Which Xiaomi smartphone to choose: Mi A2 or Mi A2 Lite. Xiaomi mi a2 full review: why the new smartphone is worse than mi a1

One of the biggest challenges faced chinese smartphones going globally is a lack of support software... What many Asian audiences value or even demand don't always translate so well into Western tastes. Everyone from Huawei to Vivo has done it. Most companies are not interested in ditching their software skin for a global audience. Xiaomi Mi A2 smartphone Lite review which is presented below will show how an original solution can lead to a successful start of sales in the international arena.

Aluminum rear part Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite is larger than most glass-coated phones. The case also copes well with wear and tear. The design is just as unassuming as most other phones these days, with rather small bezels surrounding the display and the familiar iPhone X-shaped arrangement on the back for vertically stacked dual cameras.

The rear-mounted fingerprint scanner is robust, though not nearly as fast as the top-tier sensors. The design of the Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite will not necessarily inspire you, but equally, it remains quite appealing.

Design and ergonomics

One thing to mention is the huge camera overhang on the back. While most of us are used to the complete solidity of the entire smartphone without protruding features, the Mi A2 is very noticeable. Like the Mi A1, the Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite is 7.3mm thick.

Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite does not wireless charging thanks to the metal back, but it includes USB Type-C... IR blaster up top provides the necessary hardware to control your TV with your phone, but you will need to install the Mi Remote app yourself. The rest of the lite model is no different in design from its older brother or more early versions first generation.

Display

The screen quality of the Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite is often reduced in cheaper phones, but screen Xiaomi The Mi A2 Lite works great - if not exclusively. The display of the Mi A2, like the Mi 6X on which it is based, is a 5.99-inch Full HD + IPS LCD. That's half an inch larger than its predecessor, with a new 18: 9 aspect ratio, but general form The Mi A2 is pretty much identical to the Mi A1. It has a resolution of 1080 x 2160 with a pixel density of 403 ppi - not bad considering its size - providing crisp details.

Despite being an LCD, the panel delivers decent contrast and vibrant, but not saturated colors. If you like Samsung displays, you may find it a little underdeveloped. If you prefer a more neutral palette, you probably won't mind. Unfortunately, if you're used to customizing the display in MIUI, you won't find anything like it here. Competitors Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite do not contain such nuances.

The Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite has pretty decent viewing angles and good touch response, but its brightness leaves a lot to be desired. The smartphone screen displays everything in the open air legibly, except for the intense midday sun, but you may have to turn up the brightness. In fact, you will probably find that you always keep the Mi A2 screen at a higher brightness level than usual.

Screen

The Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite's screen is covered with Gorilla Glass 5 for better scratch resistance and shock absorption, and there is an oleophobic coating to help reduce greasy streaks.

The display is slightly rounded corners Like the ones we've seen from LG, Samsung and others, there is a slight "eyebrow" like on the latest iPhone where the sensor and camera are located. Navigation is via on-screen softkeys - another change for long-awaited Xiaomi fans - and the Back button is now on the left (the previous Xiaomi button location had this on the right). There is no built-in method to switch them.

This is definitely not better display on the market, but it's still very good for this price point. Fans of heavily saturated OLED panels or super-bright displays may be unhappy.

Equipment

The box of the device is designed in the style of complete minimalism. The influence of the American brand is clearly felt. The complete set completely repeats the style of the box itself. It consists of the following:

  1. Telephone.
  2. Instruction.
  3. Cable and charger.
  4. Protective silicone case.

Headphones are also missing. The company's website is available in a large number of devices that can be useful when using a smartphone. But all this for an additional fee. Older models do not have a headphone jack, so a special adapter for them is supplied in the kit for working through a charging socket.

Characteristics Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite

Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite includes the new Snapdragon 660 mobile platform (up from 625 in most other comparable Xiaomi phones). The 14nm 660 includes four high-performance Kryo 260 cores clocked at 2.2GHz and four low-energy Kryo 260 cores clocked at 1.8GHz. GPU - Adreno 512.

This processing is noticeably noticeable throughout the Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite. This is especially a bonus at this price point - the upcoming competition for the Mi A2 specification is the more expensive Nokia 7 Plus.

There are several configurations random access memory and storage: 4 GB of RAM with 32 GB or 64 GB of storage and 6 GB of RAM with 128 GB of storage. There is no microSD expansion on the Mi A2.

Performance

Upgrading to Snapdragon 660 from Xiaomi's longtime favorite, the Snapdragon 625, is a big deal for performance. The 625 uses the energy efficient Cortex A53 cores, and the 660 replaces them with the more powerful Kryo 260 architecture. The new X12 modem also doubles the download speed.

4 GB of RAM is enough for a phone under Android so you probably won't notice any problems with general processing. Naturally, the Xiaomi Mi A2 will not behave as responsive as a phone at two to three times the price, but this is still a very impressive figure.

The phone heats up when energized, probably because the metal dissipates heat a lot. Reviews of Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite from the first buyers point out that the model is fast in its class.

Cameras

As with most phones these days, the camera is a real attraction here. With Mi A2 lite, this is especially pleasing, since the smartphone is in the low price segment. The model is a testament to what good camera software can do.

The Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite camera has a 12MP, f / 1.75 primary lens and a 20MP, f / 1.75 secondary lens. Unlike the Mi A1, there is no longer a 2x optical zoom lens. The secondary lens is now designed for low light photography, although it helps with effects as well.

The smartphone uses pixel binning to combine light data from four adjacent pixels on a 20-megapixel sensor into two-microscopic superpixels, resulting in a 5-megapixel image upscaled to 20 megapixels.

Photo

The weird thing is, when you switch between the two cameras from the back, you can leave all the settings in manual mode. A simple switch in auto mode would give the 20MP sensor a better chance of being used by ordinary people, since it is not very convenient at first to choose the right filter, and even more so to try to quickly switch the camera lens.

The photo quality of the Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite ranges from impressive to impressively strange. In daytime shots, the gadget has a solid dynamic range and almost never smears out glare. The device's 12MP camera has very good color reproduction, with beautiful colors without oversaturation and good detail even in the shade.

Even in low light conditions, it works great by keeping nice color and contrast, and keeps noise to a minimum. Portrait mode is better than most budget models, although it also has some bugs.

Video

If you are only using the 12MP sensor on your smartphone, then the results will surprise you. Google is working closely with its Android One partners on areas like the camera before giving its endorsement. Google noted that it is aware of the importance of the camera and is working very closely with Xiaomi to ensure that it meets its standards. Xiaomi did not say anything specific about how actively Google was involved in this.

The Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite offers automatic HDR on both the rear and front cameras. There are modes artificial intelligence AI. There is a nice panorama mode, filters and straightening options to fix clumsy horizons. For video, there is support for 4K at 30fps, FHD at 60 and 30fps, and HD at 30fps.

Video stabilization only works well at FHD and it is best during daytime. If you use stabilization when shooting at night, you can find many flaws in the image processing system. But to find fault with the device of the budget segment in this matter is not worth it. There are also slow motion videos.

Front-camera

The front camera uses the same 20MP sensor at f / 2.0 aperture. It also offers front-facing HDR, stand-alone light, and 4500K portrait mode. In portrait mode, the Mi A2 automatically selects the best camera for the conditions of the snapshot.

The rest of the time, you'll have to manually switch to the 20MP sensor by moving to manual mode and pressing the button on the side.

Sound and quality of music playback

There are no headphones included. On the site you can order branded wired or wireless headphones for an additional price.

The jacks located on the bottom of the device hide the speaker on the right and the microphone on the left. The smartphone certainly sounds loud enough, but don't expect too much from this mono speaker at full volume, especially if bass is your thing.

It's also pretty easy to hide a single speaker while playing, so a pair of wired or wireless headphone Is the best idea. Oreo means you have support for various Bluetooth codecs including SBC, AAC, aptX, aptX HD, and LDAC if you want to connect to a wireless network, and the smartphone supports Bluetooth 5.

Communication capabilities

The audio during the call was reliable and clear, and the earpiece speaker was loud enough even outdoors.

There were no problems with cellular or Wi-Fi connection, and wireless connections were stable, which did not allow the usual Bluetooth problems that you should expect on any phone. The sound is definitely not strong point smartphone, but this is also not critical.

The phone supports all communication ranges. No extraneous noise during dialogues. Additionally, when the call is activated, filters on the microphone itself are turned on. They are used for channel filtering and active noise suppression during dialogue.

Operating system

On any Android device One in the forefront of software is not much. If you like everything additional functions and software capabilities manufacturer, Android One is not for you. These added additional features inherently slow down updates and the system itself. If you're willing to give up additional applications and widgets to just get basic Android, you'll get updates much faster as well.

However, there is still room for small improvements. Xiaomi's Mi A2 uses the Google camera app for its own purposes. This means it can better support dual cameras and also integrate Google Lens. There is also a Mi Service section in the settings, although it only contains a switch for entering the Xiaomi user account program and allows you to collect diagnostic data.

There is only one app screen at purchase, and 95 percent of them are Google's default suite, including Google Assistant. Smartphone is more nimble without duplicate applications and only packages from Xiaomi: Feedback, a more fully featured file manager and Mi Drop. You can delete the last two if you don't need them.

Since Google processes updates quickly, you don't have to wait too long. Android updates 9 Pie. Google's position notes that updates will come in the fall of 2018. Xiaomi said this will happen "as early as possible."

Autonomy

Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite has a 3,000mAh battery to fit into this ultra-thin body in size. While time autonomous work wasn't bad, the thought of a larger Xiaomi battery could lead to slightly thicker devices. If Xiaomi had opted for a 3500 mAh battery, the thickness would have noticeably increased.

The combination of Android without additional software and the economical Snapdragon 660 means you still get a decent amount of power from your smartphone.

Battery life was acceptable, but not cutting edge. The LCD and the more power hungry chipset are the most likely culprits here.

Mi A2 5V / 2A charger via Quick Charge 2.0 Qualcomm 2.0. The version available in Europe and Asia will support Quick Charge 4.0, although you won't get the QC4 charger in the box; it will be 10W no matter where you are.

Android Oreo only has standard mode battery saver, but Android Pie will bring adaptive battery and adaptive display to help a little with smartphone battery drain. Fast charging a 3000 mAh battery takes an hour and a half.

Pros and cons of a smartphone

The model has almost equal advantages, as well as disadvantages. Although, looking ahead, it is worth noting that the disadvantages are not global and mostly subjective. They relate to the specific preferences of the user.

Pros of the Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite smartphone:

  1. Large diagonal and bright screen.
  2. High performance in applications and games.
  3. Economical energy consumption.
  4. Stylish design.
  5. Practical and robust body.

The main disadvantages include:

  1. Small battery capacity.
  2. Weak cameras.
  3. Poor image stabilization at night.
  4. A number of settings and options are missing on the device.

Buying this phone model on to understand that it is universal and does not carry the advanced and flagship technologies that can be found in latest models manufacturers such as iPhone, Samsung, LG.

Comparison with competitors

Main competitor Xiaomi models Mi A2 Lite can also be considered the Chinese model of the Xiaomi Redmi 6A smartphone. They are similar in many ways, especially in terms of performance. Where A2 has disadvantages, Xiaomi Redmi 6A has advantages.

In addition, similar indicators include price segment... Both models are on the same level, however, as the experts themselves say, A2 is a powerful and worthy tacit continuation of the Redmi series. It is better not to compare Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite, since flagships always have a narrow focus and a longer high resource than budget models.

Output

If the missing features listed above are not critical to you, Xiaomi Mi A2 lite will delight and surprise. The middle range is the best place to use your smartphone reliably. It certainly won't disappoint most users.

Last year, Xiaomi debuted in Android program One by releasing a smartphone called Mi A1. A large number of people took this step of the manufacturer very positively, as evidenced by the huge popularity of this device. He became a real hit of sales thanks to great camera, solid processor and lack of MIUI shell.

However, the time has come to release his heir. The original concept assuming a clean Android version, incorporated in the model of last year, found its continuation in the recently presented smartphone Xiaomi Mi A2. The novelty surpasses its predecessor in almost all positions. The hardware has become more powerful, the camera is better, the screen is bigger, and so on.

Xiaomi Mi A2 smartphone

There is no doubt that this phone will be very active in buying, despite the presence of annoying shortcomings, which for many will be significant. What is interesting about the "Googlephone" in Chinese, we will analyze in today's review.

Specifications

Video review Xiaomi Mi A2:

Equipment

The delivery of the smartphone came as no surprise. Plain white box made of high quality cardboard. Above it has a picture of the Mi A2 in available color options... In addition to the phone itself, the Chinese put the following set in the package:

  • power supply 5V / 2A;
  • soft bumper;
  • USB-C cable;
  • adapter for 3.5 mm;
  • hairpin;
  • waste paper.

Appearance and materials

The appearance of Xiaomi Mi A2 is standard, in fact, nothing stands out from the background of other inexpensive devices of the brand. Earlier in China, the Mi 6X model was released, and so the hero of our review is an exact copy of it, if you do not focus on the software component. The same decision was made by the manufacturer last year, when the Mi A1 completely inherited the exterior and interior of the Mi5X smartphone intended for the Celestial Empire.

I was pleased with the absence of disgusting plastic inserts, which positively influenced the perception of the device. Instead, cute arched veins are used to provide a connection. In general, the device is attractive, the aluminum case is perfectly assembled, has comfortable dimensions - 158.7 × 75.4 × 7.3 mm. The novelty weighs 166 grams.

In the era of full-screen phones, every now and then you look closely at the size of the frames, and the fresh mid-budget device from Xiaomi has not escaped this fate. Unfortunately, it has quite wide side margins, but after a short period of use they no longer attract attention. The model can hardly be called original in terms of appearance, especially this feeling is affected rear panel, topped with a round fingerprint plate and a vertical camera block, as in all new Xiaomi products.

The photomodule area protrudes well above the back plane, which is very inconvenient. Because of this bump, the device staggers when it lies on the surface with the screen up.

The Mi A2 is available in black, red, gold, blue and pink. The first two color options look the most advantageous. As usual, the volume and power keys are located on the right side, and on the left there is a tray with two cells only for nanoSIM cards.

The user is deprived of the opportunity to expand the memory, and this fact is depressing. Also a negative point is the lack of a 3.5 mm output, an adapter is given for replacement, but this is not quite right.

There is only one speaker here, it has found its place on the bottom end, where there are also USB-C port and a microphone. Another microphone and IR sensor are mounted on the top edge.

Screen

The 5.99-inch display is covered with Gorilla Glass with slight rounding around the edges. It occupies 77.4 percent of the surface. Its resolution is 1080 × 2160 pixels. As you may have guessed, the smartphone is endowed with an elongated screen with a trendy 18: 9 format, which allows even with this large diagonal make an easy-to-use device.

The phone has a solid IPS matrix, excellent color calibration is noticeable in it. The colors are saturated, the viewing angles are maximum, there is a high level of brightness. White color remains white without admixtures of other shades. However, in the sun, I want to increase the maximum brightness by another 10-15 percent. The color rendition does not change, only the white balance is adjusted.

Hardware specs and performance

In terms of the power of the "hardware", significant progress is evident in comparison with its predecessor. The modern Snapdragon 660 chipset, working in symbiosis with the Adreno 512 video core, has come to replace the good, but still outdated Snapdragon 625 processor. Due to this technical content, the Xiaomi Mi A2 is able to "digest" any games. This is not a top-end solution, but only a middle peasant, nevertheless, heavy toys, for example, Asphalt 9 Legends and PUBG Mobile will run smoothly on medium or high graphics. In addition, this platform is energy efficient, which will not be superfluous if you are a gamer. In terms of memory, the smartphone is divided into three versions - 6/128 GB, 4/32 GB and 4/64 GB.

Well-known benchmarks rate the performance of the device highly. So, the popular test AnTuTu 7 he passed with the result of almost 130 thousand "parrots". In the single-core mode of the Geekbench 4 test, the Xiaomi Mi A2 scored 1644 points, and in the multi-core mode - 4855 points. A couple of years ago, such indicators were demonstrated by top-end Qualcomm processors.

The gadget has wireless technologies Bluetooth 5.0, Wi-Fi at 5 GHz and 2.4 GHz, GPS and GLONASS. There is also an infrared port, but many will be saddened by the lack of an NFC module, which begs for it here. The phone is not so cheap and cheap to save on this trifling component, but the attractiveness of the model NFC availability would significantly increase. There is no FM radio here either. As for the finger scanner, there are no complaints about it, it works accurately and quickly.

Autonomy

The smartphone is equipped with a 3000 mAh battery. In comparison with the models of the Redmi line, somehow this is not at all impressive. But on daylight hours with normal use, this volume will be enough, so do not worry. Support for Quick Charge 3.0 is declared, the Xiaomi Mi A2 10-watt adapter available in the box charges 35 percent in half an hour.

Sound quality

The only speaker of the smartphone is good in terms of volume, but you cannot call it bad in terms of quality. You will definitely hear the call through the noise, you don't need to listen to the sound of the video on YouTube either. In headphones, the sound is normal and no more. After all, this is not a flagship, but an inexpensive phone.

Operating system

The Android One program, on which the Xiaomi Mi A2 was created, assumes the presence of stock version"Green robot", which we see in this smartphone... It runs on a pure Android 8.1 Oreo OS, followed by an update to Android P immediately after the official release of the new version.

This is a real breath of fresh air for opponents of any third-party shells. All interface elements remained unchanged. The system, as expected, pleases with the speed of work. Besides the standard Google applications, there are some programs from Xiaomi, such as the Mi Remote for working with the infrared port and the App Mi Drop explorer.

Cameras

The device has got a cool main camera based on two sensors from Sony, which have a resolution of 12 and 20 megapixels. The previous model had a high reputation in terms of photo quality, and the novelty also keeps its mark. The equipment of the photomodule can be called flagship, it includes optical stabilization, phase detection autofocus, dual-LED flash and f / 1.8 aperture on both lenses. And it's all in an affordable smartphone.

In real life, the camera confirms its decent performance, giving out great pictures. Compared to the Mi A1, an improvement in sharpness was noticed, and even more precisely and faster autofocus began to work. Colors come out natural both during the day and in poor light. The HDR mode is doing well, although it lacks the advanced HDR + found on the Pixel.

Also, the camera works correctly with lighting, the sky will not be overexposed and luminous objects at night will not turn into an incomprehensible mess. In night shots, the detail is slightly reduced, since the noise reduction system is involved, but it works quite smoothly.

The front camera is 20-megapixel with f / 2.2 aperture. It is endowed with artificial intelligence algorithms that operate at the software level. With its help, you can take high-quality selfies and shoot videos in Full HD.

Output

The Mi A2 model will be in great demand among buyers, because for that kind of money you can hardly find quality smartphone with productive filling, wonderful cameras, and even with all advantages of Android One. NFC is not enough for complete happiness, but, frankly, this moment is not important for all people. Therefore, this unit certainly deserves to be your new smartphone.

  • excellent 18: 9 screen;
  • USB-C port;
  • software filling;
  • quality cameras;
  • fast charging;
  • performance;
  • price.
  • no NFC;
  • battery capacity;
  • removed 3.5 mm jack;
  • you can not cram microSD.

Xiaomi Mi A2 is the result of the efforts of two top companies at once. The smartphone received excellent hardware from Xiaomi and the most adequate price tag. From Google, the device got pure Android. And it seems that the union of such strongest companies should give birth to a top-end apparatus for its own money. Unfortunately, this is not the case.

The Xiaomi Mi A2 review is dedicated to those who lick their lips, but are stopped from buying by the controversial MIUI. Our device is devoid of this "drawback", so looking ahead, I say right away - Xiaomi Mi A2 is worth its money. You can buy right now, without waiting for the VAT increase and other joys of life in Russia.

But to be more picky, then there are a bunch of unpleasant nuances that I cannot but tell about. Go!

Design

Do you know what the Mi A2 and the company's other latest gadgets have in common? Design, of course. The same boring one copied from the iPhone.

From here we take the archive with all the original photos for detailed study on our computer.

Front-camera

In terms of detail and quality in general, it is not bad. Even the background blurs with dignity.

However, if you are shooting yourself against the background of a contrasting object (sky, white wall, etc.), then the background will definitely be overexposed. The built-in HDR mode doesn't save the day at all.

Video recording

The video quality is excellent. The smartphone shoots in 4K and does it well. Even soundtrack pleased - stereo recording, adequate noise reduction and all that jazz.

Moreover, the device pleases even with night video recording.

Software

The default is Android 8.1.0 with all the latest updates and security patches from Google. The smartphone will remain in this current state for another couple of years.

However, expecting Mi A2 owners to receive updates to the latest OS as quickly as the Pixel series is not worth it. For example, the smartphone will be updated to Android 9 Pie by the end of this year at best. And yet it is still faster than devices from other manufacturers that run on their own shells.

By and large, there are no complaints about the system. After all, this is bare Android, everything works great here. Except!

The first is a huge strip at the bottom edge of the screen, set aside for the navigation keys. There are no system control gestures, so this clumsy strip cannot be removed.

The second is the stability of the proximity sensor. During a conversation via the Network or through any messenger, the sensor turns on the screen and you accidentally press your ear on any button on the display. No matter how tightly you press the phone to your ear, the display still turns on after five seconds and then goes out. After another 5 seconds, the scenario is repeated. Accordingly, it is difficult to talk on such a device. Hopefully this is a software glitch and will be fixed in the next OS update.

Sound

There is only one external speaker - located at the bottom, next to the USB C port. The speaker pleased us with simply unrealistic loudness. I naturally flinched every time a notification came to my smartphone and, moreover, someone called me.

The speaker is average in quality. There are no volumes, lows and a hint of them, and there is no any crime like whistling and squeaking either.

The headphones sound good, no worse or better than the rest of 95% of smartphones on the market. However, we don’t forget, we don’t lose and we don’t complain about the 3.5 mm adapter. This is the only way to connect your favorite wired "ears" to the device.

Autonomy

Expecting a lot from a 3,000-swap battery is ill-advised. In my scenario, the device could work for one or two days. It all depends on what software you work with and how you generally use your smartphone.

For our smartphone, this is the ceiling.

Fast charging is not supported. The capacity of 3,000 matches is accumulated in 2 hours. If anything, I tried both from the supplied power supply (5V and 2A) and from the adapter from the kit with QS 3.0 support.

Outcome

Xiaomi Mi A2 is a cool smartphone. If he had an audio output and an NFC module for contactless payment, then the device could be called ideal. However, there are other nuances. Not so critical anymore, rather even taste.

Despite the vertical and fiercely protruding camera, the Mi A2 still looks good and fits perfectly in the hand. Under the hood there is excellent and modern hardware, and camera modules will help you get a great shot in almost any light.

Fortunately, the price of the Xiaomi Mi A2 pleases. Now officially in Russia you can buy a smartphone for 24 thousand rubles. Expensive. On the other hand, it has a great processor, pure Android and nice cameras. All this together cannot cost three kopecks.

Already on sale Price: 23 990 rubles

Xiaomi Mi A2 is an affordable mid-range smartphone with a frameless screen. A feature of the device is "clean" operating system Android One without additional skins. This model was announced in July 2018.

Appearance and ergonomics

The Xiaomi Mi A2 case is made of high quality and solid aluminum. Absolutely the entire front side is covered by a 2.5D glass, under which there is a fairly large screen with minimal bezels around. There are no physical navigation buttons here, as they became virtual to save space. The fingerprint sensor is located on the back, which is made of durable metal. The vertical unit with the main dual camera and flash has moved to the upper left corner, and the module is protected by stylish black tempered glass. The bottom edge received a USB Type-C connector, as well as a microphone and an external speaker.

Rounded sides and corners significantly improve ergonomics. Therefore, the smartphone lies in the hand thoroughly and pleasantly. A battery with a capacity of 3010 mAh is hidden inside. Available colors: pink, blue, red, black and gold. Dimensions: height - 158.7 mm, width - 75.4 mm, thickness - 7.3 mm, weight - 166 g.

Display

The Mi A2 houses a 5.99-inch screen with very small bezels on all sides. It should be noted that there is no "eyebrow", which many people do not like in frameless phones. The LTPS matrix is used with very good viewing angles and excellent color reproduction. The resolution of this display is 2160 by 1080 pixels, and the aspect ratio is 18: 9. On top there is Gorilla Glass 5, which protects the screen from all sorts of troubles. High detail is complemented by rich shades. The display behaves averagely in the sun, but if you wish, you can view the image even in direct sunlight.

Iron and performance

The Mi A2 smartphone received an eight-core Snapdragon 660 SDM660 processor. Fast Kryo 260 cores are used here, and the maximum frequency of the chip is 2200 MHz. There is a built-in graphics accelerator Adreno 512. The most advanced version of the device is equipped with 128 GB of internal memory, as well as 6 GB of RAM. Modifications with 32 or 64 GB of free storage and 4 GB of RAM are also presented. There is no way to expand the memory using microSD cards.

It is noteworthy that an operating theater is installed here. Android system without unnecessary applications and shells. Moreover, updates come officially over the air. In the AnTuTu test, the gadget manages to score about 105,000 points. GeekBench 4 has 1600 (single-core) and 5640 (multi-core) points. Accumulator battery with a capacity of 3010 mAh, it supports the Quick Charge 3.0 fast charging function. In terms of performance in real tasks, the smartphone does not experience any problems. The device works clearly and stably. Almost all games start instantly with medium to high graphics settings.

Communication and sound

The multimedia speaker in the Xiaomi Mi A2 sounds quite loud. But the sound in the headphones does not stand out in anything special, since it lacks sophistication. The earpiece speaker received decent noise cancellation, which guarantees high quality transmission of the interlocutor's voice in different situations. The device has Bluetooth 5.0, FM-radio, as well as support for popular navigation systems and LTE.

Camera

The highlight of Xiaomi Mi A2 can be considered a dual camera with a main 12-megapixel Sony sensor IMX486 and optional 20MP Sony module IMX376. The advanced aperture of 1.9 is also impressive, and this applies to both sensors. There is a fairly powerful flash and phase focusing. The camera supports artificial intelligence, so the developers have prepared hundreds of different scenarios. Photos work especially well in low light conditions. At the same time, there is relatively little noise and artifacts in the images. Photos with background blur also work great.

Front mounted 20-megapixel front-camera with an aperture of 1.8 and automatic HDR mode. There is support for the Face Unlock function, thanks to which the screen is quickly unlocked by scanning the user's face.

conclusions

The Mi A2 smartphone has a lot of undeniable advantages. It houses not only powerful technical stuffing, but also "naked" Android with official updates from google. At the same time, one cannot fail to note the first-class design, as well as the excellent photographic capabilities of the device.

Pros:

  • Very high quality cameras.
  • Large, bezel-less display.
  • Nice appearance.
  • Operating system Android One.
  • Face and fingerprint scanners.

Minuses:

  • Noticeably protruding camera.
  • There is no NFC chip.
  • A somewhat mundane sound.

Video reviews

An objective review of the smartphone, advantages, disadvantages, functions and sample photos on Xiaomi Mi A2.

Recently, the Chinese company Xiaomi introduced new smartphones based on pure Android One. Such devices are very popular among users, because they do not have a Chinese shell, but they have the kind of Android that Google developers created it. We tested the device and prepared an objective review.

In the box with the smartphone you can find the unit (2A) and USB cable Type-C for charging, transparent silicone case, a clip for ejecting the SIM card tray and an adapter from Type-C to 3.5 mm minijack.

Design and ergonomics

In terms of design, the Chinese company decided to save time. Xiaomi Mi A2 - practically full copy smartphone Xiaomi Redmi note 5, a review of which is possible.

The device is available in gold, black and blue colors. In the first two cases, the front panel is white, in the third - black. A gadget in golden colors has arrived for our review, although the black version certainly looks more strict and stylish.

The front panel is occupied by a widescreen 5.99-inch screen covered with a rounded 2.5D Gorilla Glass 5.

At the top are the front camera and flash, speaker, notification indicator and necessary sensors. In the white version, these elements are striking, but in the black version they will be almost invisible. The younger version - Mi A2 Lite - has a cutout in the style of iPhone X. Our smartphone does not have it, and this is already nice.

The space under the screen is empty, and the navigation buttons in the smartphone are touch-sensitive.

The back panel is made of brushed aluminum and slightly rounded at the edges, making it comfortable to hold the smartphone in your hand. Above and below there are quite thick and noticeable antenna strips in the style of the iPhone 6. It does not look very neat.

In the upper left corner is an impressive vertical dual camera module, which protrudes strongly above the general surface (more than on Redmi Note 5).

In the center there is a classic fingerprint scanner, at the bottom there are trade markings.

At the bottom of the smartphone there are symmetrical speaker holes, two bolts and a connector for USB charging Type-C.

On the top of the device, you can find an infrared port and a noise canceling microphone.

On the right in a traditional and familiar place are the power and volume buttons. They are pressed clearly, but they make a loud sound.

On the left side there is a hybrid slot for SIM-cards and memory cards, which can be removed with a paper clip.

In terms of ergonomics and convenience, the Xiaomi Mi A2 has only one complaint - the dual camera module is too bulky. If you put the phone on the table, it will wobble, “play”.

Otherwise, everything is fine - thanks to the rounded edges, the gadget fits comfortably in the hand, there are no protruding and sharp elements, nothing causes discomfort. The thickness of the gadget is only 7.3 mm.

There can be no questions about the build quality and materials - Xiaomi keeps the bar at a high level.

Summing up the intermediate result on the design - it's a pity that Xiaomi did not look for something new and make changes to the already a little boring design. If we could make the camera module more compact and remove the antenna strips, it would be much better.

Display

Xiaomi Mi A2 is equipped with a display popular in 2018 - 5.99-inch IPS-matrix with Full resolution HD + (2160 x 1080 pixels), 18: 9 aspect ratio and 403 ppi pixel density.

As for the screens, we have never had any complaints about Xiaomi, and Mi A2 is no exception. Engineers make the most of IPS technology: colors are contrasting and vivid, color reproduction is deep and correct, viewing angles and brightness control range are wide.

Of course, the depth of black is inferior to OLED and AMOLED matrices, but the screen of Xiaomi Mi A2 can be called high-quality and worthy without a doubt. In the case of our model, note that the color temperature is dominated by warm tones - pink and purple. You cannot change the color rendering parameters in the settings.

Performance and memory

A strong connection is responsible for the power of the smartphone - the current 14-nm Snapdragon 660 processor and the Adreno 512 video accelerator. The chipset consists of 4 Kryo 260 cores with a frequency of up to 1.8 GHz and 4 Kryo 260 cores with a frequency of up to 2.2 GHz. The smartphone has support for Bluetooth 5.0 and Quick Charge 3.0 fast charging. The Snapdragon 660 has the most positive impressions - it seems that you are using the flagship chipset.

Performance Xiaomi Mi A2 - strong point smartphone. The device works very quickly under any load, including instant messengers, social networks, browsers and even games.

As for the interface, everything is perfect - it "flies" stably and smartly, no microlags and freezes were found in two weeks of testing. Applications are launched and minimized quickly, and are not immediately unloaded from RAM.

4GB of RAM is more than enough for any task in 2018. The built-in storage is 64 GB, free after the first launch about 50 GB + there is room for a memory card. This will not be a problem.

Xiaomi Mi A2 in benchmarks

Testing Xiaomi Mi A2 with Snapdragon processor 660 in the AnTuTu benchmark shows a result in the region of 130 thousand points. The result in Geekbench is about 1600 and 4600 points in single-core and multi-core runs. The numbers are high and decent, which is clearly seen in the performance of the gadget in real life.

Cameras and Photos on Xiaomi Mi A2

The gadget is equipped with dual camera with 12 megapixel (f / 1.8) and 20 megapixel (f / 1.8) modules - a similar module is used on, which we praised for high-quality photos. Xiaomi Mi A2 takes excellent pictures for its price category - clear, detailed and realistic.

During the day, difficulties should not arise in principle - the camera takes pictures quickly and extremely rarely allows blurring of the frame. Optical stabilization has a huge positive effect here.

In conditions of insufficient artificial lighting and in the evening, a decrease in clarity and detail can be noticed only when the pictures are closer.

The flash fires correctly, avoiding highlights and color distortion.

Traditionally for all smartphones, when shooting at night, the quality of photos decreases - you can already see insignificant noise, but you cannot criticize the camera for this.

The selfie camera takes high-quality shots, supports portrait mode and the function of hiding appearance flaws.

Interface and functions

A fast and affordable Xiaomi smartphone on pure Android without Chinese services and MIUI branded shell - the golden mean. In general, the idea of releasing such smartphones is very interesting and successful, because many users prefer pure Android, such as Google "sees" it.

The Xiaomi Mi A2 runs on an up-to-date and fresh version of the system, which should be updated to Android Pie (9.0) in the coming months. We have already said that the platform is stable and fast. Here are screenshots for clarity.
