Introduction

The site released a rather emotional first look at the new tablet from Samsung.

However, time has passed, I got acquainted with the device and now I am ready to give a review that claims to be objective.

To begin with, the tablet market as a whole has been declining for 15 consecutive quarters. For example, in the first quarter of 2018, the "drawdown" was 11.7%, and in the second - already 13.5%.

In 2018, Samsung is doing the worst in this aspect. According to IDC, in Q1, year-on-year, the company underdelivered 700,000 tablets, or 11.5% less, which is generally in line with the market; %.

The worst case of the companies included in the TOP-5, things are with Amazon. Year on year in the 1st quarter the decrease was by 50%, in the second - by 33%.

Apple shipments are stable - there are no drops, as well as growth.

Huawei is in the best position. The company is increasing deliveries by 13% in Q1 2018 compared to Q1 2017, and by 8% in Q2.

However, so far this does not affect the market position in any way, and the places in the TOP-5 are stable:

If you do segmentation, then tablets can be divided into two broad categories - just tablets and tablets with a keyboard. And if the first and most extensive category is constantly declining and dragging the market indicators along with it, then the second one is growing.

The life cycle length of tablet computers maximum. Consumers prefer to use the device until it fails or becomes obsolete (new versions of applications are not supported). The average life of a tablet is 3-5 years. This is usually determined by battery degradation. It is with a long time of use that you can associate a strong drop in Amazon. The company's "tablets" are designed primarily for the consumption of branded content - movies, books, purchases on the Amazon website. For these purposes, the device will be enough for a long time.

Huawei is building up its positions as it has occupied a mid-price niche, offering customers interesting solutions with stylus and keyboard support.

Apple's share, as I wrote above, is stable, but this is due to sales of the cheapest versions of the iPad. The average tablet price for Q3 2017 was $435, now (Q3 2018) it is $410. We can say that basic tablets from Apple (without stylus and keyboards) are the standard on the market today.

In terms of positioning, Samsung decided to place its tablets in the segment of business devices.

Positioning

Samsung, relying on IDC data, believes that the tablet market with a keyboard will grow in double digits in the next couple of years, and this is quite enough to present its product versions and compete. In addition, this market segment cannot be called highly competitive, since in fact there are iPad Pro from Apple and tablets from Samsung. In the same but lower price segment Huawei is trying its hand.

Apple, by introducing its updated basic tablet with support for third-party styluses in the spring, is pulling the average price on the market down.

Samsung claims that the Galaxy Tab S4 will be useful to office workers, most of whose working day is spent within the software from Microsoft. With this I can agree. A tablet with a keyboard, especially in DeX mode, when you can work with windows and drag and drop files, is quite enough for everyday activities that do not require large amounts of data entry. If you connect an external monitor and a full keyboard, then the tablet can replace the computer. Another question is how justified are such combinations?

The second target category is creative people who love to draw. The Tab S4 has a great screen, and it comes with a quality stylus that has minimal parallax, which is the difference between where the stylus touches and where it appears on the screen. The S Pen has 4096 levels of sensitivity, which allows you to draw, stroke, in short, work with the stylus as with a regular pencil. I believe that here the device also acts as an auxiliary device, since professionals still prefer a different technique. For work on the road and for amateurs just right.

Price and competitors

The cost of the tablet at the start is 52,990 rubles. By pre-ordering, you can get a keyboard case as a gift. Separately, it costs 8,990 rubles. The cover is good. Better version from Huawei, as it has a rigid fold that allows you to work by placing the tablet in a case on your knees and without fear that it will roll over.

Curiously, compared to last year, the starting price has decreased. The Tab S3 started at 59,990 rubles for the LTE version, and the Wi-Fi-only option was priced at 49,990 rubles. I believe that if Samsung presented, in addition to the LTE version, only the Wi-Fi version for a conditional 45 thousand rubles, then it would completely outplay Huawei. However, the Wi-Fi version, as I understand it, does not fit into the strategy of a business device, which is required to provide powerful functionality and maximum comfort. Yes, and so-so of you a businessman, if you are in a fast food chain for free internet ride.

The main competitors of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 are Apple's iPad Pro 10.5, Huawei MediaPad M5 Pro and Samsung Galaxy Tab S3.

iPad Pro 10.5

Price - 46,990 rubles + stylus 6,990 rubles = 53,980 rubles.

Keyboard - 11,490 rubles.

Apple's solution may be more profitable if you absolutely do not need a stylus, and iOS is also suitable for you. By technical specifications there is plus or minus parity in terms of user experience. Although Apple's tablet has been on the market for a long time and an update will probably be released in the near future.

Huawei mediapad M5 Pro

Price - from 42 990 + the stylus is included.

Here the Android OS, also has LTE.

In terms of technical characteristics, there is parity. Feels like Huawei is perceived easier than Samsung. Everything seems to be the same, but not the same. The stylus works well, if not compared with Apple or Samsung. Actually, you can go through many parameters in this way. However, on the gray market, the price is quite attractive. Yesterday there was a mix about presentations. I visited the flagship Huawei store, where all the tablets are available. I recommend visiting and making your own impression. On the way from the Tverskaya metro station to the store, there is a Samsung salon, so you can go there first, and after 300 meters - to Huawei. And while the impressions of the Galaxy Tab are fresh, you will understand what I meant.

Samsung Galaxy Tab S3

From afar, the tablets are not too different from each other. Up close, you can see that the Tab S4 has become sleeker and more elegant in terms of design. Also, the Tab S3 has a 9.7 screen, while the S4 has a 10.5 screen.

It is also immediately noticeable that the new version no longer has a fingerprint scanner. More screen and its resolution (was 1536 x 2048 pixels and a ratio of 4:3, it became 1600 x 2560 pixels, a ratio of 16:10), thinner than the frame and edge. I wrote about the edges and climbed to check the characteristics. It turned out that the thickness of Tab S3 is 6 mm, and S4 is 7.1 mm. However, visually it seems that the opposite is true. The secret is that Samsung made rounded bevelled edges.

Otherwise, the devices are quite similar in appearance. The improvements are significant, but in general evolutionary: a new version of the chipset (835 for the new versus Snapdragon 820 for the S3), front-camera not 5 MP, but 8 MP, tweaked the sound, but it's still 4 speakers from AKG, the screen has become better, and it has more settings. Also improved ergonomics and user experience when working with a stylus. All these and many other improvements are striking in a direct comparison of gadgets when they are side by side.

The price of Tab S3 starts from 34 thousand rubles for Wi-Fi, LTE - already 44 thousand rubles. On the gray market, prices are much more interesting. I suppose if you want to save money, then perhaps this will be for you the best option than even the MediaPad.

As a conclusion, if you need an Android tablet and there are no budget restrictions, then the Tab S4 is optimal, otherwise you should consider Tab S3 first, then Huawei. If you need iOS, then you have no options.

Separately, I emphasize that Samsung has a DeX mode that turns a tablet into a complete analogue of a laptop and significantly changes the user experience. Neither Apple nor Huawei has such solutions. This, to some extent, makes Samsung's solution unique.

Appearance

Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 is a combination of aluminum and glass represented by Corning Gorilla Glass 5. There is no official confirmation of the manufacturer and glass version, so I am guided in this matter by the materials in Tab S3.

Glass means fingerprints. A metal back would have been more utilitarian, but, for my taste, less pretty.

In a review of the Tab S3, the chief complained that Samsung couldn't paint metal and recommended an unpainted silver version. I carried the tablet in my backpack, as the case was taken away from me. Several times a bunch of keys to the apartment dangled nearby. There are no scratches on the screen and aluminum. Although, I’m probably not an indicator: any equipment I have is always in perfect condition. I must say right away that I don’t shake over it, but I just think where I put it.

On the right side of the tablet are the power button, a paired volume button, and below it is a slot for a nano SIM card and a microSD card.

On the left side there are only connectors for the keyboard.

At the bottom there are 2 speakers, USB Type-C and a 3.5 mm jack.

On the top there are also 2 speakers and a microphone.

On the back, covered with glass, there are your fingerprints, a 13 MP camera lens, the Samsung inscription and the signature that the sound is "pumped" by AKG. On the test, I had an engineering sample with working stickers and covered with a protective film. I didn’t manage to peel off the stickers, Samsung, in addition to tablets, also produces glue, so I decided not to bother and didn’t touch the film either.

Above the screen is an 8MP front camera and an iris scanner.

At the ends of the device there are 4 speakers, which AKG specialists have worked on.

For a tablet, the sound is very good - bright, powerful and juicy. Dolby Atmos certified. But in order to enjoy such sound when watching movies to the fullest, I had to go to torrents, since not a single streaming service and video content store sells movies with such sound, and you can’t put a disc in a tablet. So, by the way, I found out that the tablet handles video files weighing 13-15 GB well. If you want to evaluate the sound in the store, there are official demos from Dolby on YouTube.

Screen and stylus

This is a top Super AMOLED screen. In fact, you can stop there, since the majority already have their own ideas about beauty.

For the rest I will tell the obvious things. The screen is good, bright, juicy. For customization, there are both ready-made presets, and you can configure it yourself. This was not the case with the previous tablet.

When reviewing a previous generation tablet, Eldar was unhappy that the screen was not as clear as the iPad Pro. The Galaxy Tab S4 fixed this issue.

Screen angles are excellent.

According to Samsung, the stylus has undergone significant refinement and improvements, both in terms of operation and ergonomics.

It is convenient to work with him. It looks like you are holding a ballpoint pen. The stylus allows you to both write by hand and draw, and depending on the pressing force, you can receive both light strokes and bold strokes.

Here it is necessary, of course, to pay tribute to the software. For example, Samsung has done a great job with Samsung Notes. It allows you to print, write with a stylus, and also has enough powerful drawing capabilities.

I liked the third-party editor Autodesk better. It is free, its capabilities are much wider, but I think there is no need to talk about it, since the application is widely known.

An interesting feature is drawing gifs, which can then be sent by mail or in a messenger. Previously, paper letters evoked warm feelings, but now it’s self-drawn GIFs. And here and there the principle that efforts are made applies.

All the features of the Galaxy Note 9 stylus have also moved to the Galaxy Tab S4. The stylus can be used to open context menu, which allows you to create a note, take a screenshot of both the entire screen and part of it. You can take a screenshot and recognize text from it or automatically translate a foreign language.

You can also take notes when the screen is off. To do this, you need to bring the stylus to the screen, press the button, and then you can make notes. A very convenient option in situations where, for example, you urgently need to write down a phone number or make another note.

In general, the entire tablet is optimized to work with the S-Pen. With a stylus, it is convenient to swipe across the screen, it is easier for them to type and edit text. In many programs, you can write by hand, and the tablet will then recognize the text.

Performance

The tablet runs on the 835th chipset, made using 10 nanometer technology. According to many (decisive and strict judges), the 835th turned into a pumpkin after the release of the 845th. In my opinion, nothing has changed and the power of the Snapdragon 835 is more than enough for the next few years. The strength of the 845 for me lies not so much in the increased performance, but in the AI embedded in the hardware level, which is engaged in resource optimization. Samsung AI has a blotch in the form of software.

Below are the test results, which will probably tell you a lot:

Asphalt 9 is out. A new benchmark in the mobile racing market. It is logical that the tablet copes with a bang. Samsung has a special game mode where you can turn off distracting notifications, as well as record your screen and your face during gameplay.

PUBG is great to play on a big screen with high graphics settings.

DeX Mode

Thanks to Samsung's DeX mode, the tablet turns into a full-fledged mini-computer. But if in smartphones Dex needs a special accessory, then in Tab S4 everything switches in a couple of touches.

The strength of Dex mode is that it offers a windowed interface more typical of laptops than smartphones or tablets.

Also, unlike smartphones, the tablet can open any program, as in full screen mode. Thanks to DeX, the tablet has a real convenient multitasking.

Another exclusive feature is the ability to connect the tablet via an adapter to external screen, to which to display the DeX interface, while the usual Android interface will remain on the tablet screen.

It is DeX that is the key advantage of the Tab S4 and, to some extent, the rationale for its cost, since competitors simply do not have anything like it.

Once again I emphasize for those who like to write in the comments that a stylus is not needed, a keyboard is also convenient, it is convenient to work on a laptop, this DeX does not replace anything, I’d rather buy an iPad, and in general I need a tablet to watch cartoons at home. If so, this device is not for you. For cartoons and bedside use, you should consider the basic options from Apple or Huawei, as they are cheaper. I hope that this issue has been sorted out and we will not see such nonsense in the comments.

Battery

The tablet has a 7300 mAh battery that supports fast charging. A full charge from scratch takes about 3 hours.

In my mind the time battery life- this is the strength of the gadget. If you turn on the video at maximum brightness and volume, you can get at least 13 hours of screen.

V everyday use Screen time is 10-12 hours. For example, here are the statistics of the first use. More than 10 hours. It should be borne in mind that I downloaded and installed various software in large volumes.

However, these indicators are not too different from the usual use of the device:

Camera

The cameras on the tablet have gotten better. However, my main complaint is that there is no stabilization here. The camera application here is traditional for all Samsung devices.

Here is an example of the front camera:

And here I worked on the image:

You can record timelapses:

Taking pictures at night on a tablet is not the best idea, but still it cannot be said that it turns out frankly bad.

The tablet is not intended for photography, and for photographing documents and videoconferencing, the camera capabilities are enough for the eyes.

Communications and Security

Only one will be sold in Russia Galaxy version Tab S4 - 64 GB + 4G LTE. And if the first problem is easy to solve with a microSD card, then those who wanted to save money by purchasing the Wi-Fi version were out of luck. With a SIM card, the tablet turns into a huge phone. You can send SMS and make calls. The downside is that you need a headset for calls, since the Tab S4 4 has very loud speakers, so you can only talk in speakerphone mode.

The fingerprint scanner is no longer on the tablet. Samsung has improved the eye scanning system by creating the so-called Smart-mode, when the device not only focuses on the iris, but also recognizes the face. In the settings, you can choose how the device will recognize you, but the face + iris combination works quickly. During the use of problems with unlocking the gadget, even in complete darkness, there were no problems. In sunglasses, the system, of course, will not recognize you.

Compared to the Tab S3, the Bluetooth version has been updated, now it's 5.0, Wi-Fi supports dual bands and the AC standard. The tablet can be used as a hotspot.

The tablet has GPS and GLONASS. Everything works perfectly. Probably optimal to use in the car, as on the street on the move to look at big screen not too convenient.

Impressions

The tablet is perceived as a flagship device with a good margin of performance for any task. When testing devices, I like to make them basic, so it's easier to understand all the pros and cons. For example, this 3,000-word review ended up being fully typed and edited on the road on a tablet. A video review will follow on YouTube. KineMaster has become the main application for video assembly. In my opinion, by the way, this is the best video editor for Android, apart from Premiere.

Compared to competitors, the Tab S4 benefits from a stylus with advanced features, from drawing to working with text. The second main advantage is DeX, which has no analogues. The mode allows you to turn the tablet into a computer.

Really, Samsung Tab S4 is designed for business users and creative people who can afford to buy a tablet. The cost is within the limits allowed for this category of devices.

The device has extensive features and potential, but it is not for everyone. Of course, you can buy it to read websites, play games and watch movies. A bright Super AMOLED screen and 4 speakers with Dolby Atmos support make this possible. Watching movies and playing on such a screen with such great sound is a real pleasure, but in my opinion it's too expensive for such simple needs.

I guess in the comments they might write that the tablet was supposed to have an 845th processor, and Apple will soon release a new iPad. About the processor, I partially agree, and not because it is not enough here, but it's just nice when the latest solutions are available. About the release of the new iPad, it makes absolutely no difference, since the iPad and Galaxy Tab S4 cannot be called direct competitors. One is a tablet with good screen and a stylus for drawing, which Apple positions as a device for creativity. The second is a business device, the stylus of which is sharpened not only for drawing, but also for working with data, and the tablet itself, thanks to DeX, is able to replace a laptop at the right time.

Conclusion

Samsung managed to make an interesting product, which is clearly focused on the business and creative audience, as the capabilities of the tablet are impressive. Of course, it is also suitable as a home device for browsing the Internet, but for such simple purposes it is better to buy something cheaper - an iPad from Apple or a Tab S3 from Samsung.

After Samsung revised the code names of its devices, the flagship models received the S index. Everyone knows the smartphones of this series, and not so long ago the company began to produce tablets. The first signs were the Samsung Galaxy Tab S devices, which received the best that the linker had at that time, and became a full-fledged competitor to the iPad.

One of the main competitors for the Apple iPad

Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 has become a continuation of the series. The tablet received an almost standard display, a powerful processor, modern and 4:3 screen format. Recent studies have shown that while in the past, users mostly watched movies, now they mostly read books and browse websites. This is what prompted the developer to create just such a format. So, we present to your attention a review of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 tablet.

Design

External samsung view The Galaxy Tab S2 has one recognizable feature that makes it impossible to confuse it with a device from another company: the physical buttons on the front. One of them is a mechanical home button with a built-in fingerprint sensor, and the other two are touch-sensitive. The rest of the tablet is similar to other models. Nevertheless, it's hard not to pay attention to the desire to inherit its main rival - the Apple iPad.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 is available in two screen sizes - 8 and 9.7 inches. As already mentioned, the aspect ratio is 4:3, since the tablet is primarily positioned for business use and for browsing. Samsung thought it would be better this way, because compared to previous years, the model for recycling such devices has changed, and fewer users view multimedia. And the new format adds 20% more space. By the way, the first tablet with such a screen was the Galaxy Tab A (read it).

In addition to the buttons that are located on the narrow part of the tablet, on the front surface there is a camera and a brightness adjustment sensor. The display of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 is framed by narrow frames, and in the 8-inch model they are somewhat narrower, which makes the device more similar to smartphones. Around the display is a metal frame that gives the tablet a serious look. And at the back, it goes into plastic. Rear part covered with soft-touch plastic and has . On it is located rear camera, which protrudes above the body, the Samsung inscription and a kind of button for a branded case. All connectors are on the sides: on the right - the volume and lock / power buttons, as well as two tightly closed slots for nano-SIM and microSD; top - microphone; and on the bottom are two stereo speakers, a headphone jack, and a microUSB port. The left side remained completely free. And the 8-inch modification of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 with the module cellular communication It has an additional speaker above the display and a microphone on the bottom, since you can call it like a regular phone.

The case itself is plastic and very thin, only 5.6 mm. This is the thinnest tablet in the world. Despite the thinness, the device is very durable and built to last. The parts are very tightly fitted to each other, and the body at times seems completely monolithic. By eliminating the use of metal, the weight is only about 390g for the 9.7-inch device and about 270g for the 8-inch. Therefore, without tension, you can work much longer.

Screen

In this component, Samsung outdid everyone, because samsung display The Galaxy Tab S2 is the best on the market. The SuperAMOLED matrix with a resolution of 2048 x 1536 and a pixel density of 320 ppi has the highest brightness and incredibly realistic colors, and the highest contrast helps to display all the smallest details. Indeed, the sRGB color gamut reached 100%, making viewing photos and watching videos very comfortable for the eyes.

With this permission, samsung screen Galaxy Tab S2 has no grain, it can be seen only when looking at the matrix under a magnifying glass. Even small letters are read clearly and smoothly. The viewing angles are the highest, so you can comfortably show some content even in a company. If you are not satisfied with the too bright colors of the matrix, it is possible to customize the screen profile. Four profiles are available: Main, AMOLED Movie, AMOLED Photo, and Reading Mode, as well as Adaptive Display, which automatically launches the correct profile based on content and usage conditions. You can select any profile manually. Each of them differs significantly in terms of color display, white balance and brightness.

About brightness. The standard performance of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 is about 375 cd / m 2 and depends on the number of light colors. But it is worth activating automatic regulation and going out into direct sunlight, as the brightness easily increases to 700 cd / m 2. Almost no one has such indicators. In combination with an anti-glare filter, the clarity of the picture and the readability of the screen remain at the highest level anyway.

On top of that, there is a coating against greasy stains, as well as a protective glass. Due to the small thickness, I had to put a thinner coating instead of Gorilla Glass 4. So over time, the screen is covered with small scratches, visible only in the light when the tablet is off. They do not affect the work in any way and do not spoil the overall pleasant impression. Indeed, the screen of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 is the best in quality, not only by the standards of tablets, but also by most smartphones.

Performance

Per Samsung job Galaxy Tab S2 meets the most powerful samsung processor The Exynos 5433, first used on the Galaxy Note 4, was way ahead of its time. It has a huge margin of power and performance, as the chipset, manufactured using 20 nm technology, has 4 cores at 1.9 GHz, more economical 4 cores at 1.3 GHz, a Mali-T760 MP6 video adapter and 3 GB of RAM. In addition, hardware has support for a special technology that allows you to use all 8 cores at the same time. The whole question is which applications will utilize this possibility. Maybe someone was waiting for a new generation processor, but you are unlikely to use the full resource of this.

Naturally, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 functions simply exceptionally, there is not even the slightest hint of slowdown. The menu just flies, the tablet easily reads video files with a resolution of 2K (3840 x 2160), opens documents, and allows you to play all modern games at maximum settings. Various performance tests show results on par with the best smartphones, although they do not always reach them. But its parameters are already enough for the most demanding user.

Multimedia features

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 easily plays the highest bitrate media files and supports many music and video formats. True, the standard player may not appeal to everyone. But you can download and install any from the application store.

Two speakers accurately reproduce all frequencies and have a good volume margin, so the sound quality is excellent. So you can watch videos in a noisy place. Unfortunately, the square format will force you to put up with black bars when watching modern movies on the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2, because most of them are recorded in 16:10 format. In headphones, audio sounds very voluminous and deep, music lovers will be happy. Although it is unlikely that anyone will buy such a tablet, focusing purely on sound quality.

Battery and operating time

The larger modification of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 is equipped with a 5870 mAh battery, and the smaller one is equipped with a 4000 mAh battery. This is a very good indicator for such a thin device. Moreover, power saving mode, screen technology and automatic brightness extend the run time up to 14 hours. Average performance with the included 3G-module - 7-8 hours of continuous operation. In turn, the numbers may differ from the frequency of use, such as wireless connection and its stability, screen operation profile, its brightness level, temperature environment. So each device may have different performance. Games, in general, are the most voracious energy absorbers, you can achieve a maximum of 7–7.5 hours at minimum brightness. But in general, a tablet is enough for a day, and when you turn it off mobile communications- and all two.

V Samsung settings Galaxy Tab S2 can activate a special power saving mode. He governs running processes, reduces processor power, disables wireless modules, and with maximum savings, generally makes the screen black and white. This useful feature will extend the viability of the device in hopeless moments.

Camera

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 is equipped with main camera 8 megapixels and an auxiliary 2.1 megapixels. They are not much different from those in the previous model. The only difference is the improved aperture, and therefore there is no flash. The auxiliary camera has a fixed focus and performs quite well. It also shows a good picture during video calls.

The main samsung camera The Galaxy Tab S2 doesn't show off anything super-outstanding, compared to many smartphones that are still way ahead of tablets. Improved aperture and f / 1.9 aperture do not compensate for the lack of a flash when shooting at night. Noise appears in the photo, white balance may go astray, autofocus may not work properly. During the day, the camera boasts good detail and sharpness. The white balance works correctly, the colors are not distorted, the camera focuses instantly. Its settings menu strongly resembles the settings of a smartphone of the same name series. In general, the camera of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 is not yet comparable to the phone, but is one of the best among tablets.

In the shop Samsung apps present interesting program 3D capture. With its help, you can create three-dimensional images. It is enough to launch the application and, following the instructions, slowly rotate the device around the object, then save. Only a few devices have this capability.

Operating system and programs

The Android 5.0.2 operating system with a traditional shell is installed on the device samsung touchwiz, which is almost completely identical to the telephone. The set of programs is almost like a bare Android, however, some branded applications are still present. Therefore, you do not have to clean the tablet from software garbage for a long time.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 system has a large number of settings, with several proprietary features. For example, a search engine for the device was added S Finder, which allows you to find the desired file, application or setting, or Smart Manager - a junk file cleaner and accelerator. It also has its own app store. Samsung Apps. Also pre-installed office Microsoft package Office Android for quick editing desired document on the run.

The fingerprint sensor built into the home button keeps your data safe. When using the feature for the first time, the setup wizard will ask you to put your finger on the sensor several times until the drawn fingerprint is filled. Up to 4 prints can be programmed. After that, recognition occurs instantly, just touch your finger at the sensor. You cannot set up multiple user profiles through the fingerprint scanner, but the device has such an option. This is very convenient if there is only one tablet for the whole family.

In a word, the system interface has been redesigned very cool. Samsung promises to release regular android updates, and Android 6.0 Marshmallow is expected to be released in the second quarter.

Competitors

Sony Xperia Z4 Tablet - installed Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor with Adreno 430 video chip; the device has best resolution front camera - 2.1 MP, widescreen 10.1-inch screen 2560 x 1600; the memory sizes are the same; The tablet is protected from dust and water.

Apple iPad Air 2 - lower screen pixel density (264 ppi), 2-core processor, front camera only 1.2 Megapixels.

Considering that Sony's tablet was released later, it's not surprising that its screen resolution is slightly higher. Although at the same time, one should not forget about the larger diagonal and wide format. iPad loses in almost all characteristics. We can safely say that the Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 is perhaps the best flagship device today.

Pros and cons

Summing up the review, we note the weak and strengths Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 devices.

  • Nearly perfect screen.
  • Outstanding performance.
  • High-quality assembly, body dimensions.
  • menu.
  • Fingerprint sensor.
  • Inconvenient screen format for watching movies.
  • There is no NFC module.
  • Overcharge.

Conclusion

Surely everyone will agree that Samsung succeeded in setting the tone for tablet fashion and a bar that many will strive to jump over. The price, however, is beyond the reach of many, but that's why it's a flagship. Its top-notch performance, top-quality screen and strong battery will please both gamers and those who buy a device for work.

Prices for Samsung tablets

Samsung is a South Korean giant, one of the largest manufacturers of digital equipment and consumer electronics. The range of products created by the company is wide and varied. In particular, it is the second supplier of tablets in the world. According to research by IDC, today 22% of users prefer to buy Samsung tablets, which means every 5th buyer. The company closely monitors market trends. The design of tablets from Samsung is usually stylish and concise. The thin body looks attractive in any environment, and a special impact-resistant glass protects the screen of the device from damage.

What to look for when choosing

When choosing a Samsung tablet, pay attention to the screen of the device. There are models with a diagonal of 6-11 inches on the market. The large display is convenient for gaming and watching videos, but this parameter directly affects the dimensions, price and weight of the device. If you plan to often use the device on the road, then the light and compact Samsung model of 7-8 inches will suit you. Such a device will fit in an inner pocket or women's handbag. And the model works no worse than the 10-inch version: the applications on it are the same - the size of the case does not directly affect the speed of the operating system. If you need constant access to the network for remote work, then it is better to purchase a Samsung tablet model with a 3G module. This way you will not be dependent on Wi-Fi hotspots.

Most Samsung tablets run on an operating room Android system. It is well suited for games, entertainment and work. Files are conveniently organized into folders, and the devices themselves have an intuitive interface. The company store offers a large number of applications for working with documents, photos and videos.

Android tablet review on the site? Seriously?

Seriously. For the first time, I had in my hands a device that Steve Jobs could well have dreamed of when creating his iPad.

I am looking at Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 and I have mixed feelings: I'm sorry that such a powerful, thoughtful, convenient and beautiful device was made other guys.

But I'm glad that this tablet has every chance to really push modern laptops and increase the popularity of the fading market for such devices.

If only because the Tab S4 can do what it still does ( and in the yard 2018, for a minute) can't learn iPad.

We have been using this tablet for a week and now we can tell you why such a conclusion came about.

Outwardly - pure fire

Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 looks very impressive: a glass case with an aluminum frame looks moderately elegant, without a hint of kitsch or "gypsy".

In general, Samsung has a very good design policy, because in recent years all their flagship gadgets have their own charm and recognizable style whether it's a smartphone or a tablet.

I consider this a real victory for the Korean company, because among the variety of devices on the market portable electronics at a glance, to find out which manufacturer's device you are holding in your hands is a separate pleasure.

Having relied on a glass case, Samsung goes its own way, without copying its main competitor, and this commands respect. For originality appearance Tab S4 can even be forgiven for the fact that the glass case instantly collects fingerprints.

But in the hands of the tablet lies comfortably and does not slip, even if you hold it horizontally, even vertically.

The Galaxy Tab S4 does not have the usual physical button under the screen: the only physical power and volume buttons are located on one of the edges of the device.

The tablet weighs 480 grams, and this is the optimal weight when the device does not feel fragile, but with long use, even when weighed, you do not get tired of holding it in your hands.

At the back of the gadget there is a camera eye and that's it - there are no fingerprint scanners, although tablet can be unlocked with several different ways , which I will discuss below.

In general, outwardly, the Galaxy Tab S4 looks very charismatic: I can’t imagine how else the design can be improved, because the tablet is just perfect in terms of ergonomics.

Be careful with the volume - you can go deaf

For several generations of devices, Samsung has partnered with one of the most famous audio equipment manufacturers, AKG. And if in the case of smartphones you get excellent bundled headphones, then in the case of a new tablet you get simply amazing sound.

The Galaxy Tab S4 has as many as 4 speakers, which are located at the ends of the device. I assure you, you have never heard such a stereo in a tablet.

A separate DAC is responsible for the sound, and engineers from AKG were engaged in setting up the speakers. Watching movies with Tab S4 is a pleasure - the sound is not just loud, but really voluminous, thanks to Dolby Atmos support.

I can safely say that thanks to the magic of AKG engineers, the tablet easily does 90% of all laptops, and certainly all the other tablets that only exist in the world both in terms of volume reserve and sound quality.

Do you want privacy or talk face-to-face with your interlocutor? You can connect headphones to the tablet using an ordinary 3.5 mm jack.

If in smartphones the presence of this useful input is already presented as a separate plus, then in the camp of tablets it presence is still rather commonplace than an exclusive "chip".

Why don't your eyes get tired? Because superAMOLED!

The Galaxy Tab S4 has a super AMOLED screen, which we can see in the Galaxy S9 and S9+ smartphones: just remember how you felt when you saw how good this screen is.

Personally, I remember how we in the editorial office admired the real black color, looking at the screen Samsung smartphones, as they rejoiced at the excellent contrast and rich colors.

Now imagine that smartphone screen just increased in size, while retaining all its advantages: this is exactly the feeling I experienced when testing a tablet from Samsung.

In the Galaxy Tab S4, the screen occupies almost the entire front of the device, without any protrusions, "eyebrows" and other marketing tricks.

The screen resolution is 1600 x 2560 pixels at 287 ppi. Due to the absence of an air gap between the glass and the screen matrix, the image seems to lie on the surface, and even if you look at it from different angles, the picture does not distort, does not fade and remains “juicy”.

With such a screen, even YouTube looks much more beautiful: I watched a few HDR videos, and the world around now seems too colorless to me.

Of course, in the tablet settings you can set the desired screen resolution yourself, as on the Galaxy S9 and S9 + smartphone or on full-fledged computers. iPads do not know how, and are unlikely to learn in the near future.

For film lovers and protective glasses there is a special switch by clicking on which you activate the improved screen sensitivity.

This option is needed so that even in the presence of a film (or glass), the screen quickly responds to touch, without making the owner nervous.

I have not seen this at all in any tablet. Everything for the people, right, Samsung?

Plug in a keyboard, use a stylus. Forget the laptop

How many times have we tried to use tablets instead of laptops? In our editorial office, almost every author went through this with the same result: The tablet can not fully replace the laptop.

Samsung fundamentally disagrees with this, and therefore I ended up with special case-book with built-in keyboard for the new Galaxy Tab S4.

And you know, I think that a tablet can replace a laptop. What's there - for several days I used only the Galaxy Tab S4 with a keyboard and it was convenient.

The accessory itself adds a little weight to the tablet, but not critical. The keyboard itself is rubberized to the touch, with a soft, tangible button travel and no annoying crackle - it's very pleasant to type.

Yes, the keyboard can be connected to an apple tablet, you say. But the Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 has another feature that allows you to throw the laptop on the shelf.

This is Dex. A mode that turns the tablet into a full-fledged "desktop"

Remember, Samsung has such a docking station that you need to connect to the monitor, install in it Galaxy smartphone S8 or newer and connect a keyboard and mouse to get a full "desktop" workspace with true multi-windows, its own start button and a full file system?

So, in the Galaxy Tab S4 tablet, the DEX mode is built-in without any additional accessories, and it can be activated with one tap. In fact, you don't even need to connect a keyboard.

In DEX mode, the shell simulates operating system desktop computer under Windows control.

You can run several programs at once, each in its own window, create folders, use Explorer, install applications and games from Google Play, and many programs ( like the office suite from Microsoft) are generally exactly the same as on a regular computer.

The USB-C tablet charging connector can be used to connect flash drives and adapters, no kidding.

And I even tried to connect wired Internet to the Galaxy Tab S4: I took an Ethernet-USB type C adapter, connected it to the tablet and got full wired access to the network.

As a result, this is what happens: there is a convenient operating system, the ability to connect any peripherals and a comfortable keyboard, which is also a case.

If desired Can you connect a bluetooth mouse?, to most certainly turn the Galaxy Tab S4 into a full-fledged laptop.

But I didn't bother with the mouse, because every Galaxy Tab S4 comes with a stylus. And this is not for you apple pencil.

Using the stylus, you can highlight texts, cut out pictures, make signatures, write notes by hand and, of course, draw.

And you can put your hand on the screen- there will be no false positives or delays, I checked it.

You can even write with a stylus directly on the lock screen. I love this feature since the days of the Galaxy Note.

While Apple is thinking what would be so interesting to come up with to popularize its "pencil", Samsung really has a stylus. handy tool for work and creativity, to which you instantly get used and don’t think - How did you manage without this useful thing before??

Eye protection, kid mode and maximum safe storage

As I wrote at the very beginning, the Galaxy Tab S4 does not have a fingerprint scanner. But if you want to be innovative, you can set up face unlock using an iris scan.

The function works very quickly, even in the dark. If you wear glasses, then they will not be a hindrance, but if you wear sunglasses, the scanner will not work.

With an eye scan you can not only unlock the tablet, but also confirm purchases on the Internet, as well as confirm the completion of forms, logins and passwords.

Also the eyes or strong password) can become a pass to a special secure environment, the pride of Korean developers, called Knox, which is a sort of “OS in OS” for maximum separation of work and personal data on a tablet.

All important files, photos, notes and even applications can be moved from public access to a special isolated area, which can be accessed only after typing a specific password on the device.

Moreover, you can even transfer an application there, for example, some kind of messenger and log into it under a different login.

As a result, the device will have several copies of one application: for example, 2 instant messengers in which you are registered under 2 different logins and passwords.

If this does not provide maximum security, then I can suggest simply not using electronic devices at all.

The Galaxy Tab S4 has another secure environment, only it is not intended for adults, but for children. And it works just as easily and reliably as Knox.

It's no secret that many parents give their tablets into the hands of young children in exchange for moments of peace and quiet. But you almost see it - and the child has already removed the pictures, bought something in the store or erased all the applications.

To prevent this from happening, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 has a special children's mode: you activate it, set a password so that you can exit this mode only by typing a combination of numbers, and calmly give the tablet to your child.

In the children's mode on the screen of the gadget there are only applications and games for the smallest, and access to the main desktop, programs, contacts and galleries is closed.

It turns out the perfect toy that will take a little person, and parents will not worry about the safety of their data.

So is it worth taking this tablet instead of a laptop?

We have already played enough with apple tablets, and thought that such devices are some kind of analogue of a smartphone, but not a full-fledged computer.

When all manufacturers are riveting the same devices, which essentially differ only in versions of Android, Samsung approaches the task with soul and releases a real bomb in the world of mobile tablets.

The Galaxy Tab S4 is a gadget that is easy to use and can perform tasks like a real laptop, both at work and at home.

Is this not innovation?

With its Galaxy Tab S4, Samsung is simply pulling ahead and leaving all competitors far behind. Just like it was a long time ago, with one aluminum tablet.

Only then did we see similar devices only potential, not implementation. Today, personally, I know exactly what a tablet should be in order to compete with laptops.

And Samsung made just such a tablet.

Glass-aluminum housing, powerful stuffing, latest version Android, the ability to connect flash drives, printers and other devices through adapters - you get all this when you use new Galaxy Tab S4.

The first tablet in a few years, which returned my faith in such devices.

From August 1 to August 23, you pre-order the Samsung Galaxy Tab S4 on the official website for 52,990 rubles, and you get a keyboard case as a gift for free. Keep in mind that after this promotion, the accessory will cost 8,990 rubles.

Do you want to work? Connect your keyboard and write. Do you want to play, watch movies, surf the Internet? Simply put, it's a tablet. Do you want to draw, create, be creative? It's easy - there's a very handy stylus and hundreds of talent discovery apps on Google Play.

In the end, I consider the Galaxy Tab S4 the best tablet today, which is worth holding in your hands, assessing its convenience and beauty yourself. You will like it, I'm sure.

In April last year, the South Korean Samsung giant decided to please customers by presenting an updated version of its line of ten-inch tablets. The model received the designation Galaxy Tab 4 10.1 SM-T531.

The updated device is made in the traditional design for Samsung: rounded shapes, the presence touch buttons"back" and "options" under the screen and a physical "home" key. The presence of the latter is a “trick” of the Korean manufacturer, but among users it finds mixed reviews. Some consider it a plus, others consider it a useless relic inherited from smartphones. The tablet is equipped with a quad-core processor, 1.5 GB random access memory, 16 GB of internal storage and a 3G communication module with support for one SIM card.
Despite the cost (today it is about $ 250), it will not turn out to call the filling of the tablet more than a budget language. Whether it is sufficient for the needs of consumers or not is not for us to decide. Short review will allow you to get acquainted with the Galaxy Tab 4 closer to draw your own conclusions.

Specifications

Galaxy Tab 4 can't stand out with support for advanced technologies. Only what has been in demand for a long time is implemented here. Realized, by the way, quite well.

CPU

The tablet uses a chipset manufactured by Qualcomm, model Snapdragon 400. The processor has four cores and runs at a frequency of 1200 MHz. They are enough for Internet browsing, watching movies, simple toys. But avid gamers will not appreciate it, considering it weak.
Video chip Galaxy Tab 4 - Adreno 305. As already mentioned, it is enough for not too resource-intensive tasks, but for those who need a tablet for games, this is not the best option.

The tandem of the CPU and GPU is able to score only 16 thousand rating points in the AnTuTu test, which looks faded by modern standards.

Memory

RAM in the tablet 1.5 GB. For normal use, this volume is enough. But against the background of flagships with 3 GB, it seems not enough. However, some manufacturers still install 1 GB on such devices, so the Galaxy Tab 4 is not the worst option.
Built-in storage has a capacity of 16 GB. There is also support for memory cards up to 64 GB. Why not 128 is a mystery. Unfortunately, we did not have the opportunity to test the work with such a module.

Battery

The Galaxy Tab 4 battery has a capacity of 6800 mAh. Of course, there are devices on the market that have all 10,000 with a similar diagonal, but thanks to optimization, the tablet's operating time is quite decent. Of course, it will not be enough for a day of web surfing, but 10 hours are quite real. Without a SIM card installed and a network connection, the device will last in standby mode for about a week (or even more), but with them this period is sharply reduced to 2-3 days.

Camera

Photomodules here, although they have a mediocre resolution, are not installed “for show”. The rear camera has a matrix with a resolution of 3 MP and is quite suitable for quick shooting. Details of objects can be seen, there are no color distortions, in the semi-darkness it is quite real to see something.
The same can be said about the 1.3 MP front lens. It is quite enough for Skype or video calls over a 3G network, you can even try to take a good selfie.

Display

The screen of the Galaxy Tab 4 has a diagonal of 10.1" and supports up to 10 clicks simultaneously. The matrix resolution is quite typical for most devices, but you want something more from a $300 tablet. After all, 1280x800 is HD, but at 10" pixels can be seen with the naked eye. After a smartphone with a similar resolution, getting used to such a screen is quite difficult.
As for brightness and color reproduction, everything is at a decent level. In the sun, the picture is visible, when viewing at an angle, there are no color distortions. But there is no light sensor here, which for many is a tangible minus.

Data transfer

In addition to the standard Wi-Fi and Bluetooth for modern tablets, the Galaxy Tab 4 has a 3G module. It supports traditional GSM and UMTS networks, but is incompatible with LTE. You can make calls from a tablet (although the appearance of a 10-inch "tray" at the ear is somewhat comical, but no one forbids using a headset).

There is also satellite navigation GPS / GLONASS. It works well, apparently, the large antenna affects. The signal is normally caught even indoors.

Sound

There are two speakers in the tablet, the sound from them is quite voluminous. This is not a boombox, but the lower and upper frequencies are reproduced quite correctly. The Galaxy Tab 4 10.1 SM-T531 16Gb also sounds good with headphones, the jack of which is located on the left side of the tablet.

OS

Out of the box, the Galaxy Tab 4 comes with Android 4.4 on board. The manufacturer preinstalled the proprietary graphical shell TouchWiz on it. There are no brakes in the work, everything works smoothly.

Recently, users have the opportunity to upgrade to Lolipop - the fifth android versions.

Advantages Galaxy tablet Tab 4 10.1:

  • good sound;
  • good cameras;
  • high build quality;
  • excellent quality of all types of communication.

Alas, but there are also enough minuses:

  • low screen resolution;
  • far from top-end iron;
  • no light sensor.

Conclusion

Galaxy Tab 4 10.1 SM-T531 16Gb- a device for fans of this brand. Samsung will not be able to interest those for whom megapixels and gigahertz are above all. Even the “average” position of the device can only be held by numerous devices of Chinese origin, equipped with lower-quality screens and hardware. If not for them, the Galaxy Tab 4 SM-T531's chances of success could be called quite miserable, since such a "stuffing" is relevant at the beginning of 2014, when, in fact, the tablet came out.
