By far the most anticipated communicator of the year. And now his presentation has just taken place. This is a new generation of flagships. Vector of the overall development of the smartphone industry. You can learn about the sensory concept, the reimagining of past generations and the unique features of new Galaxy S and read the presentation itself in detail here: “ " And now we propose to move on to the most important information for you and me - specifications.

Let us clarify just a few important differences between the new Galaxy S7 And Galaxy S7 Edge. Capital reincarnations when changing generations Samsung did not produce. However, there were some surprises. First of all, it should be mentioned that these are the world's first smartphones with a camera. Dual Pixel. It combines a fast lens, pixel magnification, high speed shutter release and more accurate autofocus with one sole purpose - to make the device take high-quality photographs even in very bad conditions lighting without blur and other image artifacts.

To this should be added sealing according to the IP68 specification (protection from water and dust), displays Always On(like the one), support for microSD cards, system Game Launcher to notify gamers about the battery status and run charge conservation algorithms. Besides, Samsung creates two modifications each Galaxy S7 And Galaxy S7 Edge equipped with different chipsets depending on the sales region. In some countries, an eight-core 64-bit processor with a clock speed of 2.3 GHz is offered (obviously Samsung Exynos 8 Octa 8890), in others - an identical quad-core 64-bit analogue with a clock frequency of 2.1 GHz (no doubt). It's time to meet the new generation flagship smartphones companies Let me remind you that last year we considered the Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+ as the most interesting representative of the Galaxy S6 family.

Thanks to First-Store, we got the opportunity to review the latest Samsung product.

In the current generation, we will see a slight rethinking of the top-level line, as well as a fundamentally new hardware component, so there is no need to talk about a slight “facelift,” but let’s talk about everything in order.

In the last generation, the manufacturer created as many as three devices within one line: the familiar flagship Galaxy S6, the same one, but with a curved Galaxy screen S6 Edge and Galaxy S6 “tablet” with a rounded screen Edge plus.

Now the approach is somewhat different: the Galaxy S7 remains the usual size, and the Galaxy S7 Edge gets a screen with a diagonal of 5.5" “neither fish nor fowl”, exactly between the flagships of the past. And this is quite logical, since quite recently Samsung hardly fit into this collection Galaxy Note 5 with its 5.7" screen. Now everything has fallen into place.

*In the version for our market. There is also an option with Qualcomm Snapdragon 820, 2 x 2150 MHz + 2 x 1600 MHz, Kryo, Adreno 530.
**The combined slot is typical only for the dual-sim version, otherwise the slots for the SIM card and memory card are separate.

When looking at the table, you can understand that almost everything has changed. Now the sales market is divided into two segments, one of them will be supplied with devices with Snapdragon 820, the other with Exynos 8890. By the way, the latter is intended for the Russian Federation.

The manufacturer responded to user complaints and returned the memory card slot, and also removed the “compromise” option with 3 GB of RAM. The high-capacity battery looks especially attractive, which, by the way, has become even “thicker” than the one installed in the 5.7" Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge plus. Plus, to all this, “official” moisture resistance has appeared, although the previous generation devices resisted splashes and dust well .

One of the oddities worth noting is the lack of a 128 GB version of the smartphone. That's basically it.

Packaging and equipment Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge

The packaging design has a slightly different color scheme, but the typography remains almost untouched.

On the reverse side it is clearly indicated for which region the smartphone is intended.

The design has also changed; now it is a lid that is attracted to the box using a magnet and opens to the side.

The following set of supplies awaits us inside:

  • Charger;
  • MicroUSB cable;
  • Stereo headset;
  • Data transfer attachment;
  • Documentation.

Yes, yes, the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge is equipped with a MicroUSB port, and not the usual one in 2016 USB Type-C. On the one hand, this is good because it does not require replacing all accessories, if any, but on the other hand, the new format is more convenient, more reliable and has a longer service life. So the situation here is twofold.

The charger is exactly the same as what we saw earlier. Even the charging current has not changed.

And here is the same device for quickly transferring data from an old smartphone to a new one. In order to use it, you need to connect it to the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge, and insert a MicroUSB cable into the female port, which at the other end is directly connected to the old gadget. This algorithm works using proprietary software.

The stereo headset is packaged in an individual plastic box.

Its sound quality is quite decent, and the kit includes an additional pair of rubber tips.

pros

Nice and beautiful smartphone

Minuses

Insane price for replacing the screen (the glass cannot be changed separately) - 27,000 rubles

Impression

Finally decided to change the old Galaxy S5 to new model from Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge.

What can I say - I'm disappointed, the next phone will definitely not be Samsung.

It's not the quality of the phone - it's quite decently made - but the manufacturer's service policy.

Unfortunately, I dropped my phone (in a Samsung branded case, by the way!)

A web of cracks appeared along the corner of the screen.

I decided to find out the cost of replacing the glass and.... I was stunned.

The glass does not change separately, only the entire screen, and replacement costs.... 25,000 rubles!

Gentlemen, this is half the price of the phone! Mobile phone may fall and hit the screen, it happens!

Even on the iPhone 6S, a replacement costs less - around 16,000 rubles, despite the fact that the phone is the same price as the Galaxy!

When I contacted Samsung, they politely told me that they do not control service centers. How can it be, gentlemen, it’s you who supply them with spare parts for crazy money, and confirm their status as a service center!

Isn't it in your best interest to maintain the appeal of using the device as a whole, or "sell it and forget it"?

Well, the battery has become weaker (or rather, there are a lot of non-disabled services), if previously it was enough for 2 days, now you need to charge it every day.

Is the review helpful?

pros

beautiful, takes great photos.

Minuses

There is no way to put 2 Sim cards and memory card at the same time.

I can’t say that the display with beveled corners is comfortable.

Fragile, has hidden defects that are not indicated anywhere, poor quality.

The main disadvantage is that the manufacturer “evades” warranty obligations.

Impression

We have been using Samsung for the past 10 years. All previous models (Galaxy S2, S3, and S4) worked perfectly. We've been waiting for this model. When it appeared, we immediately bought it (in mid-July 2016). I bought it for my wife. While I was using it, I was satisfied. I used it very carefully in the case and with the glass glued on. I didn't even have jeans in my pocket. On September 23, in standby mode (when, in theory, the display should be turned off), it began to glow a little green, then image distortions appeared during use. When contacting the official service, they sent a photo somewhere “supposedly to the factory,” and upon inspection, the technician said that there was no damage to the display. And as a result, at the “factory” (as reported by the service), mechanical damage to the display was determined from the photo. How can you make a diagnosis from a photo? It is unclear how this damage occurred. They didn’t advance, they didn’t press. It turns out that the phone is so fragile that the display was damaged during normal careful use in the case and through the glued glass. There were 100% no mechanical impacts on the display. It is not in our power to prove anything to them. They talk “slipperily”: like yes, we understand everything, with the subtext: “it’s your own fault that you bought it.” You can't count on a warranty with these phones. The cost of replacing the display is half the cost of the phone. The service also said (in person) that this model has hidden defects. Samsung's quality has basically dropped. I have an S27D590 monitor at home, it worked for a year and started turning off spontaneously.

As a result, we are disappointed with the phone and the company and its official service.

As a result, if you buy a Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge, know that you are buying it without a warranty. There is no way to leave a review about a product anywhere on the Samsung website, and this is probably due to the poor quality of their products.

When used this way, this will not happen with phones from other manufacturers.

Is the review helpful?

Flagship Samsung smartphones for several years in a row they have been one of the most technologically advanced on the market (if not the most). Of course, there are no ideal devices: either the MicroSD slot was removed, or there is not enough moisture protection for complete happiness, or the design is very “for everyone”: hello to models with a plastic back “under the skin” and the Galaxy S5 from last year with a patch-like golden version. Starting last year, Samsung finally decided to abandon plastic and switched to more expensive-looking glass and metal. The move is definitely the right one, because a flagship device should look like a flagship, right? This year the company continued this practice and took into account many previous design flaws Galaxy flagships S7 and S7 edge.

The previous line was organized, it seems to me, somewhat chaotically: first, the Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 edge were released with identical characteristics and the difference in the curved display. Later, two larger ones appeared: S6 edge+ and Note 5. Again, with similar characteristics and the main difference in the curved display and S-Pen stylus. It seems that Samsung was testing the waters with the optimal sizes of these same curved screens for more widespread adoption. Current flagship line Galaxy S7 and S7 edge received only one edge model with an “average” size of 5.5 inches (right between the 5.1 and 5.7 models last year).

What will we talk about?

Today we will take a closer look at the Samsung Galaxy S7 edge. We recently released a large and cool review of the Samsung Galaxy S7, which is highly recommended both in general and from the point of view of today’s review: the smartphones are almost identical in internals, performance and shell. The main emphasis will be on the differences between the models and personal impressions, although we will not miss all the traditional points. In her review, Nina Glushchenko wrote about her extremely positive impressions of last year Galaxy lines S6. It was all the more interesting for me, since I did not share her enthusiasm at all. Looking ahead a little, I’ll say that Samsung managed, at first glance, to refine what we already saw in the Galaxy S6, but to do it in such a way that general impression is radically different.

Good looking?

Of course, the design is very similar to the Samsung Galaxy S6 edge+, but that makes it no less impressive. Quite the opposite: there are still a number of successful improvements, and the colors have become more interesting and practical (this is a matter of taste): the golden version remains, the other two colors are black and silver, which just ended up in our editorial office and which I consider the most practical . The smartphone looks great. In addition to the folding side edges, the top and bottom of the front glass are now rounded. There are no sharp corners; the impression is created of a harmonious flow of glass into a metal frame, which, by the way, also has no sharp corners. It is difficult to fully convey the impressions with photographs.

The screen occupies most of the front panel ( 76.1% to be exact), the frames on the sides are minimal, and thanks to the bends, it seems like they are completely absent. Despite the formal 5.5 inches, the smartphone cannot be called a “phablet” or “plafond”, as has already been the custom with such a diagonal or more. Thanks to very small frames and curves, the smartphone is comparable in width to 5.2-inch models: its width is 72.6 mm, while the 5.2-inch Sony Xperia The Z5 has 72.1mm, while the 5.3-inch flagship LG G5 has 73.9mm. The rest of the functional elements are standard: a pair of touch buttons on the bottom, between them there is a mechanical “Home” button with a built-in fingerprint scanner. Above the screen - speaker, sensors, LED indicator and large front camera lens.

The smartphone glares in places where it bends, although I didn’t notice anything bad about it. This does not affect the visibility of information when the screen is on, even with a large number of bright light sources around. The LED indicator is large and bright. And, of course, one of the “tricks” of this year is the active screen. A useful feature, although not new for a long time. You don’t have to go far: for the same Lumia with OLED displays, this function is called Glance Screen. With AMOLED screens, you don’t have to worry that it will consume a lot of charge, because only specific pixels light up, and not the entire screen:

The frame is metal, quite narrow on the sides, which is due to the curves of the glass at the front and back. It was made successfully: the smartphone does not try to slip out of your hand, as one might expect. The buttons are implemented as in the previous line: thin, metal and quite protruding beyond the body. They are convenient to use. On the left are separate volume control buttons:

On the right is the power button:

There is a MicroUSB connector on the bottom edge. Samsung is in no hurry to switch to USB Type-C yet. One of the reasons is compatibility with an already released helmet virtual reality Samsung Gear VR Despite the water protection, it does not have a plug, but you won’t be able to charge a smartphone with a wet port: there is a software and hardware “foolproof” feature. The user will see a corresponding message on the screen, and charging will not begin until drying. There is also an external speaker, quite loud and of high quality, a microphone and a 3.5 mm headphone jack. A more convenient location for it than at the top end. After all, most people carry a smartphone in their pants pocket. On the sides there are plastic inserts for antenna output:

On the top edge there is another microphone, a SIM and MicroSD tray and two more plastic inserts:

All back cover made of glass, the sides are also curved. Of course, it looks beautiful and impressive, but not very practical. It collects fingerprints abundantly, although thanks to the oleophobic coating they are removed quickly and easily. Again, this cannot be conveyed in the photo, but both in front and behind the glass, with an abundance of different light sources, casts corresponding glare.

Despite the similar color, it is made back panel much better than the Sony Xperia Z5 Premium, which looks like a mirror. In this case, you won’t be able to see your reflection: the color is more matte:

The main camera module is very similar to the previous line, but it is made more successfully: the camera practically does not protrude from the body, which was quite annoying in the Galaxy S6:

In our test sample, the tray is designed for one SIM card and MicroSD. IN commercial samples There will be a combined second slot for SIM or memory card. A folk craftsman from the Internet has already posted detailed instructions how to get both 2 SIM and MicroSD, but the procedure is quite troublesome and is accompanied by the risk of damaging both the cards and the smartphone itself:

Both the design and build quality were as expected the highest level. In fact, Samsung took all the best from the previous line, and all controversial issues smoothed out. The smartphone looks great and fits very comfortably in the hand. More convenient than the Galaxy S6 edge+, and it’s not just the smaller screen diagonal. The only thing you can cling to is glass, which very actively collects fingerprints, but this is absolutely not lethal. Another indicator of successful appearance It can be said that the Galaxy S7 edge was very popular with several non-fans of Samsung smartphones and several Apple fans. As for moisture protection, engineering samples do not always correspond to the final ones in this regard, and I deliberately did not drown our sample, although it managed to get caught in a very impressive downpour and survived such a light bath without any problems.

How is his screen?

The Samsung Galaxy S7 edge has a SuperAMOLED display with Diamond PenTile pixel arrangement. The diagonal, as we remember, is 5.5 inches, the pixel density is 534 ppi, which is more than enough, the pixels are impossible to see. Theoretically, the picture in the Samsung Gear VR helmet should also be quite decent. Despite my skepticism about AMOLED, in this case the screen looks great, after all, screen developers from Samsung Display It’s not for nothing that they get their hard-earned money. According to subjective impressions, the brightness is enough even for sunny weather, which during testing was not pleasant in rainy March Kyiv. Screen protected Corning Gorilla Glass 4 with excellent quality oleophobic coating.

It’s probably not worth expecting any problems with viewing angles. No distortion or loss of brightness:

Multi-touch up to 10 touches supported:

If you don’t go into the measurement results of the devices, the screen really deserves praise; it looks great. Reacts without problems, including touches with wet fingers in heavy rain.

For those who trust dry numbers and instruments more

The smartphone has four calibration modes:

Adaptive and “film” are distinguished by more “vigorous” colors, “Photo” and basic look more natural, but at the same time the maximum brightness is lower. The calibration cannot be called accurate; the screen goes into cold tones with different intensities depending on the mode. Of course, the minimum brightness is 0, and the contrast tends to infinity. The maximum brightness in adaptive mode is 359.848 cd/m2, highest blue bias:

“Film” is a little more precise, maximum brightness is 356.852 cd/m2:

The “Photo” mode turned out to be the closest to natural color rendition; the maximum brightness is significantly lower: 316.766 cd/m2:

And the main mode with the lowest maximum brightness of 308.467 cd/m2:

The maximum brightness is not a record, but very good considering AMOLED. Most IPS displays have the same level, although IPS is usually brighter.

How powerful is the hardware inside and how long does the battery last?

For those who are too lazy to read the dull names of processors, numbers, watch numerous screenshots of synthetic tests, and so on, it’s worth mentioning right away: the Samsung Galaxy S7 edge is one of the most powerful smartphones in existence. The most powerful processor own development Exynos and 4 GB of RAM, which is no longer a record, but this is more than enough for absolutely any task. What can I say, 3 years ago I had less RAM on my desktop PC. No applications, games or a large number of them running simultaneously makes the smartphone slow down or even get warm. Any available on this moment games "fly" on maximum settings graphics:

At this point, it’s worth remembering that there is such a thing as Game Tools. Nina spoke about it in detail in Galaxy review S7, in the edge version everything is absolutely the same. The utility collects all games in one place and allows you to disable them while playing touch buttons(a kind of analogue of disabling the Win button on gaming keyboards), turn off notifications, take screenshots, videos in the game and configure the performance mode depending on the remaining charge:

There is only one version: with 32 GB of internal memory and a hybrid slot for SIM/MicroSD. Not much by today's standards, but the returning memory card slot solves the problem. The volume of the external speaker is quite sufficient for both alarm clocks and calls in moderately noisy places, and the quality is also quite good. From the point of view of use as a player, it is difficult to judge, because I have long been accustomed to using a Hi-Fi player for these purposes. After a relatively short listening period, we can say that the sound quality in the headphones is very high, plus there are all sorts of improvements and useful functions:

The smartphone is equipped with all modern wireless interfaces: Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n/ac 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz, Bluetooth 4.2 LE, NFC, ANT+. There is only no infrared port for controlling equipment, but I don’t think this is critical. Navigation is also good; GPS picks up satellites almost immediately:

The Samsung Galaxy S7 edge has a non-removable battery with a capacity of 3600 mAh. This is more than the S7 with a 3000 mAh battery. With time battery life things are going very well: with very active use with big amount conversations, the Internet, constant synchronization and games, the smartphone lasts a day without problems. In a more gentle mode, you can easily get two days. The smartphone streams video over Wi-Fi for just over 14 hours, and you can play games for about 7 hours. Smartphone supports fast charging via cable and wireless induction. We did not have the appropriate chargers during testing, so it would not be entirely correct to give figures on charging time.

For those who want to know more

The Exynos 8 Octa 8890 processor is manufactured using 14nm FinFET technology, using the architecture big.LITTLE. The production unit contains four custom Mongoose cores with a clock frequency of up to 2.6 GHz, the second unit contains four Cortex-A53 at 1.6 GHz, a graphics accelerator - Mali T880MP12 with Vulcan API support, so future graphics-heavy games will run smoothly. Random access memory- 4 GB. This is the configuration in global version, in the USA, instead of Exynos, the top-end quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 is used. The smartphone scores very high scores in performance tests and is ahead of most existing smartphones. In the popular AnTuTu, the smartphone scores more than 130,000 “parrots”. As you can see in the screenshots below, only one other Galaxy S7 edge has a higher indicator (errors in tests can be very significant) and Xiaomi Mi5, which has a screen resolution of 1920x1080:

How good is the shell?

Samsung Galaxy S7 edge Runs on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow OS with its own TouchWiz shell. It just so happened that in terms of the shell top smartphones Samsung is akin to spaceships. Incredible amount additional functions, frills and so on. By and large, the shell is a topic for a separate large article, but we will try to describe the capabilities in general terms.

The desktops are organized in the usual way, there is a separate menu with all applications. Many labels have been redrawn. Application icons have notifications about new messages (social networks, for example):

You can change wallpapers, themes, add widgets, everything is as usual. It is possible to customize the grid of shortcuts. Available options are 4x4, 4x5 and 5x5:

We should also mention the Galaxy Labs section in the settings with “experimental” functions. At the moment there are two. The first is displaying all applications on desktops (as is done in MIUI and other Chinese shells). The second is speed dialing using voice:

The curtain is two-level, everything is quite conveniently organized, but there is also the ability to edit:

The organization of the settings menu has not changed much from previous versions of TouchWiz:

The Application Manager looks pretty standard, but there is a button to switch to multi-window mode:

You can adjust the size of windows, rearrange them, copy content, and so on:

There is a simplified mode with large icons:

Security settings and fingerprinting. The scanner works great. Very fast and accurate, one of the best at the moment (subjective):

The Smart Manager utility allows you to clean the internal memory, RAM and enable power saving mode:

Various energy saving modes, including extreme energy saving with grayscale color palette changes:

Useful additional features:

Small screen mode for one hand. Launched by triple pressing the Home button:

Using a gesture from any top corner diagonally downwards, you can collapse the window open application. It can be adjusted in size, moved, or completely collapsed into a shortcut:

In the display settings you can adjust the brightness, font, font size, enable the notification indicator, screen saver and Always On Display. There are different modes: just a clock, a calendar, a picture, and so on:

Something like this:

And utility quick connection to nearby devices:

Well, a bunch of branded applications, starting with your own dialer and file manager and ending with the recorder:

The shell is really very functional and comfortable. I suspect that most users will not use all the features it has.

How useful is a curved screen?

We should also consider the Edge UI, which is missing in the regular S7. As in previous S6 edge/edge+, the side panel opens by swiping from the edge of the screen in the place where the marker is located. Its position, size and transparency can be adjusted, just like active panels:

The company store has additional ones, including paid ones with additional functionality. Let's hope there will be more of them. The assortment is not too diverse yet:

Standard panels. Fast access to applications, favorite contacts, weather and useful tools: compass, flashlight with 5 brightness levels and ruler:

There are enough useful feature night hours. In the settings you can select a time range:

The bend displays the clock, the nearest alarm clock, battery charge and notifications (if any):

When you miss a call or message from one of your favorite contacts, another side marker of the corresponding color appears. By pulling it you can see information about a missed call, make a call, send a message or e-mail:

When the screen is off, you can swipe back and forth along the curve; all notifications and/or notifications will be displayed on this edge. news feed from selected sources. In general, the edge functions are quite convenient and useful, more thought out than in the previous model, but they cannot yet be called something revolutionary or necessary.

How are things going with the camera?

The main camera has a resolution 12 megapixels Dual Pixel, with LED flash, phase detection autofocus, f/1.7 aperture and 4K video recording, front - 5 MP. According to information online, the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge use different modules, Samsung and Sony respectively. Our edge actually has Sony installed:

The camera is described in great detail and with an abundance of test shots in the Galaxy S7 review, so there is no point in repeating it. Despite the different modules, there is no fundamental difference in quality. By the way, according to version DxOMark, the camera in the Galaxy S7 edge is currently the best among smartphones. The interface was also described in the previous review, so we can limit ourselves to screenshots of all the main controls:

The camera is really excellent, the photos are taken even in very low light, everything is cool.

Standard Mode:

Slow motion:

Bottom line

The Samsung Galaxy S7 edge has turned out to be an almost uncompromising flagship at the moment, which has everything (or almost everything). The company found optimal size screen, improved most of the design flaws. All I left was the dirty rear window. The smartphone has added features that last year's flagships lacked: a slot for memory cards and dust and moisture protection according to the IP68 standard. Already traditional for the company's flagships, the smartphone is one of the most powerful on the market and is equipped with one of the most quality cameras. In addition to this, it also works for a decent amount of time on a single charge. Of course, the price tag turned out to be very impressive, but when compared with Apple products, it no longer seems so scary: it is comparable to the iPhone 6s (not 6s Plus) in the simplest 16 GB version. The only controversial issue remains the practical benefits of a curved display. Yes, it’s functionally more interesting, but it still falls short of the Killer feature.

7 reasons to buy Samsung Galaxy S7 edge:

  • chic design, materials and assembly;
  • top performance;
  • excellent screen;
  • long battery life;
  • one of best cameras On the market;
  • dust and moisture protection;
  • Fast and accurate fingerprint scanner.

2 reasons not to buy Samsung Galaxy S7 edge:

  • the price is not affordable for everyone;
  • the body is a collection of fingerprints.

In 2015 year Samsung made a breakthrough and radically changed the concept of creating smartphones. Then new unusual flagships entered the market - S6 and S6 Edge. The version with curved display edges became the most popular, so in the first months the developers did not have time to make up for the shortage of this model in store windows.

The following year, the manufacturer decided not to delay the release of a new phone, so the S7 and S7 Edge immediately appeared. This time the “couple” was more balanced, and therefore the “plus” version was not worth expecting.

At the time of the release of the Galaxy S7 Edge, this model became the most popular in the world. Pre-orders again showed buyer preference for curved screens. In addition, the new smartphone was able to fix problems with the display. Let's find out what else has changed in the phone.

Equipment

The new Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge, the pre-sale price of which was about 60 thousand rubles, comes in the usual configuration for the company. The box contains Charger with support for Fast Adaptive Charge and, accordingly, a USB cable. There are also instructions, a clip for the slot and headphones. This kit is quite sufficient for any user.

Appearance

Comparing with last year’s flagship S6 edge, it is noticeable that the new model’s display diagonal was immediately increased, so the Galaxy S7 Edge is no longer a smaller copy of its older brother, but a smartphone with the same dimensions.

At first glance, no external changes No. But still, the developers modified the sharp edge of the body and made it more curved. Now the smart phone has become more convenient to hold in your hand. Its dimensions have also increased slightly due to the new voluminous battery and durable finishing materials.

The main changes that affected the flagship's body are the return of the protective coating against water and dust. There is the familiar IP68 standard, which works stably without any errors. The phone is protected in every possible way from dust and especially water getting inside. It can stay for about half an hour at a depth of up to one meter.

I was also pleased that the body was rid of the already boring, ugly plugs. All connectors are protected by a special membrane. The new Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge, the price of which meets all expectations, has become a monopod. Now the battery can only be reached in service center. The cover of the smartphone is taped with a special protective tape, which allows you to immerse the phone in water.

Everything is in its place

Basically the design remains the same as before. Naturally, there are no frames around the screen. There is a speaker above the display, sensors on either side of it, and the company logo flaunts right there. A classic button is located under the screen.

On the back panel there is a main camera with LED flash. The logo was placed under it again. At the bottom end of the case there is a speaker, a microphone, a connector for a charger and a place for headphones. At the top end there is only a small hole for an additional microphone and a SIM card tray. On the right side there is a lock button, on the left there is a volume rocker.

Unusual design solution

The screen of the new flagship did not become a sensation, but still continued to delight customers. For the Galaxy S7 Edge, the price depends specifically on the rest of the smartphone is no different from its brother S7.

The display resolution has not changed, as in last year’s smartphone, Quad HD with a resolution of 2560x1440. The screen has been noticeably improved. We increased the overall brightness reserve. The matrix remained the same - juicy and rich it turned out to be of very high quality. The black color looks “charcoal”, the contrast is balanced, and the brightness is comfortable both at night and at midday in the sun.

In the settings, you can adjust the screen display if AMOLED seems too artificial to someone. There is a mode that allows you to adjust the color scheme to be closer to more realistic.

Energy costs

The press release featured special option Always On, which looks really good. It works as follows: when the user locks the device, the calendar, clock and some notifications are still displayed on the screen. That is, the phone is still partially active. The developers claimed that Always On only consumes 1% of charge per hour. In practice, it turned out that the function is quite expensive for the smartphone’s energy. If you turn it off, the phone will live 20-30% longer.

"Filling"

Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge, whose price fluctuates around 60 thousand rubles, has received a top version operating system- Android 6.0.1. It works in tandem with the already familiar TouchWiz. In this model, the option has been redesigned for the OS, so everything looks very harmonious and balanced.

Considering the cost of the device, it’s probably not worth saying that you can find some errors or lags in the system. There were no slowdowns, the OS “flies”. Thanks to the redesigned corporate shell, the menu is collected on one screen, which looks quite concise. IN separate folder they placed “Google applications” and, of course, branded software.

"Memorable" changes

Last year, the company decided to remove support for memory cards from all its flagships. Most likely, such changes occurred in pursuit of fashion. What followed was a series of mistakes. It was decided to release smartphones with 32, 64 and 128 GB. In practice, it turned out that to find latest version device is almost impossible. Naturally, such problems could not go unnoticed.

In 2016, microSD support was returned. The situation with internal memory remained the same for the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge. The price depends on the version of the device. The most expensive is the 64 GB model.

Considering that you can now put microSD in a smartphone, the 64 GB version has become less popular. By the way, the tray for memory cards and SIM cards is combined. The user can choose what he needs: two SIM cards or one, but paired with a memory card.

The new flagship also has more RAM - 4 GB. Naturally, this improvement affected the phone's performance.

Performance

The company changed its preferences and instead of the famous Qualcomm, there is an Exynos 8890 inside the smartphone. Fans were at first skeptical about replacing the processor, but, as various tests show, the device with 8 cores not only outperformed the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 820, but also had moderate power consumption.

Testing of the new Mali-T880 graphics chipset also showed stunning results. Compared to previous version, this one has become “faster” by as much as 80%.

Activity

The new Galaxy S7 Edge has acquired powerful battery at 3600 mAh. Its battery life shows excellent results considering its display size, performance and multitasking. The developer also took care of excellent optimization, which allows you to maintain the device’s charge for a long time.

Despite the newfangled Type-C connectors, Samsung did not move away from the proven microUSB. The kit includes a charger that allows you to charge your phone from 0 to 100% in just 100 minutes. There is also the possibility of wireless charging.

Pleasant trifles

At the time of the release of the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge, it could not be found in Svyaznoy. Which seriously upset fans, especially those who had been waiting for a new product with an amazing camera since the press release.

There's not much to say about the front. Its resolution is 5 megapixels, it copes well with its “selfie” function. Correcting the face, changing color and correcting its geometry have been added to the menu.

But the main surprise was the appearance of a 12 megapixel main camera. At first, this news shocked fans, because the previous Samsung model had as much as 16 megapixels. It turned out that a module from Sony IMX260 was developed specifically for the company. Its aperture ratio increased to 1.7, and the main “trick” was the change in pixel size to 1.4 microns. Thus, the developers increased not the number of pixels, but their size, which qualitatively affected the photographs.

conclusions

At the beginning of the year, the Galaxy S7 Edge became the highest quality and strongest smartphone. Outwardly, it has not changed much in comparison with the previous version, but many innovations have been placed inside it, which have significantly improved the performance of the device.

Beautiful design and quality of materials are the first thing that catches your eye. But behind the metal shell lies a huge number of features that make this smartphone the best on the market. Large 3600 mAh battery. High-quality camera module with increased pixel size. Switch to Exynos and an improved version of the graphics chipset.

After entering the market, for some reason the model never appeared in the Svyaznoy store. “Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge” can now be purchased at prices ranging from 40 to 70 thousand rubles. It can be ordered both in China at a low price, and purchased in an online store in any city and country.
