Our review of Highscreen Alpha Rage - a high-quality quad-core smartphone for 5,000 rubles Greetings, our readers, and as part of the “our review” section, I present to your attention a budget quad-core smartphone Highscreen Alpha Rage

. This is the second quad-core device for 5,000 rubles that we are reviewing this month. Let's remember that a little earlier I talked about the five-inch Just5 Spacer. Today's copy has a screen diagonal of 4.5 inches, powerful filling

and high-quality assembly. There are also undeniable disadvantages, but where would we be without them for such a price? But the specimen is undoubtedly worthwhile and worthy of attention.

Appearance and equipment of Highscreen Alpha Rage

The delivery set is standard - smartphone, charging block, cable, headset, instructions. Greetings, our readers, and as part of the “our review” section, I present to your attention a budget quad-core smartphoneWith its low price, it cannot be said that

looks cheap. The smartphone is made of high-quality materials, the assembly is neat, and unlike most models of the brand, there are design elements here. The front panel is standard. The screen is surrounded by a black stripe that does not match the display in tone.

The entire perimeter of the smartphone is bordered by a glossy strip, which looks harmonious and adds points to the design. Although such solutions are quite popular among Android smartphones, it looks great.

The back side is entirely covered with a typical brand cover with a soft-touch coating that does not slip in your hands, does not collect fingerprints or scratches, and is simply pleasant to the touch. A camera with a shiny frame harmoniously fits into its upper part, with a photo flash next to it. At the bottom of the cover under the brand name there is a vertical slot for the external speaker.

Under the cover the view is standard. There is a slot for a memory card, as well as 2 slots for SIM cards located one above the other.

On the right side there is a thin power button that fits just under the thumb of a right-handed person.

On the left is the same subtle volume swing.

This design solution looks good, but pressing the buttons is not very convenient. For a long time I could not get used to where the volume swing is “up” and where “down”; the border is not very readable. Although this is still a matter of habit, it just takes time.

On top there is a MicroUSB connector and a 3.5mm headset jack.

The bottom end is empty, there is only a slot for a nail under the lid.

The thickness of the device is 12mm, which is not a lot, but within the limits of decency. At least very big phone I don't think it's pleasant to hold it in your hand.

In general, the design cannot be called sophisticated, but still this model looks much more attractive than most other Highscreen, as well as many other budget smartphones. The assembly is of standard quality, the manufacturing materials are also good, the manufacturer decided not to skimp on them. The smartphone looks monolithic, all the joints are adjusted, I was not able to extract any backlashes or creaks from it.

Screen

So, let's look at the most expensive part of a smartphone. Considering the low price of the smartphone, one cannot expect it to have a high-quality IPS matrix. However, the display Greetings, our readers, and as part of the “our review” section, I present to your attention a budget quad-core smartphone turned out to be solid, with the exception of one important drawback, which I will discuss below.

IN this device FWVGA (TFT-TN) display with a diagonal of 4.5 inches is used, resolution is 480x854 pixels. The physical size of the matrix is 56x99 mm with a pixel density of 240ppi. The indicator is not the highest, but quite comfortable. Pixelation is barely noticeable, but the image clarity is more than enough. The colors are bright and saturated, the backlight is bright enough. In addition, there is practically no air layer between the touchscreen and the matrix. There is a feeling that the picture lies almost on the surface of the glass, as with OGS (one glass solution) technology, although I have not found confirmation of this fact anywhere.

But the time has come to talk about the main disadvantage of the display - a very small vertical viewing angle if you tilt the top of the smartphone towards you. If in other directions the viewing angles are good, when tilted up-right-left the contrast drops only slightly, then when the display is tilted downwards at a very small angle, colors are instantly inverted and the image darkens. In this regard, the display seemed even worse to me than Just5 Spacer, although in other respects the screen is undoubtedly better.

At the same time, in the position in which I am used to holding the smartphone, distortion begins. So I had to change my habits.

But here I would like to add that if you want an IPS matrix with ideal viewing angles in all directions, add a few thousand and buy a more expensive smartphone.

But the touchscreen here is excellent. It responds instantly and very clearly to touch, supporting up to 5 simultaneous touches.

As a result, we would have had an excellent display for its price, if not for the minus described above. And so, he’s just good :-).

Camera

The Highscreen Alpha Rage smartphone is equipped with a main 5 MP camera and a front 0.3 MP camera. Budget smartphone a budget camera that takes budget pictures :-) Color reproduction is generally good, otherwise just average pictures from a 5 megapixel camera that are often blurry.

Sample pictures:

Sound

External speaker Highscreen Alpha R It sounds loud, and at the same time quite clean and intelligible. The included headset, although vacuum, was disappointing with its sound. It is poorly suited for listening to music, but quite suitable for conversations. But outwardly she looks quite stylish.

But the smartphone performed well on high-quality monitor headphones - both in volume and sound quality (again, in comparison with other smartphones, and not with Hi-end equipment).

The telephone speaker did not cause any complaints - it was loud and intelligible. There are no complaints about the microphone's performance.

Software

The smartphone was released onto the market with the operating system that was current at that time Android 4.2.1 with improved smoothness. Like all brand devices, there are no third-party shells or other changes. Of the pre-installed applications, there are only 4sync And file manager.

Performance

The basis of the hardware filling Greetings, our readers, and as part of the “our review” section, I present to your attention a budget quad-core smartphone is a Taiwanese chipset MediaTek MT6589M, which is a lightweight version of the standard MT6589. It is based on four ARM Cortex-A7 cores operating at a clock frequency of 1.2 MHz, as well as a PowerVR SGX544 GPU video accelerator. There is not much RAM - 512 MB, and this is the weakest link in the hardware. But for the price the filling is undoubtedly good.

Greetings, our readers, and as part of the “our review” section, I present to your attention a budget quad-core smartphone It works smoothly and does not slow down in any applications. There are no complaints about the speed of work. The lack of RAM mainly manifests itself only when using Android multitasking.

The smartphone can handle such powerful 3D games as Asphalt 8, Minion Rush, Dead Trigger 2. True, the smoothness is not ideal; stuttering is noticeable in some games. Alpha Rage can handle simpler games without hesitation.

Testing in benchmarks showed good, although not outstanding, results, with performance indicators equally good in all sections of testing.

So Antutu Benchmark gave a performance rating of "Good", we assign the status General to all three testing criteria.

The performance rating in Quadrant is at the same level.

Good, but far from flagship, HTML5 test performance was obtained when testing in Vellamo. The Metal test showed results similar to Antutu and Quadrant.

Adjusted for not the most a high resolution screen, more than good results were shown by testing video performance in Nenamark2.

To summarize, it can be noted that the smartphone turned out to be balanced, although not super-powerful. The performance is excellent for the price.

Before Just5 Spacer for the same price, Alpha Rage falls short. But Spacer turned out to be a unique device in terms of performance. And Alpha Rage has its undeniable advantages.

Job

Alpha Rage operates on GSM/GPRS/EDGE (850/1900 MHz) and UMTS (2100 MHz) networks. Wi-Fi IEEE 802.11 b/g/n and Bluetooth 4.0 are supported, and a GPS receiver is present. Management of two SIM cards is implemented by standard using Android. I had no complaints about the operation of the smartphone. The sensors work well, WiFi is weak, but works stably.

The smartphone is powered by a LiIon battery with a capacity of 2000 mAh. Given the hardware and screen size, this provides a good time battery life, The smartphone lasts 2-3 days with average intensity of use.

Results

Highscreen Alpha Rage It turned out to be a high-quality productive smartphone. Currently this smartphone, along with Just5 Spacer is one of the most budget quad-core devices in Russia. Although its appearance does not sparkle with sophistication, it is no longer a faceless brick, there are interesting elements design. The dimensions of the device are also not the most elegant, but the smartphone does not look bulky and sits nicely in the hand.

The obvious disadvantage is Greetings, our readers, and as part of the “our review” section, I present to your attention a budget quad-core smartphone, perhaps, only one - a sharp inversion of colors even with a slight deviation of the display with the upper part towards itself.

But, to summarize, I will describe all the pros and cons that I have identified.

pros

  • Good build and materials
  • Good color rendition, clarity and brightness of the display, no layer between the touchscreen and the matrix.
  • Powerful filling and good performance in all respects
  • good for this permission screen and filling battery 2000mAh
  • Dual SIM support

Minuses

  • Not very convenient power and volume buttons
  • Far from being the thinnest smartphone
  • Very small vertical viewing angle upwards. At the slightest deviation from the horizontal position, the colors fade.
  • 512MB of RAM is probably not enough

The Alpha Rage smartphone from Highscreen is made in a classic case. The smartphone body is made of plastic. The phone runs on the Android 4.2 operating system and supports dual SIM cards. Phone dimensions: width 67 millimeters, height 136 millimeters, thickness 12 millimeters.

Diagonal color touch TFT display is 4.5 inches with a maximum resolution of 854x480 and 218 pixels per inch (PPI). The device screen has an automatic rotation function.

Highscreen Alpha Rage is equipped with a 5 megapixel camera. The camera allows you to record videos. In addition to the main camera, the phone also has front-camera by 0.3 megapixels.

Highscreen Alpha Rage works on 4 nuclear processor MediaTek MT6589M, 1200 MHz and PowerVR SGX544 video processor, has 4 gigabytes of built-in and 0.5 gigabytes of RAM. The phone has a slot for a memory card up to 32 gigabytes.

The capacity of the removable lithium-ion battery is 2000 mAh.

Also, the phone is equipped with sensors: light, proximity. This adds additional functionality to the phone in various applications.

Type

Deciding on the type of device (phone or smartphone?) is quite simple. If you need a simple and inexpensive device for calls and SMS, it is recommended to choose a telephone. A smartphone is more expensive, but it offers a wide variety of options: games, videos, the Internet, thousands of programs for all occasions. However, its battery life is significantly less than that of a regular phone. smartphone Operating system (at the beginning of sales) Android 4.2 Case type classic Housing material plastic Control touch buttons Number of SIM cards

CPU

Modern phones and smartphones usually use special processors - SoC (System on Chip, system on a chip), which, in addition to the processor itself, houses the graphics core, memory controller, input/output device controller, etc. Therefore, the processor largely determines the set of functions and device performance. Greetings to all. In today's review, we will return to Android devices, this time we have a smartphone visiting us, but the smartphone is not an ordinary one, but one of the best representatives of the budget segment. One could say, even a little more, this phone is a new attempt by the Highscreen company to make the very best smartphone in its class (those who study the company’s advertising policy understand what I mean). So, what is so interesting about Highscreen Alpha Rage that it can be considered the very best? Firstly, a fairly powerful processor MT 6589M, built on Cortex A7 logic, and has a fairly powerful PowerVR graphics SGX544. Large display 4.5 inches, and most importantly the price tag is about 5 thousand rubles. Actually, for this money there are simply no analogues in terms of screen size and performance, for this money there are simply no analogues (on the official Russian market). So in this regard, he is actually the very best, just as the company is trying to present him to us. Let's figure out what's hidden under the loud advertising, and whether everything is as good as it seems at first glance.

Packaging and accessories

The device is packed in a regular cardboard package, without any color drawings that attract attention. Such packaging is typical for all the company’s devices belonging to the low-end and mid-range segment. The box is relatively small in size, but not the smallest. A feature of the design of the Highscreen brand packaging is a drawing of a smartphone with a translucent panel, under which its board is visible and where its characteristics are partially described (of course, the board is more schematic).

Removing the cover, we see the phone itself, which is securely fixed.

The equipment of the device is more than standard - Charger, data cable, headphones, battery, instructions and warranty. Please note that the warranty card contains the name of the company that owns the Highscreen brand - Vobis.

The complete headset, despite its interesting appearance, has a rather mediocre sound, which many will not be happy with. In general, its quality does not even reach average.

The included cable is traditionally also a charging cable. The charger itself has an output characteristic of 5V 0.5A.

And the battery itself is 2000 mAh, made using Li-ion technology.

Appearance

The smartphone itself in all its glory, in the packaging film (which displays its main features) and without it. At the top there is a light and proximity sensor on the left, as well as a camera for video calls on the right. Also at the very top there is speaker. The device has 3 standard touch buttons on the bottom. At the very bottom of the front panel there is a microphone.

The smartphone has a soft-touch coating on the rear panel (similar to the coating on the front panel), which is undoubtedly a rather thoughtful move; the rubberized coating not only looks good, but also prevents slipping, is pleasant to the touch and is not as susceptible to contamination as a glossy surface. The smartphone has a 5 megapixel rear camera with flash. At the bottom there is a speaker cutout. The smartphone has 1 speaker (mono sound).

On the right side of the device there is a power off button. Also between the front and rear panel you can see the plastic body of the smartphone stylized as metal.

On the left side of our smartphone there is a volume rocker.

At the top there is a headphone jack and a microUSB interface. The placement option for the USB connector is not the most successful and not the most common (most often and the most convenient location of the connector is on the bottom end of the device, and not on the top).

By removing the cover we get access to the battery, SIM cards and memory card.

Comparison of the appearance of devices. From left to right: Highscreen Spark, Highscreen Rage and LG Google Nexus 4. As you can see. In terms of dimensions, the device differs little from a similar one (diagonally) 4.5 inch smartphone. The frames are not expanded, the proportions are not much different.

Functional Features

1. Interface

Before us standard theme Android without any changes. Quantity preinstalled programs– minimal. 4Sinc is a cloud storage access program and file manager. The remaining “additional” programs are taken from the function settings.

Available standard set widgets.

The top line contains up to 10 notification icons, which is standard for this resolution and aspect ratio of the device

Installed operating system– Android 4.2.1, which has recently become the norm for mid-range and budget devices, but at the time of release it was one of the cheapest devices with this OS. Actually below, in the assembly section there is a vendor signature of the Vobis company.

There are also no visual changes in the settings menu.

But in the screen settings menu, there are some changes, which indicates a not entirely standard assembly. A “scenes” item has appeared, which apparently determines the type of watch. There is also a “Themes” item, which determines the color of the installed shell (separators, indicators, and so on).

In the wallpaper item, there is an additional “video wallpaper” item, which allows you to set a video file as an animated desktop.

Naturally, there are standard and live wallpapers.

The presence of the “Auto” setting (in the brightness menu) indicates the presence of a light sensor.

In the sound menu, in addition to setting up sound profiles, it is possible to enable technology for improving sound in headphones (the sound actually becomes somewhat larger and richer, although to feel this, you will have to buy normal headphones).

As for RAM, 468 megabytes of RAM are allocated, of which 90 to 150 megabytes are always free. Of course, this is not enough; there can be no background switching between a heavy game and an application, if there is a heavy process and its transition to background mode, the application automatically terminates in the background.

Concerning internal memory, about 1 gigabyte of memory is available to the user for applications and about 2 gigabytes for the application cache, however, it is possible to switch between the built-in memory and an external SD card (just switch and reboot the device and all applications will be installed on the external memory card).

It is possible to synchronize the device as a USB drive, which is certainly not uncommon, but the lack of this option is sometimes very frustrating.
2. Screen

As for the screen. Contrary to initial assumptions and announcements, the device has a regular TFT-TN matrix, and not a TFT-IPS, as previously stated, viewing angles and brightness correspond to a conventional TFT matrix (not particularly brilliant viewing angles and not the largest, but quite sufficient brightness reserve). The viewing angles of the device, as you can see in the picture (photos in reflection have been added to get a more or less complete composition), are not very outstanding, but for a device at this price this is not so bad. As for glare resistance, in general, the brightness margin is enough for a sunny day to make out information, but it is far from comfortable viewing information in the sun.

3. Camera

3.1. Camera settings

There are many settings available in the camera settings. It is possible to use geo-tagging and face detection.

There is the possibility of software video stabilization.

There are exposure settings, sharpness settings and shades.

There is an adjustment for white balance and flicker reduction (you can adjust the refresh rate, similar to monitors - ideal for shooting directly from device screens). There is also an effect setting.

In addition to resolution, you can also adjust light sensitivity, which is not so common on Android devices.

For video, the settings are simpler, but the same is available. In addition to changing the resolution and settings listed at the beginning, there is a function for adding effects and slowing down the video (under the slowdown, in fact, there was a timer to delay the start of shooting, apparently in order to get into the frame yourself).

To focus an image, just touch the focus point with your finger; to zoom in (digital zoom), just use a 2-point gesture on the screen (a familiar way to zoom in a browser)
There are also several shooting modes:

When you hold the mode icon for a long time in some modes, a hint appears at the top. There is also a built-in editor, but we will not dwell on it, it is quite standard.

3.2. Examples of pictures and videos

Examples of outdoor shooting. As you can see in the pictures, the camera in the device is mediocre, the photos are not saturated, and in order to focus and not blur the photo, you will have to practice. Of course the pictures were taken on standard settings, so maybe changing them can improve the quality a little.

Examples of subject photography and text photography. As for photographs of objects and text, this camera, like the cameras of most smartphones, is not suitable for subject photography; it is not worth taking pictures with, unless there is no other choice. Of course, by adding lighting you can slightly enliven the photo, but you will not get a masterpiece. As for shooting text, in general the text is readable, even with standard settings, which is undoubtedly a plus for those who constantly have to photograph text.

As for video, the camera is capable of recording videos in a resolution of 1280 by 720; overall, the video quality is not that bad, but far from ideal, but in general, given the price of the device, this is not surprising.

Generally general impressions from the camera: the camera in the device is above the “for show” level and, although not the main focus of the device, will satisfy the requirements of some users. As for the built-in flash, it is quite weak, even compared to other devices that have 1 LED on the flash; it may be suitable as a flashlight, but it is absolutely unsuitable for shooting in the dark.

4. Built-in applications

Let's consider only applications that are not always found in the list of preinstalled ones.

The 4Sinc application, after registration or authorization in the service, allows you to save to cloud storage data (the company reports 20 gigabytes as a gift, but this is the starting package of space when installing this application).

System Update is a separate update checking tool.

The device has an FM receiver and a corresponding application to work with it.

Like most Chinese smartphones, this device has the ability to set the time to turn off and turn on.

Built-in file manager allows you to access all files on your smartphone.

Testing and Performance

1. Synthetic tests

In the popular Antutu tester, our device showed quite decent results for its class. This result fully corresponds to the installed hardware.

And, in fact, some information about the device from Antutu.

As for the rest of the tests, our participant showed himself to be “cheerful” here too, having coped with absolutely all tests at the proper level.

As for the battery test, this time I tested first at minimum brightness, then at maximum. Result: at minimum brightness the test lasted more than 6 hours, at maximum a little more than 4 hours (synthetic result in the screenshots).

The touch screen supports up to 5 simultaneous touches.

2. Game tests

The gaming performance of the device is quite high for its class; the device allows you to play modern games, albeit not always at high settings, but among budget ones, this decision one of the best and second only to the MT6582M, released relatively recently. As you can see in the processor diagram, it supports the USB-OTG function, but it is not available in this device.
For gaming tests 4 games were tested: Dead Trigger 2, Asphalt 8, Dungeon Hunter 4 and Modern Combat 4: Zero Hour.

Game Dead Trigger 2 without problems are coming on any graphics settings. The only thing is that sometimes there are freezes between levels, which I did not find on more productive solutions; apparently, the small amount of RAM affects it.

In the game Asphalt 8, the system allows you to set only low and very low graphics settings, which affects the picture, but the game has no problems with these settings.

DH4 sets the graphics settings to medium, which is also visible in the textures (it is impossible to manually adjust the graphics).

The game Modern Combat 4: Zero Hour sets low graphics settings, it is impossible to adjust, but the game also runs freely on auto-tuning, without any problems or freezes.
In general, the gaming performance of Highscreen Alpha Rage is at an acceptable level; most modern games will run at automatic settings(medium-low), which of course will not allow you to enjoy all the delights of the graphics of all games, but will at least allow you to play them.

3. Video tests

For clarity, I use a table similar to the previous one, since I already had a stencil and a set of videos, I didn’t come up with anything new, I just tested the set and entered the results into the stencil. In general, the smartphone copes well with video files, however, this time I did not focus on which codecs were used to play the file (hardware or software), but most files were played back without problems, regardless of the codecs (the heaviest file gave an error and did not started).
I also checked the ability to play online video from Youtube service through special application and directly from the browser - there were no problems there either.
As for the sound from the device's speaker, it can be called good, especially considering the class of the device. The volume level for multimedia is loud enough. In terms of the volume of the call, it could be louder (it’s not always possible to hear), but all this is subjective.

4. Autonomous operation

A few words about battery life. In addition to synthetics, I did some research on the battery capabilities, the results are as follows:
- active use (games), with maximum brightness turned on Wi-Fi network and 2 active SIM cards – about 4 hours;
- active use (games), with medium brightness, in flight mode – 6 hours 10 minutes;
- Internet surfing, average display brightness – about 7 hours;
- watching movies, airplane mode, average brightness – 8 hours;
- watching movies, maximum brightness, 2 active SIM cards – about 6 hours;
- mixed use (calls, games, SMS, music, surfing) – 9 hours 30 minutes;
- standby mode, 2 active SIM cards – 3 days;
- standby mode, disconnected communication - almost a week;
- Voice connection(continuous) – about 6 hours of conversation;
- use in “phone only” mode, voice calls and SMS – about 25-30 hours;
- use as a GPS navigator, average brightness, active 3G network - about 3 hours;
- reading books, minimum brightness, flight mode - about 11 hours;
- listening to music, continuous playback, flight mode – 34 hours.
In general, the battery life of the device is not particularly good; with active use and even mixed use, the device will barely last for a day, so those who like to work for a long time (for example, on the road) will have to buy portable accumulator. In general, the device shows quite normal battery life for its class and price.

Summarizing

What we have? For a modest 5 thousand rubles, we got an excellent performance device, with a 4.5-inch display diagonal, good sound, mediocre battery, screen and camera. Actually, the desire of the Vobis company to release the “best” devices on the Russian market is once again not empty words. One could say even more - There are not so many direct competitors in terms of price-quality ratio (price-performance) for the device, or rather there is only one– the recently released Just5 Spacer (higher performance, larger diagonal, but it is not yet available for sale). The device has many analogues in price: Explay Golf (has lower performance, otherwise identical), Huawei Y511 (similar), XDevice Note II (larger diagonal, significantly inferior in performance), DNS S4003 (slightly more low price, smaller diagonal, weaker graphics and processor). By the way, one of the undoubted advantages of Highscreen Alpha Rage is also the consistency of the price in all stores; it is difficult to find it more expensive than the recommended 4990, while its competitors can boast of a range of prices.

Advantages and disadvantages:
+ excellent performance for your money;
+ diagonal 4.5 inches;
+ low cost;
+ quality of assembly and execution;
+ operating system Android 4.2.1;
+ support for two SIM cards;
+ soft-touch coating of the case;
+ good sound;
+ ability to install applications on an external memory card;
- mediocre screen;
- battery could be better;
- little RAM

All the disadvantages of the device are due only to its budget, if you take into account the price, then there are simply no disadvantages of the device as such, because in this segment there are no devices that do not have at least one similar drawback.
That's all, AnSoReN was with you, see you soon!

Introduction

Today on the Russian market there is a huge number inexpensive smartphones with interesting technical characteristics. Despite the fact that Highscreen Alpha Rage began to be sold quite a long time ago, this moment it has not lost its relevance at all: at a cost of just under 5,000 rubles, it has a quad-core processor from MediaTek on board (though with one caveat - a chipset with the “M” index), a relatively large screen diagonal of 4.5 inches, an adequate battery capacity of 2000 mAh, well and a completely normal autofocus camera. I feel that in a year, or even earlier, for this money it will be possible to buy a decent phone, practically not inferior to modern gadgets in the middle price segment.

Design, dimensions, control elements

About design similar devices it is necessary either to speak in a positive way, or not to speak at all, since some manufacturers try to at least somehow highlight their models, others simply rivet gadgets of the same type. Unfortunately, Rage belongs to the latter, i.e. it is a featureless piece of black plastic, almost oval in shape. I understand that such devices are cheap precisely because of the simplest appearance, but you can at least somehow distinguish the phones from the “crowd” of similar ones.

The front side is protected by glass. This is not Gorilla Glass, but after several weeks of using the phone, not a single deep scratch remained on the display. The surface is non-staining, but marks still remain and can be erased very easily - definitely a plus. The edging is made of glossy plastic. Back cover- made of soft-touch plastic. The thin frame around the perimeter is dark chrome-plated plastic.

The assembly of the device, in general, is not bad, but the rear central area bends slightly towards the battery. Otherwise, everything is fine: the body does not play, does not creak, and does not crunch when compressed. There are no cracks or gaps. It fits well in the hand, since the shape of the back panel is sloping at the edges.

The dimensions of Rage are as follows: 136x67x12 mm. This is a plump gadget, however, due to the thinning of the body towards the side edges it is almost invisible. It weighs 145 grams.

The speech speaker is located on the top of the front panel. It is covered with a thin plastic mesh. The speaker has an average volume, mainly high frequencies are heard, the interlocutor can be heard clearly, but intelligibility could be better. At maximum volume it wheezes a little. Next to the speaker is the front camera, light and proximity sensors.

Touch buttons“Back”, “Home”, “Menu” are located below the display. They are painted on the body with white translucent paint. There is a backlight, it is dim, but you can see it well at night and it doesn’t hurt your eyes. Sensitivity is good. There is a microphone under the Back button.

At the top end there is a 3.5 mm audio output for headphones and a micro-USB connector. On the right, just above the center, is the power button. It is slightly concave, can be easily felt with your fingers, the pressure is soft, the stroke is average, there is no clicking sound. The volume rocker key on the left side is approximately the same type.

On the back of the device there is a camera module, a flash and a slot where the speakerphone is hidden.

To open the lid, you need to pry it off by the notch on the bottom end. Bottom left, one above the other - miniSIM cards (the one below is SIM1, operating in 2G/3G, SIM2 - only in 2G), on the right - card slot microSD memory hot-swappable.

Display

In this Highscreen model, the screen diagonal is 4.5 inches. Physical size – 56x99 mm, frames on the right and left are 6 mm, top – 15 mm, bottom – 22 mm. The display resolution is typical for such devices - 854x480 pixels, density - 217 pixels per inch. Pixelation is invisible, at least at a distance of 20-30 cm. The matrix is not made using IPS technology, so tilting the display away from you reduces the brightness and contrast, and away from you the colors are inverted. The brightness of the matrix backlight is slightly above average. During the day the picture is visible well, in the sun it fades greatly, indoors the brightness can be reduced to 50-60%. The backlight control range is narrow, minimum value not very comfortable for reading information at night.

The capacitive touch layer supports up to five simultaneous touches.

Battery

The Highscreen Alpha Rage uses a removable 2000 mAh (7.4 Wh) lithium-ion (Li-Ion) battery. The manufacturer does not provide data on autonomy.

The operating time of the gadget is exactly the same as any other Android smartphone in this class, i.e. “lives” for about 7-8 hours in a relatively active mode with a 3G connection: 20-30 minutes of talking, about an hour of using the camera, the same amount of video watching, 3-4 hours on Twitter and mail.

And from network adapter, and the battery is charged from USB within 4 – 4.5 hours.

Memory and memory card

I skipped the section with communication capabilities, because there is nothing original in it: support for two 2G/3G SIM cards, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, and so on.

Inside the device there is 512 MB of RAM, with an average of about 150 MB free. Few people have one gigabyte for less than 5,000 rubles. The built-in Flash memory is also small - 4 GB: about 2 GB is used for data storage and 1 GB for installing applications. Naturally, there is a slot for a microSD memory card. The maximum volume is 32 GB.

Camera

There are two camera modules: the first is a 5 MP main one with autofocus (F2.8 aperture), the second is a 0.3 MP front camera (F2.8 aperture). There is a single-section LED flash.

The quality of the photos is very average (low detail, soap at the edges of the frames), but for a device worth 5,000 rubles it’s quite ok, and besides, you can use focusing. The video is recorded in a resolution of 1280x720 pixels at 30 frames per second. The sound is relatively clean (relatively, because there is some crackling and faint noise). In any case, the sound is cleaner than on devices with the old MTK6577.
