Motorola Moto G6 Plus smartphone test and review: the giant of the G6 series. Motorola Moto G6 Plus smartphone test and review: G6-series giant Moto G6 review: specifications

This smartphone in a spectacularly curved glass case with a water-repellent coating boasts a solid screen, a good duo of main cameras, a separate slot for a microSD memory card, and a proprietary fast charging. At the same time, the operating system is Android 8.0 (Oreo) without any shells. Vesti.Hi-tech found out all the advantages and disadvantages of the Lenovo Moto G6.

This spring, Lenovo took care of replenishing the budget lines under the Motorola brand. Meanwhile, before Russian market got there - Moto G6, Moto E5 and Moto E5 Plus. All new items are equipped with Qualcomm Snapdragon chips, spacious screens, capacious batteries and spiced with the Android 8.0 Oreo operating system, coupled with proprietary Moto functions. The first one we chose for review was the Moto G6, which the company promotes under the slogan "created to impress". Note that this device has a premium appearance that clearly contrasts with the budget filling and affordable price.

Moto G6 review: design, ergonomics

The premium exterior of Moto G6 owes much to the curved-streamlined contour of the glossy back panel made of impact-resistant Corning Gorilla Glass 3. The same material was chosen to protect the screen, but with a 2.5D effect, which imitates the smooth "flowing" of glass onto a curly metal frame connecting the halves of the smartphone together. Earlier, perhaps, only flagship devices could afford such an appearance. Recall that, for example, the predecessor - (our review) was all-metal.

Since the glass is not only easily soiled, but also slippery material, the silicone clip case, which reliably masks the charm of the glittering back panel, in the kit with the Moto G6 no longer causes much surprise.

At the time of testing, there was only one color of the body - blue, more precisely, "deep indigo". The p2i water-repellent coating is designed to create a barrier that prevents water droplets from entering the device. Thanks to the new screen form factor (18: 9), the width of the 5.7-inch Moto G6 is almost a millimeter less than the 5.2-inch - 72.3 mm versus 73.5 mm.

The Moto G6's screen, protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3, is left without the now fashionable "bangs".

The long cutout of the decorative grille of the single speaker is surrounded by a front-facing camera, LED flash, and proximity and light sensors.

On-screen buttons ("Back", "Home" and "Recent Applications") are made in the form of icons "triangle", "circle" and "square". Having abandoned the control panel, they can be replaced with gestures (using Moto apps). On the "chin" under the screen there was an inscription Motorola, under which there was a place for a fingerprint scanner in the form of an elongated oval. A hole for a "spoken" microphone was placed to the right of it.

The volume rocker, as well as the (smaller) on / off button with embossed notches, are located on the right edge. The left edge of the Moto G6 was left blank.

The USB Type-C connector at the bottom end up with a 3.5mm audio headset connector.

The upper end was occupied with a hole for the second microphone, as well as a locked slot, the key from which is included in the kit with the smartphone. On the tray, in addition to two places allocated for subscriber identification modules (nanoSIM format), one more was specially allocated for a microSD memory card.

The curved back panel is adorned with the brand's Moto logo. The hole for the third microphone is almost at the bottom.

A round rear photo-module noticeably protruding above its surface, where two lenses are horizontally located, and an oval LED flash under them, is very reminiscent of a funny face or a smiley.

The dimensions of the Moto G6 allow you to operate it with one hand, even without additional options. True, it is more convenient to work with a fingerprint scanner on the front panel, helping yourself with the other hand.

Moto G6 review: screen

Smartphone Moto G6 got a "tall" 5.7-inch screen with an aspect ratio of 18: 9 and Full resolution HD + (2160x1080 pixels), while the pixel density per inch is approximately 424 ppi. The IPS-matrix used is characterized not only by wide viewing angles, but also by good color reproduction, as well as good contrast and brightness.

On the capacitive touch screen, AntTuTu Tester and MultiTouch Tester were able to recognize ten simultaneous clicks. The backlight level can be adjusted manually or automatically ("Auto Brightness" option). The minimum screen backlight allows you to read comfortably in the dark, and at maximum brightness, the image can be viewed even in sunlight.

In addition, there are two color display modes in the settings - "Normal" and "Vivid", which allow you to choose an appropriate gamut between calmer and more vibrant shades. Here the color temperature is independently regulated. The sizes of the font and interface elements can be estimated by preview. Additional functions screens are available in the Moto Display tab of the Moto app.

2.5D Gorilla Glass 3 protects the screen from damage, and the applied oleophobic coating helps to remove small dirt.

Moto G6 review: cameras

In the duet of the rear photo module Moto G6, the main camera with a 12-megapixel sensor and an aperture of a fast lens (f / 1.8) with autofocus is responsible for the shooting itself, and the 5-megapixel auxiliary camera is used to measure the depth of field, which is in demand, in particular, when shooting portraits. The maximum image resolution for the rear photo module, which also includes an LED flash, is 4096x3072 pixels (12 MP) with an aspect ratio of 4: 3.

The front camera, based on an 8-megapixel sensor, has a wide-angle (viewing angle of 80 degrees) fixed focus lens with an aperture of f / 2.2. The LED flash of this photo module can work in backlight mode. For fans of "crossbows" in the settings provided options for manual and automatic "beautification". The limiting resolution of self-portraits is 3264x2448 pixels (8 MP, 4: 3).

Both photo modules can record videos with Full HD quality (1920 x 1080 pixels) and a frame rate of 30 fps. At the same time, the Full option was added to the rear camera [email protected] fps, however, in this case, electronic stabilization no longer works. Among additional modes includes interval (4x, 8x, 16x, 32x) and slow motion (1280x720 pixels). All content is saved in MP4 container files (AVC - video, AAC - sound).

In the "Camera" application, the transition between the main modes ("Photo and Video"), as well as the screen of additional modes and settings, is performed by horizontal swipes. "Text scanner" recognized only the inscriptions in the Latin alphabet and refused to work with the Cyrillic alphabet. "Face filters" add mustache cat ears, fancy spectacle frames, and other fun stuff to the image. Some modes use depth-of-field information provided by the auxiliary camera.

So, in portrait mode, the degree of background blur can be adjusted independently. But the cropping mode tries to separate the object from the background in order, for example, to superimpose it then on another image. In turn, the "spot color" mode is able to capture only a certain color of the spectrum, leaving the rest of the photo in black and white. At the same time, the slider allows you to manually adjust the desired shade. Both photo modules have an Auto HDR option

Interestingly, access to manual settings("Manual") is performed directly from the viewfinder, not from the advanced mode panel. Here, on the "orbital" scales, the values of ISO sensitivity (100-3 200), shutter speed (maximum - 1/4 second), exposure level (from -2 to +2), a preset for white balance are selected, and the focus is also adjusted. The image is scaled (1x-8x) by moving your finger up or down the display. In the "Auto" mode, after selecting the focus point on the viewfinder (which can be blocked with a tap and hold), it is proposed to determine the brightness of the image (exposure level). By activating the "Quick Shot" option and turning your wrist twice with your smartphone, you can open the "Camera" application or switch from the main to the front camera (and vice versa).

The icon at the bottom left of the viewfinder allows you to launch, which, relying on the artificial intelligence system, helps to determine what exactly is in the camera lens.

Test shooting on Moto G6 left quite good impressions, especially in sunny weather, although sometimes for some reason the autofocus was "dull". Examples of pictures from the rear photo module can be viewed.

Moto G6 review: sound

This speaker has good sound quality even at maximum volume. At the same time, the Dolby Audio application is provided as an "enhancer", some functions of which (for example, surround sound) require, for obvious reasons, the presence of headphones. In addition to choosing a preset, there is the ability to customize a 10-band graphic equalizer.

The default audio player in the Moto G6 is " Play Music". But the pre-installed application" FM-radio ", thanks to the presence of the RDS-tuner, is able not only to display the related information transmitted by radio stations, but also to record stereo broadcasts in AAC format(44.1 kHz, 2 channels). As shortwave antenna wired headphones (headset) must be used. However, you can listen to programs through the speaker.

Moto G6 review: stuffing, performance

The Moto G6 is equipped with a 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 (SDM450) processor designed for use in mobile devices ah entry-level. At the same time, in tandem with 8 ARM Cortex-A53 cores, clocked at up to 1.8 GHz, the improved graphics accelerator Adreno 506 (API Vulkan and DirectX 12) works. For communication with mobile internet X9 LTE modem is designed using carrier aggregation (2x20 MHz), which can provide data transfer rates up to 300/150 Mbit / s (Cat. 7 / Cat. 13), respectively. Other features include built-in support for FHD + (18: 9) screens, 24 MP @ 24 fps cameras, Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 fast charging. Volume random access memory LPDDR3 type in the basic configuration is 3 GB.

Testing Moto G6. Results in the AnTuTu benchmark

Testing Moto G6. Results in the benchmark GeekBench

Already judging by the description of the filling, the smartphone is a non-gaming one. The results of the main tests only confirm this.

Up to 32GB of onboard storage can be expanded by using microSD / HC / XC cards up to and including 128GB. Recall that this smartphone has a separate slot for expanding memory. Support for USB-OTG technology ensures the connection of conventional flash drives.

Two subscriber identification modules (nanoSIM format) alternately use one radio channel (Dual SIM Dual Standby, DSDS). In 4G networks (Cat.4, 150/50 Mbit / s), among others, FDD-LTE frequency bands are available - b3 (1800 MHz), b7 (2600) and b20 (800 MHz). Wireless communications include Wi-Fi 802.11 a / b / g / n / ac (5 GHz + 2.4 GHz), Bluetooth 4.2 and NFC.

NFC interface opens access to contactless payment Google system Pay (G Pay). In addition, with the help of the Moscow Transport Cards application, it is easy to find out the balance of not only the Moscow Troika, but also the Moscow Region Strelka.

The satellites of the GPS and GLONASS constellations can be used to determine the location and navigation. A-GPS technology is also supported.

Moto G6 review: autonomy

The capacity of the Moto G6's non-removable battery has not changed at all in comparison with, for example, and is 3,000 mAh. The new smartphone also comes with a 15-watt Charger Supports TurboPower 5V (3A), 9V (1.6A) and 12V (1.2A) fast charging technology. Thanks to this, in half an hour the battery is filled by about 40%, and it will take less than an hour and a half to fill it "under the neck".

The AnTuTu Tester program rated the energy efficiency of the smartphone at 9,919 points. A set of videos in MP4 format (hardware decoding) and Full HD quality at full brightness spun continuously for about 6.5 hours. The result is, of course, not impressive.

Available to the user basic functions energy saving. So, for example, you can enable the "Auto Brightness" option and select the optimal timeout for switching to sleep mode. In addition, it is proposed to activate the automatic transition to the power saving mode at the appropriate battery level (5% or 15%).

Moto G6 Review: Software Features

The Moto G6 smartphone runs Android 8.0.0 (Oreo) operating system without any frills on top of its interface. The notification panel is called up by swiping down from the top edge of the screen, and the application screen, on the contrary, by swiping up from the bottom edge. Pressing and holding on the program icon leads to the appearance of an access menu (if supported) to frequently used functions.

In the home screen settings, you can easily change the grid of icons, decide on the color of the theme, allow the notification symbol on application icons, etc.

Like other devices in the family, for example, new smartphone Supports functions from the Moto Experiences software suite (Moto app). In the section of the same name, suggestions may appear regarding, for example, activating the so-called "night" mode (allows you to set warmer screen tones for the evening), or advice on removing unused applications and similar photos, or recommendations on extending the battery life of your smartphone, etc. NS.

The Moto features section contains options for control gestures, display settings and voice commands... So, for example, for navigation instead of on-screen buttons, you can use the capacitive pad of the fingerprint scanner. Or, without touching the locked screen, find out current time, date, day of the week, battery charge, and notifications. In turn, the Moto Key function is designed to secure access to websites, applications and devices using a fingerprint.

To quickly unlock the smartphone, it is proposed to register your face (for face control) and up to five fingerprints. The manufacturer warns on duty that biometric security is less reliable than a password, PIN or pattern.

With the experimental System UI Tuner, you can tweak Do Not Disturb and understand the status bar icons.

Lenovo Moto G6 review: purchase, conclusions

Thanks to the spectacular "glass" design, the new smartphone will surely attract the attention of not only Motorola fans. In addition, the Moto G6 boasts a high-quality screen, a duo of main cameras, a separate microSD card slot and TurboPower fast charging. At the same time, the hardware is flavored with "pure" Android 8.0 (Oreo) OS, coupled with proprietary Moto functions.

However, a beautiful case without a clip case turns out to be rather slippery, the smartphone's processor is not distinguished by high performance, and even the time autonomous work small.

At the time of testing, in the Lenovo branded online store for Moto G6 they asked 14 150 rubles. It is worth noting that there are quite a few other interesting offers on the market in this price range. So, for 13,990 rubles you could buy, for example, (our review) or (our review). Both of these smartphones received "tall" screens with an increased (compared to Moto G6) up to 6 inches diagonal and Full HD + resolution, more powerful processors(Qualcomm Snapdragon 636) and high-capacity batteries (5000 mAh and 4000 mAh, respectively). True, these devices are made in less spectacular, metal cases... At the same time, y is missing high frequency range Wi-Fi (5GHz) and not very fast charging, and it lacks an NFC interface and a dedicated microSD card slot. In addition, the Android interface is replaced by the proprietary MIUI launcher.

Motorola Moto G6 Plus test: chic giant

Motorola Moto G6 Plus, like the smaller Moto G6, is made in black and clothed in Gorilla Glas 3. With its large display in the modern 18: 9 format, it should not be ashamed of its appearance in front of top-end devices. Despite the large display area, the device still fits well in the hand.

However, users with small hands may find it difficult to wrap their fingers around the smartphone and may not be as comfortable to operate the device. The workmanship is good, but there is still a noticeable thin joint between the frame and the back. The corners of the body are nicely rounded.

Without the transparent silicone case, which Motorola will kindly include with the purchase of the Moto G6 Plus, the back of the case will have an unusual protrusion dual camera... It is also a shame that the device is not waterproof.

In spite of big size screen, the Moto G6 Plus is still good in the hand

Motorola Moto G6 Plus: bright 5.9-inch display

The Moto G6 Plus, unlike many trend-following models, has no notch at the top edge of the display. But the lower part of the frame turns out to be a little wider, since a thin fingerprint scanner is located here, which reacts quickly to touch. The side frames are also slightly wider than those of other such models, for example, the Huawei P20, but in the case of the G6 Plus, this hinders us just as little as in the G6. By the way: if you don't want to unlock the G6 Plus with your finger, you can also use the face recognition function - it also reacts reliably and quickly.

The 5.9-inch LC display offers a very large display area, displaying content in great detail with a resolution of 1080 x 2160 pixels. Plus, it offers powerful colors and contrast, and shines at a remarkable 590 cd / m2 without ambient light. In sunlight, the content remains well readable.

It's a shame that Motorola continues to ditch the status LED for notifications in the G6 line. In this case, the device shows information on the screen and in the Stand-by mode. For this, a gesture (even without touching the display) above the device is enough.

Fast navigation through the fingerprint scanner

Those who want to get even more space on the G6 Plus screen, as in the case of the Moto G5 Plus, can activate the "one-button navigation" mode via the Moto-App, and thus use the fingerprint scanner to control the smartphone instead of the on-screen navigation buttons finger.

Touching it in this case replaces pressing the "Home" button, a swipe from the side opens the application manager or forces the system to take one step back. Practical use this function is learned quickly.

It is also possible to launch several more functions, such as a quick screenshot (tap with three fingers), rotation to activate the "do not interfere" mode, or swipes to the left or right at the bottom to reduce the working area of the screen. This makes it much easier to operate your smartphone with one hand. But at the same time, it is annoying that the picture on the screen cannot be returned to normal mode with the same simple swipe. This can only be done via the deactivation button in the Moto-App settings menu.

Moto G6 Plus: mediocre camera

The dual camera on the back of the Moto G6 Plus hasn't changed, let alone improved, compared to the G6 or even its predecessor. The main camera has a resolution of 12 megapixels and has a really aperture of f / 1.7.

The pictures produced by the camera are normal, but not good. In some, though not all, images, the bottom region is fuzzy. The camera has difficulty focusing quickly, sometimes it takes more than a second before the shutter is released. Fine structures such as hair and yarn are also partly noisy and difficult to distinguish. At low ambient light levels, images become watercolor-like and appear very "softened". Sharpness is not enough, textures are almost indistinguishable. At the same time, the texts look quite clear.

The optional 5MP front camera captures compelling portraits that can be applied with “augmented reality” filters familiar to everyone from Snapchat, for example. With Auto Portrait Enhancement, users can correct wrinkles and other “disturbing factors” in their portraits.

Moto G6 Plus test: powerful processor

The G6 Plus's 3200mAh battery is exactly the same dimensions as the Moto G6. But the battery life during testing with the display activated was only about half an hour: 8 hours 58 minutes was recorded by our watch - this is a decent figure considering the screen area.

More hardy smartphones that can work in this mode for up to 13 hours can be found in our. While the Moto G6 managed to achieve a very short charging time of 96 minutes, the G6 Plus took about 20 minutes longer to replenish the battery's energy reserves. Nevertheless, this charging time can still be considered good.

On the processor side, the Moto G6 Plus allows itself to relax a bit. However, the Snapdragon 630, although it does not provide the highest performance similar to that coming from the most powerful on this moment 845 found in devices like the OnePlus 6, but in all day-to-day usage scenarios, the system runs smoothly and large apps and websites launch pleasantly quickly.

64 GB of built-in and 4 GB of RAM for this price segment- this is more than decent. Whoever takes a lot of photos and videos can also use a Micro-SD memory card. Especially practical: in the Moto G6 Plus, two SIM cards and a memory card can find a place for themselves at the same time. Many other Dual-SIM smartphones have a so-called hybrid slot, that is, the user has to choose what to use - a second SIM card or a memory card.

The manufacturer sets here the current operating system Android 8.0 (Oreo). Important security updates should be available every two to three months. The security patch at the time of testing (mid-June) was dated April 1, 2018. The G6 Plus should get the update before Android version 9, but whether he will receive support after that, it remains only to wait.

Test results Motorola Moto G6 Plus

Alternative: Honor 10

Although it costs a little more (about 25,000 rubles), it offers a chic design and decent photo quality. Moreover, it has a faster processor.

The design and performance are great, and the dual camera has the functions it is responsible for. artificial intelligence, takes decent photos. Solid, though not phenomenal, is the battery life.

The Aprilia Moto 6.5 motorcycle was produced between 1995 and 1997, after which there was a two-year hiatus, and then the bike was re-produced from 1999 to 2002. Aprilia Moto 6.5 features a unique design, which was developed by the great Philippe Starck. In fact, this is the only trump card of this bike, namely the uniqueness in appearance.

The Aprilia Moto 6.5 is powered by a single-cylinder 649cc five-valve engine. The same engine was used on the Aprilia Pegaso 650. The maximum power is 42 hp, while the maximum torque is 52 Nm. On the freeways, Aprilia Moto 6.5 does not feel very comfortable due to the specifics of the engine, ergonomics and gearbox.

The Aprilia Moto 6.5 was designed primarily as a city bike. For starters, it has dexterous handling and a narrow saddle that is not very comfortable for long journeys. According to experts, the quality of the motorcycle is far from ideal, the parts are made with a low margin of safety, the finish is low. Aprilia Moto 6.5 is not only prone to corrosion, some parts can simply break. According to experts, the motorcycle hardly gets a C, and in terms of "equipment" and "quality" a two.

MOTO G6: RELEASE DATE

And there we will seeMotoG6?

It looks like we'll see the Moto G6 (and possibly the Moto G6 Plus and Moto G6 Play) on April 19, as Motorola started sending out invitations to the event that day in Brazil.

Motorola doesn't name the Moto G6 in the invitation, but it's hard to go wrong what else Motorola has to offer in this release window, and the green in the invitation looks just like the Moto G6 Plus home screen in the recent leak.

MOTOG6: PRICE

Earlier it was reported that the Motorola Moto G6 will sell for $ 240 (14,500 rubles), while the Moto G6 Plus will cost users $ 330 (20,000 rubles).

The new phones could get cheaper than previous iterations of the G series, so we'd be surprised if the final price tag of the Moto G6 really gets that low. It's not enough to just cross your fingers.

MOTOG6: DESIGN AND DISPLAY

Do you remember Moto X? The Moto G6 series will likely differ from the G5 in terms of design, including integrating some solutions that will remind you of the old Moto X.

The trio of new Moto G6 phones are promising 18: 9 screens, continuing a popular trend in the mobile market for an elongated screen.

Leaks suggest the entry-level Moto G6 Play will have a 5.7-inch 720p screen (and 4000mAh battery), while the Moto G6 will sport a 5.7-inch FHD + screen. In addition to the known information, an 18: 9 screen for the G6 Play is also listed, and none of the phones will be waterproof.

Meanwhile, the Moto G6 Plus can be equipped with a 5.93-inch FHD + display. The characteristics are repeated many times in various leaks and are confirmed by an early listing on Amazon.

The most detailed images we've seen so far with the Moto G6, Moto G6 Plus and MotoG6 Play come officially from Motorola, showcasing almost every angle of the phone.

We've posted a collection of snapshots in the gallery below, but each snapshot was posted by Twitter user Ishan Agarwal. We haven't yet found out where he gets the photos from, so he'll treat them with a pinch of salt until we wait for the official release.

The images seemingly confirm that the fingerprint scanner will be under the screen on every smartphone except the Moto G6 Play, which has it on the back. You can also see the strong influence of the Moto X on the shots of the new smartphone.

Long before we saw the pictures above, we saw a couple of other pictures on the website of the Chinese standardizing body where the smartphone was presented from the front and back, it looks like the Moto G6.

The source claims the Moto G6 Plus will have an 18: 9 aspect ratio and a fingerprint scanner underneath, throwing firewood on rumors of a big screen.

We also got some insight into the new Moto G6 Play after a series of images confirmed that the smartphone was uploaded to Trendy Techz.

In slightly blurry shots, the G6 Play can recognize the fingerprint scanner on the back and only one camera there.

The leaked photos of the Moto G6 Play line up with detailed documents posted by Compare Raja, the well-known @OnLeaks label.

These images also point to a single camera and fingerprint scanner on the back of the G6 - while the front remains on the screen and bezel.

The Moto G6 and G6 Plus may come in different colors, if leaked Android Headlines images are to be believed indicating white, silver, gold, blue, and cyan.

Plus we may have seen the final Moto G6 design again, thanks to some leaks found by the Killer Features site. The pictures showed the device with a front-facing fingerprint scanner and a dual lens on the back.

Multicolor Mogo G6?

Case maker Olixar seems to have shed some light on the new smartphones with a number of images that appear to showcase the Moto G6 in several different cases.

However, the single camera on the back doesn't match up with previous leaks related to the new phone, which means that the smartphone you see below could be the Moto G6 Play.

There are also some shots that call for the Moto G6 Plus, which you can see at the end of the gallery below.

Convincing look at Moto G6 or G6 Play (Olixar).

MOTOG6: PERFORMANCE AND BATTERY

The new Moto G6 is rumored to be powered by Snapdragon 450 chipsets with 3GB or 4GB of RAM. The amount of local memory promises to be 32 GB, or 64 GB, and the battery capacity is only 3000 mAh. The Moto G6 Play is rumored to be the youngest in the lineup, equipped with a 1.4GHz quad-core Snapdragon 427 chipset and more powerful battery at 4000 mAh.

However, the Moto G6 Plus is said to be powered by the Snapdragon 630 SoC, available with 3GB / 4GB / 6GB RAM. But then again, the memory can be either 32GB or 64GB. These characteristics were cited more often than others.

All three smartphones are about to offer Android Nougat out of the box, which might disappoint some as Android Oreo has been on the market for a long time, the release of Android P is approaching.

We also got some insight into characteristics of Moto G6 Plus after Twitter developer @HeyAndri posted the following tweet.

The above specifications are perfectly compatible with previous rumors, but it is worth noting that if the smartphone gets a variant with 4 GB of RAM + 32 GB of local memory and 6 GB / 64 GB, we can only get one of them in Russia.
