Opening the box, inside you can find:

  • main unit of the video recorder;
  • 2 elastic bands with which it is attached over the regular rear-view mirror;
  • cigarette lighter power adapter with one USB port;
  • long USB to Micro-USB cable to power the device;
  • instructions for Chinese.

The power adapter is the simplest, with one port.

The power cable is quite long - 3.5 meters.

The instruction uses Latin and Arabic numerals only in those places where it comes O technical characteristics- Wi-Fi range, Android version, etc. Thus, for a user who does not know Chinese, it is practically useless.

Also included in the delivery set is a certain plastic "tool", which, most likely, is proposed to be used in the installation process. We never figured out how to use it, and we did fine without any tools.

Exploitation

Control

The device is controlled by 5 buttons located under the mirror. The central button has a small protrusion on the surface so that it can be felt without looking.

If the video is playing, that is, the screen is not blank, the actions they perform are indicated above the buttons. Actions (and indeed the image on the screen) are signed “internationally” - with icons, the meaning of which is, in principle, intuitive.

This, of course, is great, but even if you guess that the most right button- this is the settings menu, then after clicking on it you will find pure Chinese without any hints of something else.

Photographing a mirror surface is a thankless task, so we used screenshots from the Mi Home application, with which the DVR can be controlled by connecting to it via Wi-Fi - the hieroglyphs are the same there, but the quality of their image is much better than the screen photo.

However, before you can start controlling the device, you need to somehow connect to it. Since this process is not without pitfalls, we will describe the main steps. We used the Android version of Mi Home.

  • The first and the simplest task is to find Mi Home in Play Market and install this app.
  • On first launch, you will be asked for the language and location. You can choose any language you like (Russian is present), but the location must be strictly "Mainland China" - otherwise you won't succeed.
  • Next, you will need to add the dash cam plugin to Mi Home and connect to it. Dot Wi-Fi access will be named "MiRMCam_v1_A854". To find out the password for it, go to the DVR settings menu (the rightmost key), find there the item that starts (starts!) With "Wi-Fi". Choose it. Under two hieroglyphs, you will see a sequence of 8 Arabic numbers - this is the password of your point.
  • If on the home screen, top line, the Wi-Fi symbol is crossed out - the access point is turned off. Go to the same menu item as described above and press the right key - Wi-Fi will turn on. It turns off the same way, that is, the key simply switches the modes on / off.

Now about the management. The registrar has few settings, so it's not so difficult to understand them, even if everything is in Chinese. Next, we will provide screenshots of the Mi Home application and (hopefully) their correct translation into Russian. Translatable interface elements are placed in a list in an intuitive order: top to bottom, left to right. The settings menu items of the DVR itself (as it seemed to us) for the most part coincide with the Mi Home menu.

Main screen with settings:

  • Parameters turn on Wi-Fi
  • Settings wifi password
  • Shock sensor sensitivity
  • Auto start recording
  • Volume
  • Voice control
  • Video quality
  • Screen blanking time
  • System time

Wi-Fi enable options:

  • Included
  • Turned off
  • Cancellation

Wi-Fi password settings

  • Old Password
  • New password
  • Repeat new password
  • Cancellation
  • Confirmation

Shock sensor sensitivity:

  • High
  • Low
  • Switch off
  • Cancellation

Auto start recording:

  • Turn on
  • Switch off
  • Cancellation

Volume:

  • High
  • Average
  • Low
  • Cancellation

  • High sensitivity
  • Low sensitivity
  • Switch off
  • Cancellation

Video quality:

  • Excellent
  • Good
  • Cancellation

Screen blanking time:

  • 30 seconds
  • 1 minute
  • Do not extinguish
  • Cancellation

System time:

  • Synchronize with phone
  • Cancel
  • Confirm

As you can see, there are really few settings - we did not find even the most familiar ones here, for example, setting the duration of one "piece" of video. For Xiaomi, it is equal to 2 minutes, and this cannot be changed. In general, the concept of Apple "we know you better" is copied by the "Chinese Apple" directly and consistently;)

All connectors are located on the top of the device.

This is Micro-USB for power, microSD and a small "jack" where the rear camera is apparently connected. There are clear hints about the possibility of connecting a rear camera in the directory structure of the microSD card, so it's safe to say that it really exists - but it was not in our kit.

A ball-and-socket lens protrudes from the left side of the device, facing the windshield.

Fastening

The mount and its principle of operation are standard for this form factor of DVRs and, from our point of view, do not require any additional explanation.

Collaboration with other devices

If you connect the dash cam to a computer using a USB to Micro-USB cable, it simply perceives it as plugging in a power source. So, apparently, the device does not know how to communicate with a computer.

Field trials

The process of installing the DVR on the rear-view glass was not difficult.

One of the not very pleasant moments: if the driver is not tall and is forced to "twist" the rear-view mirror towards himself, the possibilities of the lens hinge may not be enough to perfectly align it: as a result, the DVR will look not exactly in the center, but slightly slightly to the right.

The image on the screen when viewed from the side is very poorly visible, and if you also take into account the fact that there are hieroglyphs, dreams of adjusting any parameters while driving should be buried immediately. Only through a stop, twisting the mirror towards yourself, etc. Well, or through hot keys. For example, the far left turns on / off the microphone, the middle right takes a photo.

The G-sensor on bumps of a country road worked even at low sensitivity. At the end of the test operation, we turned it off completely.

We did not find any hints of a motion sensor.

The concealment of the installation on one side is quite high ... but only if the eye does not "attack" the lens flare. And this is easily possible - the diameter of the first lens (or protective glass?) - about 13 mm.

Test results

HDR / WDR

We have not come across any hints of support for these functions.

Video

By default, we use a continuous piece of about 2 minutes for test videos, recorded in the maximum resolution supported by the device. If the device uses the MP4 format as a container, no conversion is performed. If MOV is used, it is converted to MP4 without re-encoding. In all other cases, the video sequence is recoded to MP4 with a deliberately high bitrate in order to avoid quality losses.

The bitrate of the original video in our case was equal to 15.9 Mbps.

The device supports only one resolution - Full HD 1920 × 1080, so we had no choice.

Now let's watch the night video.

In general, what we see fully corresponds to the wording “an average good car Full HD DVR on a Sony matrix”. Nice picture, good dynamic range and colors, in the night picture there are obvious traces of noise reduction, which makes it more elegant, but at the same time kills small details. Everything is as always: a solid "four" - Xiaomi did not spoil anything, and we did not expect more from this matrix.

Photo

The photos, judging by the quality, are just screenshots from the video.

Sound

Sound as sound. There is almost no low-frequency "bubnezhka". Details are audible quite clearly, even quiet ones. On one of the video recordings made during the testing process, the conversation between the driver and passengers who drank coffee, standing outside the car in the area of the hood, was quite clearly audible.

conclusions

On the one hand, we can say that Xiaomi MJHSJJLY01BY is a classic version of “install, connect, set up once, and forget”. This format is quite in demand, the demand for it is stable.

On the other hand, you will not be able to completely forget, because this device does not speak either Russian or even English, so any communication with him, even the most fleeting, will be accompanied by certain difficulties. For example, you will have to learn / memorize a few hieroglyphs;)

With the third - you can really "set up and forget", and if necessary, show someone a video of what happened - remove the card from the device, insert it into a laptop or tablet, and everything is already clear there without Chinese.

Probably, if one of us decided to take this DVR for ourselves, then he would choose the third option. So it is somehow easier.

Separately, it is worth noting the rather long operating time of the device from a fully charged battery - over an hour... True, it is not very clear how to use this feature: when the power is turned off, the DVR automatically turns off, and we did not find any ways to cancel it.

Another useful novelty came out from Xiaomi, this time for a car, called YI Car Cam 2. As the name implies, this is a smart rear-view mirror with a built-in registrar. At first glance, nothing special, there are already a lot of such devices on the market, let's take a closer look at what it can do.

Externally, YI Car Cam 2 is, as usual, above all praise, a minimalist design with a durable plastic casing that will protect the device from mechanical damage and temperature extremes. There is a slot for a micro SD memory card with support up to 64 gb and a separate slot for nano SIM as well as a 3.5-inch audio output jack.
The functionality is also at its best, the device has 3 cameras in its arsenal, the main one records road events in high quality FullHD with a resolution of 1920 × 1080, in addition to the standard functions of the recorder, this camera is able to track the distance about the vehicle in front and about leaving the lane. The second camera looks into the salon, but already with the quality of shooting worse at 480p, but in fact it does not need more, it would only eat off the excess free place... A nice bonus is wireless camera all with the same 480P that can be pointed anywhere, but best used as a rear view camera for easy parking.

A 4-core processor from MediaTek MT8665 with Cortex A53 cores and a frequency of up to 1.5 Ghz is installed inside. fabricated at 28 nm. technical process. This chip is specially designed for automotive on-board computers and similar equipment. The device has many built-in modules such as: wi-fi, Bluetooth, GPS, as well as a modem for 3G and 4G networks.

Behind the mirror is 5 inch screen with a resolution of HD 1280x720 pixels, you can display all kinds of information on navigation, speed limits on a given road section, current speed, display any cameras on the screen, run video and audio files. There is support for voice control and many others useful functions... The YunOs operating system is responsible for this functionality.

Price given by Xiaomi YI Car Cam 2 is about 10,000 rubles, the price is certainly not small, but as the manufacturer assures us, we get a set of functions that contribute to a more comfortable and safe car ride. How convenient it is actually still a question. After all, they reach for the mirror in order to switch any modes or use navigation, in my opinion this is not very convenient, besides, it will be constantly stained with fingerprints from lovers of pasties (well, at least I have it for sure): ), and why run audio files through the mirror, when all cars have modern radio tape recorders with support for many sources, I personally do not understand. Will there be Russian language support for voice control? I am not saying what it is useless device on the contrary, it has a lot of really useful and convenient functions, many will like it. As for me, it is still more convenient to use a smartphone for such functionality, which is always at hand.
