokia proprietary utilities for working with images have been added to the phone - you take pictures in Nokia Camera, which has a familiar interface for other models.

There are also “revived photos”, when several pictures are taken and an animated picture is assembled from them, panorama mode, change of focus (foreground and background), Nokia Stories (a kind of photo diary creation option). The built-in Creative Studio editor is quite advanced, but nothing that would be worth a separate description.

And here's a comparison with the Galaxy S5.

Nokia Lumia 930

Video recording is supported in FullHD format, the frequency is 30 frames per second. Quite simple, no additional opportunities not provided.

Software - Windows Phone 8.1

This is the second after Lumia 630 device on Windows Phone 8.1. Unfortunately, the set of changes compared to the 8th is rather insignificant, they are cosmetic in nature and globally do not affect the perception of the platform in any way. This is work on mistakes and shortcomings, which, moreover, is done poorly. For example, the drop-down curtain cannot be closed, as in Android, by tapping anywhere. It is imperative to pull it by the disclosure icon - this is terribly inconvenient. Nowhere else but Windows Phone is this implemented so crookedly. System innovations are described in detail in Windows overview Phone 8.1, I see no reason to repeat myself - everything is standard here.

This is also the second device with the Nokia Cyan package, which has a number of features that differ from the standard version of WP 8.1, as a rule, these are preinstalled programs from Nokia, a redesigned gallery and the like. They do not affect the perception of the device and its convenience. Considering that on Android there are thousands of such changes for each manufacturer, it is interesting to look at dozens from Nokia. The scale is visible to the naked eye.

In terms of multimedia, this device has a good music player, it supports the following formats - MP4, AAC, MP3, M4A, WMA, 3G2, AMR, 3GP, ASF. It's a pity, but there is no talk of full support for all lossless formats, although it is implemented in other systems. The built-in FM radio is traditional, there are no special features in it.

For video, the number of supported formats is also small - 3G2, 3GP, MP4, WMV, AVI, M4V, MOV. For some, this will be enough, but out of the box I would like to see a larger number.

Impressions

There are no complaints about the connection quality, it transmits your voice quite well, while two microphones are used, which is typical for most devices. But there are 4 microphones in the phone in total, all of them are used for sound recording - the phone is outstanding in this parameter, another thing is that you will not see any striking differences under normal conditions. A trifle, but nice. However, these microphones will have their say when recording in noisy places - during parties, in nightclubs, and so on.

The loudspeaker quality is rather average, at maximum volume it is not enough, sound distortions start - in comparison even with the Lumia 630 this device sounds different, cleaner, but at high volume with a noticeable hoarseness. Listen in the store, put it in your pocket and try to imagine if you can hear it in the crowd. You may not hear this device from the pocket of your trousers in summer, you have to tinker with the settings and melodies. The vibrating alert does not correct the situation, it is quite quiet - although, this is a matter of habits, it will suit someone.

Of the other minuses, I note a rather low volume margin when playing music through headphones. I tried different headphones, everywhere the same problem - the volume at maximum is noticeably lower than that of competitors. And the presence of Dolby 5.1 does not save the situation in any way - there is not enough volume. However, you should also pay attention to this parameter and listen to the music that you know, compare with your current phone.

The Lumia 930 does not have any clear advantages over its competitors - the camera is average, the display is typical and inferior in the number of settings and features, a rather limited amount of memory and a standard chipset, like everyone else. Apart from design, there are no striking differences, but evaluating appearance means arguing about tastes, and this is not accepted and stupid. I tried to find at least one clear and unambiguous advantage, in addition to the appearance of the device, something for which it can be recommended for purchase. Unfortunately, I could not find any, and the same Windows Phone, in the opinion of ordinary buyers, is more a disadvantage than an advantage. Apparently, this is why for the first time a flagship from Nokia is not being sold very widely - it can be bought in Svyaznoy and in Nokia branded retail, but nowhere else. The largest Russian chains refused to sell the Lumia 930 in the first weeks of sales, as they were not ready to buy noticeable volumes - no one believes in this device as a device that can attract the attention of buyers. However, even the sales of the first week prove that the merchants were right, record low sales for the new flagship. This is also influenced by other moments - the crisis, the drop in sales in the segment over 20,000 rubles. But on the other hand, seasonality does not matter, Lumia 925 was also released in July, but sold much better. It is possible that the potential audience ready to try Windows Phone has already started to come to an end, and this is a sad sign.

For 25,000 rubles, the Lumia 1520 with a 6-inch FullHD-screen and with support for memory cards is already offered, this device looks more interesting than the Lumia 930. That is, if you still want to try Windows Phone, then you should opt for this phablet. For several months I tried to finish the review of the 1520, I lived with this phone for a month, as I wrote about in Spillikins. But I can't do this, because I have to force myself - about the same as using Windows Phone, since the system lags far behind the competitors in most parameters - the simplicity of many functions, the presence of additional programs and functionality. It also happened with the 930th, in many ways for me it was a phone for calls, although in the process of writing a review I forced myself to go to the Internet, use social media- it is possible, just not very convenient.

The device turned out to be ambiguous even for Nokia. Outwardly pleasant, everyday inside and without bright touches. Would be workhorse if we made a better speaker. It's a shame that the lack of investment in the development of iron leads to such "childhood" diseases. In the same Lumia 630, the work with two SIM-cards was implemented crookedly, here the speaker, the volume in the headphones and other similar little things that all together create the image of the device. But of course, the triviality on the headphones, which were not included in the kit, is striking - this is the first flagship in my memory with such savings. On the other hand, if you know what Windows Phone is, then you are no stranger to it, so perhaps this device will be for you the best choice... For 99 percent of the inhabitants of Russia, the choice of the flagship Lumia is not a choice (this is not a figure of speech, but real figure). You can become special for your money, the price is only 24,990 rubles. I've become special, but I will put this device in the bedside table, since none of my relatives have coveted it. Let it be in the collection.
